Suppose its entierly possible that the Q9000 frequency isn't cutting it, but it is only using 2 cores from what i can see so i don't quite get it.

 

Disable C-State and see if that makes a difference. All four cores will remain active .. none will go to bed

Time for an upgrade Cata ! Q9200 is the one you want

 

I have to agree, the 9200 is very tempting !

 

It would be more user friendly to you as you can use setfsb on stock BIOS. Half the price of a QX and only 13hz behind in clock speed , can't go wrong

It does appear as an extreme CPU under Intel processor identification thingy too .. for bragging rights

 

It is an Xtreme CPU it also features unlocked multis (Whenever something compatible actually works with it.)

I think maybe a beta to the 9300 chips?

 

Could be , or may be they had planned on releasing something in between the Q9100 & QX9300 .. but decided to scrap it as it was too close to the latter.
Only them can answer that but who cares , we are getting it for cheap

 

Aye, the Q9200 supports dual dynamic acceleration, so that could explain why you can throttle up nicely on setting afinities.

Am starting to wish i wen't with the GT725-087 uk though, i would have liked the meaner look, overclock bios ops, the slightly better then consumer ram, upgradability, although the p series processor is nice too, the 9500.

I need a new hard drive first haha, after two drops it feels like it chugs a bit at times, and HDTune has hit new lows.

Other then that, fine piece of kit, am actually enjoying the laptop speakers right now .... hah!

I don't want the 4850 to die though, wonder how long on its lifetime it has left after the overclocking, and occasional OC BSODS lol.

My p9500 served me well , was a bit too eco friendly for my linking though but great processor.

I'm wondering the same since it been crashing on me recently .. none yesterday and today .. fingers crossed ! time for me to downclock it a little.

It was a pain removing the card .. that tape/pad thingy was kinda glued to the mobo .. had to use force to remove it. I took all of it off

Na it wasn't me no more games for me for the next 3 to 4 months i'm afraid .. per-ordered the expansion of GTA4 and last week I bought OP2 D.Rising .. that's enough for now + the games I bought in December which I haven't even played yet .. Bad company will have to wait

 

I keep telling myself not to buy any more games, however steam seems to have some kind of control over my debit card. Just bought Batman Arkham Asylum, Just Cause 1 and pre-ordered Just Cause 2 (the demo is so win), as well as Supreme Commander 2 (which I have barely played) and I havent even run Bioshock 2 yet! (still completing the 1st one). I love uni life

 

Sounds just like me I bought so many games which I haven't even tried yet .. and haven't touched the 1st Bioshock in like 8months now .. I need to finish it! but it doesn't appeal to me like when i 1st played it. H.A.W.K is like a 4.99 down my local game store (tempted but need to resist ) .. Did I say I bought Chinatown wars last week for a fiver during play.com's 1 day madness ? great game

Hawx is a game well worth buying man,

Its gameplay is something out of this world when it comes to flight sims,

Its not boring like the rest of them, especially when you unlock the F15/16 Active, i forget, that plane is beaut!

May be That's the average CPU usage Fallout3 uses .. I use my G13 to monitor hardware performances.

Right now I'm playing Pro Evo and the average CPU is 10 - 30% and memory at 34%

Runs the same at 1080p as it does in 1440x900 on my laptop :S

So bottleneck is definately on the CPU!

Afinity set 2 core,

If it used all 4, at 1440x900 the load would be shared and split off from the GPU because its a lower resolution, effectively meaning i could play the game with max everything flawlessly, but i can't get the damned cores going lol.

 

The flag thingy can be turned off through the Action Center I think.

It should run faster at the Advent's native res .. what's going on here.

E: as you exits the main game window , the CPU & memory usage will decrease .. you need to find an external way to test it or while the game is running at full screen.

 

i really wish i could oc my card a bit. I dremeled some more holes into the bottom to increase cooling but apparently that wasnt enough, ill be doing a bit more modding of the holes...

im still seeing an idle of 60c, and a load of 81c, though with cutting holes i dropped it from 90c max.

 

Aha, thus why i had the performance charts up, and as you can see we were continually on 30% through play :/.

Keep going auto, maybe a powerful cooler now? your temps seem ok, aslong as you don't furmark.

strange heat problem, but only with Bioshock 2.

I use ATI overdrive with clock set to auto tune. If I set the overlock to it's max settings, game runs for 5 mins or so then freezes, and then Win 7 error, video display has stopped but recovered from an error etc:

If I tune the overclock down, slightly, game runs fine.

Whats strange about this is that other games I have such as Mass Effect 2, Fallout, Dawn of War Choas Rising run no problem for hours, even though core temp climbs upto 78-80 degrees and Overdrive is set to max.

I can only guess that there's some graphics effect in Bioshock 2 that would cause the video card to shut down. Temp dosn't exceed 78 degrees when the card stops working.

I've had quite a few problems with this game working generally, so perhaps it's not the video card. Odd though since I'd assume the windows error to be associated with overheat.

I'm running 10.3 CCC beta.

 

Atikmdag is related to overclocking and not heat .. So far from the test I've done , games that run on the UnrealEngine are the most affected .. Bioshock , Unreal III etc etc. As mentioned by fishslice.. Condemned is badly affected too.

To test my oc I use games stated above , it's way better that those crappy software around.

I got rid of it though I can now run games at 550/900 without it crashing on me.

My games looks better with 9.12 than 10.3

@Cata , how's the BC2 going ?

 

I can't run any game with overdrive ticking, maybe the bios ver im using, but with naf res there is no need to OC .

BC2 is still failing, its playable, but the massive bottleneck is leaving my GPU at 100% slightly struggling,

I have an 8600m gt that runs smoother then this! granted not in highest settings lmao.

See , told you quad is the way to go. I don't know about that but it's more fun overclocking a quad than a dual core that's for sure.

Hey everyone i am now able to run oc while new 8 gig corsair 2x4gb is set to 800 mhz speed. However the ram is cl6 wonder if this has anything to do with this ?

 

Hmm looser timings can help with stability, i find this when dropping the timings on my cheap consumer ram .

 

and on another note how can i overclock my ram or lower the latency for that matter ? is this a software solution etc or a possible bios hack / setting etc keen to know

Alt+insert in BIOS .. northbridge - disable SPD - then you will be able to manually change the timings.

You won't noticed any difference in lowering the timings

 

coolany recommended settings and if the ram is showing as cl6 in cpu z is it likelythat it can b overclocked, thanks again
