Yeah , tried this one last time around and it failed halfway through .. just after the display driver installation. Kinda weird ..
-
I have the SCM installed and it works. I managed to get the GPU clocks down to powersaving and CPU to go to turbo mode 3Ghz. But now I noticed another problem. The GPU does not OC - it shows it does in CCC but GPU-z and 3dmark score says diffrent :/ And the aspect ratio is f**ed up - I can't get full screen in any application other than full 1920x1200. Any other resolution is 16:9 or 4:3 with black stripes. Previously I had the full choice of 16:10 resolutions in games, now I dont :/ Even changing in desktop is not possible without black stripes. I'm guessing drivers problem? Damn Im sick of all the problems already :/
OK, new catalyst 10.11 fixed the Overdrive and power management of GPU problems. But still the 16:9 ratio is just getting on my nerve. I think that might be w7 problem, that it just dosn't suport 16:10 displays? I'm looking through windows forums now for the solution. -
is there any newer version of bios than A1722IG6.10S which catacylsm provides to overclock my cpu?

Check ccc for display scaling sometimes you have to tell your machine it's okay to stretch images. More importantly, if your monitor is 1920.x1200 why run apps in anything lower? Stretching makes stuff look nasty, don't worry so much about AA, higher res reduces the need for aa, so use 2x with native and chill
-
Or just edit the config files to get rid of the black stripes.
-
what config files?
-
My video card just died, I've found a replacement out of an Alienware M17. They're direct slot in yeah?
Cheers -
For the games that have those blacks bars .. most config files should be in "my documents" , open them with notepad and change the aspect ratio or resolution from there.
Yeah , should fit in. How much you getting it for ? -
Just chucked the guy a random offer didn't really have too much to go off, but he accepted it: $200US + post.
Guess we'll be able to see if the 1gb of video memory makes a difference after all
. Kidding

Should help in 1080p gaming eh, other then that performance should be similar but smoother/constant.

ahhahaha poor u

i get a black screen when i boot up. need help. its in suspended mode. how do i get out of it.

Lambo watch your temps closely, my card had an issue with not making concoct with the heatsink, I suggest getting thickish paste like diamond, and removing some of the shims/spacers to bring the heatsink closer, or even the thermal pads on the ram so the gpu gets a good contact. It's difficult but once you get it setup right your cards golden, btw do you have borderlands? I can almost run it on full settings in 1920x1200 but shadows drag fps down into unplayable chokes here and there, especially in canyons.

I don't understand, did you tell it to hibernate and now cant get into windows?
-
no, it was in suspend mode but i just got out of it. however, the screen is extremely dark but i can see the log in menu. i was able to log in and do a reboot. however the screen is still dark but windows is still visable. i logged back in and checked the brightest and it was on 100%.
i'm having problem seeing windows due low visablity. i hope that was all understandable, thanks. -
Possible LCD power inverter failure or back-light failure.
-
i'm starting to believe that could be the reason. i was able to do a system restore point but the same problem still. unless there could some other issue causing this problem. i'll do some trail and errors.

Shouldn't make a massive difference, will prevent stuff from juddering and stalling a lot if you're playing things like Stalker Complete Mod which breaks the 512MB texture memory barrier pretty badly if you're playing at 1920x1080.
Hope it works out for you

anyone know where i can find an lcd inverter for this model?
-
I believe RK Computers has them Try ebay as well I sold one there this year.

Hi Guys.
LONG time since i've been on here.
Just been thinking about an SSD for my GT725. I think a few people have done it here right?? Any suggestions for a good SSD? Was it really worth doing?
Is it possible to do a mini pcie one or is it best to just go for a 2.5" hdd replacement?
Cheers -
which are the best ram for our laptop and max overclocked mhz of it?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
If the notebook has DDR2 ram, the best you will probably find would be 800mhz Cas 4 ram.
I saw some hynix ram like that on ebay.
1 guy said he found some 1066mhz DDR2, but the store he got it from did not have it for sale when I checked.
Anyway if you have ram settings in the bios, 800mhz ram (cas 4) could be set to run with a cas of 6, that would let you overclock pretty far. -
hello and thanks for the replay. i have gt725 ddr2 800mhz with quad core. with the original bios i had the chance to change the cas but now i cant because i chnaged bios to be able to overclock my cpu. is there any program which let me change the cas of my ram?
btw are you saying that lowering cas which will lower my ram mhz will allow me to overclock my cpu more without burning my ram chips ? -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
No, you want to increase the cas and at the same time lower the frequency of the ram.
Thaiphoon burner could flash your rams SPD (if it's not write protected).
Check their website for tips. -
Hey guys, haven't been on here in ages! Just got a 60GB SSD and was wondering if this Order-Bulk will enable me to swap out my Blu-Ray drive? I seem to remember someone talking about it ages ago but can't find the page.
Happy New Year guys
Blazin -
Happy new year to you too
Guess what , i was looking at this thing yesterday
as thanks to steam sales , i only have 10GB left on my games partition...
I have two choices , 1 you just posted and the one from newmod , which is more expensive but with swappable front. -
Yeh I saw that one aswell! I really want to get it from a UK seller though so I can have it within the next couple days (itching to get it all set up!) but can't find anywhere else. Had a look on ebay but the ones in the UK are mostly brand specific ones, like Dell and Toshiba, and i'm not sure if they have special clips for hotswapping etc.

