-
Easy there hehe, there are some great tools like that available
Although ill stick to my brute force driver shoving until it works tactic.
I can actually install the GPU driver..LOL
Im about to hit 64bit, that should bring all to 5.9 in windows experience except the 5400HDD which sits at 5.6
Will upgrade in the near future.
Windows 7 hit 7' on some things hehe. -
hey i use x32 vista home premium and my pc hit 5.9 exept theHDD
why?
its 320wd 7200rpm sataII
what i must have? -
My machine came with a poor hdd, granted it runs as cool as ice cream
Your lucky you have 7200 rpm
Ive just completed the install of 64bit vista (the oem key works with this =) )
Installed all drivers,
Maybe some software.
Now i am running defrag and will optimise my machine soon enough! -
i am lucky??? al msi gt725-212us doesnt came with 7.200rpm hdd?
-

No, some come with a 500GB 5400RPM drive which is likely either a seagate momentus, or a Western Digital Scorpio Blue...if it's the Scorpio Blue its actually pretty surprisingly close in performance, the Momentus less so.
-
Exactly,
i hope SSD go big mainstream though, that would be cool, and if there cost dropped, would be awesome.
For the advent models we have 250gb toshiba drivers, there ok i guess but some more speed would be nice
Might try my hand with 8gb of ram. -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Well the Intel mainstream SSDs are due out in the next couple of months, and they're meant to be heavily aimed at cutting costs
If you want more speed now, consider grabbing a WD Scorpio, the blue and the black are both a nice bit faster than the toshiba from what I've seen, Black is available for £50 for 320GB, and the blue has 500GB for £60.
The Black IS faster, but the Blue is surprisingly quick for a 5400RPM drive, so either are valid choices. -
ok i have wd 320gb 7200rpm and my score on windows experience is 5.6. If i have 500gb 5400rpm what score i would had?thanks
-
I have a 5400rpm HDD and i get 5.7
Guess i have the fast one then xD -
I got the same 320GB 7200 and get 5.8
By jaxmacfl at 2009-07-19 -
you have the Q9000 in yours right? cos i get 5.8 for my processor!
I guess windows experience index is not the most reliable lol
my friend got some ddr2 ram running at 800, replacing his 667, and it the index went down lol -
Here is a better pic.
By jaxmacfl at 2009-07-19
The reason the harddrive looks so small is the os is put on a 44GB partitioned C: drive and D: gets the rest of the 320GB. -
oh i just read your 3dmark thing and i see you do have the Q9000.. i wonder why i only get 5.8
-
Hey, I'm having a bit of trouble with my MSI, its an awesome laptop but now whenever i try to connect to my lcd tv with a hdmi cable i get the blue screen of death
anyone got any ideas why this happens and how i can get rid of it? thanks
-
yeh i'm not sure if i have high performance on.. i will post back when i have run the experience tool thing
Edit: Just tried it and now all my scores are 5.9 except my HDD, which is 5.7 (which is awesome for a 5400rpm) thanks JaxMacFL!! -
Biggest understatement of the year. I've been wondering why there has been a conversation on this topic.
-
I just saw some screenies for arma2 on steam. Looks almost as good as Crysis. How does it run on the GT725?
-
noooo arma2 is !! like crysis ?? LOOOL ..install it..you will see
-
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/8315/95218377.jpg look my friends... why i take 5.6
(( all stuff are in msi stock.so what you see on my signutare are my default.. heelp
my hdd drivers are 2006 date:// i dont know..
-
??? help pls look my other post with my printscreen -
My HDD scores 5.7, its a Western Digital 320gb @ 7200rpm.
Its my CPU that drags my score down though, 5.3 it scores. Does turning the turbo on increase that score? -
Here's mine:
-
It sure does, but even at 2.88 my P8600 only hits 5.6... still the weakest link. Good thing (1) I could upgrade to a Q9100 as soon as I'm out of warranty and (2) WEI means absolutely nothing
-
I wouldn't be surprised if upgrading the CPU didn't void the warranty. I just got an email to say that replacing the thermal paste doesn't void the warranty.
-
I just re-ran the windows experience test again with turbo on, and my P8600 @ 20% oc got 5.6 from 5.3. Pretty good.
-
we have exactly the same laptop with wd 320gb 7200rpm. how you take 5.8 in hdd ? i take 5.6...you have better drivers? oc smthing?? help me
also we have to replace the thermal paste regularly? i mean once a year its good? ok it depends from the use of the laptop but say 5-10 hours per day?
without oc q9000..thanks -
I second that question. I'm looking at replacing my thermal paste with Arctic Silver 5 that I bought some time ago. Does anyone know if AS5 goes off after a certain period of time? And do I apply it to CPU and GPU? And how long until I have to reapply?
-
And if I may ask nacr05, what was the deciding factor in your decision to buy an M17x? I considered the same thing, but decided against on the grounds of portability.
-

