Hello all, I am a fellow GT725 owner and I was wondering if any of you guys knew how to control the fan speed. My GPU is idling around 65C when it's not oc'd and under full load it hangs out in the high 80s. That's WAY to hot right without OCing at all, right? Let me know if you have any suggestions, thanks for your time. :D

unfortunately there is no manual control available for the gt725, unless you do a hardware mod to control the speed yourself.

Right, I was afraid of that. So, any suggestions as to how I can lower my temps then? I've cleaned it recently, and it's always on a hard surface, so there couldn't be too much dust. But 88-90 is way too hot for no OC, right?

Firstly, I can run this game at full settings without any lag (except from my internet grr!) so there is definitely something wrong. Secondly, 8.10 is not the latest ati driver. See here for the latest (which I believe is 10.8) ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

Also, check your power settings are set to 'High Performance' and go into ATI Catalyst Control Centre > PowerPlay > check that when it is Plugged In it is set to 'Maximise Performance'.

Thats all I can think of for now (its early in the morning), hope it helps.

Do you have a dual or quad? Bad Company shouldnt run that bad so worth resetting its config, and reinstalling your drivers, but Bad Company does run noticeably better with a dual core so that could also be coming into it.

@Requiem - if thats under load, then although its on the high side, not impossible, the 4 series cards could run a bit toasty sometimes.

are the standard windows 7 drivers for my precessor okay? the driver date is like 2006 but ive never found newer ones on the intel site.. is it because I am on 32 bit windows?

I have the default bios is there a certain bios I need to try for any performance issues?

    im open to all suggestions

Yep, its because you're on 32bit Windows. Swap to 64bit and you'll be able to use it all.

when i go to install windows 7 64 bit it installs fine but it will never boot... the computer came with vista 32 i wonder why not 64... what is the trick to getting it to boot with windows 7 x64? I think I remember something about a 4gig usb stick I don't have one and don't plan on buying one really unless it's that important. I am not sure why it completely installs 100 perfect fine then it reboots and hangs

Have you done a full reformat of the HDD, rather than an upgrade/install over the top? Also do a BIOS reset just incase (a BIOS update may also help, but I dont have a GT725 to be able to confirm BIOS revisions).

There shouldn't be a 'trick' to getting x64 to work, if you hardware and drivers are ok/supported, you should be good to go unless theres something else hardware/software that's causing the issue; I've been using 64 for years now since Vista first came out, and providing I could get drivers, it's never caused my any issues.

If you're going blank, either you may have old Windows remnants causing issues, or some other issue, which may well be hardware related.

i am infact doing a clean install I might try it again tonight. The bios is currently default. If it has that much of a effect on performance I would like to figure it out because of how bad it runs bf2 mainly.

I really don't understand what is going on... I have been working on this for hours and havent gotten anywhere really... windows7 32 bit installs and works fine. windows 7 64 bit installs fine reboots continues the install then it makes me enter a pc name and all that junk and it does the final reboot where you would normally be into windows but it hangs on the windows 7 logo screen. Does anyone have any suggestions? i tried the usb install and it didnt change anything which i dont see how it would really...

do I need to list more info?
the p8600 proccesor says its 64bit ready and I guess that is why it only uses 3 gigs of the 4gigs of ram in 32bit?

I really am lost on this one I stayed up till 3 am trying to fix it. I open to any help or suggestions! thanks!

Im not really sure whats going wrong for you, can you get in by Safe mode in which case it could be a driver, but yes, that is definately why you can only use 3GB as that is a limitation of 32bit OS.

Check to see if you can find any updated BIOS just incase, someone else who actually has the system might be able to help.

There's also the possibility you actually have a fault in your system, and it is unstable when running 64bit extended code.

Actually I believe it is a bios setting before you to thinking your machine is defective, try going into the bios settings and looking for ahci mode for your hard drive, basically something that I remember being of concern for certain os'es is AHCI or advanced host controller interface, which is as the name implies a better way for your computer to communicate with the hard drives or any other data devices in your machine. That's your starting point because ahci I believe has an impact on x64. Also do you have external devices connected? Get rid of em for now, since that part of the install is trying to activate devices

    See if anything here helps:
Laptop hangs up at Classpnp.sys file.

Its specifically a thread with some info and links, entirely about hanging at classpnp.sys

Disable all unnecessary devices and disconnect any external peripherals right now though. If its hanging with a file involved in PNP, it could mean its crashing or slowing WAY down trying to detect/set something up.

Okay, I've had this thing for a little bit over a year now, and I'm pretty sure that there's a loose connection somewhere on this laptop. Like some others who posted here before, I get random visual artifacts on my laptop's screen which is easily replicated when it's connected to an external monitor. MSI told me that it was most likely a driver issue which is impossible since these artifacts carry over to the POST screen sometimes. I wasn't going to follow their advice and reset everything back to factory settings (especially since I contacted them right before my warranty was about to expire anyway), so I decided it was either a defective GPU (which it definitely isn't since I can run Starcraft II on ultra settings on this stupid thing for an hour or two without it spazzing out on me either because of bad RAM or it overheating) or somehow something's gotten loose in the motherboard.

