Do you have the GT725 with a 1920x1200 screen? Because this 17inch screen is higher resolution than both of my lcd tvs (22inch - 1680x1050 and 37inch - 1920 x 1080), which means it looks better on my 17 inch screen![]()
and the textures on pc are probably far better than on xbox 360 (they certainly are for gta4)
-
Yeah I've got the UK 210 with 1920. Ha! even my 42" 1080p HD can't compete with that. I guess that's why games look better.
-
Hehe, thats because all the "next gen" consoles use "old gen" GPU technology
I want GTA4 to try, my lower res should allow me to play with everything on highest , just a lower distance level.
I dont know why but when i game better on smaller screens, i tend to do alot better, i think the MSI community should all get one online game and xfire up or something
-
cat did you get my pm?
-
aaaaaaaaaaaaaa, sorry jort, i've had 50pms in the last day alone about questions
So were looking to overclock? what machine do you currently have?
-
No prob :]
I have the GT729 MSI.
Same CPU as you have. -
And you cannot at present overclock the CPU to anything more then 2.0ghz?
-
I'm not home yet. I'm on sea underway to home, but I have no experience in overclocking, although I'm pretty deep into computers, so you can use terms ;p
-
but I thought it would be nice if I had a what to do list immediatlly when I get home, to feed my new laptop addiction..
-
well for the 729 there may be a simple button press to overclock it
-
can you update me on that?
I read a bit about that button, does it really overlock your CPU? Sounded like a fairytale to me, never heard about that before.. -
What processor does your GT729 have?
-
Yes, on all duo core models, but the standard gt725 with quad does not there are some hopes that the 729 does.
-
Well the button is on there, is what they said anyhow,
CPU is Q9000 -
Well if not, we can flash bios and this should enable the use of third party software for overclocking, but honestly, the machine does not really need any boost of power
-
What that guy said ^
-
to how much does the turbo boost it then?
-
16-24% depending on settings, you have alot of flexability when it comes to overclock options.
-
Well, crap, I should've ordered my 212US model earlier. Now it's deactivated on Newegg and the price jumped really high up on Amazon, and I have to pay basically an additional $100.
-
What about looking for tokens watev?
-
Tokens? Is that a joke or something?
I mean, I have the money, I was just hoping to get it for $1,600 with free shipping instead of $1,682 with $16 shipping.
-
Browse around for some discount tokens, there are normally loads floating round the web, you should be able to bring it down somehow?
-
Well, Amazon coupon codes are usually for specific items, and on top of that, this isn't even directly from Amazon, but rather an Amazon reseller.
-
Hmm, guess theres not much we can do then :/
-
Nah, but I might wait and see if it goes down or whatever. Do you guys think this might be getting ready for the GT729? I thought that was due out in September or something, though.
-
It is going to be released late, but i do see a reason to hold off on releasing new models, so yeah, the 628 and 727 and 729 may be holding off, im sure 725 will be reduced though, if it stays around.
-
Guys i have to yell this out because this is amazing....
Using a mix of CPU and GPU, this video encoder is working wonders.
http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Avivo-Video-Converter-6.4-download-1281.html
Cutting 40minute conversions down to 2 minutes....
To use, use basic catalyst centre options and just select avivo converter, follow the steps from there.
(Great for ipod conversions and such, super fast)
Like cuda technology, this uses our cards stream processing tech.
Anyway, give me lots to read for after 2 weeks at vacation.
Cata o/ -
+1 for you!!
-
It truly is fast nacr, im encoding for my ipod as we speak and im jaw dropping at the speed of this recode....

It's a good little programme, still a little buggy atm though, and it doesn't support enough input codecs or enough output control. Once it's become more stable and cable of a wider range of input and output it'll be a good little tool.
Can add that to my list of wants from ATI along with HDMI audio that works with a DX10 game (works fine in DX9, but DX10 has been broken since about 8.6 drivers, and dont want to revert and loose massive amounts of optimisation!) -
Ive had no problem with DX9 and 10 audio output with the 8.6 drivers
You just need to set the audio device in sound pannel in the control pannel thing.
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
With 8.6 drivers it should be fine, its just completely broken for a lot of DX10 games (AoC, Crysis) with later driver sets, even if you use the latest realtek HDMI audio drivers; Realtek reputedly reporting it's an ATI issue, which makes sense as the 8.6 drivers and DX10 audio are fine, whereas 8.7 onwards aren't, if you google it unfortunately theres no solution atm beyond reverting
I just want them to fix it, as thats a lot of optimisations to miss out on, having to stick with the 8.6 drivers, luckily I don't play many DX10 games atm, but its a frustrating bug and I do have reason to use the hdmi audio output, I don't want to have to remain on 8.6's forever, especially with heavier use of DX10 beginning to kick in, and DX11 (basically DX10.1+) on the near horizon with Windows7

