What do you want to do on this laptop? NOTHING is too hard for this laptop, not even Crysis on DX10. I doubt you'll be getting frustrated for quite some time. I'd say you can use the same tools to flash the BIOS, ask cataclysm, he owns this laptop.

EDIT: I'd go with a 1680x1050 screen personally.

Yeah it's really cool. My prefered setting is 1680x1050 high with 4x AA. You get good solid performance FPS, animations and effects look really natural and immersive, runs really fast!

It is rock hard, through out the game. Very different to Call Of Duty. You start by trying to play like that, and it gets you know where. It's very subtle, and once you get into the simulation aspect of it, the game really immerses you.

I've found the single player missions can get quite confusing. You really need to pay attention to everything that's going on.

Generally not a great thing if your potebook looses power suddenly, which is
why I tend to keep my battery in when on AC.

Especially this notebook, the plug feels a bit loose. Sudden shutdown could cause loss of data corrupted system files, defragmented hard disc and so.

Top tactical shooter games, in no order, some old, some new, all playable on our lovely MSI GT725:

    Battlefield 2
    Counter-Strike: Source
    America's Army 3
    Sniper - Art of Victory
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2
    Commandos Strike Force
    SWAT 3/4
    ArmA: Queen's Gambit
    Half-Life 2
    Far Cry 2
    F.E.A.R. 2
    Medal of Honor Allied Assault
    Bioshock
    Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
    Call of Duty 1/2/3/4
    Crysis/Crysis Warhead
    Doom 3
    Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
    Left 4 Dead
    Painkiller
    Turok
    Arera 51
    Halo: Combat Evolved
    Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

Ahh... theres loads more getting bored of typing :) try Gamespot or IGN :)

Is there any way to disable the annoying flashing blue led light that blinks when the laptop is asleep? It's preventing me from sleeping.

If that LED isn't used for anything important beyond sleep indication, I usually find a little bit of duck tape coloured black with permanent marker over the offending light works pretty well on these sorts of things :)

the MSI recovery disc tool requires a minimum 10 gig of back up space to run on C: Make sure this is the case before you execute the program.

This won't backup your installed applications. I've bought a Western Digital USB drive for this purpose, which I can copy back across if I have to reformat. Speeds up recovery.

VISTA has a perfectly good back up tool in Control Panel - Back Up and Recover Tool - Create System Repair Disc :)

what do u mean by saying " I can copy back across if I have to reformat"
you copy paste the hole C: to your external or just the .exe files you need?
also do u know a program that backup all programs i have in a dvd so reformating with that dont have to reinstall all my apps

Yes just copy the whole of your install drive, at a time when you know your applications and so on are working. Then use windows system restore to disc.

Even if you have to reinstall some apps it will save a lot of time. You will need a portable USB disc with plenty of HD space, such as the Western Digital which has 320 Gig and costs only £69.00. Very cheap back up cost!

Anyone found any further info about these coming into stock in the UK?
Am getting a little impatient, my room is absolutely baking this time of year!
Closest secondary option I can find is the OcUK 15" [Titan Apollo?] thats on preorder, however it only uses a GTX 260M which is weaker judging by every single benchmark I've seen (even for Crysis, which is notoriously NV-centric), in comparison to the Mobility 4850 which I'd prefer. I'd also be stuck with no blu-ray, a weaker CPU and no OS for it to come in anywhere near the same price.

The UK seems to suck a bit for powerful laptops at more justifiable prices; especially when you consider the range available for our US colleagues.
The MSI genuinely seems the best bet at the moment which is why I'm holding out on one.

Hello people, i am new to the forum, and i want to share mine experiences with this wonderful notebook with you.

About driver`s i first used the stock one that came with the laptop, then changed it to DNA 9.4 a couple of weeks ago.

Then i started getting more and more problem`s while playing games like crysis and devil may cry, like BSOD`s and freezed black screens.

The exactly moment i managed to find out that the driver`s were the problem, the updated official MSI driver came out, i installed them and now the system is very stable without any crash`s at all. Don`t know about 9.6 performance trought, might be better than the MSI driver, but i think i will wait until MSI updates the official driver because of the stability is gives.

