Nah, I bought this about a year ago. Recently reformated so I need new drivers.

So all working now ?

@ xataxx, this laptop has both digital out as well as optical out, which are serviced by the port closest to the firewire port.
A TOSlink cable or TOSlink adapter will work perfectly and give you upwards of 7.1 surround through your headset. So far it works with dolby digial II, as well as DTS. So far I have only been able to see 48khz from this laptop, however that was limited by my amp. I assume that with a better amp you may be able to get it up to 96 or possibly higher...
As for addon sound cards, with a laptop its probably still pointless, more than likely theyre still software so the tweaks to sound quality are more than likely minimal... The last two items ive seen for laptops was the X-Fi expresscard addons and the usb audigy...
Realtek has actually levelled the playing field quite a bit with this laptop with features and functionality for audio. The only thing it lacks is for designers as theres only a mic in and a line in. If youre going pro I would understand an external audio card but otherwise for gaming it still seems like a waste. -
While your opinion seems right in theory, my external sound card sounds significantly better than our on-board sound with music, gaming, and producing. Even through the significant improvements of my external sound card, I still feel there is even more improvement found in higher end desktop sound cards.
Unfortunately, my X-540 5.1 Speaker System do not come with a optical in. I have yet to actually use the optical out of our laptops sound card, I will admit.
Albeit software or not, I still highly recommend upgrading to my external USB sound card because even people with non-accustomed ears can tell a significant difference. -
Your X540 will work perfectly with tripple 3.5mm audio in jacks for 5.1 surround (I have the younger brother and they rock.) the 530's.
-
GX740, lol
-
Can you link me to one, I am having a hard time finding one on google.
-
What am i linking?
If you have a 725,
Open realtek pannel,
Select 5.1 from the drop down menu
Hover over the dots like i have to find Front speakers, Center/Sub and surround (Or side) speakers
Plug your 3 red, green and black cables (Or is it orange) into the ports, the ghost images in realtek should light up so you can correct your ordering off that.
The leads that come with the X540 should be 3.5 mm tripples? -
No, apparently I need to upgrade my graphics card driver. I have a Radeon 4850 and I go on the website and all I see is the ATI Catalyst Display Driver version 10.5 and I already installed that. If someone could send me a link to the latest driver for my graphics card that would be appreciated. Thanks.
-
10.5 is the latest available. Did you get it from the link in my previous post ?
-
I found and downloaded that myself but when I go into dxdiag it says my main driver date is 11/12/2008. Version 7.15
-
hi just a silly question-i supose but can you fit another ati4850 in crossfir mode to add some power to that laptop
-
You probably installed the desktop version. Use the one from my link.
No -
Ok, I now have the latest driver. Thanks.
-
hey everyone im back, im gonna order some more RAM. and i also got to tweak my system a lil more just cleaning it up and getting it to run a bit better. i moved all my games to an expresscard ssd, and it moves faster than my plain hdd. but the ssd (actual 2.5 in internal) i have now is quick too. i just didnt wanna spend too much on one now so i only bought a 128gb kingston. im loving ssds, but they are still a lil expensive. anywho i saw a few of you are looking at sound quality from outputs? well im gonna say that the HDMI out is the best bet as far as quality goes, and then i just run things to my plasma from my home theater receiver. i would have to say that external sound cards are more like sorfware that tunes that EQ's the output to play best from your specific source. but this laptop can handle full range signals quite well. and can most certanly run a 7.1 setup with ease
-
Hey xataxx. I know you said you were updating the drivers, and mentioned that you were only in need of the ATI vid drivers, but are you sure you got everything up to date? When I upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate, I actually missed the driver for the card reader. Had a "DUH" moment when I stuck a card in and it didn't work.
Oh, and I went to Intel's site to grab the latest chipset stuff too.
Just a thought. -
Welcome.
Anybody else get these when running the HQ USB Flash thingy ?

Have you got the newest BIOS?
-
Yep running on 1.11
-
Any noticeable improvements?
-
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
so wait, this means we have a windows flash utility or what?
-
None at all.
That thing makes your USB stick bootable for BIOS/VBIOS & Firmware flashing. Can even run memtest through it etc.
Great little tool. -

GUYS GO INCREASE THE MULTI OF YOUR Q9200:

Tried the previos trottlestop but in vain. Downloading now
-

This one is new, didn't have that feature before.
Let us know how it goes
-
Same as before , I'm starting to doubt the so called unlock multi on these chip.
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
What happened?
No right click?
If so, open the ThrottleStop.ini file and add at the end:
Because since you have an ES CPU it might not have been recognized as extreme in throttlestop.Code:Extreme=1
-
Ok i missed the right click part
no new option .. but it does show that i have an "extreme" CPU upon startup.

Can you try adding the code I suggested, it gives me the new "unlock max FID/VID" option even though I dont have an extreme CPU.
Please try it
-
Mine stays the same after adding the code. You have a barebone right ?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
No, I have the GT627 and am using the OEM BIOS not the barebones.
I am using a different version of throttlestop though, try this one:
Download ThrottleStop.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way
Also make sure you save and re-load throttlestop. -

We should all try this with q9000! lolol, good luck fellas
.
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
ha, I wish it would work with all CPUs, not just the ones with an unlocked multi
Still I have some hope that unclewebb might figure out how to unlock the multi of C2D CPUs. -
If he can do C2D then surely he can do C2Q, since there basically the same thing (I think.)
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
But he didn't do it to a C2D, so far throttlestop can only change the multi of extreme CPUs.
His thread title is a little missleading.
With my SP9400, if I use throttlestop to "unlock" the FID it does nothing.
The new feature acts similar to a BIOS option to change the multi... -
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
WOOT, great work man!!!!
Now if only I had an extreme CPU

You can increase the voltage right?
And the FSB, any chance of going higher? -
Yes voltages can be increased. No , have to use setfsb for that unless i'm missing something ?
The best thing about that tool is , you can exit it and the values you have set will remain same
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
You dont have a turbo button?
I thought maybe turbo + throttlestop...
BTW, if you add the line:
Into ThrottleStop.ini, throttlestop will read the correct voltage for your CPU.Code:MobileCPU=1
-
Oh yeah ! I forgot about that useless thing
Max FSB with turbo is 1106.5mhz from 1064.0mhz. -
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
3.6ghz, I wonder what kind of vantage?
-
More than 3G the heat is a big problem......Vcore should also be increased to stay stable...
-
I only have a key , downloading will take a while with my "ultra fast" connection
Not when it comes to my bottom cover
Anyway , still got your Q9200 ?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Don't worry about it, we all know 3.6ghz pwnes, don't need vantage to figure that out lol
-
Why does CPU-Z say I have four memory slots? I wish I did, I'd love 16GB of RAM, but I know it's not true.
Also wish I could overclock my Q9000 decently.
-
Yeah
Now the greedy part , would have been nice if we can change FSB using that tool
Especially for us MSI users .. so we can ditch those retarded barebone bios.
What you reckon ? Go ahead with the request ?
We only have 2 slots and can easily be upgraded to 8Gb.
Have you tried the tool in MH's link (worth a try)? You can also use a retarded bios(barebone) and setfsb