Long story short, my laptop now randomly displays artifacts like I'm seeing my video card either overheating or developing multiple sclerosis in its RAM if the thing's positioned at any angle besides 0 degrees. Heck, even letting the sound play through the onboard speakers presents a very small probability that it'll start malfunctioning on me.

So any suggestions as to what's wrong with this thing? I already reseated the GPU and the LCD connectors. What's interesting to note is that the bottom of the GPU card had some rusted hollow tubing with broken bits stuck onto the bottom end of the thermal... cushion (I'm guessing the person who repaired the faulty USB port at MSI's service center didn't do a good cleanup job since there was no way for me to stick something like that in there completely on accident through the small narrow panel vents that go into the motherboard, let alone somehow lodging itself where I found it)? I was able to get the solid piece out, but the small rusted bits were embedded onto the cushion and there was no way I was going to scrape pieces of this stuff off because it helped keep the GPU secure. However, I did discover that the thing breaks apart and reforms easily so I just pushed the rusted bits as deep as I could into the thermal cushioning.

I'd say you may have bit of a shoddy card mate due to poor thermal past/pad placement as you are describing you have rusted thermal cushoning, can you send it in?

BTW, rusted hollow tubing? as in metal? if that was touching the gpu and conducting, man oh man, thats baaaaad.

    Hey Gents,

I have been following this thread for sometime. I just sent my lappy in for a new GPU after seeing pink lines up and down most any white screen. I would usually then begin to black out on me while playing. So off it went to MSI RMA land. I have been searching the thread and can't seem to find, or just missing it, the post about upgrading the processor to a Core 2 QUAD Qx9200? I am going to squirt some AS5 down. Any other upgrades I should consider? (Birthday $$) I am considering upgrading to Win7, and bumping the RAM as well. Maybe I will talk the old lady into buying that "GUS" for xmas!?? I primarily use my Lappy as my mobile gaming and posting device.

Thanks Mates for a great thread! I look forward to joining the ranks!

    Take care!

Since the owning and use of the q9200 is apparently illegal we can't discuss it specifically, however if you were looking at putting a "quadcore" in your machine, you will need to use 1.0S for your bios, as that will give your board support for ALL quadcores, and allow you the freedom to overclock your said processor using the E button. Best of luck to you with your choice of quaddies, a 2.4 Ghz quadcore, definitely boosts performance in BC2 from my origional q9000.

Hey, I've got minor but annoying issues here... would have sworn that the volume mixer had a slider control for the headphone jack. Also, while I seem to be getting sound from all the speakers, the only sound played back while running the Realtek configure test is from the two main speakers.

that is against the rules to discuss unfortunately man, but use your Imagination, look for websites that sell things, that's as far as I can go into the grey area.

As for the sound problem, I suggest getting DriverSweeper / Drivercleaner, removing realtek completely, and getting the latest version from either the realtek website, or from the msi notebook website, from that point you should be able to change the settings and have one or the other operate.

As for the sound check bear in mind this laptop does not have TRUE quadrophonic sound, It is actually dual stereo, with a sub somehow patched into that. A cheap way to produce more sound, and get better ranges. So ensure you have your speakers set to 2 when you are using the laptop speakers.

Hey there. I would recommend Corsair 8 GIG (2 4 GIG) ram and upping your GT 725 to QX 9300 Quad Core 2.53 Processor. Then if you are really feeling like a spender get the Seagate 500 GIG XT Hybrid Drive, and of Course WIN 7 64 Bit Pro/Ultimate. It flies !!! , worth every penny for me.

So I gots my laptop back from RMA land and after getting it back to some sort of normalcy after they raped it and returned it to OEM, I am noticing that my internet is horribly slow! I mean that the browser (CHROME or IE8) and they just sit there for like 5-15 seconds before actually opening the home page (GOOGLE)! Before it was raped it would blink right on.....any ideas what may have happened? I have updated the drivers, which you think they would have done... I use copytrans suite for my iPod because I despise iTunes, and after installing it, it is required to connect to the internet to update itself initially, but it cannot connect, I have disabled with windows firewall, disabled my virus software (AVG) and still notta...so something is screwy!
Thanks for any help!! I haven't installed my games yet, hope this doesn't affect them as well...what a PIA!

Well, when was the last time you cleaned out the dust bunnies? Are you using thermal paste or a pad? Maybe it needs a redo. Is there plenty of open space around all vents?

On another note, I ordered an INTEL 6300 AGN to replace my 5100. My speed seems to stay at 150Mbps, although it has hit 300Mbps, it won't stay there.

6300s are impressive cards, I think their "virtual switch" function is actually quite a neat idea, traditional ad-hoc with a twist. Regardless, I had excellent performance with no complaints running full N connected to an at least T-1 connection. The fastest I've gotten was 1.5-7 mbps, on a steady download speed. (back when I was downloading MW2)

ah well, seems like the drive on my GT725/UK is finally packing up after nearly 2 years.

I've reformatted once already, and fixed some disk errors using chkdsk /r on Windows reboot, still keep getting a 'windows system failed to write essential file' IO error? assume this is disk related, and then BSOD. Machine then fails to reboot till I switch on and off. Sometimes I get a successful boot which lasts for an hour or so, then BSOD.

