Played fallout 3 over an hour with 550/900 and turbo enabled without a hiccup. I love this laptop.![]()
-
can you tell me the server on cod waw to play together?also i only play cracked
-
atikmdag has recovered crap : UT3 , Bioshock , condemned , gta4 , pro Evo 09
No atikmdag crap : Farcry , Farcry2 , Deadspace , Crysis , Assassin's Creed(wish it has crashed ! what a sh!t game) , Gears of war , Timeshift , Doom3 , Fear & expansions , KOTOR2 , manhunt , SM pirates , scarface , Halflife - HL2 - ep1 - ep2 - lost coast - Portal , Stalker SoT , TR Anniversary , Bully and others (too many to write)
haven't tried fallout yet hopefully i will be having the same experience as you
-
I get the ATIMKDAG errors too, at full clocks i cant complete 3dmark06 or vantage runs
Apparently its CCC's fault, people say uninstall it but then how we gna overclock lol. -
i think i have the best score? http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/187/94259354.jpg
-
Ive hit over 6480, will re-run the test later but at the moment, could you run this program and let me know what your d2d score is?
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/CrystalMark.shtml
Just click the mark button and it should do it all for ya. -
same here
some says disabling aero will do , or uninstalling some windows update .... but i personnaly think it's related to overheating , i could be wrong .. coz i tried everything
all that's left now is changing thermal paste
uninstalling CCC is pointless .. just disable overdrive
-
Anyone with a GT725 equipped with a P8600 mind posting their 3DMark Vantage score?
I'd like to see what scores people are getting with current drivers. -
Overall Vantage score 5159
GPU Score 5900
CPU OC'd 20%
GPU OC'd to 550/900 (just for benchmarks) -
Could be, on 3dmark06 when it atimkdags out, i see quick artifacts on screen that relate it to memory issues, prehaps some of the blocks arent covered, need to look into this ^^.
-
i did memtest and all .. didn't any issues
anybody running the PASSMARK benchmark thingy ? my score is 1450.9
and also passed the BurnIN test without any errors -
ok i just uploaded what you want.also i found crystalmark 100 times better than vantage 3dmark because 3dmark scan the pc on 1280x1024 resolution. when i put it on 720p i get P 0 score lol..crustlmark run at 1920x1200 which is the max resolution..my oppinion.so what about my crystalmark scores?

AMD == fail (for everything linux, except for pandering to freetards by releasing specs! Kind of like Phenom II v. anything recent by Intel, excepting of course AMD also fails at power utilization as well as price and cputation power now as well...)
Answer your questions?
[EDIT]
FDisplay driver has stopping working crap:
no overclockign all standard clocks
AFAICS it's likely crap game engine plus crap AMD drivers seeing as they can't get their sh!t together for a halfway decent X driver we can hardly expect them to have a stablewindows driver...
makes me say buh-bye AMD=fail, Intel will say we're looking for you in the rear view drive mirror but youyu're so far behind that all we expect to see from you again is more regulation agency whinging while nVidiA SAYS well hype only gets you so far without driver support(entire lack of by AMD for linux, flakey for windows)...
[/EDIT]
[EDIT2]
lush green grass of nVidia for me only inthe future boys and girls(are there any?)... as I've had it with the bloody red mess of AMD and their whining... (since they can't compete otherwise o any sort of level...)
[/EDIT2]
[EDIT3]
Did I mention AMD=fail?
[/EDIT3]
[EDIT4]
Expect Comrade "Moral" Dragon 1.5 before long as some Chinese state owned(like they all are) electronics company snaps up failMD before long... (likely courtesy of spend like a drunken sailor(on crap made by foreigners) failorama)
[/EDIT4]
[EDIT5]
*pause* for freetard & faillorama rantings
[/EDIT5]
[RANTING aside]
atikmdag looks like AMD will be joing nVidia shortly, and I doubt that AMD has the cash to survive mobiel GPU fail...
NEVER EVER another crap AMD product for me... even back in PIV days they just weren't that much better...
(Worst thing is that crapMD can't rightfully blame their 3rd party mfg for a crap process as they make their own crap in house(or did) ...
[/$&^*&#^#*&]
[EDIT5]
MSI needs to move their high end notebooks to nVidia parts, and keep AMD for the bargain basement... I still can't see how nVidia manges toprovide quality drivers for as many OSes as they do while AMD can barely provide a working windows driver... (I desperately need a dropin GT280m MXM...)
[/EDIT5] -
Well now you can... (I can say that now because I finally got around to writing that tutorial)
-
I dunno, I haven't tried it with the 9.7 drivers since Thursday, and it was fine. Like you said, its not temps, because mine is only ever around 75 degrees, hardly crashing temps. The game it happens in is Race Drive: Grid.
