I also ran Crysis for 4 hours with my GT725 and the max temp was 78c...
-
I'd be worried if mine was getting 86 degrees, is that with OC?
As for the new MSI drivers, I'd say install the latest 9.6 modded drivers (tut from here) and the latest DNA CCC. I don't know what people are saying how modded 9.6 drivers are making their computer unstable; I've had no such problems.
I'm going to install 64bit soon, its strange that all the 64bit drivers are under the Vista32 directory one the drivers disk. I'll let y'all know how it goes -
Also, I do think that "hacked" is a strong word for the drivers we use. All we do is add one line into a text (or .inf) file, hardly hacking.
And nacr05, how did you get your status as MSI Supporter? -
The Toms hardware review just reinforces what a great product the MSI GT725 is.
It's a value product that gives great latest games gen performance, and has some headway for OC'ing and upgrading.
I've now got MSI CC and latest 9.6 working under Win 7 32 bit. I can definately see some performance improvement in COH and Crysis Warhead. Also getting good performance out of CS4 and 3D Studio 2009 for rendering.
Best £1200.00 I've spent so far. -
'shoe horning' perhaps?

In user CP, edit profile, its in there.

Without a doubt. Price, size, weight, performance.....the GT725 is a serious sleeper hit, IMHO. But I love the 1722 chassis. It is near perfect IMHO. The 4850 is the 280's equal pretty much and that rocks.
I'd be interested in someone not only monitoring temps but ALSO checking their GPU clocks to see if there is any downclocking going on. -
I played GTA 4 all the way through while I had ATI Tray Tools set up to show my clocks and temps in the OSD... just to keep an eye on it.
During regular gameplay, My temps were in the high 70's or low 80's. However, during cutscenes and the pause menu (that's right, pause menu) the temps went up to around 85. This is with the back of the notebook elevated a little, but no notebook cooler... also turbo on (20%)
With the GPU at 550/900 the temps were about 5 degrees higher all around... which is why I decided to leave it at stock. I have checked temps with MSI and ATI drivers, and it didn't seem to change anything.
Through all this, with temps up to 90 degrees, I NEVER saw the GPU downclock or saw any effects of it. -
Oh, so now you're an MSI Maniac, I see whats going on here
.
I've posted this before in another thread, I owned a XPS M1730 (as you can probably tell from my signature) and it was hopless. I payed as much as I did for the MSI, but it was 2kg heavier, about 9000 3dmark 06 point slower (no, seriously, it couldn't even handle old games on high). Now I have the GT725, I realize that you don't have to have a big, over-the-top gaming machine that makes the graphics cards sit on 90 degrees idling, to enjoy games on their highest settings. This laptop is a milestone for other brands to marvel at, purely AWESOME!!!
-
I have never changed the clocks on mine, because it always underclocks the graphics card when you're not using it. It sits on GPU-250mhz, and RAM-200mhz. Sometimes when I'm using a 3D program, I've seen it GPU-300mhz and RAM 400mhz. So basically, if you're playing Crysis, it'll max out the clocks to whatever your maximum is, but if you're only playing, say, HL2, the clock would probably sit at 400-500.
-
Amen to that
-
Yup, Diablo 2 keeps the clocks at 250/200

Thanks man, I will do it over the next couple of days as I have finals this week...Cheers!! -
Sorry, in that post before I meant to say XPS M1730, not XPS M1710. The 1710 is actually better performing that the 1730!
-
I highly doubt that... GPU performance wise 79x0 go series doesnt touch that of dual 8800m GTX. A top end M1710 can get what? 5000 in 3Dmark06? Well, M1730 tripples that.
M1710, about 5000
ernstig01 and a few other's M1730 have managed 15000. M1730 is an awesome machine, but it needs equal effort to make sure the setup is correct, in order to gain most game performance. Extra features do make the laptop heavier, but it really depends on who and how they'll use it. -
Dude, I owned a XPS M1730 and an XPS M1710, had them both side by side, running the same applications. Mine was the XPS M1730 with the 8700GT's though. There wasn't much of a difference, but it was noticable. Maybe my setup wasn't the best though, but I know enough to decide that the GT725 is better than the XPS M1730.
-
Maybe there was something wrong with my XPS M1730 though? Because I'm sure the XPS M1710 was getting better framerates.
-
Has anyone installed windows xp black on their computer im kinda interested in doing that. Also lambo are you still going to install vista 64 bit

