You are aware that for whatever reason, desktop machines/consoles aren't suitable for everyone, for example he may be very space limited or travel a lot? Yeah it's a lot of money, but don't be rude, a lot of people spend a lot more money on other hobbies!

    Hi

I got my GT725 a few months after reading some of the comments in this post, and ive got a few questions.

    Windows 7
Whats the RC been like on a GT725? Any problems? I interested in getting it but wanted to check if theres any known issues.

    Errors
Has anyone else been getting a error along the lines of:

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

It occurs on start up and seems to hang the system for a 10 seconds or so.

    Sleeve
Has anyone managed to find a sleeve for this laptop, like a neoprene one or something a bit tougher.

    Thanks

I'm compelled to chime in now aswell - lenarass, english obviously isn't your first language, and I do not point that out to cause offence, but the way you word alot of your posts does seem to come across as a bit impatient and rude.

Also not sure if its been pointed out or discussed, but Lambo, the paint on the laptop bezel seems to be identical to the stuff on the touchpad - I have very light marks on mine from where my fingers push the lid open. I guess MSI didn't think their choice of paint through very well!

Also add me to the list of people that have that error after installing the latest MSI driver package - I decided to go back to the modded 9.6's

So my gt725 arrived the day before yesterday, unfortunately I havent had as much time as I would have liked to play around with it because of work, but tomorrow I should get a good chance.

The only issues ive had so far really were installing the drivers, and 3dmark is freezing on the loading screen. I had a go of futuremark or w/e the other version is called and it runs okay. Havent been able to try it more than once, dont remember my score either.

Can anyone else tell me theirs so i can compare tomorrow?

But all in all, so far I love it. Runs oblivion, tf2 and prototype like a dream.

Sorry I didn't see your post there. In answer, I don't think it matters what .inf file you choose, one just supports more cards than the other. But since we add our card in anyway, it makes no difference.

main problem I'm having with Win 7 is just Catalyst Control Centre not starting and a weird error from the MSI Control Centre software when I boot down. Aside from that perfect, and good performance from cat 9.6.

I bought a really good looking simple 17" sleeve from PC World (own brand) of all places. It's light in weight and has a really nice red lining which matches the notebook trim, almost looks like it was designed for it.

This a post to tell all how to install drivers from scratch, after a re-format or the like, and will be included in my signature.

I'm sorry I can't just attach a .zip with all the drivers, I tried that and it totalled 350mb! So what I'll do is tell you where to find drivers on the disk or net.

    Vista 32 users:

    1. Install the intel chipset drivers, they are HERE.

    2. Now install the network drivers, wireless is found at (DVDdrive)\Vista32\Wlan\Intel\Vista\v32\Drivers, and the .exe is called dpinst32. Wired LAN is found at (DVDdrive)\Vista32\Lan\Realtek, and the .exe is called setup.

    3. Now install the audio drivers, they're on the disk at (DVDdrive)\Vista32\Audio\Realtek and the .exe is called setup.

    4. Now for the touchpad, you'll have to install the actual driver from HERE, and the System Control Manager at (DVDdrive)\AP\SCM\Vista, and the .exe is called SCMSetup.

    5. Now install the bluetooth drivers, at (DVDdrive)\Vista32\Bluetooth\Toshiba\x32, and the .exe is called setup.

    6. You can install the Card Reader from (DVDdrive)\Vista32\Cardreader\O2 and the .exe goes by the name of setup.

    7. The modem drivers are at (DVDdrive)\Vista32\Modem\Motorola, with an .exe called si32.

    8. And lastly, the Dolby Control Centre, which I just use to up the bass, is found at (DVDdrive)\AP\Dolby Control Center\Vista32 and it's called DCC_Spruce 1.1.0601.

    All is finished!

Vista 64 users, all the drivers will be the same, except for the wireless, which is at (DVDdrive)\Vista32\Wlan\Intel\Vista\v64\Drivers and called dpinst64, the bluetooth is at (DVDdrive)\Vista32\Bluetooth\Toshiba\x64 and called BtSwInst, and now all thats left is the modem at (DVDdrive)\Vista32\Modem\Motorola and it's called si64.

Hope this tutorial helps, all feedback is welcome.

Here is a later version of the Intel chipset drivers: 9.1.1.1015

To completely update all chipset drivers, create a .exe shortcut on your desktop, right click on it and click on Properties. Add a "(space) -overall" after the target location seen as such:

    "C:\Users\Mobile Freda\Downloads\INF_allOS_9.1.1.1015_PV.exe" -overall

Click 'Apply'. Then run it from the shortcut.

It will update the whole package. I always do it that way because just running it seems like it doesn't install all the package. Use at your own risk though.

Has anyone had issues with LCD sparkle? I got this laptop last week from Newegg and I seem to have a pretty bad panel. There is clearly a layer of sparkle and the viewing angle is off, colors only look bright with the screen tilted back further than usual.

I, myself, have no qualms about using this method. It is one of the commands listed in the readme.txt file in InfInst:

    -OVERALL
Updates ALL INF drivers on all available devices
even if third party drivers are currently installed.
This flag works in Interactive Mode only.

I included the 'use at your own risk' for the 'computer challenged' who have no idea what they are doing, no offense intended at anyone. Just that maybe this is better left for the 'computer savvy'. Up to the individual.

