Hey nowhere, glad I could help (a little). When you think about it, there is actually 0 risk of something bad happening. MSI included 2 blank DVDs, right? Just use their burn recovery software to make a backup, install 64bit, get the new version of Catalyst drivers (I'll give you help installing them if you need), get the drivers for everything else of this site: http://forum.gt725.de/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=204. If it doesn't work, just use the recovery disks to bring it back to factory settings

Okay thanks lambo, im actually not computer illiterate but i've only owned 1 computer my entire life and have never messed around with installing or uninstalling my OS or tweaking drivers or anything like that so I probably come across that way. I'm downloading a Home Premium SP1 64 bit iso right now so hopefully by tomorrow it will be done and I can test this out. When I get this done I may have to take you up on that help installing the other drivers... Once again, thanks for your help!
-
I don't think you are computer illiterate, not many people at all outside this board know about driver modding, or even OS installs. I didn't either until about a year ago when I started to take an interest in it all.
-
Well, I just joined the club! Ordered mine today.
Might have to go back and read through the thread to find out all the information I will need to getting running nicely ^.^ (drivers/ocs/32 or 64bit vista/partitioning etc)
Waiting game starts now
lol I just read the last page about the gaming mouse, no need to ask that anymore!
Congrats btw wheels ^.^ -
two more of Cryostasis
I have my gpu overclocked at 550/900 now and 2,77 cpu without any problems at all. Btw my pc is not BSODing when I go to 2.9/3.1 it just freezes. Im honestly really assuming its BIOS problem at this point cause the odds that the one laptop I get is some how defective, and not going to work is slim to none. Now my inexperience in computing is probably more or less the culprit so I still really appreciate the help when it comes to fixing my issue because as I stated before overclocking my cpu just a lil bit more would really help since this game runs off 1 core. Thanks in advance. -
My speakers, or audio in general are starting to crackle, im having random game freeze ups which are quite anoying.
Devastator attacks slow the game down though, i dont think its a matter of frames hehe, ive done that before
Im not happy about the constant CPU whine either :/
And i have become a "cool" freak, i want the lappy running as cool as it can get and since p9500 have a twp of 25 as opposed to 45 with the quad, i was wondering how much cooler it would be.
I wouldnt mind another model of mine though, but i want to see what the gt725 is like. -
Could i ask someone with a voltage reading utility to give there voltage when using turbo button?
I think software like RMClock
Cpu-z
Everest
these can all tell voltages. -
I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but my Core VID is 1.275 V
(i'm using CPU-Z) and it doesn't change when turbo is on or off. -
My voltages change when I go into turbo mode; this is using CrystalCPUID
Gaming Mode: 2000mhz
Multiplier: Current 7.5x Max: 8.5x
Voltage: Current 1.388v Min: 1.163v Max: 1.388v
Turbo on: 2075mhz
Multiplier: Current 6.0x Max 8.5x
Voltage: Current 1.163v Min: 1.163v Max: 1.388v
No mode selected on high performance vista setting: 1700mhz (cores not engaged)
Multiplier: Current 8.5x Max 8.5x
Voltage: 1.388v Min 1.163v Max: 1.388v
Hope this helps to answer what you're looking for
Edit: Also using CPU-Z my CPU fluctuates between;
1.163v, 1.275v and 1.388v all in accordance with what's above
Edit2: Yeah Cat I noticed that the devestator moves did like a "slow-mo" effect, but I'm 100% positive this one was lag
