ask them for a $100 off for your trouble, that's probably more than fatwallet and you get it faster

 

I think I've read in a few places that the 160GB hard drive is the biggest delay factor on these... whether it's true or not I don't know, but I ordered the 100GB one just in case, and my ESD is a reasonable 2 weeks out.

 

I spoke with a represenative on the phone a couple days ago and she said 120GB was causing the delay.

 

The representatives lie.

 

Called Lenovo about my X61 order, they said it is still in process, and should ship by the end of the month (ugh).

Also, he said that engraving the exterior would NOT void the Thinkpad Protection or warranty. I had asked about this earlier.

 

Oddly enough, there is no store selling the X61 with a 100gb 7200rpm.
If there was such a place, I'd order it in a second.

 

umm damn looks like i won a lottery. sob... i should have picked 100Gb....7200 ant a bad choice.

 

hard drive's not a problem, just install your own. unfortunately no x61s pre-built machine has an ultralight display. that's kept me from buying a stock x61s.

Apparently it went of out the warehouse on the 6th, that's pretty impressive for an order placed on the 27th, but it's stuck at customs for god knows how long

and why is my shipment require "further clearance"?

 

My X61 with the 100gb is delayed too.

 

Just called Lenovo. The rep I spoke with actually told me this:

"I don't have any information about anything."

Exactly like this.

 

They want you to be happy that you were actually able to get in touch with someone.

 

No. Then I asked to talk with her manager. I was told he is not in yet.

I am not happy since they don't know anything and get paid by Lenovo, and I don't know anything and need to pay Lenovo.

 

Those rep is only paid to make orders, not order related inquiries. Now I finally know this. I called lenovo this morning, got the same answer: wait until next week, which is the estimated ship date.

 

Are you sure? So those people in options other than place an order get nothing?

 

Probably you misunderstanded my words. I am just complaining about them. Even if they are paid to answer the order related inquiries, it seems that they have no idea about what is going on with the manufacturing of our machine in China. It seems that they have different system which is isolated...

Interestingly enough, over the night I got an email from Lenovo that the laptop has shipped - essentially 2 days after ordering.

Anyone have any idea how long these take? I didn't plan on getting it so quickly, and the whole family is leaving town on the night of the 18th... any chance of getting it until the 18th if it got shipped on the 12th? last thing I want is for Fedex to leave the thing on my doorstep while we're gone!

 

Yeah, have it redirected to me. I'll keep an eye on it until my order actually ships.

 

My T61 took 2 days to get from China to my dad's office in NH. Crazy.

 

If nothing wrong in the shipping/custom/etc, you will get it Monday morning.

 

Now, if THAT happens, I will be extremely happy... I need to spend quite a bit of time building the machine to my needs, and this will allow me to do so while we're away.

I received my x61s also. The build quality is some worse than before IBM machine.

and, my x61s has a dead blue point on the screen!!

 

In what ways is the build quality of the X61 worse than the outgoing X60? I find this hard to believe.

My two X61s machines have been delivered but I need to pick them up...probably this weekend.

That looks great. That's going to be my config as well except with the new Intel a/b/g/n card. I have to wait until I receive my AMEX Tailormade card though.

 

so i checked out my friend's x61s, and it wasn't as bad as she nearly described.

basically, where the battery goes, there is a metal plate that would line up flush with the battery. It is slightly bent outward (like barely), and it has a scratch on it.

It sounds kinda bad in text, but it was very minor, and considering the fact that it was not even visible once you put the battery in, I don't find it a big deal.

One thing that is unfortunate is that the brick on the AC adapter makes a high frequency whine. I double-checked, it's coming from the AC adapter. I figure i can just send it in for a replacement.

 

If I was to re-order I would have got the Thinkpad card (Atheros chipset) rather than the Intel card. I have a Z60t right now with the Thinkpad (Atheros) card and it beats the pants off of the Intel card in my X60s. The Thinkpad card picks up like twice as many networks at my home location compared to the Intel card. You might consider getting the Thinkpad a/b/g/n card instead - when it becomes available again that is. Last I checked it was not an option on current configs.

 

I've read that the Intel a/b/g/n picks up more aceess points than the Intel a/b/g model. Furthermore, there have been a lot of users saying the Thinkpad (Atheros) gets "really" hot.

 

Hrm interesting...FWIW, the Intel 3945abg in my X60s definitely gets hot under my right wrist. I wonder if the Atheros card would be any worse.

Rrrgh... I ordered June 9, and the only difference I see between our configs is that I got the T7500, whereas you have the T7300.

They better ship this SOON.

 

Even worse, I ordered on the 12th and the only thing different between his and mine is that I got a 80gig and he got 100gig. Same processor. I'm giving them a call if I don't have a shipping notice by tuesday morning.

 

Nearly the same config as mine and I'm still waiting....

 

The T7500 has a much longer delay than the T7300.

they canceled my x61 order made on june 6th due to "invalid configuration" without as much as a notice telling me. Was forced to reorder but they said they would put it on the critical list whatever that means so maybe ill get it sometime this month who knows

Anyone else feel like the bezel around the power button is of really poor quality? The entire section of the keyboard flexes a lot!

Unreal. I wasn't expecting it until August and was working on a plan for getting through the first weeks of school without it. I guess they are definitely shipping. I hate it for all of the June people, but I am psyched to get this so quickly.
