hmn.. i have exactly the same configurations, still using the default windows though... havent got it up to windows 7... is it significantly faster for windows 7? btw how do u upgrade the windows? do u need to backup the msi files e.g. the laptop drivers first?

Why based on the above ? he got the same CPU as you.

    Seriously ? £100 for the p9500 ????? I traded mine for a Q9200 which is worth £200!

EDIT: wait before buying the QX9300 , it's way overpriced for an ES CPU. These were selling @ 300 a piece a month or so ago .. just wait or have a look around

Very nice, if those are linpack stable then even better :)
Mine hits a system/board clocking wall above this, which could be down to the power circuitry or the voltages being supplied to various components, as RAM timings dont seem to affect it and it's a hard lock but 3fsb higher, whereas I'd expect some signs of impending instability before the hard lock under normal circumstances.

it was clean format and install for me. I had to use the 32 bit drivers even though I have a 64 bit system. It is faster on windows 7 and actually uses all 4 gigs of memory. Well worth the trouble if you want my opinion. However if you are happy with vista no need to change its basically the same minus a few os tweaks.

It should be stable as it's turbo OC ;)

Encountered the same issue as you when trying to OC my quad .. without turbo , I can't go over 2.7 without a BSOD.

So I guess it gives the CPU more juice when it's on.
Why do you want the 8gb though ? You do know that performance should remain the same right ? and that most of the extra 4gb should sit there unused.

By the way , Lee got some 8gb for less. check his store. £179

    Hi guys,

Firstly apologies for jumping striaght into the middle of your thread but I've been flicking through all of your posts and you look exactly the people to ask about the issue I'm currently experiencing with my new laptop.

Basically I've recently bought an Advent 6555 which as I understand is essentially a rebadged MSI GT725.

After a lot of blood sweat and tears I've managed to update the BIOS to the latest version as on the MSI GT725 download page.

HOWEVER, no matter how hard I try I cannot seem to update to the latest firmware for the EC/CAMERA/VGA. I'm currently running Vista 32 (but plan to install Windows 7 64 in a few days) and have tried the flash program but nothing happens. I'd be forever grateful if anyone could advise me how I can do this.

    Haha,

Guys quick question, i'm wondering if anyone here knows,

Do components come directly off a manufacturing line? or are they tested before hand?

Usually they will get a brief testing, but it depends from company to company and part to part. Most manufacturers expect a percentage to fail/be DOA.

    Hi guys,

Me again - cheers for the tip-off Dead2th3world, I'll give that a go - am hoping I can get the EC firmware updated as the bloody thing's playing up big time and is refusing to boot when plugged in at the mains...

Cataclysm, I'm not totally au fait with how to post images so I'll just have to tell you that GPU-Z shows my BIOS as 'VER011.016.000.020.031382'. Is that good or bad?!

I'll let you know how my firmware updating attempts go...

Video hardware error "A problem with your video hardware caused windows to stop working correctly."

Been getting that for the past 3 days now when gaming.

According the windows debugging thingy , it's "probably caused by : atikmpag.sys (atikmpag+60a4)"

No BSOD whatsoever .. the game the froze for couple of sec then carries on normally.

No it's not related to overheating nor overclocking .. as atikmdag IS related to bad OC .. but what the hell is pag , never encountered this crap before.

Is the stupid card dying ? :p

OR is it related to the preview driver I'm using ?

Pssst. Cat...told you my machine in sig was going to get more beasty sometime soon as I was turning to the 4cored dark side :D

    RE: Above.

Try removing the driver, completely cleaning out any remnants, then reinstall/revert to a known good driver.
Those sorts of issues are usually caused by slighly dodgy driver installs/bugs or failing cards.

I knew it ! :D Lee took the x9100 back ? is that your last upgrade ? :p

To go higher you need to use setfsb and flashing your BIOS .. if ur up for it

EDIT: is that screenie with turbo on ? or is it with C-state & EISP off ?

Cool happy to hear the vid cards stable. No I actually kept the x9100, I could always flog it anyway at a later date. So I am not fussed about that.

I'm also getting the 8 GIGS of RAM by monday :)

But overall performance has increased imensley the 4 cores due make the pc much more zippy when ur multi tasking and games still seem as fast if not faster with this processer then the x9100 :)

    Turbo 20% on,

any tricks to speed it up anymore etc would be appreciated

    THANK YOU

Serious? mine only goes up by a tiny 4% on turbo ..

Set it to 24 .. that's the best it can offer without flashing the BIOS.

Witnessed anything weird when using turbo in games ? Like voice is not in-sync etc ?

Its visually stunning but a bit slowww, and boring at times. Ony installed it for the quad performance etc. Now trying to get into Battlefield Bad Company 2, looks COD2 ish but still fun and runs astonishingly (Quad optimized as well :) )

    Its lookin good quite fun.

Oh here are the 3d mark scores so far with 16% OVerclock

No support for X64? What are DICE doing! :S

That'd explain the low CPU usage i think.

    What settings you running diesel?
