    Hello All,

Thank you all for your posts, I appreciate your time to assist me here. :)

Thank you very much for your opinion on this, and also any pictures you can take will be greatly appreciated. I am grateful for Lord Turel's picture and the screen does seem good but a few more shots would certainly help. :D

Yeah 2 years is excellent for a laptop, however on high value things like this I prefer not to have shell out for a new one after 2 years (sometimes fate is cruel! lol), 3 years is my preferred length of warranty for things like this. However to be honest I cannot remember a laptop that anyone I know had that failed within 3 years.

lol... believe me when I say I am pretty much there, but my fiancee will murder me when this appears in the house and the grilling I will get about why, how much and why will make "The Marathon Man" dental interrogation seem kind. :D So I need to make sure I have covered all the bases on this one. ;)

Thanks for the replay NegatiVe, much appreciated. The screen is important to me as I like good colours where I can get them. As the screen is my primary interface to the machine and I maybe spending a large number of hours playing X3: Terran Conflict on it, I prefer to ensure the screen can cope with the high contrasts that space games require to bring the "universe" to life.

Excellent then I may pursue the DIY keyboard change route as the difference between the german keyboard and the "UK" keyboard is about 150 euros on notebook.de or have I made a mistake on that ? I am thinking that providing the keyboard change went smoothly, it shouldn't invalidate my warranty ?

Thank you for this Lord Turel, I missed your earlier picture (I had read all the posts prior to posting), as the post alluded to keyboard layouts. I hope your they return your lappy expediently.

    Thank you all again,

    Sneakers O' Toole

I copied all the stuff to my new drive with some freeware tool. If I remember correctly it was Drive Image XML or sth like that. I don't understand what you mean about the F11 key :(

I used Smart Link a few days ago. It worked well, I managed to communicate with the other computer in both ways. I have a NetLimiter Firewall and the other computer had Windows Firewall activated.

    EDIT

I just found a review of the Camini Version on notebookcheck. Enjoy :)

I recieved my P310 last night [21st Apr]. Ordered from Notebook.de on the 16th of April and had it shipped to Singapore. I found the guys at Notebook.de very helpful / all of my emails were responed too within a few hours. They shipped the laptop out the same day they received the wire transfer and it was well packaged [came via UPS]. VAT in Germany was excluded, but I had to pay an import duty to Singapore via UPS on delivery.

Overall very happy with the laptop and the service from Notebook.de / if you are concerned about the wire transfer/transaction, rest assured these guys are legit.

I've not yet had a chance to test this puppy yet (for gaming), just been updating drivers.

Thanks again to all for the posts / very helpful

By VAT do you mean MwSt?

Also which keyboard did you get and did it cost more for it?

and one last thing, how much were you charged for shipping?

My card reader went and perminantly showed there was a card in. This slowed boot time and ment I could'nt use an SD card.I know I could have put up with it, but why should I with a laptop that is only just over a month old. Let me say that the international warrenty is more hastle then it should be as LG UK seem more then able but wont touch it or have anything to do with it as it was purchaced in Germany Hench my lappys whistle stop tour of the Netherlands, Holland and whatever other country they decided to send it to. On the plus side I might be getting it back tomorrow. Please dont let the fact that LG are stupid put you off this laptop. It is the best i have ever used and I realy miss it, but it is better to be aware.

VAT = the sales tax , its included in the price on the notebook.de site, but will be deducted when you ship out of the country

    shipping was 352.94 euro's

I got the US keyboard, was not charged extra for it.

Yes, was a bit extreme for shipping, but I really could not find another laptop this small with such a high spec. I looked at the BenQ X31 / Dell Studio XPS 13 / Zepto Nox and none of them were close. In Singapore they are selling the old P300 for 2,000 SGD (without the nice LG disk drive) <-- thats 1350 USD / I shipped the new one in for an all in 2,150 USD / the recent USD strength helped. My only realistic alternative for a performance laptop was Alienware which is a lot more expensive.

I just figured that it would be cheaper for you to buy in Korea. Form what I've heard Korean companies have really nice prices at their home market...

For those interested in ordering from Korea, try this site:

    http://www.gmarket.co.kr/index_eng.asp

I haven't tried ordering myself as the price (when converted into Australian $) is quite high, even when compared with shipping it from Germany. Also, the Korean model appears to have the tiger striped cover & it will probably have a Korean keyboard.