-
lol i feel your pain. I have always had ATI and linux support has always been beyond abysmal. Only once did i get my x1700 to work flawlessly in a mint distro. (then it promptly had to reconfigure due to an upgrade in kernel) for 1 week it actually worked. I got my desktop to work ok but its an X850 pro nothing new. and i use the open source not the official drivers. I had hoped when AMD announced linux support last year change was coming. but the only thing i have notices its still an hour 2 hr job just to get it marginally working.
however so far the ATI 4850 is an awesome card for a mobile part. stays much cooler than I expected. Nvidia parts tend to run a bit hotter. ATI is generally a smoother card where the Nvidia has the higher fps but more of a spike in fps between low and high. I always picked ATI just because I went with ATI over NVidia for the screen quality back in the day of the Matrox/tnt/rage days. and since i know how thier cards work i just stick with them. is Nvidia better? I have no clue. but I know Nvidia has its share of problems too. dunno if i would call it the lush green grass though. sounds a bit delusional if ya ask me. I will agree with ya on the Linux part though. -
Sorry, but this is rubbish ^^
When nvidia base there gtx280m off a 2006 core, thats fail,
When nvidia release a whole serie of graphics card prone to fail and hide it, thats fail.
The fact that ATI mobile sector cards are based off there desktop cards, thats win.
Ati drivers are fine, if you can read the tutorials to install them thats fail.
Apple have announced dropping nvidia for a while.
ATIMKDAG Is a rare issue, caused by OVERCLOCKING mainly, so if it dont work, then who cares, its not designed to be pushed regardless.
I will be real p**sed if MSI move, i believe there notebooks stand out due to the power of the cards these day, AMD are definately doing well, (hopefully there mobile platform releases will really help too!)
Ive seen more nvid crashes then ati so far xD, watching people rant about there nvid display driver crash sure is funny.
I love both makes, but i prefer voodoo more, but there dead now so theres nothing i can do.
You want to overclock them? Flash them then, its the same as using ccc, this card can be pushed passed its stock desktop parts.
Counter complaint complete. -
Two things the GT200 series ARE in FACT based off of the 2008 GT200 GPU, and not the G9x/8x series architecture. Just like the mobility 4XXX seires are based off of the various 2008 R7xx versions. (I also think that you must've missed the Tom's Hardware articles and benchs from several weeks ago, GTX280m > GTX260m >> mobility 4850.)
Second, nVidia drivers actually work well on more than windows.
atikmdag, hmm... 500/850 those look like stock clocks to me. Nope not overclocking related. (I already know enough to usually not to bother trying to overclock ATI GPUs since they usually don't have any overclocking headroom v. it's pretty standard to overclock nVidia parts by quite a bit and get stable card. Sheesh the OEMs do it by default...)
@redlance
I usually buy nVidia parts, but decided to give ATI/AMD a try this time. Unfortunately I made the mistake of letting them get their chance on a nb instead of a desktop where it'd be easier to exchange GPUs. I've never had driver problems with nVidia that wer endemic to the driver. The worst problem I ever had was quickly fixed by an updated driver from nVidia who released not too long after the "bad" release unlike with ATI where we always have to wait about a month and even thenpray that the bug is fixed(haven't been under linux for me).
I really feel sorry with the people with not so old cards who are pretty much stuck using the OSS drivers(if they're using a recent linux distro or kernel) as the 2D using the OSS drivers may be OK, 3D is still lacking and the situation grows worse as you go from older -> newer (R500) cards. Pretty much 2D only for R600 700, but at least the proprietary drivers kind of work for those.
Anyways, here's a list of my problems with the linux catalyst drivers since 9.2: (confirmed by at least one other user although they failed to mention their hw IIRC)
Freeze on video playback after sleep
Freeze upon awaking with compositing enabled(compiz/beryl)
Screen corruption: black rectangle drawn on screen "fixable" by forced screen refresh
Failure to restore screen resolution after running fullscreen app - intermittent
Virtual terminal displays are corrupted if resolution in X changes
Some relatively obscure opengl support problems that I won't bother to detail as they're mostly triggered by wine
(The top two I'd like to see fixed sometime this century...)
And here's the only one that they fixed: (9.4 ot 9.5)
Screen flashes when running windowed opengl app
According to others:
Multi monitor support is flakey at best if not outright broken
Crossfire is flakey at best or broken
Crossfire is completely broken when integrated & discrete GPUs exist
No support for linux kernel > 2.6.28
I've never had noticeable problems with nVidia drivers & GPUs. Actually the recent closes thing that I had to a problem with an nVidia card was actually a buggy LCD panel EDID and/or the inability of X to detect supported resolutions other than native.
@lambofreak
I'm not sold that it's a hardware problem as everything seem fine under linux. Don't have the disk space to try and run drakensang under wine ATM, and I'm not even sure that it will run under wine but if it does maybe I should check...
