That's for desktops though, the mobile GPUs usually take a few more months, don't they?

with laptops like the asus u36 and sony z both apparently getting quite hot in reviews, it makes you wonder how hot this bad boy is going to get

here's a youtube clip of it
    ‪LG P330 Notebook röviden megtekintve (Hu)‬‏ - YouTube
i wonder if the glossy screen is just a red herring they've thrown in there.
cos with the glossy screen, many many people would have said "i would have got it but due to glossy screen, and low resolution, i'll have to look elsewhere"
And then they release it with a non reflective, high res screen!
    (wishful thinking)

any chance that this will be announced next month? why is there so little information on the web for this laptop? is it because it's on asian websites or LG is just really quiet?

Because they have contracted korean female vampire ninjas, they have killed so far many people who dared say the release time, I must hide now!

Laptops are such a small aspect of LG's products that they do not put a lot of marketing into them, nor do they distribute them very effectively. I expect that these will simply show up in Korea or the EU first, without a lot of fanfare. Then, we'll see if they are being imported into the US, which I seriously doubt. Either that, or it's the vampire ninja thing.

But the 560m didn't come long after the desktop version.

Although technically the 580m is an underclocked 560 Ti.

and what are the chances of being able to buy this laptop within 3 months for now? It's due Q4 isn't it, so Oct, Nov or Dec. Anywhere close to Dec would be a model that probably wouldn't out be long before an update to ivy bridge, so you'd think it's gonna be sooner rather than later...

well, it will probably be released in september, but the thing is.. when will it be announced? if it's announced, then we would know the release date and have an idea of its availability

if it's announced any later than next month, i'm going to have to give up on it

compal is one of the largest OEMs, if not the largest. Much like foxconn makes apple laptops, compal has contracts on selling their chassis for several companies, and producing the notebooks for some companies.

Yah, that laptop shown in the LG P330 article where it says Compal.
It's not the P330. It's the Compal Ultra Mobile Ultrabook from Computex (Look at the first picture in the gallery) that is a prototype for Ivy Bridge.
    Compal's 'Ultra Mobile' Ultrabook eyes-on -- Engadget

The older LG P300 series laptops were produced in South Korea, at least the ones designated for sale in Asia, so I doubt LG would contract out the LG P330 to another company.

Can LG really pull this off? It seems like every other company trying to put so much power into a 13.3 is having heating/throttling issues.

It's probably the crippled version of the 555m, and this notebook is thicker than the usual 13 inchers so I think LG has a good chance of pulling it off.

However, it seems LG is back to selling laptops in Canada, so at the very least, the P330 should be available here, then importing shouldn't be that hard to the US.

Well NCIX was a good deal with the 3820TG, so hopefully they stock it again. I might consider it depending on the cost. And a US keyboard would be preferable.

Seeing as the 15.6" P530 with only a 520M GPU + i5 costs $1200 CAD, the P330 will probably be veryyyy pricey.

Even the 14" P430 with i5-2410M and no dGPU costs $1100 CAD!

P330 will probably be at least $1600 CAD (i7 + 555M), which is approaching macbook pricing when converted to US

That's "very pricey?" lol? Sounds very reasonable for IPS panel and dGPU on an ultraportable. The Samsung Series 9 is more than that and you get less hardware! It sure beats the Z series...

Of course, that's assuming it's a flat conversion too :D If it's not available in US, there are importing fees, etc. which pile on quick :D

Do we know for sure it's an IPS display? If I remember correctly, optimus doesn't work with IPS displays bc it can only output 8 bit and IPS are 10 bit (unless the P330 has some funky manual switching going on)

The Samsung 9 series is much more of an ultraportable (super thin) and comparable to a MB Air. This is chunkier and more comparable to a standard Macbook (or it would be if Apple didn't discontinue them). The Y470, somewhat of a closer comparison, can be had for $850 with a 550M and i7-2630M, though with a 14" screen.

I'm hoping for around $1500 before all the taxes and fees, but it's not looking likely.

I was under the impression IPS was all but certain, but I'd have to go re-read all the threads/articles. I don't see why they couldn't do an 8bit IPS panel, and I don't see why they wouldn't be able to make it work anyways :) It's true, the MBAir and Series 9 shouldn't be direct competitors, but in the 13" market they (and the MBPro and Vaio Z) are the only real competitors for nice screens. I personally wouldn't expect this to be less than $2k when it's all said and done (taxes, fees, etc), and more if we need to change the Windows language and the keyboard. All I'm really hoping for out of this laptop is that it will nudge the market a little back towards using decent screens.

I'm with yromenapri on this one... if the throttling wasn't so bad I'd be more than happy to save the money and buy one :)

I just saw the p430 and p530 at futureshop. The screens aren't IPS.. but they're still awesome. The screen for the p430 is about 4-4.5mm in depth.

From their site, the p430 has pretty weak specs for $1100...

So comparatively, the p330 (with much better specs) should be like 1500+. Ruh roh.

Was anyone expecting the P330 to be less than 1500?

1500+ was how much all the older version (P300, P310) sold for as well at the beginning at future shop.

I'd actually be surprised if it's under $2000 tbh. I expect at least Z pricing here. i7 will be guaranteed $2000+, I'm thinking $2000 entry, up to $3000+ with i7 + SSDs.

I doubt it. LG doesn't have nearly as much brand power as Sony does and I doubt Sony sells too many Vaio Zs to begin with. Setting the price that high might put off the "I need a powerful but portable 13 "notebook" niche that LG is aiming at and will definitely put off people who just want a nice 13" thin and light because there would be cheaper alternatives.

For some reason I have a feeling that it's gonna cost more than $1500...
Being a premium ultra-portable, it also has an i7 processor, hybrid hard drive of 1TB storage, a nvidia gt555m and an IPS screen.
Compared to the lg p530 which has an i5-2410m processor, a 750gb 5400 rpm hard drive, an entry level nvidia geforece gt520m and no IPS screen all for $1200.
My guess is maybe minimum $1600.

    a AW M14X with minimal i7 + 555M + 900P cost below $1300.
LG better do it right with the price, otherwise ppl better go with AW(if weight is not too big of an issue ;)).

It will be an interesting comparison between these two. My guess is whatever the difference in pricing is the premium you pay for the portability. Lets see how huge(small?) the gap is.

then again, by the time when P330 come out, M14XR2 might be out also.

LG better release it quick ;)

Right. But M14x, throw in a blu-ray player and drop price $200 and I'll buy. You can buy several 15" notebooks that have blu-ray and 1080p and aren't much bigger and weigh same as the M14x and cost less. That being said, I wouldn't put an "almost 15 inch" M14x in the same class as a thin and light 13".