It think it's a 2.5 Fujitsu drive, I've seen a 640 gig Samsung drive which looks like a similar spec so might try it for only £55.00!

Well, its been a long time since I was last here.
That was, well because my laptop was in MSI RMA for exactly 56 days.
So, today I finally recieved my laptop, and yes I feel lucky cuz my 1 and half-year laptop recieved a "new" mobo and gfx card :)

And a very BIG acknowledgement to Jack, who from the starting was telling me that it was a gfx card problem and I like an idiot went on to ignore that, play with sw and finally total my laptop to a condition where it won't even POST.

So to all those whose warranty is over, GO Ahead experiment with this laptop if it gets totaled then buy a new one anyways ;)
And those who still have a few months warranty left : Go Ahead and total it now, so you can get the most parts replaced :p :p

My machine seems to be running pro (Y), no problems at all, its just sat under my tv most the time running off HDMI and fueling my shelve speakers, although i've been trying 5.1 and 7.1 analogue mix's lately,

Wana redo my thermal paste/pads though to be honest, can't trust advent after a while, had some occasionally crashes, looks like memory artifact before it shuts down, but i haven't been heavy gaming lately so hopefully its good (Y).

Just to share my experience - since I got it, I was constantly confronted with performance glitches and slow downs during gaming (hugely disappointing). I had try all - Vista 32bit, Vista64bit, XP 32/64, 7 32bit (64bit is not supported, at least I couldn't find the drivers for it). Presently running 7 32bit.... all with same problem - slowing down during gaming that was looking like Overheating...

Hot to Fix ATI HD 4850 Mobile Performance issues

Resolution: I found modded drivers 10.5 of catalyst from tweakforce.com (XG Mobile Cats 10.5 Win7/Vista). Go to Catalyst Control Center and go tweak ATI Overdrive section - I had to reduce the memory clock to 450 Mhz from the default 850. That seems to fix the problem, at the same time I was able to clock the GPU to 530 from the original 500 Mhz. Now I can enjoy my games at full HD with High details and even some multi sampling. (Dirt2 is running at 1920x1080 on Ultra-High profile with 2 x Multi Sampling average FPS is 30, good for playing and really beautiful, also COD MW2 is smooth and pretty)

I just upgraded to catalyst 10.10.

Now I'm having an issue where my GPU activity meter is at 0%. can anyone explain why this is so, maybe its a bug on the ccc or maybe there's nothing wrong.

    thanks

MSi website though may say win7 32-bit those are fully compatible for 64-bit(why waste 1GB of ram running 32-bit?)
Now, ATi fully supports Mobility Drivers directly so there is no need to mod them, just get the latest ones from AMD website.
    P.S: 10.10 are the latest.

Yeah, even I noticed that but if you drag that CCC around the desktop for a while then the meter starts to show the correct readings!

I've got the same problem with 10.10 drivers on w7 x64 :/ 0% activity and the clocks show full power even in power saving mode. I'm tired of this stupid system, I'm going back to xp x86 :D Unless there is a working solution for this problem. x86 was straight forward working, on x64 there are sooo many glitches with software :( I even lost over 200 pts in 3dmark06 :/ Went from 10800 to 10550 :/

Recently re-pasted my cpu and gpu with Diamond paste and the cpu dropped about 8C when idle and the gpu dropped down to about 5 when idle and 8 when on load. Definitely recommend it

What drivers do you use? I cant seem to get over 10600 points in 3dmark06 :/ And still have the problem with 100% memory clock on gpu not going to 30% in power saving mode. And the CPU doesn't do the Turbo Mode - it just uses turbo oc on high performance battery mode. There is no point in TurboButton for me its on 50% saving or 120% :/ Something is wrong with the powersave / high performance switch. Drivers? W7 x64 problem?

Firstly, what version of GT725 do you have? Dual core or Quad core?
Secondly, what Catalsyt version are you using?

I am on W7 x64 and have no problems whatsoever at the moment (touch wood! :p )

I'm on Catalyst 10.5 still as I see no reason to update for the time being.

GT725 Dual Core. I installed 10.10 catalyst as I saw some posts earlier that this is already supported by ati driver. I'l try to downgrade to 10.5 and see what happens. Maybe that will help with the clocks setting.

The Turbo Mode doesnt work on any drivers :/ I get 266x6 in power saving and 266x9.5 in high. The turbo should go to 333x9 if i remember correctly :/
After second change of drivers and another bios reset (maybe the order had something to do with it?) I finally got 3Ghz @ 310x9.5 but still the Turbo button is useles as 3Ghz is at High Performance mode from start, not 2.5Ghz as 100% cpu but already in turbo 120% :/

Another weird thing. After hibernating and waking up the cpu is back to 266x9.5 at high performance and doesnt go 3Ghz like it did couple hours ago. I dont know how other people managed to use w7 x64 but I'm testing it for one week now and there hasn't been any piece of software that just worked. Maybe I should go back to x86 as I have only 4gb of ram and dual core cpu and wait for quad and 8 gigs for x64 :/
