The M17 isnt really that big, its a 17" but its by no means the largest 17" out there.
Now a HP Dragon...thats big. -
can anyone give me hand ... i have my laptop for 5 months now and recently i have problems playing with battlefield bad company 2, someone told me my driver is outdated, but i have no idea how to update it
ive tried reading through this thread... cant find any clues...
help....
-
Uninstalled your current driver , then run driver sweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
When done , install one of these :
10.1 http://tech-report.net/forums/viewto...2530c27c77f78c
10.3 http://www.sendspace.com/file/2k07wf
Good Luck
Install 10.3 , works fine on the 4850 and no modding required -
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
anyone have any news on when 10.3 is actually gonna be "released" besides using beta versions?
my cards been angry lately... I really want my dremel to get here so i can increase airflow and make my ventilation mod look sexy. -
Haha, no clue when 10.3 will be out, my guess is mid march, or fairly soon, maybe second week.
-
ok... but i dont know how to uninstall a driver, can u tell me the steps? im completely clueless with laptops lol.....is the 10.3 only beta?
Thanks so much
p.s. the 10.1 link u gave me doesnt work
-
10.1 http://tech-report.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=70656&sid=f5274c3f79fd8f7b542530c27c77f78c
Yes the 10.3 is a preview , works great though.
-Download 10.3
-Run the green icon
-Unpack to whichever location you want to
-Click Next
-Now you will come to a window where you have 2 options (install or Uninstall) , choose uninstall.
-The next screen will give you the option to express uninstall or custom (it's up to you)
-When done your pc will restart.
Now run Driver driver sweeper , and tick the ATI box , then clean.
Upon restart , navigate the extracted ATI folder and run the .exe and ur good to go. -
6 cell MSI battery 4800 MAH = Where can I get one of these in the UK, I have only found one shop in the states, any ideas would be appreciated.

PS: Here are the guys who apparently carry them: They nver got back to me

thanks so much man, im gonna try that, btw... just wanna know, what does a 10.3 preview lacks from a full version 10.3? will it expire or something?
-
The final version will have some minor fixes etc. No expiry date on it don't worry + it's safe and stable
Either you use the preview OR wait till the final version is release (which should be about mid march or last week of march) To save you the hassle of installing and uninstalling again
No prob
-
hi i uninstalled the thing, cleaned it, and pressed the catalyst profile app thingy... and installed it... but after i press finish, nothing pops up?
-
You need to install the green one not the red.
-
thx got it done, btw, where does it show it is 10,3? cant seem to find it anywhere?
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
It wont, CCC currently shows the wrong driver version. If you check the 2d version though it will give you a number you can use to compare
(something like 8.xx.xxx) -
No prob man
. Like Alex said , your driver version should be 8.71* & catalyst version differs .. IF you had 9.7 installed before updating , then 10.3 should show up as 9.7

I'm pretty sure you don't need new ram to do that, you just need to change your ram from 800mhz to 667mhz (i think - havent been on here in a while so let someone else confirm)
Blazin -
Stock rams are crap when it come to overclocking.
-
I have bought several variations of RAM and have so far noticed that only when the ram is set to 667 does it respnd well to being overclocked.
The several being that of OCZ and G-SKILL, Dead2th3world does however recommend Kingston, I have not had any experience with Kingston but can confirm that my experiences with these 2 types have yielded the same issue. I was almost thinking of getting this range, but am not sure if this will resovle the issue but it is CL4 which is meant to be mega fast etc

Hope this helps. -
ooic.. no wonder it showed 8.xx lolz... i was like .. thanks guys!
-
guys btw.. any ideas how to improve my laptop???
its untouched right now... but im looking into upgrading it...dunno what to do with it.. want it to have a better performance in games.. -
Depends on what you already have. What's your specs ?
-
You have to overclock both together, although you can select main ram speed depending on bios ver.
-
im still using my default stuff, didnt do anything to it yet
-
Here's what upgradable in a 725.
Processors : X9100 3.06ghz - Q9200 2.4ghz - QX9300 2.53ghz (Q9000 & Q9100 are in the same price range as X9100 & Q9200 therefore not worth it as they got lower clocks)
HDD : Hitachi 7k500 Travelstar , WD Black or an Intel X25 (depending on budget. Only the Hitachi comes in 500gb format & SSD has to support trim .. if not , then avoid)
Rams : Kingston Hyperx (CL4 is faster than CL5 but more expensive. is it worth upgrading ? Only if you Oc as stock rams can't handle it.)
By the way , using Turbo to Oc a Quad only increases it by 4% . Good Luck
& the Q9200 is only available as ES (Engineering Samples) and not retail or OEM.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
This might be helpful for that person who wants to upgrade; Laptop Monkeys got the quad core processor with the highest specs, tempting........... yet I am very happy with mine

