Ridiculous, partition magic is only for xp/2000. Not for vista. Any other way?

To get rid of the secondary data drive (I think it was G on mine) and enlarge C: all you need is Vista's built in partition service. Start by completely unallocating G:, then and only then will you have the option to extend the C: volume. Do that and use all the extra space and you're done. It takes all of 10 seconds.
It's under Control Panel>System and Maintenance>Administrative Tools -
Couple of things:
Windows 7 has somewhat higher performance for just about every conceivable application than Vista does, so it should be considered.
That brunorc or W-TF his name is, is very annoying.
Ubuntu 9.04 has updated radeon drivers that are reported to work fine with the GUI install disks, so no need fo rmy q&d install instructions for 8.10 any longer.
There appear to be newer official drivers on the GT725 official (global) pages, but I haven't checked them yet. Not even downloaded, maybe later tonight. (newer April date, the old ones were December IIRC) -
Does anyone know the contrast ratio of MSI GT725's WUXGA screen?
-
new BIOS (T) for the GT725 but... whata hell is:
"Description........Update Marketing name."
MSI is now called Asus?
Oh man MSI!
@ MSI
We need full description/changelogs!!!!
I can determine, for this moment, no changes. -
MSI IS DOWN FOR ME ?!?!? AAHHH
What, i dont want MSI to be ASUS :s:s:s -
Well I just got my good ol gt725 (the 2.5ghz version). Downloaded like 3 different copies of vista home premium 32 and 64 bit, tried the key at bottom of laptop and none of them works. So I'm just using win7 now.
Thing is, when I used turbo in my previous install (i formatted since then) either my display drivers or the turbo was kicking my computer's butt and I'd be blue screening or restarting out of nowhere. Any of you guys have any insight on win7 turboing? (And what's up with the vista key not working?) -

Does anyone know when this unit will be released?

Funny thing is, I downloaded a OEM 32 bit (untouched supposedly) vista home premium and even that didn't work with the key supplied. Very odd indeed. *runs fingers down long white beard that I don't have*
-
@ zergslayer69
Do not enter the key during the install of Windows!
Continue the install without a key (also no tick @ "acvtivate Windows online...")
After the Install update Windows online with all the necessary patches.
Install and reboot...
...only then enter the key
The Key also works perfectly for Vista x64. -
check the SHA1 key of the untouched 32bit vista with sp1 .iso , must be
SHA1: BCD715A02739809E477C726AE4B5CAA914156429
you can use any free SHA1 utility -
I just got my new GT725, it has the higher res and Quad Core.
So far I'm really impressed. I'm playing Fallout 3 at maximum 1920 res all effects at highest settings, and there's little if any slow down. I'm picking up a lot of nice effects I wasn't seeing on my older desktop like heat effects, dust motes, and small details which really bring the game alive. Seeing character animation running at plus 30 frames at this rez is very impressive.
On the down side, I don't like the way the power connector hangs in the back. The pin and socket feel a bit loose and frail. This could be a problem in the long term. Also why has Drive C: only got 50 gig allocated? I'd already installed my Steam account before I noticed. On the whole very impressive, and for the price it's incredible value, and far more power than I've been used to in the past.
A definate 9/10

Q9000?....
Jo!
Use acronis disk director or get over it!
I think the orig. partition really okay. -
Guys the tilde key is nt working in games.
I cant bring the console down in Fallout 3 -
Ok thanks for the tip. Yeah sorry 2 core Quad or whatever it is
The power lead is a concern. I find when it's on your lap, you can't pass the power cable across the protruding 9 cell battery, since it makes it feel even less secure (the protruding cell and insecure pin conspire to make a bigger design problem. A real flaw as far as I can see, and one which should have been avoided) which means using a mains socket to your right hand side, which isn't always practical, especially if you dont want the lead wrapping round your legs!
Oh well, still very impressed on the whole. -
Ok for me
-
Wouldn't suggest putting it on your lap without a board, because the main intake is underneath the laptop.
Also i do share the same concern however i dont mind the lead on the right hand side of the laptop because the vents blow the air out (so it does warm the plug but not to a rediculous level, especially when not gaming. -
did you do a custom install when you where installing the game? That happened to me in crysis. When i did a custom imstall i cant access the comsole. When i reinstalled not custom, i could access the console
-
This is **** stupidity.
I dont want to install games in C drive. -
So do any of you guys run windows 7 AND turbo the cpu without crashing/bsod? If so, are you using stock windows drivers or did you download special ones?
-
Remap the keys silicon, its pretty much doable in any game.
It shouldn't require any specifics, oh and if your game is also not having it then you could try,
Copy and paste a shortcut on your desktop, right click properties, where it says shortcut match it to my blah blah thing below, but where blah blah is its your shortcut, and just add -console to the end of the shortcut.
put "c\blahblah\blahaba\fallout_3.exe" -console
That enables consoles in most major games for me.
Hope this helps.