! Was trying all day to get it to lag and during that mission I figured it out. lol
-
Mine's usually on 1.225v but sometimes goes as low as 1.087v
-
Thanks guys, your input is grealy appreciated and very detailed. You can sucessfully downvolt your processors (if you like i will give you a guide) in these super running tests like OCCT nad Prime95, you can knock 10C off northbridge and CPU (Same pipe i think) which is a very huge drop, and its completely stable.
Im collecting voltages to see why one of the MSI machines is having issues with the p8400 clocking to 2.9ghz, i think it was voltages.
If you guys like i can happily create an undervolt guide for you all
(Yes there is a way to get half multipliers undervolted also.)
-
I had trouble at 2.97, but it wasn't voltage (I don't think)
When using 20% turbo I can use 1.000V on the highest multiplier... I have to step it up to stay stable using Orthos at 24%, but even with RMclock off and voltages at normal GTA IV would spaz out. Like I said earlier, my guess was the memory clock, but I'm not sure.
At 20% turbo, these voltages work for me
6x 0.9000
7x 0.9375
8x 0.9750
9x 1.0000 -
Voltage guide would rock
)
Thanx in advance
-
There already is an undervolting guide... we don't really need a separate GT725 one
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824 -
Reading through 300 pages to figure out how to undervolt half multipliers for some people may not be an option though....Only few of us have patience
-
Hi everyone! Been enjoying the 725 with my audio apps since upgrading the bios to 1.0U (have not tried going back - yet - to 1.0S to see if it improves or not.) Running windows XP Pro with SP3 and FW updates, etc...(actually the SP1 FW drivers seem to work better...)
Something though that is bugging me is the ExpressCard slot. I have a 1394a certified ExpressCard that will not work with my audio interfaces at all. It does have a TI chipset in it. FW and pro-audio compatability is one of those hit-or-miss things so, since the internal firewire is working ok I figured I could put the ExpressCard FW interface to use to connect to an external HD. Well, the performance is horrible. I used a program HDspeedtest that is available from www.sawstudio.com in the misc downloads section. It's purpose is to help determine if your HD could support audio recording and playback.
I started the program and did a quick test on the system drive....came back with a score a little over 9000 - not bad, but not great BUT expected since it is the system drive. So I then tried the eSATA drive - scored something like 16k - much better. So I tried my external FW HD using the ExpressCard 1394 card - and only got ~ 2.5k - horrible. An inexpensive USB stick would perform better. So I plugged the drive into the internal FW port - jumped up to around 14k - much better. I even tried it's USB interface with the laptop and got just over 12k.
So it looks like there is a seriouse problem with either my ExpressCard or the ExpressCard slot. I really would hate to start ordering a bunch of ExpressCards to test - the shipping expenses would add up quickly.
Does anyone out there with a GT725-074 US have the capability to test their ExpressCard slot to see if it working ok - and at reasonable speed? I would like to put it to use - I've even thought about getting a Solid State Hard Drive card so that I can take a bit of the load off the internal drive and not have to carry an external....but if there are issues with their slot architechture it would be a waste of money...
Dave -
I found all I needed to set up my undervolt on the first page.
-
So did i, until i realised my clocks were at 1.7ghz which sucked, half multipliers arent on the first page.

