he's trying to use setfsb because he's trying to OC a quad, the q9200. Turbo-mode will only OC a quad by 4%.

 

Coz 24% = 4% on Turbo .. it doesn't seems to increase the clocks that much .. and that's too lame . Ok i'm willing to give a go , how about firmware ? any will do ?

EDIT : got it , flashing now
EDIT II : Flashing went fine , resetting cmos & eating m&m's
EDIT III : It removes ALL the options in the bios BUT Setfsb is working !! just hit 2.7 ! running prime now .... 1 errors on worker 1 ...
EDIT IV : stable @ 2702.4mhz & ran out of m&m's !(will try higher clocks 2mrw) i wonder what turbo will do under the new bios ... a shame i can't set my rams @ 800 in the bios anymore or change the timings .. how's memset doing for you guys ?

what bios r u using? firmware plays roll for cpu overclocking?

 

The only role firmware plays in bios level overclocking is if it disables/enables the overclock button. Firmware= keyboard,touch keys and fans. Bios=compatibility with components and how they are controlled like the voltages for cpu and ram also the frequency the ram is run at ect. I believe theres a conflict though with some of the bios versions with setfsb, because I can use setfsb with bios 1.10 for the 1722 "the barebone model" but if I use the same bios version for the gx/gt models, I can't use setfsb anymore.

Setfsb would detect the fsb properly once on bootup, but after I tried to change it, it no longer detected anything correctly and it would not change the fsb. intel extreme tuning tool also would not even install. Now that I no longer have any overclocking options in my bios it might work, I'll post back later after testing it.

 

Agreed , I can confirmed that it does conflict , works flawlessly with the barebone's 1s though ! but if you have a dual core you don't really need the barebone's 1s as turbo will suffice . My c2d P9500 hit 3.1 from 2.5 on turbo

Not same bios , otherwise it would work. Windows saying i should re activate my copy AS there is a hardware change & drivers .... so Rorschach did you managed to change your memory timings ?

From what i understand flashing the vbios allows you to push it slightly further, i think a person had his memory at like 1125 and memory over 550.

I may try see how much my memory can take (weathers up for it, UK is still sub - temps hehe.)

What copy of w7 are you using? i hope its not going to hit me too, (MSDNAA User.)

MSI afterburner gave me so much trouble. It's a bile of crap for me. For example, it's multi-profile feature is broken and when you OC, it forces the card to stay at the OC speeds all the time (meaning it doesn't down clock after gaming). It doesn't really detect the different power levels at all.

However, this TechGPU tool detects the different power-levels clocks and allows me to OC each one specifically.

If I could rep you a thousand times, i would.

Yep , When calling you need to enter 9 sets on 5 numbers , after that the automated told me i should talk to a rep. too late for that it's 22:30 over here

you can even use the keys from other languages in you account , so you get more than 3 but I used all of em !

I just installed Win7 x64 on my GT725 but most of the driver's are not working, and MSI website only has driver's for the 32bit.

Where i can find those driver's!

Windows 7 64bit should cover most of the drivers, use the driver cd that came with it. You should only have to install the cir driver and the 02flash micro card reader driver. You have to go to my computer and explore the cd to do it though.

 

Need to re-download the system control manager software from MSI too - its found in the utilities section on the website.

Not all rams can withstand overclocking though , had bad experience with the transend that came with 725 .. anyway 2.65 is pretty good for a p7450 , if you had turbo things would have been easier .. no need to set the clock at every start up . i found a tool , setfsb-auto but i'm hesitating to try it ..

yeah vista was hassle free although it was crap

 

most of the drivers in msi's site support x64.. when you download you will see the x64 folders in most of the drivers.. they just dont show that the driver support x64 i dont know why!?

 

Here's my final clocks. I could easily push the memory more (probably to 1100mhz), but I don't want to risk it. Vantage crashed at 590mhz core.
It seems the higher the gpu clock, the lower the cpu score.

Dont overdo the core, but the memory has a really nice amount of room to OC.

 

OK switching back to the bios from MSI's website(GT725) activated my copy of windows by itself .. so it was the barebone bios that was the culprit and not the hardware upgrade ! My 725 appears as the GX720 in Performance and tools section and with the latest it appears as the GT725 .. as windows is dumb , it probably though I installed it on another pc
No overclocking through setfsb anymore ........ I will have to live with the 4%(YAY ! ) of the Turbo button.

Or trade the bloody thing for an X9100

 

m8 from ur experience 1.0S bios are the only one that let us overclock q9000 on gt725?

 

Hmm, the advents bios allows it, but i dont know which ver it currently is :S will check soon! .

 

It might mean that slic2 was missing from the bios, I bet we could get zfactor to add it to it and that should solve the activation problem with windows 7.

You think so ? as it's the latest , the SLIC table should be about the same. need to mod it so that it also appears like the gt725 and not the gx720 , or even better .. mod the 725's bios to unlock the OC side of it . shame setfsb doesn't work !!!! .Anyway , Heard some good stuff about his alien bios , But doubt he could as he said he's not that familiar with msi

also i can change the name of the bios with an AMI editor but i saw smth strange yesterday. I had last gt725 bios 1.1 as u know and i opend it with that AMI editor program and the name of bios was Gx720...so msi built one bios for all 1722 mobos.