Like most thermal pastes it can seperate a little. If you've had it a while, I'd suggest squeezing out a bit of the tube, as what tends to happen with the pastes is you'll get a layer of oil seperate away. Once its back to looking like normal colour and consistancy you should be fine, you may find you really don't have to squeeze much away, depends on how long you've had it; if you're that worried, go buy a fresh tube of AS5, OCZ Freeze or Tuniq TX-3 as sometimes peace of mind is invaluable
.
You can apply it to both GPU and CPU, both run pretty hot; and decent thermal paste is nearly always going to be better than stock paste (sometimes in the region of 5-10 degrees C, although usually closer to 5), and you don't NEED to reapply it, unless you break the seal by removing th heatsinks again, or if the first application goes badly (too much, bad contact, air bubbles locked in etc)
A small half pea sized blob should be enough, as effectively you want it to fill in any tiny gaps, and give as much metal to metal cover as possible, you DON'T want to have a massive layer of paste in there, it will make things worse, the pressure of the heatsink on the CPU SHOULD spread that tiny amount of paste out over a surprisingly wide area; as it's only meant to fill the tiny cracks for metal to metal, not create a real layer between parts.
Artic Silver 5 does have a recommended curing time (basically be using the computer then letting it cool, to allow it to be heated and cooldown repeatedly etc) of approximately 200 hours before it reaches its best temps.

This article has some application suggestions that might help you
-
Thanks dude, whoa thats a lot of typing! The only thing I was really worried about was it separating, but I'll try your suggestion.
-
lambo!!! make a video tutorial about your thermalpaste applying pls
))
-
I second this, ive never applied thermal paste in my life
<< Dude is this cool or what

PSP as a second display or slideshow gadget display
over USB -
Sweeeet! i could really do with something like this.. although i dont have a PSP and really need one tbh. Do you think you can you get small screens that can connect through usb?
-
hmm, well the frame rates are really fluent on this screen, and i know you can get external USB screen/box things if i recall, so yeah, it should be possible.
Problem is driver signing in vista is buggy so it needs de-activating each boot
If you find one let me know
I could use an external small screen for say thermal temps etc, usage, memory all sorts. -
LOL its fake..YOU CANT TRANSFER video from usb aahahahah
you just have a wireless conetect to psp which is login to that webside looooooool
very funny -
Want a video lena?
Its not fake, there is a display driver now released for custom rom and so on, this is my old PSP i jumped in a swimming pool with :/ it barely works but this has allowed it to shiiiiiiine.
Haha! -
you are telling me that you transfer video from usb ??? i never heard that//anw .i had a psp too and i sold it 100pounds..its a grap.better to playing with my 2years mobile phone.anw i was learning my computer to hear me before 1 minute.there are some applications in control panel.. i sit back and i am saing start and the start menu appeare..fuun
-
one tip, having done this before is to cut out a small piece of thick card with a square cut in the middle about 75% the width of the CPU head. This way you can smooth over with a credit card the right amount of paste. It is possible to apply too much and make a bit of mess, or too little, which would be very bad. I've fried an AMD 64 due to this. The trick is to get even distibution in the middle of the CPU
-
Hey guys, just picked up this laptop, however theres is really bad screen flicker. Is this on all laptops or is this faulty?
Its really bad when comming out of sleep or when the light is set to dim. Burning the eyes!! -
Sounds like a faulty screen to me
-
oh and has anyone had any problems with the 9.6 drivers when connecting an hd tv, because i just plugged in my 22inch hdtv and usually, it goes straight to exteneded desktop at the correct resolution, however i have now tried it 3 times, and both screens stay black, and then eventually it shuts down (not blue screen) and then starts up saying 'windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown blah blah'
-
This is weird.. i have a 500GB 5400rpm and mine hits 5.7!! My processor is the weak link at 5.6
-
btw lenaass
cheers for the heads up re that driver software and the other bits.. My laptop works even better than before.
Oh and also an apology for the post i made about you a few pages back.. I'd had a few too many Czech beers
-
Yeah len, i believe the PSP does the screen work while the USB transfers instructions, i may be wrong though, but since USB 2.0 is about 48meg realtime transfer, i suppose it could be rendering via usb, quite good for an old PSP eh?
-
Just pre-ordered Windows 7 Home Premium E for £44.99 xD
-
Nice buy man
Price is actually pretty sweet on w7, i may do so also. -