I guess the cheapest option for me being in australia is to find someone to buy the laptop for me in germany and send it to me? actually id probably be paying VAT for that. if you ship from germany to uk do you get charged VAT?

    http://s1.zapodaj.net/images/56026441.jpg

    http://s1.zapodaj.net/images/43245615.jpg

As Captain Cartman would say: "the f**k" :(

The surface of the "a" key is damaged and I'm afraid other keys will soon follow. It looks like left ctrl will be the first to join (already sth started happening on the edge of this key). Damn, maybe I will need to cut my finger nails more often ;)

Fortunately no other build quality issues were spotted...

Ok colour me confused. Got the laptop back everything seems fine. Says in the notes that they have just replaced the card reader. But they seem to have replaced the touch pad and buttons aswell? They just feel new like when i first bought it and more responcive if that was possible?

More than likely all that stuff is integrated into each other and the easiest way for them to fix it is to replace the whole assembly.

To clarify, I should get VAT back, if I ship to Canada? If so, and if vendor doesn't give me VAT back, can I try to get VAT back by mail through other European agency?

    Thanks,

It depends on the country / notebooke.de will not charge you VAT when you order it. Upon entering your country, it may get flagged for VAT. I lived in London for 8 years and imported several electronic items (X-box when it 1st came out, PS3 before it was released there). I found that around 50% of the time it was caught at customs and charged VAT / it also depends what is written on the box. <-- customs usually look at the value the item is insured for to flag for import duties. I did not bother with any tricks importing into Singapore as they are very strick here and I did not want any problems.

How to skip import duty: tell notebook.de or whoever you are buying from to NOT insure it and list something like "documents" on the customs form (rather than notebook computer) <-- I'm not sure they would agree to do this AND you will be forgoing any insurance on the item.

Stopped by Futureshop to pick up the P310 and found that they didn't have it.

I inquired, thinking it was sold out, but no.

Futureshop employees were told that LG is releasing a "new model" soon, but they don't know when.

Is the P510 coming to Canada? Or a revamped P310?

    Hello,

Just wanted to say I am now the proud owner of a US Keyboard "Tarsia" P9500. :D And I absolutely adore it. Its the ultimate Ultraportable at this moment. I would say more superlatives but I am too busy adoring the thing.

But I just want to thanks to all you guys for your comments and information; Notebook.de is just awesome for ordering stuff from and Rick Gabert is very professional. I would do business with them again without hesitation. They should open up a UK branch.

Now to go back to adoring this sexy wee thing; just not enough hours in the day!!!!!

    Thanks all,

    Sneakers

hi! i'm looking for a new machine for audio recording and stumbled across this one. now I#ve got a big favor to ask of you p310 user. for consideration i need to know about the dpc latency of this notebook. it's possible to check using the dpc latency checker available for free on this website: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml its possible to run and check without install. it'll be great if one of you would post latency results.

    Hi slimer2000,

    Test Results:
Vista Business, On Battery, High Performance Power Plan, Run for over a minute. (I would have run it on AC power but cannot at the moment).

    Test Interval 1000µs

    Absolute Maximum 1046µs

"This machine should be able to handle real-time streaming of audio and/or video data without drop-outs."

    Hope this helps.

I just ordered mine from notebook.de, and had a few problems with getting wrong receipts emailed to me, but got that sorted with Fred from sales (Fast support).

If you order internationally, make sure you use the receipt they send you in the GERMAN email, and not the first English email, as thats only an estimate. Weird I know.

I was told it should ship out tomorrow, so hopefully I get it Friday. I'll post a review of notebook.de's shipping/product as well once I get it.

I intend to upgrade the hard drive myself and put in a Seagate Momentus 7200rpm 500GB 2.5", has anyone upped there HD on this thing, how easy is it getting to the HD bay?

I posted somewhere in this thread a link to a translated instruction on how to replace the HDD. Generally it's quite complicated - you get to the HDD through the keyboard.

Anyone knows if 9600m gt run upcoming Battlefield 1943 on full details ? I know the specs haven't been annouced yet but just wondering. Well if 9600m runs GTA4 on medium than it shouldnt have any problems right ? Also i've read that 9600m gt is to deliver about the same graphics as xbox 360. Any comments ? thx

Doesn't seem like there is really anything close. I've been looking too...

The next closest contenders are the Studio XPS 13, and Macbook 13". Obviously neither of those come close in the video department.

Yeah I've considered that one, but again it's a far cry from the LG P310. Slower video, thicker, heavier, worse build quality, etc.

Wish ASUS or anyone for that matter would make a real competitor to the P310.

LG P310 is light, portable and the build quality is superb. I was considering F6Ve for awhile, since I've been quite happy with my W3J for the past 3 yrs. However, nvidia 9600 GT won me over ATI HD 4570.

