Glad to see there's another trigger happy user around :D

Like he said , dust is not an issue .. Once in a while just pop open the cover and blow some compressed air over.

I need to clean my cooler's fan more often than my lappie , that thing is a dust magnet :p

Hmmm peltier , I think it's better suited for desktop than a notebook.
    (GTX480 anyone ?) :p

I'm curious as how well the 2 little fans dealt with the heat on the otherside.

Dude if you planned on doing it , don't forget us ! :D

    Hey all

How can we optimize our monitor display. Like how have you all calibrated it.

How have you all optimized our speakers and network settings too?

What's the maximum RAM on the 725-212US?

Is it 4GB or can I go for more? I'm getting into photo/video editing and 4GB just isn't enough these days.

I really dont think these are grade-A display panels with hidden menus or for which you need to call in some professional $1000 calibrators. These panels are not meant for professional stuff, get a external.

And by professional, I mean if its your job, not a hobby.

As for speakers, its Cata to blame, where is damn tut?

    Network setting ?

Unfortunately the max supported ram is 4GB since we only have two slots and a max of 2GB can be put in one slot.

    Tested?
Coz I checked Kingston site for MSI GT725 and they report 4GB max (total).
Btw I still use 32bit and even 3GB doesnt get used up, the CPU is the bottleneck :(

I think it is the slowest of all mobile quads.(Its performance is pretty much similar to Duo's in games and applications, except in GTA IV and applications that are multi-threaded.
Most people had got their GT725 with Core2Duo's and have upgraded them to better quads, mostly to the Qx9200(It is still not a retail product, only available as ES)

    I think diesel runs a QX9300.

Changing is not a problem, except that you will lose your warranty. And th only place to get Qx9200 is ebay. I believe Qx9300 can be bought elsewhere too, like at amazon.

But I still wonder the price difference between qx9200 and qx9300 ?

On ebay the Qx9200 was just under £200, whereas the cheapest I could find a Qx9300 for was around £500, and considering I have my Qx9200 running at 2.8Ghz most of the time, it just wasnt worth paying an extra £300 for 130Mhz of clock speed and the same sized (12mb) L2 cache.

hello. I have not been on this thread for months but i was just wondering if anyone is using the drivers ATI catalyist(10.4) from the official website and not from DNA ATI.

I just notice that the website now supports Mobility Radeon now and I havn't updated my video drivers for so long.

Yep they started it with 10.3 drivers. DNA and Mobility Modder are dead :(
Most of us, if not all are using 10.4, at least I see improvement.
And the best thing is no inf , simple easy download.

I have a brilliant idea Dead! You could just send me your 'holed' cover, then I use that, then you don't need a cover because your cooling will increase even more! (and then I have a drilled cover, while still maintaining the integrity of my original one)

    Perfect!

your best bet guys is to check ebay, and see if you can scrounge one off of there, I snagged one for like $20 about two months back, and now its my backup cooler incase I dont like my little cooler mod I did, I'd love to post a guide up here but I find that I don't have nearly enough time as of late. And as for cooling the verdict is still out on weither or not this diamond thermal paste is all its worked up to be or not.

as the GX740s slowly creep out into the market owning one starts to look more and more appealing, especially since I can almost afford one now that I sold my gt725, and that 4850!

I was tempted to go for a GX740, but seeing as its only really a cpu and gpu upgrade (and a screen downgrade for me) it wouldnt be worth it, especially as the i7 would not perform noticeably better than my Qx9200 @2.8Ghz. I just really want to be able to max out the settings (with DX11) on Metro 2033. Guess it would be more cost effective to just buy a desktop :(

Edit: Also, after looking at some benchmarks of the 5870, it really isnt as powerful as I had expected. It would be so much more cost effective to get a low end desktop i7 and a 5850 (yes I know, desktop vs. notebook debate is years old, but i'm just pointing out how big the gap has become)

I would actually like to stick GDDR5 on my 4850, bus I guess is 256-bit like the desktop, and enlarging the bus is always more expensive than using faster memory.

As far is baking is concerned, even though the 5xxx series is supposed to run cooler, they are turning out much hotter, so 5xxx series owners will be baking their cards before us. And the second thing is somehow the 10.3 and 10.4 drivers have been more kind to the 4xxx series rather than 5xxx series.

And for the first time I would side with what nVidia had said that Dx11 is nt that important, and truly the difference between dx10 and dx11 isnt great as most games are built intentionally(except Crysis :p ) for consoles and those consoles are leagues behind us in Gfx :D so they dont end up making games depending heavily on dx11 hardware, maybe in Future......things will change.

the main thing that i'm looking at is that I am at somewhat of a crossroads for my machine, it performs well, but I'd like something with a little more power, being that my alienware 4850 refuses to overclock, I guess its a firmware thing, I am somewhat SOL when it comes to boosting that badboy higher, as for processors, I'm not sure if I wanna spend $300 on a new processor, or just get a new laptop, yes I know theres a difference in price. But i'm also taking into consideration that my machine cannot supply enough power as it is right now to keep both my cpu and gpu running under max load. Whereas with an i7 and 5850 I should be able to at least keep the machine stable. I am tempted to try and flash my card to an msi VBIOS but that can bring untold complications, incase dell has put anything on their cards to prevent such an act.

The AW 4850 should overclock like a mad man?! the 5 series cards are 128 bus, if you somehow found a way to gddr5 up the 4850 then your insane, although then the GPU core would bottleneck i think hehe, try use TechGPUTool 1

I'd say your processor is still solid for the day, i mean we haven't really seen technology move to much, its just the GPU which seems to have picked up nicely with 5 series.

thats the thing cat, ive tried that tool and itll go up progessively and then when I hit stop, it drops down to zero for the available clock range and then nothing.

But if I enter the utility without doing anythig it will stay at stock reference speeds.

As for cooling at stock speeds i'm already breaking the 90 barrier in most cases, so oc isnt much of an option unless i wanna fry my card.

I found this site has sticks for $140 each and a coupon for 5% off, but I'm not sure if I can trust their RAM entirely.