Ok, I updated to 9.6 drivers from ATI using Lambofreak's instructions. I then downloaded MSI's latest drivers and installed CCC only. Both seem to be playing together very well. No error on bootup. :)

Well the first issue was that it wasnt letting me install drivers, because I was getting some kind of error, I cant remember exactly what it said but eventually after deleting/driversweeping/restarting a few times .. a combination of them worked out for me.

The second issue I had was with installing new sound drivers, my headphone jack stopped working completely and I had to reinstall the ones that came with the computer.

Other than those its been running nicely. ^.^

Prototype runs better at 1650x1200 than what it was set at originally 1280x800. Strange. I upgraded to Dx10 though, maybe that made a difference.

I have read that the Turbo button is suppose to overclock the GT725-212US approximately 10% - 15%. That would equate to 2.2GHz - 2.3GHz right? Mine is only going from 1995MHz to 2075MHz when I toggle Turbo. Could someone with one of these laptops tell me what they are getting? MSI tech seems to think I should be getting at least 2.2GHz. They're researching and are suppose to call me back tomorrow (I bet). Originally told me to flash my bios from v1.0s to 1.0u. Did that but still get the same results. Sounds like I might have a defective laptop. Sure hope not.

listen if your getting 10699 3D Mark, then I'd be pretty happy. I've read but can't verify that on the 210UK the Turbo increases the CPU overclock by a pretty small margin. I should think for single core apps and games your not going to see big steps.

PS your desktop rig has a pretty eye watering 3D Mark score. Those i7 CPU's are pretty dam cool.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very pleased with it. :) The more I think about it the more the 10% - 15% Turbo boost seems unrealistic. The Q9100 is 2.26GHz. Doesn't sound prudent to have an oc at or higher than the Q9100 at the touch of a button. Maybe MSI misunderstood themselves when announcing the turbo's features of the GT725-212US.

Yes the i7s' are really cool and will be around for a long time. Mine is the 'c0' stepping. The latest and greatest are the ones with 'd0' stepping. Use less power which means less heat which means a higher oc.

ive had my laptop for couple months and have been dealing with random blue screens that come up every once in a while (happens maybe once a week). what happens is regardless of whether there is a program running or not or how hard it is working the display will start blinking on and off. when it happens theres a little message at the bottom saying something bout the display driver messing up. after the bout the 5th or 6th blink blue screen comes up and pc restarts. when using windows to search for solutions says need to update display driver. so i go to the device manager and try updating the display driver through that. says my driver is up to date. when i check the ati site for an update, im not able to find the mobility radeon hd 4850. does anyone have any suggestions?

why you want to overclock your cpu from 2.0 to 2.4 and more?? do you realise that programs you download they use only the one core?? if you study computer engineering and science you will find more info about guad cores..And dont say my about the end task where you can see the usage of each core. You need to program the cpu ! BUt if ur sick with overclocking just to have big score on 3dmark ok ...
    lol

Follow Lambo's guide in his signature Syvyl and you should have no issues updating your drivers. On the actual device manager you have to uninstall like his instructions say.

My 3dmark06 was 9863 with turbo off and gaming mode on and my GPU set to default on the 9.6 drivers. No need to overclock anything.. Plays everything just fine. :)

FO3 has finished downloading and has put everything else on the back burner. I did have the freezing glitch and I used the quad-core PC fix as given on the Fallout 3 Steam Forums. FO3 automatically set me at "ultra high" settings and it runs amazingly. :) Very happy with it without even having to overclock anything!

Lenarass - As the computer world continues to advance more and more programs are utilizing the capabilities of the quad-core machines. GTA IV is one of these that already utilizes all 4 cores to run the game. There are multiple programs on the market right now that are starting to take advantage of quad-core pc's. I personally want to pick up a QX9300 and put it in this laptop. I believe a 2.5ghz quad-core would really open this baby up even more. I'm sure 11-12k 3dmark06 scores would be possible and multi-tasking would be a breeze.

And to whoever it was that thought the quad-core was going to overclock to 2.2-2.4 ghz.. No it's not :(. I thought the same thing and I was excited then I come to find out that it only overclocks to 2075 mhz. More than enough to handle pretty much everything out there right now. However as soon as the qx9300 extreme mobile processor comes down from it's ridiculous $1200 price tag I'm going to pick one up for this thing. :)

Yeah, like twistaye said, at the bottom of my signature theres a guide. What's happened is, our card is in a grey area, where the manufactures say it's MSIs responsibility, and MSI say it's ATIs responsibility. What we do is take ATIs drivers and MAKE it work with our card, which is essentially what MSI do.

All the current information we have from MSI says 4% max overclock on the quad core CPU. This is exactly what you are getting from your numbers above. 4% overclock normal on the quad when using the turbo button to overclock. Previous models with dual core CPU's would overclock 10%-24% depending on the installed CPU.

Well for one I'm a soldier in the U.S. Army and I'm all the time moving around. A desktop isn't as practicle for me as it is for some people. While I am going to build a desktop, the laptop is one piece of hardware that is going to be with me wherever I go. I couldn't bring a desktop to Iraq with me, nor would I really want to. I take it you have no idea what your GT725 can do? You do know your computer has an HDMI port and you can hook up your 32" TV onto it so long as it's an HDTV or has the proper ports? You can hook up a wireless xbox 360 or PS3 remote to the computer and play just like you're on a console - with much more computing power and much better graphics.

The HD 4850 card will power your 42" HDTV (which is what I have) to 1080p without any issues, and our quad-core PC is more than up to the task.
