I get the idea I should install Slackware if I want to get good at hacking. Meh...I'll learn how to program first (starting with Python) and familiarize myself more with Ubuntu.

And why is this in the desktop thread? I have no idea...

I thought feh was doing that....how are you running it, in a window? It was silent till I did the transparency thing....right now I've got a SuperKaramba script running to check it out, my last screenshot above top right. One thing I'll say, Superkaramba is sure easy as heck! But Conky is very cool as it's so configurable!

Yes, it's quick....but I don't understand the desktop evironment (looks sweet!), and I can't set anything to change it because it's running on an 800x600 virtual vid card....wish I could play with installed....way too much time investment in Kubuntu to switch again...my partitions are maxxed out :)

why do you guys have feh in conky? feh is for those with DM's like openbox, fluxbox...ones where you have to use feh to set the wallpaper.

I use feh in KDE so the conky is transparent. Without feh, its not transparent.

For me, all things considered, it's Kubuntu and Mandriva Spring.....but I'm a KDE Knerd converted from a Gnome Gnerd.... :D

EDIT: try swapping out Kmenu with TastyMenu (from the repos, MINT KDE uses this by default). It runs as a panel applet. Also, install Synaptic and use that rather than Adept Manager....Adept Installer (add remove programs is OK)

It's clean as hell....thing with KDE, 3.5.9 anyway, is that you make it that way...it's not like it used to be, i.e. Kludgy, Overiconified, Etc....it's faster on my hardware than Gnome....no lie.

You be good :D They'll have the 8.04 version soon. EDIT: Thomas, post up some pics when you get it tweaked out....may I recommend Segoe UI font? Replace Adept Manager( dont uninstall Adept Manager, it's a KDE component) with Synaptic....I think with Mint Synaptic is already installed, just not "menu'd"....but reinstall to menu it.....I'm also using Tasty Menu ala Mint in Kubuntu (just a panel applet like Kmenu)....love it.