One thing that surprised me out is that the default memory frequency on the notebook is 667 MHZ. If i lift it up to 800 MHZ the CPU and GPU get 5C more hot while on full load, going up to more than 90C, so i leave it at 667 MHZ because my temps are already very high.

I get 55C temp when on idle and 86C playing crysis/Devil May Cry at very high/high and 2X AA and without any overclock/turbo. Is this good temp`s or the laptop is running too hot? i never saw any type of artifact trought.

I searched around for a way to set the fan speed but was not able to find anything that could do the job.

    Thanks!

125°C is shutdown temperature for mobile CPU's. Anything up to 90°C stock full load would be acceptable, so your within safe limits.

Just be wary of the fact that this notebook has only one fan cooling both the CPU and GPU. This combined witht the position of the exhaust vents makes gaming difficult on your lap. I use a large hard back book :)

Some while back someone posted this - I am now having the same problem when installing the latest drivers from the MSI site - really would like to know if anyone has found a solution, it bugs me that I am stuck on the stock drivers that came with the lappy.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks guys!!

Hmmm....guess they didnt test their drivers too well then. This is a very long thread, ive tried to search for info on modded 9.6 catalysts, with no luck - any chance a kind soul would be able to post a link, either to a premodded 9.6 file or to a link on how to mod /install myself?

Sorry if this is a /sigh question!

It is possible to buy backup tools to recover your PC. I was suggesting the cheapest way to do this is to use Windows backup recover to disc and to copy your whole install directory to a backup disc, to save reinstalling all your programs.

You don't have to, just suggesting you can to save time, if you want to reformat for some reason.

So it seems one of my USB ports is dead.. It supplies power, but it doesn't have a data connection.. Which is weird, because it worked for a few hours when I plugged in a mouse, but then it suddenly stopped and hasn't been responsive since..

Anyone know a good eSATA->USB converter so I can use that port for USB?

It does look pretty beasty, probably about 1/2 the graphics performance of the GT725 again; saying that though I bet it cost an insane amount judging by the UK alienware prices and Im just wondering why you've paid so much for SLI 280M then not upgraded the CPU at all, as, based on desktop observations, that's surely going to be a limiting point in the minimum framerate department :)

that's cool, some applications (Adobe CS4 Suite for example) will just repair the installation and shouldn't replace files already resident on the drive, so will take out some time reinstalling. That's a big deal for me since this application suite takes an hour or more to install. I have setup drive C: for OS and tools, Drive D: Apps software, Drive E: Games.

I run a lot of proffesional apps software so the benefit of doing this works out, but isn't worth while just for office and a few games.

Makes sense then to some degree :) 2700 is a hell of a lot to drop on a laptop, but if you'll use it and can afford it, well I'm sure you'll enjoy it :D I personally could afford it with a finance, but I just wouldn't feel comfortable shelling out that much on a laptop that'll be dated when it comes to gaming in the next couple of years :) Looks like an awesome spec though!

BTB - Can someone run HDTach long test/something similar so I can see what the HDD performance is like on the 5400RPM drives that come with most of these is like :)

Hey rupp3r, I'm using vista 64 atm, and am using 9.4 DNA drivers (they suck because I have to disable driver signing every time I want to start my comp). I'd be happy to be a guinea pig for new drivers. I'll try tester...'s drivers again, because I think I may have done something wrong.

And I think someone said that they couldn't find a link on how to install the new drivers from ATI, I've posted multiple times attaching the .inf files you need.

You mean the case as in what? The aluminium, or the red painted bit? Or underneath?

And we're due for new drivers soon! My money's on a performance decrease this month.

So I can just plug a USB cable into there? Because I tried, and it doesn't really fit.

edit: There we go! I assumed this was the case, but after trying a couple times unsuccessfully, I gave up.

But I got it now, thanks!

When I owned a DELL, you could just buy individual parts of the laptop, so I guess you can do the same with MSI. You'de be looking at a couple of hundred dollars at least.

What I was talking about was you can plug a USB stick into the e-sata port! Holy awesomeness!

And no I don't play arma2, the only games I play are Portal and Race Driver Grid (you can see me playing online if you wanna race)
