Can the flashing LEDs be turned off?

 

You mean on M1730? or 725?

 

I meant the 725, but am curious about the super flashy M1730 as well.

 

725 has no flashy LEDs. Right now, the only lights on mine are a wireless indicator, power button, numlock indicator, a moon, and what I think is another wireless indicator. Nothing on the lid. That is why many of us prefer it... a little more subdued.

 

Regarding the post about the dell (sounds like he's talking about the 1730). I currently own and am using the gt725 with the 2.5ghz. I also just ordered the 1730 today from dell because they had this crazy deal starting yesterday I think. Something about having the SLI 9800gt for under 1k USD.

I ordered with the slowest cpu and will be buying the x9000 and overclocking it past 3ghz. If this performance isn't good enough for anybody, I dunno, maybe wait 2 more years before buying a computer?

In any case, regarding the battery life, size, weight, etc, they all blow compared to the gt725, by far. Weight is indeed twice as heavy overall when computer and adapter is combined. Battery life is 45 mins surfing the web only according to one user.

But then you have to ask yourself, what is it that you really want to do with your laptop? And how often and how long will you be on battery life? For me, backlit keyboards are necessary for me after tasting it on a macbook pro. And I totally dig the obnoxious disco lights on the laptop, and bundle it up with the super cheap price (expires on 20th according to someone) you can't say it costs that much even after upgrades.

 

Well, you'll be happy to know the LEDs can all be turned off. There are bio options, as well as Quickset app.

6-8hours gaming.
Then me and my rig both are tired, so off to bed.

Granted it does have PhysX the price has come down in the last few months, but if you look at the two machines against each other, which I did, the Dell just looks enormous, and hardly portable. The 3DMark on my friends Dell was struggling to get 10,000, but I think it has 8600M SLI. In any case I notice the 8700M SLI does have a good 3DMark score.

I think for the price, the GT725 as long as you get it pre-checked for screen bleed and dead pixels, you can't go wrong. As I say this all cost £1320 all in including delivery and VAT, and check over which for the spec is fantastic.

 

my avg for gaming seems to be about 2-3hrs a day. sometimes i hit 4 sometimes i just hit 1. But then again I work for a living.

 

Oh good. I like the less "I'M A GAMER!!!!" look as well, but read somewhere that there are flashing LEDs. Guess it was a ... lie.

 

Repost of earlier, the 725 with Q9000, if using the built in turbo/overclock, what does it go up to?

 

Why does it have to be portable? If I wanted something portable, I'd have got M860TU with 9800m GT from Novatech a few days ago for £685. But I dont need the mobility.

Only gpus that M1730 were sold with, is single 8700m GT, 8700m GT sli, or 8800m GTX sli. 8700m sli set up has trouble reaching 10k, as you said, and the real world performance is even worse. What I don't understand, is how your friend spent about £2600 on that set up, it doesn't add up.

PCworld did a M1730 offer with 8700m GT sli, it was the £799. Not that has any meaning, afterall, as long as your happy with your purchase, thats all that matters.

 

8700m GT has 32 stream shaders, being merely an overclocked version of the 8600m GT. (which had horrific failure record).

Even a single 8800m GTX has 96 shaders; basically pair of 8700ms will struggle to take on a single 8800m, while using about twice the power, you do the maths... I figure an hour?

The weight is an issue for me, since I'm used to sitting on the couch with it on my lap. The Dell isn't as practical in this respect.

The M860TU, only has a 15" screen no Blu Ray player, is very noisey and at the time I purchased the MSI was £850 plus?

Surely a good notebook should be lightweight. As far as I can see this is what future tech is all about portability and practical function against performance. The MSI covers this issue extremely well. Personally I like having a notebook I can use on my knee, without it over heating or consuming masses of power while still deliveing great gaming performance.

When I bought the MSI five weeks ago, it was and still does offer great portability, good performance and features at a very low cost.

I have reasarched this carefully and still conclude this is an excellant all round machine which definately satisfies everthing I'm looking for, since I'm an avid gamer.

 

With stock 8700m in sli, you can get one hour 45 mins; one and a half hour with 8800m GTX sli. If I undervolt the CPU, and do some tweaks, battery can reach about 2 hours. Not too bad.

Seems we use our laptop very differently, I use mine on a desk, like a desktop replacement, with no need to move it often. An internal bluray player costs about £50 anyway.

Everyone have different definition of A good laptop, mine is probably quality, and performance for value; yours is probably portability, as well as decent performance.

That said, 725 is smaller than 1730 granted, but its still less portable than most laptops.

Whoa quicklite, you can get almost 2 hours with undervolting? Someone said on the forums that the 1730 can only achieve 45 minutes (vs the msi's 2.5ish hours). And that was only browsing the web.