Hi Folks,
I'm having a couple of problems with my 725 and hopefully someone here can help.
a) I love games but I'm not totally computer literate
b) my "wireless network adaptor" seems to be having lots of problems, often needing to be repaired/ restart the computer before I can connect to my wireless network. Occasionally I get limited connectivity as an error message
c) I occasionally get a completly black screen on start up that only goes away after I press and hold the power button to restart the machine a couple of times. I think this may be related to pressing the power button to put it into sleep mode when the screen saver is running (the colurful ribbon one if you must know!) but I'm not 100% on that. It does seem to happen if I shut down by closing the lid.
These are both not insurmountable problems, but they are a bit annoying and also it makes my wife hate my new laptop, which is a pain as I keep trying to convince her it's not just for games. "Honestly love, the red colour will grow on you and all the blue flashing lights show that it's working properly. It really is a good value for money machine, here look at how light it is and it does have a three hour battery life..." Her response: "I still hate it, why couldn't we just get a net book?"
I'd really appreciate any help, and if you do have some help to give, please assume very little knowledge on my part which will save me asking "when you say: do this, how the &^%£ do I actually do that..."
Cheers,
D. -
b) I had this problem with another laptop, and changing the security settings on my wireless network helped greatly. If you have a password on your wireless router, try changing the type of encryption it uses. (WEP to WPA or whatever).
As for my new GT725, I've had zero drops.
My wife feels the same way about the color. Luckily, I did get her a netbook for her bday and she LOVES it, so it's not a big deal to her. -
I laughed reading this, not at you my friend, just at your missus.
The wireless is N rated so it may be a problem between this and your G/N rated router. I have a D-Link N Router and have not had one problem, and the signal is passing through a ceiling and closed door, so it's probably your router configuration, strength of your wireless hub, or proximity.
I've always had problems with laptops, when I close the lid on standby. I think it may be a Windows problem, although I seem to get this more often with XP then I did with Vista. I usually just put the machine in stand by, make sure the unit is shut down, and then close the lid. This dosn't cause any problems.
Regarding your misses, I bought mine an Acer One, for £160 from Currys Digital. It was a shop demo, so I got £40.00 off. She loves it, so this cleared a straight path for me buying the MSI
. A long term stratagy you see.
You have to think these things through, so I costed the price of my notebook against her Netbook. We both sit there in the evenings, me playing Fallout, and her browsing handbag sites and visiting Money Saving Expert and Facebook
Result!

Dug through the thread a bit, but no luck:
Quad Core GT725 is hotter than Core 2 Dual, if only slightly, if noticable, at all?
What can it overlock to? The quad core, from 2.0ghz to...? -
I've heard the q9000 can be clocked to 2.5GHz with set FSB.
The cooling though, you may want to upgrade that hehe. -
Ah, I was more wondering about the built in overclock though. I'm not one to fiddle much. I also have the Antec 200 cooler in mind already, so will be purchasing that alongside this laptop if I conclude on it...
-
I also am wondering why all the space is on the D drive, rather than C. i just noticed this, after installing some games....they were installed on the C drive, like most of my other computers. Hmmm....is there a way to just take gigs from the D drive and switch them over to the C drive? Or maybe I'll just try to pay more attention from now on and make sure they install onto the D drive instead!
I wonder can I just switch the drive letters???? -
I *WAS* thinking of looking at the MSI Eclipse X58 board, but their mb BIOS realease "notes" aren't much better than the above. It's almost like they have a room full of monkeys banging away at the BIOS then releasethe next one that "works", but no one knows why...
Tried the "VGA drivers" on the site? They have a newer dating as well, along with the absence of any sort of changelog or other useful info other than a dating change.
MSI REALLY need to get their sh-t together with changelogs.
Games & consoles:
MOST game you have to ENABLE access to the console in a config file. IIRC Oblivious was like that so I'd assume that "Fallout" 3 (Oblivious with teh BFG) would be the same. [EDIT] oops forgot about nast infrared thing... [/EDIT] -
Mate, feck all to do with your lappy, had the same problem in Fallout 3 and other games that use the key. Go to Device Manager, expand Human Interface Devices and uninstall Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver. Will sort the problem out instantly. Have to uninstall the fecker each time you start lappy though if you want to use the key. Stupid little problem with Vista.
-
what is Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiverand and its purpose?
-
Hi, I may have to return my GT725-087 due to various issues, how much better if any is the quad core 210 version??
-
Might be for their media center thingy IF you have a remote control AND/OR the TV tuner....

