Guys windows 7 drivers released official 9.7 mobilities :D

    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx

As for the drivers at hand,

Im having a switch screen delay when alt tabbing, only 1 second, feels like it freezes strangely like its about to die but then resumes operations :S.

But, eve online is showing a 10% drop in activity for the 4850 running at the same frames i did before i changed drivers, this is pretty nice :)

Seems the card is using hardware well, and temperatures are really good.

If you have a GT725 you don't have to flash your BIOS to change OC settings, just use alt+ins in the BIOS and go to the advanced tab.

If you don't have a GT725... then go away... JK, then you have to flash to our BIOS. I have done a BIOS flash for an update, and although it wasn't worth it, it worked. What issues are you having doing it from the USB drive?

Okay, I'm running dual boot with Vista32 and W7RC64. I've had great luck in dealing with drivers in Vista32... I've used 9.4 and 9.6 with no problems. However, when I try to update my Windows 7 drivers I've had no luck. You'd think it would be easy since ATI is releasing mobility drivers for W7, but the list of cards I can choose from when I try to install it (from the device manager after uninstalling old ones) doesn't include the 4850. I see the Mobility 4670 and 4870 on the list, but nothing in between. I've tried to force installation as a 4870, a desktop 4850, and a desktop 4800 series renamed to a mobility 4850 (as I do in Vista32).

Now, what is my problem? Is it because the drivers are for W7beta and I'm running RC? I'm at a loss.

I had exactly the same problem last night and it's weird cos the Mobility 4850 appears in the inf file but not on the list of selectable drivers.

Hi don't use Liveupdate it's rubbish

Go to http://forum-de.msi.com/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=78156#h-9 and download the msihq tool under section 4

    *
    MSIHQ Tool 1.18g Stand Alone.rar (1,48 MB - 8 mal heruntergeladen - zuletzt: Heute, 08:48)
    *
    MSIHQ Tool 1.18g Installer.rar (2,01 MB - 10 mal heruntergeladen - zuletzt: Heute, 09:26)
Dont worry the tool itself isnt in german and it's very easy to use. It's also got a 100% successful flash rate.

I used the procedures cited in this link:

    http://www.msicomputer.com/support/sup_tshoot.asp

Scroll down to "BIOS Flash/Update procedures using Floppy Drive and Bootable CD NEW!" and click on "How to flash the BIOS Flash Drive".

This will open a .pdf file so adobe reader is required or something similar. The MSI techrep said that in "Step 8" instead of typing "Example A -> A:\ > AFUD412 A7376AMS.140 [Enter]" and "Example B -> A:\ > AFUD4281 A7522IMS.820 [Enter]" just type "DIR" to identfy the .bat file and run it.

Worked just fine. I'm now running bios v1.0U. :)

There isn't any "extra OC settings" that I have seen or heard of. The 4% Turbo boost to 2075MHz is all there is.

Oh, my flashdrive showed up as "C:\" when booted to dos.

Okay, finally got 9.7 working with Windows 7

    Win7 64bit + cat 9.7 + 24% turbo + 550/900GPU = 10798 3dmark06

New record for me by 75 points... so I'm pleased.

Here's the weird thing... I don't know how. After trying about 4 other methods, I just decided to go back to the old drivers and when I started "Update driver" in device manager, I had an option for a mobility Radeon 4850 from 7/2/09... I thought it was the newest MSI one, but then when I checked in CCC, it showed up as 9.7 beta...

Hello, i was wondering something about this computer, is the heat exhaust such a problem for a right-handed person? Or is it not so bad (even when gaming) ?

Also, is there anything i should be aware of before buying this computer? ( customer service, any potential issue etc...) ?

    Thank you

The heat doesnt effect me at all. The thing that annoys me is the placement of the headphone jack, which is right where I like my mousepad. So now I have about 2 inches of space that is being taken up by my headphone lead coming out.

ok, i read that the fn and ctrl keys are inverted, is it hard to get used to it, or it's not so bad? I guess you can stil redefine your keys in game so shouldn't be a problem...? can you use the fn key to crouche for exemple?(I don'T know what fn key does so that's why i'm asking)

    @Frank

You can't use FN in game... some get used to it, others use a BIOS mod to switch them.