Well, by all means, 725 has 25w series CPU, one less hard drive, one less GPU, and a dimmer screen, with no Gaming LCD.

I'm not susprised that the battery can be that longer. Seriously...

But hay, if battery is so important, then MBP has 8 hour battery life, vs 2.5 on MSI. It has better display, and is lighter, thiner, stronger, slicker, as well as more portable, what do you say?

As for 45 mins, the battery capacity decreases as we speak, no one can change that.

Actually, I was more surprised you can get that much time out of yours. I wasn't complaining about how short it was, but more praising that it can be much longer than I expected.

And lol, I'm in the process of selling my macbook pro 17" unibody. Battery life is more like 6-7 hours realistically at half brightness doing nothing intensive. And the heat dissipation on the system sucks so much. I have to nearly max my fans whenever I play world of warcraft to the point that I had to send it in for repairs since it started grinding after a month or so.

 

Don't see myself getting a macbook anytime soon, despite the glowing reviews.

Its just too simple and touch overpriced imo.

 

As a computer, it's very solid. But other than that, I have more programs I use in windows, including games. Anyways enough comparison before I turn this thread into a mac vs pc thing.

 

hehe gona be cheaper than the 074 since its a lesser card with 130m, maybe sub $1k pricepoint

Your orig. Key works definitely also with 64bit!

BUT!

Don't enter the key during the install.
Continuing the install without a key input and unmarked the box "activate windows later online" (or something like that )

After the install make first all windows updates online.

Now you can normally enter the key here...

in fact i tryed the vista 64 version but did not like it that much so i switched to windows 7
i of corse did not bother bying a new copy of windows

i followed your advices on installing catalyst 9.5 but did not manage to...
in fact windows is installing the vga drivers alone when setting up.
any idea how to install catalyst 9.4 on windows 7?

It is Amazons fault, if they refund or credit money back to customers without receipts then thats on them, nothing wrong with that..

 

Just wait for the 9.5dna drivers//ccc. Painless installation. No need for driver cleaner and like that. Just uninstall from control panel then thats it, install 9.5 dna. My 9.4 from dna is been serving me well, no problems at all.

 

Right. Just like the guy who forgot his car keys inside the car. I mean, he must have left them there for you, right? It's not your fault for stealing his car, nothing wrong with that.

 

I'm not trying to be for or against it, but the car key analogy is a bit odd. If you bought the car and the keys were left inside with the doors locked, perhaps that'd be a better example of what's going on.

Actually scratch that, say you bought your car and on the list of parts that you specifically ordered, a nav was one of them. Upon getting your keys and going into your car, you realize you cannot turn the nav on. The only way to utilize that part was to shell out more money to get it activated.

I think that's a good analogy of what's going on.

Edit: And if this really was a scam, sham, wham, kazaam, then amazon would've changed their product description LONG ago. Pretty sure after 3 similar complaints they would've caught on. Either that or they've received over 10 complaints and issued refunds, but don't care enough or can afford the "loss" to leave the description unchanged.

But now I sound like I'm for it. But I'm just trying to elaborate on the previous poster's views....I think.

oh god now I'm pi**ed.

The Oc has stopped working, no turbodrive feature working or any of the the oter modes. Blue light dosn't even come on, and the Wireless Lan adapters has stopped working completely. Blue light comes on, on the strip but just donsn't enable in hardware.

I've had it two whole weeks. Guess it's got to go back. Hope this isn't a major design weekness?

 

i was told that windows 7 ultimate only works for 3 month and after this we need to download a new copy, format and reinstall the entire system

is it right? because if this is the case i will definitively go to a vista 64 bit version

No, although this seems a bit more serious. I did a complete system restore and reinstalled the supplied drivers, but no joy. It seems whatever is responsible for controlling the top strip has died

I phoned the supplier I purchased it from and initially they fobbed me off telling me to return it back to MSI! I maded a fuss so I'm now sorting out a collection and replacement.

Just hoping this isn't a weakness with the machine.

 

hey guys, i just downloaded CPU-Z and i noticed that my Q9000 (stock 2ghz) was only running at 2074mhz when in turbo mode and about 1600mhz when not in turbo.
I have tried going into the BIOS and changing the percentage overclock when the turbo button is pressed to 24% and 20% (it was originally on 16%) but there is no difference.
Is this a problem?

The black/silver edition is still available, but only for the quad core version which is almost 300 euros (!!) more expensive than the p9500 version:

However, the dual core version of the GT627 is available in black/silver for about 70 euros more than the regular black/red edition:

This was the case with Sena, another owner.
Anyways GT725 cant handle the heat if it was to be OC to even 16%.
For the price of Q9000 its better go for a T9600 or T9800.
