Yeah so it seems ok. I just opened it up to see if anyone had messed with it and there are finger prints everywhere. I wonder if someone tried something, because this unit came from a MSI rep. It was his to demo so I got a really good deal. They ate still offering me the ASUS G-series, but I'm holding out for the new MSI. Why are these all discontinued already?
Did anyone find out if this chipset can handle two 4Gb sticks? I'm 2 seconds away from buying them off newegg for $300 and a new 7200rpm 500Gb Seagate for $120.

 

Mine's an Ex-Demo too .. i'm getting very low scores too compared to others .. anyway as long as my games works perfectly i don't give a sh!t today i've noticed something in the "detailed performance and information tools" it says my model is a GX720 ! ! ain't it supposed to be a GT725 ?????????? can anyone check theirs and let me know plz ! and also that sealed vista booklet didn't contain any fcking DVD !

 

Yeah I was pissed off when I didn't find a Vista DVD in the package as well. Yours shouldn't say GX720, look at the file I've attached, it says GT725.

Thats weird dude. I'de be getting on to MSI about that one. Yours actually scores higher than mine, so theres no way mines better. Your comp has the GT725 sticker to the left of the touchpad as well?

its simple..remove the battery and you will see a white stiker..read what it say its your model.also with these numbers i can say you when your laptop was manufacured

6.4 Graphics
6.4 Aero
5.6 HDD (5400RPM TOshiba drive..wadya expect )

At present only have 64bit version of vista so its at.

I remember that there's a tool that lets you change the windows score to what ever you want.

 

How does your graphics get 6.4 anyway? Mine only gets 5.9

 

i'm on w7 64 bit that's why they are higher so don't call em yet and yes there's an ugly grey sticker which says gt725 .. but why the fck it says Gx720 in performance & ..... + my low scores = i'm not a happy man right now

it does say WHEN it was manufactured but it says it's a gt725 (serial num) i reset it to factory default (vista 32bit and all ) and it also said GX720! ALL CONFUSING RIGHT NOW

in w7 the highest score is 7.9 (vista is 5.9) . anyway 6.3 no OC'd and 6.4 on 550/900 .. and if you put ur cpu to 24% you will get 6.7 in the ram score

 

my hdd score in vista 32 bit was 5.7 , 5.8 in w7 64bit (5200rpm by the way) and everything else the same as yours (mine is a p9500) .. so similar scores to a quad hmmm



Are you guys mobo a 1722 ???

 

Mine also says GX720, altho i am getting normal scores and everything runs fine, so i'm really not that worried if it thinks i have a gx720. Also, Lambo what bios are you using? because that may make a difference. I havent updated my bios yet (if it aint broken, don't fix it so maybe that is why it is different.

Im pretty sure Windows index tests partitions as part of it, my score would shoot up if i split my partition in half i recon, but my model is a 1722 from a UK reseller (well 1722/725 combo) so the components arent as good as yours hehe

But indexing is pretty poor to be fair, its not really good comparison.

Leave it on 1.0S... I was not happy with T, I actually found S and flashed back to it.... haven't tried U because I decided BIOS flashes weren't worth it.

 

The only reason i would want to flash my bios is so that i can use clockgen or a similar program (if i cant through the bios) to manually OC my cpu, but as there arent any games that really require it atm, i will leave it.

another great review for the MSI GT725 in 'Total PC Gaming'. Beats all other 17" laptops up to £2000 for overall value and features in there review.

They were particularly impressed by the Quadcore, 4850 combo, hi spec and generous hard disc space, particularly with games that take advantage of this spec such as GTA IV which actually gives better frames per second than it's next rival costing £600 more.

PCMARKVANTAGE seems good too, but iv enever used so ill give that a shot.

try it without overdrive it should work nicely was having the same issues as you .. it crashes down on deepfreeze or deepice whatever it's called anyway some gpu crap
yer not bad ,my max fps was 48 something in gta4 .. now it's getting down to 45.38.......

I've been using bios 1.0U for about a month now and haven't had any problems with it. In fact I've never had a freeze or bsod since I bought this laptop (knocking on wood). I got great scores with it. What is the alledged problems with 1.0U?

 

Yep same here, moved to 1.0U when I first got the machine and not one freeze or BSD. Everythings running pretty sweet.

 

i have flashing screen too but only with F>>>>>KING w7! when i use vista home premium (origianl one) run perfect..!! try it..the notebook is perfect..the screen is flashing coz if w7 /tested

 

That gt725-212 wont be able to play games for long with scores of 7 in gaming.

Its flash clocked for benchmarks

But as for the rest, i get 7s for the quads and ram

 

I just tried to flash mine with U, but it wouldn't boot from the usb. I guess it doesn't matter cause i realize that mine must have shipped with U already on it. So I'm still stuck with the freezes. Yay!

Stability wasn't the issue. I benchmarked Crysis before and after I flashed my BIOS for the first time. 1.0T dropped my performance by at least 0.5 fps. I know it's not big, but for no other appreciable difference...

really? have you tried the "fix my usb " optiion? I have swapped back and forth loads of times.. weird

 

I'm using the stock bios, like you said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

 

Are BIOS updates really worth it anyway, I mean, unless your comp is freezing non-stop?

Use these .. it will definetely work use the 1st option and point it out at the version you want to use , then it will tell you to insert a usb thingy ... from there it's a blast ...

UPDATE : flashed to 1.0U .. benchmarked gta4 and saw a tiny gain in 4 to 5 frames , streetfighter 4 benchemark score from 8231 to 8308 ..
PCMARKVANTAGE 64bit from 5711 to 5933 !!!!
will do some more test tomorrow