As far as the heat exhaust, I simply have mine a little farther back on my table/desk so my mouse is more toward the frond of my computer... it's not really an issue.

I disabled my windows key the other day. I kept hitting it accidently when I was trying to press control in games. Annoying as hell.

I've just noticed another issue. Im not sure if it has to do with the cable or not but when I plug my hdmi cable in to my tv and the power is plugged in, it doesnt work properly and glitches all over the tv and on the laptop screen. Works perfectly from battery though.

    Anyone else tried it?

I'm right handed and don't have any problem with the heat. It would be a problem on your lap, but it's a gaming laptop so I use a hard back book underneath it if I do.

The FN key is for extended funtions such as screen brightness controls volume, Home, End, disable touch pad control, a god send if your typing, as I keep catching my right palm on it! It's a very cool machine, and has quite rightly become a big success for MSI.

Put it this way I've owned an Acer, Dell, Sony, Samsung, and Mac Book and this machine beats them all hands down. I wouldn't even swap it for a new Alienware or Rock Elite with SLI. The machine is really impressive spec, much lighter than anything else in the same class, and is super value for money.

Sure there are machines costing twice as much that will perform at 50% more frames, but for at least the next six months or even a year you won't see many games that will cripple this machine. It is mighty!

good :) Then I'm sure of my choice :D I'll try getting used to the fn-ctrl switch, and for the games thing, I,m not too worried, I think it'll last at least for the year to come for nice graphics, and the one after I'd just decrease the graphic quality in-game.

    Thank you :D

You can do the firmware mod and then switch the FN and CTRL keys around, they pop off without removing the keyboard, it took me 5 minutes to do it. If you want to I will be glad to help you..

Any chance you can hook me up with the FN combination to cut off the touchpad? I've been trying to figure out for a while how to cut it off, lol.

Been playing FO3 for like 32 hours now, trying to get my hands on all 4 of the DLC's (and hoping MZ will be out soon :)).

Unfortunately GFWL is the only place to legally download and of course it doesn't support Iraq.. Go figure. So I have to order the actual discs off Amazon which will take 2-3 weeks. Sucks!

EDIT: I see, FN+F3 disables the touchpad. Really helps a lot when you're typing to prevent randomly clicking the touchpad and moving your cursor. :)

I believe they are 8.57 Kaz :) Good find never the less, ive updated strangely from 8.56 now to 8.57, it has detected they are an upgraded set off drivers, so hopefully this will resolve some 2d clock slowdown issues i have been having :D

Welcome to NBR by the way, i dont think i've noticed you here before.

HOLY CRAP!!! I didn't check the forum for 5 days and theres like 10 pages of posts!

@jnovello, what you're looking for is called Intel Matrix Storage Manager.

Seems I need to upgrade my tut for the graphics card drivers to 9.7... I'll do that in the next couple of days, as well as posting a tut on how to replace the thermal paste. (Did it last Wednesday, worked fine!)

So far, replacing the thermal pastes has made the GPU 3 degrees hotter. Maybe this is just cuz its in the breaking in period still, I'll keep a close eye on them anyways.

Also, anyone wanna test out 9.7s for Vista 32?

    See my signature.

I haven't had a chance to try my modded .inf files on any OS yet. I'm waiting to see how my thermal paste will affect temps, and I fear updating drivers will confuse the results. Hands, anyone? :)

BTW guys, i think your signatures are too big..

i got an email from someone telling me that i can only have 4 lines of size 2, or 8 lines of size 1..

as per the forum rules apparently:
    Signature Size Limits

All signatures should not exceed the following size limits:

    * For text signatures: 4 lines normal size, 8 lines small size (when viewed in the Notebookreview.com style) and up to 90 chars per line. Font sizes above 2 are not allowed.(Blank lines count as lines.)
    * Do not use images with large text to bypass the previous item
    * For images in signatures: 1 image up to 350 pixels wide, 125 pixels tall and 25k in size
    * Animated images in sigs are not allowed
    * IP trackers are not allowed

can you get banned for this..? surely not?