Was speaking to one of the laptop buyers at OcUK and (I don't know how true this is, but I have no reason to disbelieve as they actually sell MSI laptops) was told the reason they're out pretty much everywhere is MSI are having trouble sourcing thier 17" screens at the moment, which is causing some massive curtails in stock delivery, as they're not able to produce enough to keep up with demand.
Hopefully if they haven't sorted it shortly, they'll take on a new panel from another supplier, which could be good as I noticed the reviews did criticise the current panel a little (viewing angles et al).
@Mark
- I wouldn't bother reinstalling XP, it doesn't cope with newer hardware as well as Vista/Windows7. I'd definately giving Vista 64 a shot if you haven't, it's an exceptional OS. -
I've plumped for the latest Win7 64 Beta. It's rock solid with my GT725. Just had to download the MSI CC and Blutooth drivers, it installed everthing else with no trouble. I LOVE MY MSI GT725 210UK it ROCCCKKKSKKK!!!
Panels are shooting up in price since a number of far east manufacturers either closed shop due to concerns over the global economy or sold off stock by as much as 50% to clear stock. If you've been in Currys Digital since Christmas you will have seen monitor and LCD TV prices hitting rock bottom. Dixons chain got seriously hurt by this. It seems they misjudged demand but new suppliers are gradually comming on line, although this could take time to settle down. -

Hey guys, the little moon at the bottom of the touchpad lights up and stays lit and I'm not sure why, anyone know?
Also I'm running Vista 64bit and have had 2 "unexpected shutdowns" has anyone had this happen to them before? -
The moon is a power on/off supend function, so blinks when suspended, blue when system is active... don't worry I think it's behaving as it should.
Has your OS bluescreened. If it does make a note of the crash log. Otherwise you may want to look at any running processes, could be program compatability with video card, audio hardware, who knows, it's a jungle out there

i want to upgrade my dvd rom fw
( i am on sony webside and i make all steps to flash and it says failt..omg..
-
That explains it then. The set up was...
.
8800m GTX >dual 8700m GT (sli)
7950 GTX go >/= 8700m GT>7900 GS.
When you had it back then, the drivers weren't as good neither. So sli performance of two 8700m may actually been worse than a single. A M1730 is really worth is if there are dual 8800m GTX, where as M1730+8700m is not. -
Yeah sorry dude, I didn't mean to get into an arguement about something you're obviously so passionate about.
Also, I installed Vista64 on my lappy last night. All works fine, I've just got to install the graphics drivers (the easiest part). I would reconmend doing this if you still have 32bit. The only thing I'm worried about from here on is activating windows. I chose to enter the key and active windows later, so I'll see how it goes keeping it all legal. I'm very happy with how everything works.
PS: lenarass, touchpad works fine (i.e. turbo, eco, wireless etc.) -
Ok, now I have to go to all you for help with my graphics drivers. I've just switched to Vista 64, and I've tried rupp3r's tutorial, tester...'s tutorial, my own modded .inf files, and nothing is working. I get an error: "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to intall it. The system cannot read from the specified device." Any thoughts?

okay thanks for the advice...I just upgraded to Vista SP2 so I'm thinking that may fix a few of the bugs that were going on
.. Cheers