Just wanted to let everyone know Steam is having a discount on Fallout 3. 50% off the game is only $19.99
For any who haven't played it it's a great game and is a remarkable time consumer
.
-
its still like $35 though, isnt it?
-
No if you buy the game normally it's $39.99, but if you buy through steam right now it's only $19.99. You download the game directly after you buy it. I had download speeds of up to 400kb/s back in Germany on my DSL connection. Downloading FO3 right now (I had it for my xbox previously and only got about 1/4 of the way through it before I got deployed). So now I'm downloading it for p/c however my D/L speeds are only 15kb/s (due to my connection).. So it's ganna take about 4-5 days lol, but well worth it. Was just throwing it out there if anyone was looking to pick it up for half off.
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
I remember when our home got internet for the first time.... Gosh, i would kill myself if I ever had to go back to that speed
-
Haha well it's either this or nothing at all over here in Iraq. Don't really have much of a choice. But in 6 months I'll be back home to my 400+ kb/s downloads living the good life

So I got my GT725 from newegg this Monday, and it's been amazing so far.
Was pretty good, the 212US open box for $1,250.
Everything appears to be alright, there was a user profile, but I just wiped and installed Windows 7.
Anyone get the overclocking function to work in 7? My button works but according to CoreTemp my clock is still at 2GHz.
Otherwise, this was an amazing deal, Blu-Ray, 1920x1200 Screen, Radeon HD 4850.
I tried the 9.6 drivers earlier in this thread, but I just switched to the ones from Windows Update since the 9.6 ones couldn't play Prototype smoothly (which the Windows Update ones play fine at max resolution/settings) -
It's $25.00 when half-off here, but I guess it's different if you have a German Steam account. I might buy it, since I played it a lot on my PS3, but I'm not sure if I want to waste my money on that or something new like STALKER.
-
Ok I got Windows 7 on the old moby now
Seems to load nice and quick. So far I like.
The install was a pain. First I wanted to back up the current OS onto two DVDs using the MSI Backup tool. Just couldn't free up enough disc space to do it, so tried to expand C: in vista, after creating an unpartitioned space. Couldn't do that because D was already a Primery partition, so had to copy 200 gigs worth of Steam games and data of the drive and delete the D: partition. This then enabled me to expand the C: partion. Once I'd done this I could then remake a new D: partition and copy all the data backup and then upgrade to Win 7. I really think C: should be set to a minimum 100 gig when leaving the factory!
A couple of things I need to do, PC Guard supplied by virgin media, which is kinda of lame, but works mos of the time and is free for their users, no longer works. I think some drivers need updating repairing. Also the Blue Tooth driver dosn't seem to like win 7 keeps asking to be repaired. Guess I can get the latest from MSI, although I suspect this is only for Windows Vista, or is it just Win 32 bit. Also does anyone have a link for MSI GT725 Win 7 drivers.
Thanks for everyones help so far. This is a really cool thriving community! -
Ok also noticed catalyst control centre and turbo button icon dosn't appear. Does this mean turbo feature not supported in Win 7?
-
Awesome, found this laptop on eBay for $1,600 sealed in box w/free shipping. Guess I don't have to pay that extra $100 after all.
-
I've tried using the latest catalyst tool, and the win 7 beta cat and driver. It installs, with no errors but catalyst control centre dosn't appear to deployed and working, and turbo/eco modes still dont appear to work. Any ideas?
-
WOW!!! just encoded a 1.5hr incompatable video for my Western Digital Media player in 13 minutes!! BTW +rep! (crap i already have rep'd ya before)
-
Woohoo, guys! Just ordered my GT725-212US from eBay and also picked up Fallout 3 on the weekend deal. Can't wait!

Thank you, but would I be able to access this information off of a partition with no OS? can i just delete my D partition so it is all under C or should you not do that? whats the point of having different partitions is is pretty much my question. -
Turbo in Win 7? I just installed Win 7 x64 and every driver and turbo worked straight away......
-
ou
I would keep it and leave C: as a Primary Partition, you would at least get to read the data in D:from DOS or other install?