In case anyone is looking for more GTA IV benchmarks, here's what I got on high textures (I had to run in norestrictions mode to set it, but have had no problems yet in game). Gameplay looks and feels good so far, but I haven't run into rain or heavy chases/firefights yet. I'm in 20% turbo and 550/900

What issues are you having?
The quad version wont really change anything to be honest but prehaps we can help fix the issues. -
Here's the story, I bought it from Scan - had a screen problem (bleeding) so sent it off to MSI who repaired (took weeks) during the repair I became bored and annoyed and told scan when it came back I want my money back to which they said "find, talk to us when it gets back" so....its back now and I cant decide if its worth taking back and getting the quad core from else where!! The problem is I do game but I also use photoshop and encode occasionally so not sure which is best for me!
-
Aha, just one of them things, dam screen bleed
they have to address this, what about using a monitor as a temporary solution until you can get in contact with scan?
Games - at present the duo core will benefit more from higher clocks because the majority of games are single coded enviroment.
Photoshop - takes into account multicore so well worth the quads.
These are fantastic machines if you can get one that properly works, and try refund from scan and buy somewhere else? -
When I first got my gt725, there was HUGE screen bleed. Same for a lot of my older pc laptops. The best way is to just use your computer. The bleed starts to go away eventually. I don't think any laptop screen starts off perfect (except maybe macbook pro ones, but if I remember even those had some slight bleed, but I don't notice any oddities on my 17" mbp anymore as of now).
-
Hehe, i've had all my laptops with perfect lighting so far so hopefully i can kep that up, yeah i think it should dissapear after a while, its just the wait and the bleed that bothers you in the mean while, try turn brightness down a notch? And compensate a bit with contrast.
-
are you guys sure that the LCD bleed will go away? im hesitating to buy it coz of that bleed and f does go away then i will get it, this would really help me decide
LCD bleeding goes away or not? -
It bleeds itself away after use. No pun intended, but since I mentioned that, pun IS intended now. So yes, it does go away. Does it go away 100%? Prob not, but after a week of regular use if you're still noticing it, you might want to ask yourself, do you notice it? Or are you looking for it?
-
^^
What grashoppa said.
I dont think its all models that have the bleed either, only a few.
But if you are really picky, them dont take chances hehe. -
hehe not really that picky, i can live with the bleed once i get the annoyed feeling out of my system but if it does decrease with use even not to a perfect bleedless LCD im fine with that
some models huh? im thinking getting it from newegg, the 212 version, most of the bleeds ive seen and read are from the 074 version, il just cross my fingers and hope for the best since the sager np5797 is way out of my jobless reach hehe
i guess the 725 will last me for a good 4 years(until i can afford a $2k rig like the np5797) hell my P4 478 desktop lasted me 7 years and i think i deserve a change -
Spiral Architect Notebook Consultant
Where did you buy it from?
Question: Is the wireless card upgradeable without voiding the warranty? -
Does anyone know the gt725-210uk laptop works with empire total war because a load of other pcs have problems running it?
-
I have this model and play Total War at max settings 1920x1200. Make sure your ATI settings are set to let application determine 3D settings in AA and so on, otherwise you get screen flicker.
Otherwise this machine is top notch.
I compared my MSI to a big Dell XPS a friend of mine bought 3 months ago for 2200 quid. The Dell is twice the price, twice the weight nearly twice as thick in depth and is about 1000 points lower in 3D Mark 06.
He is very jelous of my 210 and wishes he'd waited a month or two and bought one.
I bought mine from Laptops Direct for a little less than many other places who offer a screen and pixel check service before it goes out. Well worth the extra £30.00!
You just can't go wrong for the money, and it arrived just three days after I ordered it and had it checked over. -
Well, I nearly bought Advent's 6555 for £999 in Feb, same laptop as yours, but with 1440x900 screen, I held back due to low screen res and design, something I'd gladly do again.
Then I pulled the trigger on a new M1730 in march for £300 less than you paid for your 210.
So your not the only one why had a bargain. Not to cause trouble, but you did literally pay hundreds of pounds of premium on that WUXGA screen, which incidentally seem to have quite serious bleed problem.
While M1730 is quite big, its full of bonuses. It has a far better screen, higher brightness+contrast ratio than that panel on 725; things like backlit keypad, is very comfortable to type on, as oppose to those cramped keypad like those on 6555.
Extra size also means it has a second hard drive slot; and extras like the gaming LCD. Also having Nvidia GPU also gives me the extras like phyx.
To clarify, I don't need a highly mobile laptop, but I'd like quality as well as performance. While M1730 weighs like a beast, it comes with quality to back it up.
As for 3Dmark06, I highly doubt you got higher stock than most of M1730 with 8800m Sli. If I remember correctly, 725 initially had trouble even breaking 10k. And to break that, you'll need to OC the CPU to 3Ghz, and to reach 12k, you needed to flash the card so the core can exceed 550mhz... just to say, if I spent as much money, I could have got an extra x9000, with which M1730 can get as much as 15k in 3dmark06. (overclockable to 3.4ghz)
Anyhow, 3dmark vantage would be a better indication of performance.
I don't mean to cause trouble, which I probably am; but my point is, you can always go wrong with any investment; and at nearly £1400, it is a risky investment. Especially considering that Novatech cleared their X90 for that price(Q9550+8800m Sli).
