Hello, I have a question for an owner of a gt725 with a 1680 X 1050 screen. I'd like to know what temperature the GPU reaches after a gaming session. I read on notebookcheck that mwith Furmark, the maximum temperature they reached was 98°C which is so ******* hot XD, Is that the kind of results you get while gaming :O?

seemed too high or too low? Cause I don't think tha 30°C is too much for the palm rest(it's even colder than body temperature)

I think that this laptop is the best choice at the moment if you can t buy a sli/xfire

@lambofreak thanks for the reply. I found out the super easy way that the 32-bit Vista drivers work for my 64-bit Windows 7. Now I'm interested in the tut change. I just installed the 9.7 beta drivers and everything seems to be ok. Am I missing something there?

dead right, there's nothing beats it at the price and weight and spec.

The Win 7 free upgrade applies to any Laptop purchase after June 25th with any retailer that is signing up to the upgrade. There's a £20.00 stock and postal fee.

Not unusual for the CPU temp to reach 100 degree for a mobile. Shut down temp is 119/120 so can get pretty hot :)

argh i'm still having a major problem when connecting my hd tv to the 725 via the hdmi port. Both screens go black, and occasionally they flash back to normal (the 2nd monitor acts as a clone), but as soon as i set it to extended dekstop, both screens go black and stay black for about a minute, after which it either crashes and restarts (no bsod) or does a bsod.. saying windows has encountered an irreparable hardware problem. I have read some other forums with people who have the same problem with the 4850, saying that when they oc it, it crashes, and the fixes they use involve flashing the 4850's bios.. which i really dont want to have to do. So basically, i assume that this problem is due to the 9.6 driver, as i have been able to use the hd tv in extended desktop mode many times before i changed to 9.6.

Has anyone had a similar issue, or any help? I dont plan on flashing my card bios, so i think it may be best to upgrade to 9.7 or rollback to original maybe.

If anyone can expalin the bios mod for fn and ctrl swapping i'd be greatful

im used to flashing bios' and all that .

Ideally i want a modded version of the 1.0S bios (if you actually amend that)as that has worked best for me out of all of them...

    cheers

you could use the recovery disc you burned the first time you turned your machine on... if you did burn them... with these you could put you laptop to its original state.

I've already ordered my W7 upgrade. You register your laptop, printout and fillout the form, provide a copy of the proof of purchase (order invoice, I printed out mine from Newegg) and mail them in to MSI (address is provided). Soon you will have a upgrade order link there when you log into the MSI 'Welcome to Product Registration' page where your registered laptop is listed. Mine was $9.99, which covers the S&H cost. Here are the terms and conditions for the free upgrade.

From what I've read each W7 will include both 32-bit and 64-bit options. :)

can also just insert and boot from your OS CD and run the windows disk format in advanced options. You will also be able to set partitions and so on.

Thats great, they work with 32bit, phew! In that .inf file that you're trying to use in W7 64bit, after it says 4850 mobility, it probably says ati2mtagR9X8 or something. Change that to ati2mtagR7X, and all will be sweet.

I didn't think it would work with W7 64bit... It wasn't designed to, but hey, if it does, thats a plus :D

Definately buy this laptop. After owning various gaming laptops, this is by far the best in every way.

What do you mean are you missing something? If it works ok, thats good.

What you need to do is find a friend with a Vista 64bit disk (it doesn't have to be Home Premium), boot from that, and delete your current partition, and create a new Vista one. Make sure you backup all your photos/music whatever you want kept.

Hmmm, one thing I've noticed there is that the 3870 and 3870x2 have a different ID number; however it seems the 4850 and the 4850x2/4850Xfire being installed in the AW M17 have the same Hardware ID. Wonder how that works then... hmmm

There are way more 4850's floating around than 4870's... AFAIK no laptop has ever been sold with a single 4870 and the only one with 4870x2 is no longer being produced. I don't see why we aren't getting support.

Its not acutally supposed to be ati2mtag_R7X, its supposed to be ati2mtag_R9X8, or something, but if there are no hardware settings for the latter, we have to use the former, which I think is basically exactly the same anyways...

Hmm im not sure about the w90, there high in stock around UK sellers to be honest, and at good price.

    Some may still be produced.

The M17 is now being supplied with 4850, ofcourse they haven't ironed out the drivers yet :S but they seem to not have the Hardware ID of any of the desktop drivers, so its not as simple as modifying the INF like us.

ok maybe I posted too soon. I was asking Lambofreak if I was missing something to try and get higher frames, but now I am getting a total freeze in COD WAW that leaves me shutting down completely. I never had that before on this thing. So now i am wondering is it the new catalyst drivers or what?

hmmm... that may sound like a new driver problem. What OS are you using again? W7 64bit? If so, I had a few games suddenly inexplicably crash in that OS. I don't think it's completely finished yet. And newer drivers don't neccessarily mean higher framerates, I'll use 9.5 as my latest example. I just google 9.7 tweaktown, they do a comparo between the latest driver and the one just gone on a range of ATI cards.

I second that. I've just gotten used to the Fn and Ctrl keys where they are but would like to go back to the usual configuration, and if they don't mind, I'll make it into a tutorial and include it in my signature (the one with the thermal paste is coming soon). I think that to make this keyboard perfect, MSI would have to swap the Fn and Ctrl keys themselves, and backlight it, or at least change the colour of the F1-F12 keys, you can never see them in the dark.

This is doing my head in, they need to fix the site!

Im having issues with extended display over HDMI, screens just turn black and computer no longer responds :(

Going to try 9.4 drivers hopefully as i have good experience with them.

frustrating to here about COD and your weird HDMI problem. So far I've had no problems. But I only a play a few games COH and FO3, DW2. They seem all to play pretty stable, and I don't seem to get too high temperatures.

I have a 3 way HDMI splitter going from 360 Pro, PS3 and Blu-Ray player to my Panasonic Viera Plasma TV (best f**ing picture I've ever seen) + n-router wi-fi and resender throughout the house. So I'm spoiled for HD :)

Guess I'm just lucky with my 9.7 drivers?

Im using 8.57, i can extend display with vga (or i used to be able to) i will try again soon,

All games stable and cool running, its just this issue now.

Also im not willing to manually mod inf's, our hardware id code doesnt appear on any of the desktop drivers (944a?)

Were mixing drivers with hardware its not suppost to support, and its not m9x either there m7, we need some new catalysts.

Im gna try vga again or call hardware support, other people dont seem to have this issue.

Well i didnt have this issue before i updated to 9.6. With stock drivers, i was able to plug in an external monitor to my hdmi without any problems. Its just annoying that we are the only few people that have this problem. All my games run fine and my temps fine, so this is the only issue. Hopefully 9.7 can solve this.
