The Q9000 can theoretically hit 2.8 GHz fine though,

ccc wont give me the option for overdrive, and i dont see any hidden menus for overdrive...
this is the third version ive tried and none seem to have that option. -
Is this on the alienware one auto?
We have other tools (That do not require installation)
And can bypass BIOS clock restrictions to OC if you like?
Also does anyone else have the issue with there GPU activity hovering around 20%?
I've fixed it
. Ok well traced, and it does something lol.
-
First of all, let me say thanks for being patient with my ignorance of this process. Everything may be right in front of my face and I just can't see it. I believe the "fear" of frying my laptop blurries my vision and comprehension a bit. This is a great machine and, athough newer stuff comes out everyday, I would like to have it awhile. I bought this to replace my HP ZD8000, if that tells you anything.
That being said, I somehow kept skipping the EC firmware flash. Now that the hammer has hit me in the head, do I flash it using the same USB tool that I use for flashing the BIOS or is there another process? I tried just running it in Windows, but it is not compatable with 64 bit. I believe that this may be that last piece to me being able to get SetFSB to work.
Thanks again for your assistance. -
That's suicidal ! stable ? pretty sure it's one of the rare cases.
Alien don't support overdrive , no point trying , just use GPUtool.
Yes you can use the same tool , but not needed as mine worked fine without the barebone's EC.
just relax ! take ur time -
Yeah n2d, i worry about burning the machine to the ground too, thus why i won't flash update my 4850 vbios atm because i'm a bit frightened of going wrong,
And yeah dead, viscious ran his q9000 at like 2.7 2.8 most of the time, along with all the other w90 owners haha, i was astonished to find it at that clock. -
We all scared at first , i was scared in flashing bios ... now it's seems "fun".
I've tried every single one that's compatible with the 725 .. If you are scared , things might not go that well.
That's pretty awesome , wanna pin mod mine
I know this is off topic but still wanna share

Oh god, what a bunch of fools!
Vista?! -
You have issues

Been following this with minor interest. Tried getting into OC'ing years ago with little success, so I gave up (turns out the problem was a flaky ASUS mobo).
However, seeing the 3DMark scores others are getting, I'm a little concerned that something may be amiss with my lappy:
I know I'm only running a core2 duo P8600, but this score seems a tad low. Any thoughts? -
Na, i'd say scores are fairly good, your getting higher GPU then i do (Cry) i gave up with OC on the 4850 too after my nice run, don't want to damage it (I do have the feeling that it will just randomly die on me.)
It really shows how well quads perform in this test,
Did you use turbo button? -
Upgrading msi gt725 any help would be appreciated
gt725 intel core 2 duo 2.53 ( i want to upgrade this bit)
ocz cl5 4 gig ram (already upgraded this)
640 gig western digital hd (did this as well)
running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
help ideas recommendations
much much appreciated
-
Hey diesel, i see your location as being the UK, i'd like to pass on the reccomendation from several users for upgrading your CPU to a q9200, which can be found fairly cheap on the ebay market, (Maybe other places?)
Your CPU at present is actually pretty good, and the rest of your components are tip top also,
And if you ever give overclocking a try, you've got some fairly decen't components to pressure with (But not needed really, the machine runs great without.)
Welcome to the forum!
And you could also redo all the thermal paste etc on northbridge, GPU and CPU. -
Ok, thanks! Yes I did use Turbo, and tried shutting down all nonessential stuff too.
Well I'll admit I am a little jealous over the quad core scores, but on the plus side I had a chance to show of my lappy to a friend I hadn't seen in a year, and he was duly impressed.
-
Haha, quads are nice, but i find i actually don't use it as much as i could, although i can power through any game on the open market today with good levels of detail! (Baby res ftw?)
Personally, i think the MSI machines offer the user the actual ability to try overclocking in laptops (I wish it was that easy in the Advents, haha!)
But no the scores are fine,
EDIT:I can read your signature pic, rofl! -
So the only reason your scor is higher cat is because of your CPU score?
-
Or I'm just not bothered
as there's some 5 series on the horizon
Welcome on board
Two choices for CPU X9100 or Q9200 , both cheap. Go for quad though
If you need recommendation on a seller , let me know.
I guess that's it .. like Cata said , thermal paste (MX-3
) and so on ... you could also get a Tvtuner if you're into that.
-
Also, @ the guy that is looking at replacing the thermal paste, theres a guide in my signature. -
Naa, its because i sat in sub zero temps overclocking rediculous levels when it turns out the updated vbios is giving everyone the same scores (or most likely the vbios) when using plain old CCC *Annoyed*
On the bright side i do actually have 1 official MSI machine, i have a wind!
lol.
I want a Q92 or Q93 and maybe an AW 4850 haha, just for the sake of it :S lol. -

Good find! Installing, then Vantaging stock run.
Sucessfully Installed
Beginning Run.
Forget vantage, dam res probs