Ouch, the price has certainly risen on those.
When I got my X9100 those were available for about £300. -
i think its more cost effective to try and get a q9200 instead, as its only 0.23ghz slower and has the same L2 cache size
-
Agreed , not worth the extra £259.
-
I personally thought i did well with my dual core especially after reading these articles interestingly enough
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080510223719AAt3Qci
http://www.notebookforums.com/post3045036.html -
Duals nice, but this time, it is actually quite silly purchasing a dual for a horridly large price,
Also think about the amount of overall applications you can have open on a machine, the quad will make mince meat of this as well!
And i've seen a qx9300 hit 4ghz, don't know about the x9, but that qx was on steroids. -
You know that's a 2yr old discussion thingy right ? When games weren't optimized for quads.
Things have changed now , quad is the way to go
.. future proof
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
To be fair, Dual cores were still the things to go for even last year, its only in the last 6 months I'd really say Quads are starting to become worth the outlay (sometimes), at least to me (partially because the price difference is beginning to drop heavily).
Unless you heavily multitask or perform ulterior tasks, a lot of games ARE still dual core enabled, theres not THAT many that are quad core.
A dual core running at 3.41Ghz is still pretty nippy
These days though I do get involved in things like video conversion mind which has also probably swayed my thoughts. Many of the decent programmes for encoding are capable of utilising 4 cores nowadays, which wasnt true a year ago certainly, and in many cases not 6 months ago
-
I think the most important factor everyone is forgetting is that the quad gives you higher boasting rights.. "I have a core 2 extreme.. QUAD!". Now thats the sort of thing I wana be hearing
-
Haha bragging rights are good, but its accurate,
I can play all games with no bottleneck on 2.0ghz of processing power, so esentially, getting a dual core only has 1 plus to it, lower power requirement so more battery and less heat,
Although since its high end *X9** * then its good because it will perform slightly better then say a quad running at similar speeds (q9000 in low power),
If we were doing some multi task (Video) encode? the dual only has to work with two threads as opposed to 4, and we all know multicore isn't quite parrallel yet (Forgive any poor spelling!) -
Yeh i am really tempted to get a q9200, but theres just a few things i'd like cleared up.
I know that I will have to flash to the barebones bios and overclock with SetFSB, but will I lose complete functionalitiy of the touch panel (i know the turbo button will not work) or will I still be able to use the media (play/pause etc) and shortcut buttons. (I remember reading about using the right EC firmware?).
Also, after putting in the new processor, will my version of Windows invalidate itself due to the hardware change? (I dont mind cos I can just get another serial key from MSDNAA)
Blazin -
Might be still good to today's standard but why choosing a dual core when a similar priced quads is available.
Blaze , the touch thingy will still work as usual .. only the BIOS is needed , not firmware.
And putting a new processor doesn't invalidate ur copy of windows.
As for MSDNAA , you can get key for french/spanish or any other language , it will work on English version.
And I got a 1.10 version that won't invalidate ur window's copy , and setfsb works fine on it. Still went back to the MSI BIOS though as overclocking is not really needed on the Q9200
Just wanted to see how far i can go on it ..
-
Hey u know what everyone: different strokes for different folks. Its all fun and games. I am very happy with my 1722 and what i have been able to do with it for me. At the end of the day we have options while the average joes buys a crappy laptop and is none the wiser.
But that quad core sure is tempting
he he
As u said the bragging rights LOL -
Waaa, i can only get 1 key from MSDNAA lmao, thats unfair :/.
-
Really ? you can't download a fresh copy of another language ? All you need is the key anyway
-
Hmm, well even if it invalidates the same key should work...right?
I'l have to check for other lang, but i don't think so. -
The same key should work again on the previous BIOS.
Even though you can phone up Microsoft and sort it out .. it's automated anyway , just remember to press the right key when asked on how many pc you have installed it .. in our case , it should be 1. There's loads on numbers to input though ...
It's free on mobile , just remove the "0"
EDIT : Sorry i got things mixed up , the automated call works if you have installed windows on the same pc more than 3 times.
As for the hardware change related to the BIOS , i think you need to talk to a rep IF you ain't got a key -
Hey guys, i'v enoticed that my computer freezes times to time, did it once yesterday and twice today. Any idea what can i do to stop it?
BTW i've never up dated the bios, not sure how to do it, and abit scared, any advice and should I do it? -
Hey sid, hmm freezing, has it been dropped before? any rather new software installed? Has it been ok up to a certain point,
Also how audible is the fan itself on the laptop?
Hopefully we will sort this nice and fast for ya bud
.
-
hmn... seems it wont make much of a big difference upgrading it
.. using dual core lolz.. i still rmb reading on forums, it wont make a difference playing games using dual / quad a yr ago... o well...

well I have owned it for over a year now. So far it still runs like a champ. Quality is real good for MSI from What i see of this model. Still running it stock and no overclocking. Only upgrade I have ever done was windows 7 pro and it was a painless process. I still game on this bad boy and I am very pleased to have made this purchase. even now 1 year later I still think its a really sweet laptop. I don't even have the urge to upgrade yet.