I watched my temps like a hawk, was always between 50 and 55 right up until the day it started playing up. Hardly ever used it for games, hell, I hadn't played a game on it in 6-9 months leading up to it.
The deal fell though though so I'm looking for one again. The member was banned and the paypal transaction was mysteriously refunded. So before I sent payment again I decided to pm a moderator and see what was going on. Glad I did, I didn't get told what was going on but I was told 'All I can say is I would strongly recommend against dealing with this ex-member.'
So I left it...
I never play games so I'm not too fussed, I just want the laptop working again but with a decent video card again on the off chance I do decide to play games again...
Thanks for the kind words though -
if i understand right are you looking for bluray dvd rom for your msi laptops? beacuse i have one and never use it !
am still complicated how to overclock my cpu without burning my ram chips -
No I am looking for a hard drive caddy to replace the Blu-Ray drive currently in there. This will allow me to install windows on my Solid State Drive and then have my music and games etc on the original Hard Drive.
Regarding overclocking, which bios do you have?
Blazin -
Lenarass , been asking the same crap for years remember ?
Regarding the caddy , i might give the cheap UK one a go. -
Haha yes I do remember! Thought that grammar looked familiar
I've just ordered the one from America so will see in a few days when it arrives and it will upload some pics.

my bios is V1.0s. I overclock my cpu using setfsb from 2.0 to 2.2ghz and ram from 800 to 880mhz, i save the settings and after i restart the clocks go back to stock . why is this happening ?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
You should make a batch file or use task scheduler to get setfsb to overclock automatically at startup.
There are command line options in the setfsb readme file. -
When you restart it gets reset so that if you have it clocked to high and it BSODs you can then actually get into your computer. I OCed mine from 2.4 to 2.9ish stable, my ram was just over 1000mhz and it didnt crash at all! I don't really need it OCed though as I didn't notice the speed increase (except in 3dMark06)

Thats not a bad idea, I've just been to lazy to do it, still haven't done the mod to oc my processor/ram, keep reformatting...
In other news, especially regarding the steam sales, I thankfully went ahead and tried my luck ordering to of the 1TB Samsung 2.5 in drives from Newegg when they were $80 A piece, and luckily, it fit! perfectly I might add. The hard drive bracket needs to be modified so its more of a placeholder and not mounted directly to the actual drive, which I did anyways a long time ago to reduce the chance of stress on the SATA connector. Performance is quite good compared to the terrible 500gb WD Blue I had origionally put in there. -
do you have the stock transcend rams and you went over 1000mhz ?
repted but i cant find good info in readme. how can i make my o/c permanent ? -
how to make my o/c permanent using setfsp? i will rep
-
Hey fellow GT725 owners. Don't suppose anybody in europe has had their screen hinges repaired by compuspar under warranty before? If so, how long approx did it / should it take?
-
They replaced the internal fan of my GT627 in about 4 days, it was in the center they have in Barcelona (4 days since they picked it up until the laptop was at home again)
-
Thanks for the info! Repair sounds much quicker than I expected it to be.
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
You can't really make it permanent with setfsb, all you can do is make setfsb run automatically after startup.
If you want a permanent OC, you can try a PLL pinmod. -
how to make setfsb run automatically ?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate

repted !
but how can i use Thaiphoon ? i open it and it cant read my rams specs. i dont know how to use this program. is there another program that let me flash my rams with high cas ? my new bios let me change all my rams timings BUT i cant overclock my cpu :S -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
You could head over to the MSI forum and ask svet for a bios mod.
SPDtool is another program that will flash the SPD. -
cool spdtool is working but what exactly should i change?
repted again -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
If you have DDR2 ram, open SPDtool, File > Read > Module X, then change "CAS Latencies Supported" from "4, 5, 6" to "6". You should probably also change "SDRAM Cycle time at Maximum Supported CAS Latency" to 333mhz.
Then just fix the checksum (under the Edit menu) and write the SPD.
That should get you 333mhz (667mhz effective) CAS 6, then use memset in windows to change the rest of the timings.
6-7-7-21 or 6-8-8-24 should be really good.