By lifespan I don't mean when it'll be dead, but when it'll be out of date to the point you'll probably starting thinking about a new one. The laptop is a pretty fast one, but they age much quicker than desktops which get updates cheaper, and more quickly.
The machine will likely keep working well beyond 2 years unless something dies, but I doubt you'll want to be gaming on it in more than 2 years as an example, given progress rates of the last few years (unless you don't mind lowering your settings a lot). -
I found this video of the GT725 about installing a TV tuner for those interested..

Right, i have been searching around and i am quite tempted to buy an intel core 2 QX9300 (i can get one for £230), but can anyone confirm if i will lose my warranty when replacing the current processor (q9000), oh and i plan on getting a professional to do it (i don't trust myself enough).
Also, would the turbo function still work?
Blazin -
If I'm not mistaken there are two types of qx9300 processors.
Socket 775 with have a 1333mhz FSB and are designed for desktops..
And the Socket P (qx9300 mobile extreme) which is the one that would fit in our laptop.
The difference between the two is one is around $200 and one is $1000+. And we all know which one is the expensive one.
Of course if I'm wrong here then someone please chip in and say something cause i would love to jump to the qx9300 myself.
...
And I'm sure you will lose your warranty from changing the processor, send an e-mail to MSI to check. Maybe if someone certified that they can contact and ensure are knowledgeable and well certified enough to do it then maybe they'll keep the warranty?
Call and ask
-
QX9300 will go just fine, give it some ICD7 or AS5 to go with it, you will loose warrenty on the component (CPU) since its not MSI' default, but not other components, but you should get permission from MSI first.
Warrenty in near enough all cases (replaced part) for MSI, is always kept and never broken from upgrade unless your not very smart and decide to short something
-
What I find strange is that when I rang MSI to ask if I can take the back panel off the laptop, and they were fine with that. They also said they would let me replace the thermal paste without voiding the warranty. However, when I emailed them to ask the same question, they said that removing the back panel would void the warranty, and obviously I couldn't replace the thermal paste.
-
I'd say he was one of the newer employees then, MSI are definately light hearted about the warrenty, pannel can be removed and thermal paste can be swapped, its just a case of being careful to be honest, but try push for just 1 email that confirms what you say, so that if they do turn around, you have evidence which states your warrenty will remain intact.
-
Yeah I'll do that then. This is what he said though: "Hi,
If you remove the large panel on the underside of the laptop, the warranty will be to become invalid.
To repalace the thermal paste with arctic silver is not include the warranty.
Thanks."
The exact opposite of what the guy on the phone said. -
You would need the socket P QX9300.. Also you can upgrade the CPU, if something goes wrong where you need to send it back just put the other CPU back in.. Thats what I will do if something happens with mine..

Hey guys, got the 64 bit up and running, now I'm looking into those CAT 9.6 drivers...I tried looking at that website that was posted earlier in the forum but its all in Deutsche so I don't know how to register to see the instructions...Any suggestions ???

I posted a few pages back, just look for my post with the zip file attached, that should help.

Hello people! i need some help badly!
Just got my GT725-074 and the temp`s are running high! when i play left 4 dead maxed out it got to 90C yesterday. Ran left 4 dead today again, and got 80 degrees max temperature (cold day here). this without overclocking the GPU.
when it`s idle the temps are 55 for the gpu and 33 for the cpu, cpu goes up to 68 when on turbo.
After that i am scared of running games on it, i cant return the laptop if it get`s damaged because i imported it from USA and i do not know anyone who live there.
i `m using the stock driver`s and using hwmonitor for temperatures.
will run a 3d mark06 now to see how the temperature will act.
a curious thing is that when i ran auto-tune from the ati catalyst it tells me to put 540 / 890. i think if i had put this settings and played.
edit: anyone know how to increase the fan speed? i dont mind about huge noise if my system get cooled enought.
any help will be appreciated, thanks!! -

hey lambo, i found your post...What are the desktop drivers you say to download and how do I go about uninstalling the old drivers?
-

Drivesweeper to remove them, read the instructions first. I think you have to go into safe mode, sweep, restart and install the new ones. Supposedly improves performance
http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ -
now_here_is_nowhere Notebook Enthusiast
okay, you think i could maybe have a link to the correct new ones? Also I see the instructions for using the drivesweeper but not any specific for using it on the 4850 drivers...Do you know the specific folders that I use the program for to get rid of? Also on the website it says to uninstall the drivers first then use drivesweeper...is that necessary?
-
could i build an 1 x Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 mobile into the MSI GT725?
anyone know?
because I've got a quad core in mine, and a friend has this processor lying around. -
game.amd.com, you're looking for the full catalyst suite, should be about 40 to 60meg. To uninstall the old drivers, I don't use a cleaner or anything. I just go to device manager, right click on the 4850 under display adapters, click uninstall. It'll ask you if you want to delete the driver software, tick that box and click ok. You're screen will then go to some weird resolution, then just restart and install the new ones.
-
Why would you wanna swap a quad core for this dual core? Yours would be a Q9000 right? I'd stick with that personally.
-
Yeah, a Q9000. But I'm sceptic about how it would run single/dual threaded games, it only being 2.0ghz. I'm not saying I will swap the processors, just wondering, if I could if I wanted to.
I haven't tried out my laptop yet tho cuz I'm still at sea, got a call today that laptop arrived at my crib tho. the horror. must.. touch.. laptop -
Thinking I'll try Windows 7 now there's a new build. Seems from what I've read it's pretty stable.
I used a compatability tester and everthing comes up with a thumbs up on all the GT 725 Devices.
Now the the awkward bit. I've got 8 gig left on drive C: since there was only ever 47 gig on there. Drive D: has plenty but also has Steam client and a lot of game downloads I've paid for on there.
Using windows partition, what's the easiest way of making more room available on C: without having to reformat. Bear in mind win 7 64 bit needs 20 gig for the installer. I know I can go to the windows drive manager and create a new unpartioned space, but how do I then add this to drive C:?
If someone could just let me know how to do this without having to buy a partition tool, it would be a great help -
For those interested my mouse that came with laptop stopped working last night (frustratingly in the middle of awesome COH game). Word of warning trying to micro manage units with a touch pad is hazzard to your health.
I've replacement uplift and receplacement to [email protected] -