Also, the battery life of P310 is decent (around 3 hrs with tweaked settings) and the LED screen is fantastic (on par with the Vaio Z).

My only concern being that P310 isn't available in the US and that international warranty only lasts for 1 yr. If anything goes wrong, shipping it international to get it serviced may prove to be a pain and expensive.

    Hello,

After having read a few pages of this thread, I wanted to get a P310 also.

So, yesterday, I went to notebook.de to order but to my surprise, there were only two models left : a P300 and a P310 with a P8700, very overpriced (1599 € !!!)

I sent a email to notebook.de to know if the others models (Tarsia and Camini) would be soon available again.
I have no reply for the moment...

Do you think that new models will be announced ?
    Maybe with a 4650/4670 GPU ? :)

I know this is technically impossible with all that LG have managed to cram into that 13" chassis, but I wish they could conjure up another miracle, and manage to fit a DVD drive in there as well!

P310 + internal DVD drive = me snapping one up ASAP! :)

I could contact them and ask about the availability of the tarsia model tomorrow.

Purchased mine awhile back, because I knew that they were in high demand and it was already sold out at several places in Germany.

Also in Korea, they've already refreshed P310 with T9600, so maybe they're doing that in Germany as well.

Actually, I prefer it without the DVD drive. I hardly ever use it anymore on any of my laptops, and besides DVD drives will probably go away much like the floppy drives in the near future.

Having no internal DVD drive means less weight and less heat too, which is a huge plus for me. :)

I am one week from ordering my next laptop, and I think it will be this one:
    http://edbpriser.dk/Products/Listprices.asp?ID=523283&Specs=true

I have a few questions, that current users might be able to help with:

    1. I had the LG T1 Express, which I loved, but it sometimes had some annoying sound from the CPU-fan. Like little bursts or alterations in fan speed. Diuhhhh.... diuhhhh.... diuhhhh. Any of this on the P310? How about fan noise in general? This review says it runs silently, but constantly: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-LG-P310-Camini-Notebook.15859.0.html

    3. The same review mentions a screen contrast so low, that they suspect their own test to be faulty:
So... how is the contrast in reality?

    4. I use headphones a lot, and static noise from the headphone jacks (strange noise when not playing sounds), are killing me on pretty much any other laptop (except my beloved T1). Hows that on the P310?

    5. The Dell XPS 13 has very similar specs for a similar price, but specs can cheat, and I heard a lot of bad stories about Dell. Does anyone have hands on experience with both the P310 and the Studio XPS 13, and could tell me something about that?
I don't care about graphics or weight (as long as it's under 2,5 kilo). I do care about stability, batterylife, screen quality, heat and noise!

I skimmed the thread, but 90 pages is a lot, so sorry for any duplicate question :)

    All the best,

    Andreas

    1. Dont worry the there is no fan noise and laptop runs super quiet and I really love LG for the software and hardware they provided if you hit FN+ Fan goes from normal into silient mode when you basically only hear hard drive activity. I guess you would have to go for SSD in that one :). Just found out that forgetting about silient mode downclocks GPU when gaming which is unerstandable fiuff.. just checked Wolverine x-men gameand it runs super awesome and in silient mode it lagged. Problem solved. Bassicaly i managed to play Far Cry 2 on Ultra High, High and like one medium in dx9 and fps was great.

    3. Contrast is alright but I have slight problems with brightness i mean its super bright and lowering down brightness usually help i tried messing with the colours etc in nvidia panel but still have to work on it to find a perfect one. Screen is not bad! its sharp but has poor viewing angles. Lets say if you watch a movie sometimes i have to change the angle of the screen when i lay on a sofa, I didn't find this as much of an issue and have to admit that screen is very steady and thin!

    4. I dont hear anything on full volume on headphones but when i plug in my portable usb speakers on max there is a bit of noise but i think its a speakers problem cause headphones have nothing like that.

    5. Sorry don't have m1330 or dell studio 13 to test it but was considering studio 13 as well and after reading that is has a design problem that screen covers up the fans while its open. Also battery is worse than p310 even though its hybrid. You should get up to 3/h 30min on lg or more if u undervolt it. Build quality is awesome no question. Only thing i would like to see how p310 looks with black keyboard and if could be upgraded to one :) i need to take a pic and photoshop it :] . I like the studio 13 backlid keyboard though.. but glossy gets greasy.

Oh did i mention gaming on this thing is amazing?!

Hope it helps answer some of your questions. P.S- Get P310 now if you still can! :D

I think I'll order one by the end of this week, but, still, it seems very overpriced right now...

I might even consider to purchase a P300, although the GPU less powerful...
