It`s also because of the relative strength of the dollar these days.

Well I was planning on just purchasing it from Taiwan, and not state side. Also whats the battery life while gaming? If it can manage two hours, I would be satisfied ^__^.

Notebooks seem to be very much a sideline business for LG, probably just to have some presence in the market. Their production capacity must be too small to bother selling in the US, normally the most logical market to sell to. I don't have much hope for it to reach the US any time in the near future. Fortunately I travel to Canada once in a while so can get there if I have to.

It does use the Montevina platform. Just look at current reviews of the P300 for battery life - basically don't expect too much. No switchable graphics yet :(

Hybrid SLI would be pretty cool. I wonder how LG managed to fit all this power into a portable notebook. *drools*

well three hours ish for the lg p300 isn't bad at all ^__^. That means what gaming is cut down by about half? so your looking at close to two hours.

If the p310 could pull that off I would be completely stoked. Now to dig around for 1800 dollars and order from Germany HAHA.

Since a couple of weeks I'm looking for a new Notebook to substitude my three-year-old FSC Amilo M3438G
First my favorite was the sony z11mn, then the successor z21mn. Now I'm waiting for the p310 cause it is matching my needs and budget more then the vaios. LG is not very reliable in their annoncements. Next week is CW 46! Let's wait and see...

    Thanks and cheers!

Yes, it is. On official German LG site the notebook is already listed and there is an info that it comes with double OS licence - Vista Business + downgrade to Windows XP.

    Check the german site

Well, this laptop seems very powerful, but I am looking also:

    Sony Vaio VGN-Z590

    Asus F6v

    Samsung Q310

Wich of them do you think is the best?

    (I´m sorry, but I can´t paste urls)

    Cheers!!

    Hi Usi,

F6v and Q310 are playing in another (lower) league.
The VGN-Z590 is overcharged (by far) and with 1600x900 res. you need good eyes.
The p310 has the fastest components and the best price/performance ratio.

    Ciao

Ok, thanks. I see it seems powerful, but I don´t know to this brand, LG. I know that Sony, Asus and Samsung are very good companies, but is LG as good as them?

    Thanks again and cheers!

.. and a smaller CPU but it may be not so bad, cause power consumption and heat is a problem in such a small notebook. 9300M GS 13 Watt vs. 9600M GT 23 Watt (max)!

But comparing to the P300 Canadian Edition (T8100, 8600 GS) is there going to be any improvement in performance?

Yeah I`m pretty disapointed by that. The videocard is substantially WORSE than the one on the p300.

Just not worth it. I might as well get a T400 for the switchable graphics so I can have battery and decent graphics.

Plus it still has the same old ****ty colors! boo!

Do you think it will be easy to change the hard disk (5400 rpm) by another one (7200 rpm)?

If you don't need a lot of space, the newer single platter 160GB 7200RPM drives consume less power hence run cooler and quieter than any other HD on the market. Unless you have the money to drop on a SSD... Seagate is supposedly releasing their 250GB/platter 7200.4 series in the next 2-3 months, so that might be an option if you want 250GB 7200RPM.

No one was able to say where the hard drive is located in the P300 and how it is exchanged, when I previously asked.

    I suggest using google:

    http://www.vr-zone.com/print/lg-notebook-duo--p300--e300/5626.html

On the bottom side there are a set of screws you have to remove to release the keyboard. From there, you'll have to open up the whole top. It's not as easy as those laptops with direct access on the bottom, but certainly doable if you have any experience with building computers. The LG should have a manual, I'm not sure since I don't own it, but it should have a schematic of the case somewhere. If not, maybe you can try LG tech support.

Seagate 7200.4 500GB available half december.

    Or WD3200BEKT / Seagate 7200.3 320GB if you don't want to wait.

Or Intel X-25M if you've got cash to burn.

Excellent suggestion, Sgogeta. Never gave number of platters much thought before but it makes good sense. A single platter 7200.4 would be very enticing.

SSD pricing just doesn't cut my mustard. Was very disappointed when Intel came out with the pricing of their MLC. Talk about taking advantage of the situation. Oh well, it's only a matter of time before other MLC manuf's are able to match Intel's optimisations or whatever their secret potion is.

I just can't get over what a huge letdown the Cdn models are. The 9300M is a joke compared to the 9600M, and there isn't even a high end cpu available. And the C$ is so low now. Sigh...

Will it have a built-in HSDPA adapter?

I was interested in the P300 before but since it lacked this I called it.
I guess a expresscard adapter could be a solution but so far I havent been able to find one, do they even exist?

Seems strange that such a great specced computer ain't got a mobile broadband?