Also has anyone checked out RUPP3R's tutorial a page or 2 back on how to install Cat 9.6? Whoever has installed them already check it out and tell me if that looks right for 64 bit because he said he couldn't check it as hes not running x64
-
Well, damn, guys, I have good and bad news about the arrival of my GT725. The bad news is that the guy I bought the GT725 from on eBay called and said they're pretty much discontinued now and that I'm not going to be getting one after all.
However, the good news is that he talked to MSI and they told him that the GT729 is going to be released fairly soon (well, probably a month, he's going to give me an ETA later) and he's going to use my $1,588 payment to give me that one. So pretty much I'm going to be getting the GT729 for the same price that I would've gotten the 725 for. Let's hope it's worth the wait, guys!
Edit: As far as I know, the GT729 has the dual core, not the quad core. You guys don't think it'll make a huge difference right now, will it? -
The GT729 will be out in Mid September.. A dual Core will be fine, not to many programs are optimized for quad core as of yet...
-
I just posted 2 posts before you to say they didn't work. Can you just check that post because the error I'm getting could be something different. VERRRYYY FRUSTRATING!!!
-
So I'm RMAing my laptop to Newegg hoping I get a good exchange, wish my luck and hopefully my computer will be stable this time
they said a min of 2-3 weeks x.x -
how did you made them work? just download the system control manager from msi.com ??/
-
GT729 http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=newsdesc&news_no=792
DDR3 RAM ..oh no. but the stock one carry only 1gb
our GT725 cant take DDR?? at 1066.. oh nooo??? -
Yeah download MSI CC. Mine works ok on win 7 64 bit. The only problem I have is when I boot off, there's an error message, saying the Control Centre has not shut down properly. Guess it's still a bit flakey in Win 7. Otherwise eveything else checks out, apart from Catalyst Control Centre, which only ever seems to work with the original MSI VGA drivers
I've run the 9.6 drivers modified and they seem to be ok.
-
You need not only the System Control Manager, but also the infared receiver driver for the touchpad. Also the individual drivers (bluetooth, wireless, webcamera).
So far as I can see, everything works fine on 64bit. I'm using 9.4DNA drivers at the moment, hopefully only temporary. Activating windows is also a pain, I've sent Microsoft an email, but I think its because I'm using it in a different region to what I bought the laptop in (America -> Australia). All the drivers work fine though, nothing to worry about here. -
Bluetooth driver was the only one that gave me some grief. It works now, but still came up with a compatability error on boot, which I've disabled since it works at any rate.
Very cool rendering in 3DS Max 2009 last night in open GL, heavy HDRI scene in mental ray, running a little slow, so I hit the Turbo button, suddenly massive improvement in rendering, like a 3 fold improvement in speed. I'm thinking that all four cores benefit from a speed boost? -
is that infrared receiver which you can find it under touchtpad at the right??
-
go thee http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1676
the first driver you see "Modem Drivers for Agere D40V2 (Vista32)"
..
is that? -
another question about battery life. If i have my battery charged and AC adapter together and working on laptop at the same time there is a chance to damaged the battery and make it last shorter?
-
The infrared reciever is located at the front just to the right of the touch pad and so connects with any devices employing infrared wireless communication
The first driver in hte MSI list are modem drivers, the internal modem for the laptop
I don't think your battery will be damaged if you leave it in while charging. On purchase you should consume all the power from the battery first then fully charge. Then discharge completely untill power down, and then continue to use the machine normally. This will ensure it works to it's full potential over time.
And hey I made page 300! -
i know that if i will let it overcharge the power will cut down.i mean charging and using the laptop at the same time..any effect to the batterY? -
It's true that leaving a battery in a laptop for a period of time while on the AC can reduce the batteries performance. Two weeks continous AC can be enough to reduce the batteries effectiveness.
However as far as I'm aware, although I havn't checked the official line from MSI is that the notebooks battery management under Windows is designed to stop damage like this occuring. I've owned many notebooks, have always connected to the mains, and have never seen problems occur with the battery
Your battery can be calibrated by following these steps:
Disable the Windows Power Management
In Windows right-click the Desktop and select Properties in the menu list.
Click the Screen Saver tab and then click the Power button.
Under Power schemes, select Always On in the drop down menu.
Under Settings for Always On power scheme, select Never in each of the drop down menus.
Click OK on the Power Options Properties window and then click OK on the Display Properties window.
Fully charge the battery
Connect the AC adapter to the notebook.
Charge the battery until the Windows battery meter is at 99/100%.
Fully discharge the battery
Remove the AC adapter.
Keep the notebook on until the battery has completely drained and the notebook automatically turns off.
Connect the AC adapter to the notebook.
Keep the AC adapter connected to the notebook until the battery has completely charged.
Enable the Windows Power Management
In Windows, right-click the Desktop and select Properties in the menu list.
Click the Screen Saver tab and then click the Power button.
Under Power schemes, select Portable/Laptop in the drop down menu.
Click OK on the Power Options Properties window and then click OK on the Display Properties window. -
What you want is the infared receiver driver. Its actually supplied by HP. Find it here
I see what you mean about render time being reduced using the turbo. I use blender 3d, and when I use turbo, it cuts about 2-5 seconds off a 20 second render. Pretty impressive, considering I'm using the dual core P8400, set to 20% overclock. -
maybe i was misstype my question
...
..if i will never disconnect my battery from my notebook.. and while i am playing i have battery and ac adapter on it ...i will make my battery last earlier? -
If I understand your question, then no I don't think it makes a lot of difference whether you take the battery out or not. Your battery will charge as it needs too. The notebook has power management software that determines how much carge is required.
All batteries deteriate over time, due to age, heat, environment. I think the machine being connected to the AC while the batteries in place isn't a big deal. -
does the MSI GT725 ahve a spare gfx slot think its MXM 3.0 yea, just wondered about the posibility of a Xfire
and is it the same mobo as the advent 6555 as it look essentially the identical laptop with a lower res screen (which im gona change) -
Nope, the GT725 unfortunately doesn't have a spare GPU slot. Even if it did, though, you'de have some hard problems keeping it all cool. And yes, it is the same as in the Advent 6555, the only difference I think is the HDD, maybe.
-
ah nvm lol ... i can cope with 1 shame since teh chipset can support it .. but nvm ... ill jsut ahve to upgrade my 4850 when need to but itll hold out a few years once i changed my screen on the advent to a 1920x1200 will be awsome machine ...
can you flash the bios on the advent with the MSI overclockable one or is the Advent overclockable? -
joedouce.... you want 1920x1200 screen on notebook???
it will be out a few yrs??
lol
check out the msi.com better m8
i have one laptop with that res..