Ok thanks, I'll give this a try

now_here_is_nowhere Notebook Enthusiast
Okay thanks man...It was all going peachy until after a successful installation Catalyst wouldn't start up and under device manager it didnt say that the new drivers were installed (or any for that matter). Does it have something to do with it installing in the x86 program files? -
Trust me. The Windows drivers are just WONDERFUL compared to the catalysts for linux/X.org... They're so awful that they may as well be an advertisement for nVidia.
[EDIT]
Late I know, but
@000022
Well, if he plans on using linux or any other *NIX like that uses X.org/X11 and is "supported" by ATI, I'd STRONGLY suggest the GT280m, as I mentioned above, the AMD catalyst drivers for X.org are pathetically plagued with problems. The only bonus for some people is that AMD is pandering to freetards by giving them all of their chips specs so that they can maybe write OSS drivers that actually function thereby saving AMD's bacon.
[/EDIT] -
Yeah, pre driver release were quite nice from windows
The new drivers aren't doing so bad though, but my GPU hs been acting quite strange today, im back to stock 8.56 drivers, playing crysis with no stuttering at all, i get some fallout 3 stuttering that i didnt have with 9.4-9.6 drivers though.
I really want to get windows 7 for sure though. -
yeah, going to do the same tonight. just need to free up more RAM on C: so I can do a system backup.
I've completed, exhausted Fallout now I've finished every mission for Point Look Broken Steel, Pitt and Anchorage. Now Level 30 with most perks (animal friend is cool) and privlages. Got all the weopon plans too
Game gets two easy when you've got Fawkes, Dogmeat and a mind controlled Deathclaw doing all the killing, and Meeting of the Minds in Point Look was too easy with a Tesla Cannon
Started playing Dungeon Siege 2 with Broken World. Past this up first time and I'm loving it on my GT725! Well worth visiting some older games I didn't have the juice to run first time! -
Guys i need help....
My SO: windows 7 64 bits.
I used the driver swepper for after install drivers and CCC.
But... the resolutiuon screen decrease for maximum 1400x1200 and i can't install the drivers and CCC for the 4850.
I tried much version of catalyst. Sometimes i can install the CCC, but his no run... and i try like administrator..
pissed of...
Tell me what do i do, please... -
I just got GTA 4, and it is THE most resource hogging game out. Luckily i have the quad version of the gt725 as this is where you actually see the performance improvemets. I can run it at 1280x800 with textures on high, shadows on medium, draw distance at 25 and detail distance at 30 and get about 45-50fps average. However i have used an added command line to the 'target' box on the shortcut, which allows me to exceed the amount of graphics memory available to me. According to gta4, i am using 800mb out of my 512mb of graphics memory
oh and i just got a wired xbox 360 controller for windows, which runs perfectly with GTA4
Just thought i would share it with you guys if you were thinking of getting it -
I've been using a wired controller on Assasins Creed. Enyoy it more on the PC than the 360 for some reason. I find playing on this notebook you stare more intently and get into it more than you do on the TV. Even though my TV is a 42 Plasma in HD? strange.
-
Hehe, im really just getting stuck in now fish
level 10, have an ally paladin, and enjoying energy weapons with the fat man to make the baddies suck on now and then
