    Help.

I've got a major problem. About a month ago, using orignal VIsta one morning booting up i noticed it was taken forever. Foolishly i got impatient and dumped the power and tried again. again it took its time. I soon learn't that if i left it 20-30mins it would eventually boot up. But soon as windows booted up i have about 2 mins of use before it would lock up forcing me to resart - the cycle continued.

After attempted various levels of repair unsucceffully i decided on a full restore. This install with problem and was blessed with 3 days trouble free gaming. Last thing i remember was installing some updates and the original problem raised its ugly head. I then thought it might be a corrupt windows filles/installation conflicting with some updates.

I decided to move to windows 7 64bit. its installed fine, and have been using it for the last 2 weeks. Earlier today i was play some games for about 10 hours without issue. I left on windows screen while i popped out for 25 mins i got back and everything was all sluggish (both stanby and hibernate is disabled). I tried to shut down but it wouldn't respond, eventually it did. Wheen booted up i was confronted with the long wait, this time followed by a error telling me windows failled to start possible becuase of a software / hardware change. Please run repair. 2 hours in and im running a startup repair. Im still waiting for this finish.

Help. i've had enough. Im worried im not going to be able to explain this issue to technical support. And im worried if i RMA it the fix it temporarily ignoring the wider issue.
+ plus im due round my friends tonight for old skool LAN night and i'd hate to cancel.

this i dont mind. Gives me an excuse to go ssd. But i've got a hunch it might be a controller.

When running chkdsk it always detects "indexing" errors. Im not sure what these are.

Well for windows indexing is usually a process used to speed up searches. If your hdd is dieing for who knows what reason, searches may not work properly. I would still rma it and tell them the hdd is bad. If anything else you will get a new hdd that you can sell to help fund your ssd purchase.

i put hard drive in my other laptop and still encountering the same issue. Which while not conclusive, gives me the confidence that, as you suggested, it is the hard drive. As i cant afford to be without the laptop over the most boring part of the year i've decided not to rma it. perhaps in the future i shall, unless they'll be happy to just accept the hd back?

    thanks your help

hello, i have an MSI gt 725 210Uk, and was wondering if it has a tv tuner or not. And if it hasn't got one which one would you recommend for freeview tv?
Also I've installed windows 7 64 bits, but when i use my old drivers for the ATI and overclock it, the games keep crashing. So now i'm running with the windows 7 ATI drivers, but the graphic card isn't overclocked anymore which means less fps. Any advices on that matter?
    Thanks for your help guys.

no it doesn't come with a tuner , this will work "Avermedia A312" , i got a pinnacle usb tv tuner and i don't get all the channel since that digital crap which you had to re tune .... Mine crashes when OC'd aswell (whether it's from ati or msi) it does work on 530/880 though .. give it a go

Depends on what you want , internal or external ? i would go with the 1st link .. my sonyericsson phone got one of those at the back , so my best bet it's for reception as in antenna for the internal tv tuner .

Finally bought AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid Volar HX, it will arrive wednesday. I read lots of good review about it, and i even can plug a console to it.

Hum that yellow plug is an antena plug, that means there's an internal tv tuner :/ oh well can't hurt to have 2 i guess ...

I have a WinTV-950Q, it can pick up both OTA HD channels and ones through Cable. I get the local HD channels for free, plus the standard channels, and I'm only paying for the cable internet!

Well you're half right. The yellow plug is for attaching an external plug to an internal tuner card. But if you check you're system specs you'll find that you don't have a card installed. :)

got a netbook and a studio15 for travelling , the 725 remains at home all the time .. can't really call it mobile as it's massive and when it comes to battery .. forget it . besides reception ain't that good when it comes to pctv with the supplied antenna , no point taking it outside

My USB tuner is just a tad bigger than a flash stick. Plus it can get HD programming from both OTA and cable.

So I bought my gt725 last may and I had a question to ask everyone.

I noticed that my laptop was at first running very quickly and having no hiccups, but over time I've noticed increased hanging while playing WoW and some other games. I recently installed a cpu temp sensor and noticed my cpu cores are getting to around 82-85 degrees celsius while under a full load in WoW. Could this explain my hangups? I also notice that my first core will be at like 80-100% capacity but my second one will only be at 10-15%. What's up with that?

Anyone have any ideas? Is there a way I can turn my fans up?

    Congratulations ;)

Maybe try a re-formate, or something a little less drastic like a restore? It's probably worth throwing this issue at MSI anyway, just to see what they say. Just out of curiosity, what GPU temps are you pulling?

Pretty sure this has been asked before somewhere in this thread, and pretty sure the answer was no unfortunately.

really surprised that your having heat problems. Bought mine in May and it's been running pretty sweet. Play Dragon Age 1900x1200 4x AA and no heat issue after 3-4 hrs constant play.

I do have mine on my lap, but also place a large hardback book underneath which is slim enough to not be too heavy but the same width and hight of the notebook for the feet to sit on. This seems to provide enough space under the notebook for heat to dissapate properly.

An odd technique, but without this it would get to hot i'm sure.

Even my 212US has been getting pretty hot recently. More than likely due to it getting cold outside in Iraq and me actually keeping the room at a decent temperature rather than constantly keeping high cool on and freezing to death. On idle my GPU has been around 52 degrees celcius. Haven't really been focusing on anything else. Not really worried, if it craps out I'm sure MSI will replace it for me :p

getting a bit out of sync with the thread.

Anyhow, i've had one GT725 that burned out on my lap, which did get real hot and just stopped working completely.

Had my second one since late May, and it's been running real sweet since.

Maybe i just had a faulty GPU or mainboard?

I've had the laptop sitting on my bed listening to music with the fans completely covered once. Temp didn't rise above 60.

Sucks having faulty hardware, which is especially rare with an MSI. I've only ever heard of a handful of people with an MSI that had faulty hardware.

I think it may be time to get rid of 2 of the tutorials in my sig too. No-one uses the display driver one anymore, even I use mobility modder. And all the other drivers are now on the MSI site, and its just too hard to keep up with 4 operating systems. I'll keep the thermal paste one though.

Didnt realise that intel have XTU (Xtreme Tuning Utility) for the xtreme series and this program allows direct multiplier and fsb changes from it. (I think.)

Want someone to test it ^^.

Anybody have any idea what blu-ray drive we have in our GT725-212US? I was looking on the MSI website to see if they had a firm-ware update for it but I didn't see it and I've run out of time and must go back to work. Anyone might lending me a hand to the update I need to actually play blu-rays? lol

Sony Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500S is the bluray model of GT725-212US and the firmware version is 1.C0. Sony has 1.5 fw for that bluray as the last one but i try to flash it and nothing happens.i contact msi support and they told me that for our laptop 1.C0 is the only one that works. So no firmware updates at all

why you need firmware update to play blurays ? it plays out of the box .. with the supplied bluray player(buggy as hell) or media player classic (which is freeware)

i thought you said you would never come back :p ur period is over ? :D

guys, need your help on Turbo button.

It seems that I omitted something while migrating to w7. What should be the correct values in CPU-Z for this CPU? (Core 2 Duo P9500). The first screen posted by Dead2th3world is the same but the second has got much lower values. What do I need to check? Thanks!