I think my Quads actually lost its mojo,
2.8K on cpu? (Used to be 2.9 perm)
1 second lost in prime95,
Don't know how well the GPU is, any stock comparisons? -
Damn , vantage would have been nice. Time to OC that thing Cata !
That's good for stock run. -
Many Thanks for your kind words of wisdom. Im on ebay now lookin for that even faster CPU......
I have actually managed to get working XP drivers for the machine but the ATI drivers were some beta release that would crash my machine every so often when I would login to XP (very bizarre and random) thats why I ended up going Windows 7 64 Bit (Speeds ok but was a hell of a lot faster in XP but unstable none the less).
Another issue again with the dodgy XP ATI vid drivers were that if you even tried slightly over clocking the ATI via overdrive it would bluescreen during intense gaming.
Any other tips please let me know as I am all ears. Oh and I still have the XP drivers if anyone reallly wants them, oh and the AHCI 9 for slip streaming via NLITE if anyone really is desperate for XP shananigans. -
Oh and is there anything even faster then the q9200 ? Or is that as fast as I can get...
such at he below noted will this work:
~
Intel® Core™2 Extreme Mobile Processor QX9300
I think I found one but ever so expensive
-
By the way , IF you decide to go for the Q9200 , get a QAVS/QAVR .. avoid the rest.
And Stick with w7
EDIT : the fastest Quad is the QX9300. (for pm45 chipset)
Dual core has to be the X9100
EDIT II : ES should be cheaper , OEM/Retail version are way too expensive. The Q9200 is good value for money , is pretty much same as a QX9300 .. only difference is the clock speed , 2.4 vs 2.53. -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-Core-2-...00QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCPUs?hash=item19b62a2568
here is the guy who has the qx9300 I put in a bid I recon hes not going to accept but still worht a shot
Cant find this processor anywhere eles by the way its like they dont exist
-
Thats too expensive anyway, if you can, see if shirley has any CPU's that can be shipped over.
-
ONLY buy with reputable seller. As cata said , go with shirley or laptopmonkey (UK based). Got screwed last time by an Aussie (no not lambo
)
This is way too expensive.
EDIT : Yes. Just checked he ain't got any. PM him , and asked him if he will get any. The guy is kool .. that's with whom I traded my P9500 for a Q9200. -
ok on laptop monkey with ebay uk i pressume ?
-
Cata , how's the 10.1 ? Any vantage ?
-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-Core-2-...aptopMotherboards_CPUs_CA?hash=item1e5a586fe7
OK will this one work it looks more reasonable
And it comes with stickaz 2
-
Will work. It's a dual core though. Yeah you will get 2 stickers (w7 & Extreme + thermal grease) .. the best thing is next day delivery
But i recommend that you get a better thermal compound like MX-3 or ICD7 -
thanks u have been very helpful, you think this processer would make a better upgrade than what I have ?
-
It's way better and faster than a P9500 that's for sure
.I would personally go for Quad though as more and more games are optimized for it AND it's future proof !
Just an opinion , your call
. Whichever you choose , don't forget to post some screenshots and benchmark scores etc
No prob
-
will do jsut for the record I offered the Canada guy £500 and got no reply jsut going to make a lower offer of £220 with the heat sink compound that u recommended included a bit cheeky but worth a shot if he says yes then I will go for it
-
He will probably shot you down
but good luck
Don't forget , the other alternative is the Q9200 which is about the same and way cheaper.

As I just posted in your other thread:

Is this for real this time ?

Yep, this has been reported by anandtech, trustedreviews, hardocp and a few others.

Hurraaaay, 10.1's are operational,
Ati's last official release was 9.9 mobile,
Big jump
.
About time! -
Cool got that one from monkey for £220, was obvoiusly turned down for the Quad Core Extreme one though
Pictures coming soon.................. -
Welcome to NBR , yes you need the barebone bios ... check out his sig for more info.
Sweet ! , can't wait to see what turbo does on that thing
set it to 24% in the bios.
Don't worry , HyperX can handle it.
E: Time for me to upgrade as well , I'm getting a new HDD and using my actual one as an external.
Why SSD are soo pricey and small !!
II : Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9320423AS Vs Western Digital HD Scorpio Black WD3200BEKT , which one ?
-
Hmm, just quickly, i take no blame for anything that goes wrong during these "Experiments."
While Q9000 had a habbit of hitting 2.8 in the ASUS W90, we haven't actually hit that level yet...lol.
Most of the GT725 overclockers believe its ram restrictions, i personally believed it could be to the motherboard FSB tollerance but i could be wrong,
Only attempt hitting extreme clocks with decent ram since most arguments point to this,
Good luck! -
10.2 is out !
Edit :
bare with me , I'm checking the INF
II : Screw this ! nothing regarding us , we'll have to wait for 1.3 as alex said.
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx
III : **** too slow again
IV : This waiting games is getting on my nerves !!!! Looking for the beta now -
Dead, how many times?
LINKAGE!
Jokes, thought it was leaked
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx -
I had a dream last night that I found a Q9200 (don't even think theres such thing?) lying around somewhere, so I put it in my laptop and posted here saying how excited I was and you all flamed me
Weird... -
might need some pointers on overclocking this puppy, on another note the mack daddy of laptop hard drives is the western digital 320 gig 16mb cache 7200 rpm, part BJKT but there like gold dust to find i tried to get one through a supplier and he couldn't , but thats the fastest and best one, make sure to go for bjkt as that has yhe shock protection built in but like i said impossible to get a hold of. here is the link on wd site
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=477 -
There's one on amazon i think , i'll look into it. Turbo dude
set it to 24% in the bios and ur good to go
ALT + INSERT , advanced tab -
im on ot m8 had it shipped to the office
imgoing to do it there and then

Kool , should be with you by friday
