No Turbo Memory. You also have 1GB of RAM then if you ordered Turbo Memory from Lenovo. I only have 512MB of RAM.

    Ordered 06/25/07
    Shipped 07/10/07
    Recieved 07/12/07

    Ordered through the visaperks website.

My first impression was "wow this thing is tiny!" (compared to my 15.4" asus monster)
I'm curious about light flex near the power button and, as another user mentioned, the power brick produces a certain hiss when under heavy work.

Lets hope I wont get too many problems with the upgraded warranty...

So... I received my "shipment" and apparently they simply split the order into the laptop itself and the accessories... and sent the accessories first.

My shipping date still says 7/27 for the laptop. Gosh, I was excited there for a few days.

It's really great. Very fast, quite silent (I can hear the fan if I put my ear next to it) and the overall quality is amazing. It's very sturdy, nothing feels like cheap plastic. However, there is some flex near the power button.

The right hand rest (as well as the bottom) does get warm when using the hard drive + wireless (I was transferring lots of files through the network). However, the heat is bearable and switching wifi off does seem to make a difference.

My general impression is everything is really easy with the x61. I find the thinkvantage utilities (and the fn shortcuts) very useful.

Did any of you folks order using the EPP or Shareholder program? I did so back in the beginning of June, my order was delayed once (from June 30 to July 18). Here were are on July 18 and this thing still hasn't shipped. It is enough to make me insane, but I am reluctant to call and complain because I do not want this order CANCELLED, especially after I have waited SO LONG for the item. :(

I ordered through EPP, but I don't think that has anything to do with the delays. It's just a matter of having the part(s) in stock.

Which wireless card do you have (Intel, Thinkpad)?
How warm does it get (the right palm rest in particular) when you're just browsing the internet?

After months of waiting...my X61 finally arrived. But geeeeez....the LCD screen is not "Ultra Connect II" as I've chosen, but I was like...whatever, I don't care anymore. But now, after couple hours of usage, the Hard Drive (80gig 5400rpm) is making REALLY LOUD SQueeeeeeking sound. If it's noisy with a normal sound then that's fine. This case, it squeeeks with high-pitch noise, killing my ears. This is soooooooo irritating. I don't have faith in asking Lenovo to replace Hard Drive or for laptop exchange. I prolly just go ahead and purchase a bigger laptop HDD from elsewhere.

Does anyone know if a regular 2.5" SATA notebook harddrive will fit for this Lenovo X61? What about the so-called "airbag" feature, will it still works with a different HDD?

ThinkPads just use standard notebook hard drives. I would call Lenovo and ask if you can RMA the drive only.

My wifi card is listed as "INTEL KEDRON 802.11A/B/G WLAN ADAPTER CA" which could explain why I don't find the heat to be such a problem.
While it may become uncomfortable after extended use, I think it's only a minor problem.
Because of the notebook's size, my hands barely rest on the laptop's palm rests while typing or using the trackpad. I keep them on my desk instead.

I can't give you any empirical data related to temperature. I find using the notebook on my lap to be slightly uncomfortable. It is much better if it's resting on a table or if there's something protecting your legs (and your chances of reproduction).

That is UNREAL -- can I ask if (1) you ordered through EPP/SPP, and (2) if you have called Lenovo for a discount and/or some kind of freebie? I'm in the same boat as you -- the ship date was July 18 but it is still "in process" and I have not received the delay notification :/

but is it the power adapter or the hard drive?

the sound comes clearly from the power adapter when plugged and connected to the laptop. it's sounds really unhealthy so i unplugged it and will call lenovo in my lunch break.

    it's an x61 (bmnotpls)

The sound comes from underneath the keyboard. But I agree with you that it must have been the power adapter problem, because it makes no noise at all when unplugged. But once you plug the AC in, it'll make that ugly noise after 10 minutes or so....seems like the noise is in sync. with the hard drive activity too. I'll call Lenovo too after work, but I think they'll transfer us to IBM technical support anyway - though I still think it's their problem during the manufacture process (if not adapter component defect).

Put your ear right up to the AC adapter and you'll hear the high-pitched whine is coming from it also. For some reason the sound is hard to localise.

There is no noise when I plug my X60s adapter plugged into my X61s.

Here are some sources that might be helpful for us new Thinkpad (pronounced in a "Lenovo" way, not IBM) victims:

    http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?p=311717&sid=d8c21793257622cd45fca2d595ee2267

    http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_high_pitch_noises

In my case, it only make noise when the AC cable is plugged in for charging. It's ok on battery....so I guess I'll just live with it, rather than sending it to Lenovo...having them "update the bios"....then having the same problem still.

If any of u decide to send it in for repair, let me know of your result. The Thinkpad has 1 year warranty, so I'll see if any other problem coming up.

well, i used spp. It says in process and the EST ship date changed to 21st.
I did not use my email address and credit card because I did not have american express. Thus, I used my friend's credit card and email address. I guess it is possible that they shipped it... but I doubt.

    X60s adapter PN, doesn't buzz: 92P1160
X61s adapter PN, BUZZZZZZZ LIGHTYEAR EDITION: 92P1156

I'm using my X60s right now with the X61s-provided adapter and I get the buzzzz/whine.

DO NOT ship your computer to Lenovo for this problem - the problem is the obviously the AC adapter and NOT the computer itself!

Ok...I called Lenovo, then transferred me to IBM, then IBM transferred me one more time back to someone. They agree to send me a new AC adapter, I hope they are sending me a non-defecting one. But I'll keep this defect one as a spare though, hehehe. I'll wait and see if the new one (same FRU P/N: 92P1155) works or not, if still not I'll make special request to send me an X60 adapter that time.

For those who's going to call for new adapter, call directly to this number to save time from being transferred back and forth.

I received an email that said my order was going to be cancelled due to federal regulations unless I agreed to a further delay. It is now listed at 8/7/07.

I have no idea what is going on -- it's really ridiculous. By the time I receive this laptop, the X62 will probably be arriving. This would be funny if it weren't so very sad.

In any event, I am very close to just giving in and going to eBay. Savings or none, a two-month wait is just unbelievable.

For anyone that has it, is the cover a little loose when it's closed?

umm i just called them and asked for 100 dollar off. She said she will send that request and email me back. Seriously, i think it is fair for me to receive 100 dollar off for waiting 2 months.

one thing i wanted to add is.. she did ask me what kind of compensation I am looking for, and she referred LCD monitor? case? or ?
I told her that I am looking for $100 off and a case. :)P i read that from forum.thinkpad.com) but, she said I cannot have both. Thus, I only demanded $100 off. Anyway, I just wanted to say dock station or LCD monitor might be a better choice.