OK last appdb update is a little old, but it got a silver rating under wine, just have to find another few GB to install. (Damned game is unbelievably LARGE for what it is, budget CRPG that shows). Anyways said video didn't work back then and some graphical glitches but maybe enough to test under linux to see what happens.
Anyways as to further recent nVidia hw: I intend to build a new desktop before long, but I've decided to await the release of LGA1156 core i7s before buying anything, although I suspect that in the end that I will still go with the i7 920 LGA1366. (AMD has nothing close to core performance now or in the forseeable future.)
As to video card original intent was a GTX260-216 (maybe GTX285 now), although I don't know now if I should delay even a few more months yet so that I can just pick up an nVidia DX11 card or not. (I HAD been considering CFed 4850s or 4770s but after my GT725 experiences dropped AMD from consideration.)
I'm not really expecting problems, but I know to skip ASUS as they apparently have a habit of trying to tinker with nVidia BIOSes which make them, apparently, incompatible with the generic nVidia drivers. Probably just stick to an eVGA or XFX or some other OEM that doesn't meddle where not necessary...
atikmdag re-visited: Just remembered a Russian guy wrote an app that is supposed to test GPU memory in a fashion similar to the way that memtest+ check system memory. I'll try to dig up the link. I can't even recall much about it ATM, e.g. name of app, author, etc. I still think that it's hitting a code path that isn't well handled by the ATI drivers though... possibly triggering the Vista watchdog function.
and here's a thread of some semi-useful info about the atikmdag problem
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/240960-33-atikmdag-stopped-responding-recovered
basically summarizes pretty much what I'd been able to track down elsewhere. -
what started this ati vs. nvidia thread? i thought it was meant to be the 725 owner's lounge... oh well my bad.
as for the issue of overclocking.. all of the cards are unique, so some will overclock better than others, its just luck of the draw if you have one that can be pushed all the way without any problems.. the only problem i get from maxing the oc on my 4850 is 3dmark06 crashes.. but since 3dmark is being faded out of benchmarks.. it doesnt matter. Also.. you make out that Nvidia is perfect? i had a 9800gt in my old(er) desktop, which gave me no end of trouble, in the end i built a new pc with 4870x2 and i don't have any problems, and guess what.. the drivers work. So enough of the ati bashing.. if you want to do it, i suggest you pick a thread that isnt made up of people primarily using an Ati HD4850.
Rant over. -
i oc 550/900 and playing cod for hours without problem.maybe people who oc and have problems its because the gpu bios is old? also i run vantage oced without problems! and catacylsm whats going on ? i send you a printscreen ..? http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/5573/58675283.jpg
-
They don't really under linux. The bugs listed above are just a small fraction of those that exist, but the ones that cause most people trouble as they tend to impact features that people like to have. These are also bugs that lead to data loss, as most of them are not recoverable w/o a reboot with the "best" "clean" way out being ALT-SYSREQ(PRTSCR) + RSEINUB which hopefully semi-gracefully kills all running user processes, synchs and umounts the partitions then boots...
Also, we were discussing the atikmdag problem that has appeared for some of us now. In my case I'm running standard stock clocks on everything with my only change being upgrading to catalyst 9.7 from stock shipped drivers, but I only did that since the atikmdag has stopped working started appearing.
The TDR Vista/Windows 7 function is the watchdog that I was referring to above. Apparently it's possible to disable it via registry key which I will have to tyr next time that I boot to Windows(shouldn't be long now I have just put the nb to sleep a couple times now and will inevitably forget and try to play a video or be directed to one by a web page).
So, IMNHO this is every bit as relevant to this thread as all of the overclocking and benchmark results are. -
Actually lenaras, thats a good idea, get me your 4850 bios version, ive just thought.
ATI have no headroom for oc you say?
Inaccurate, a 4850 overclocked trashed a 280m overclocked in benchmarks, by atleast a good 1k....
Can you get me the toms hardware link please, its pasted all over the net that the 2 serie cards for mobile are shrunk die, and buffed up clocks with a few extra unified shaders.
TDR can be switched off but its not reccomended.
Multimonitor is running perfect, make sure your running desktop ccc using mobility modder.
Both desktop and mobility are based off the r770, thus why its possible to flash to desktop clocks.. -
because my notebook was manufacuted on paril 2009 i have the last gpu bios which are 30/01/2009. no problem to post my gpu bios but how i dumb them?
also again catacylsm you told me to run crystalmark and printscreen you my results..and i dont have answer?
-
Ahh sorry man, been quick reading, crystalmark seems sound, seems our d2d score seems low though? For a card of this class but them scores are in par with mine so great
How do i find out my bios version lenar? I would really appreciate that because we may have a fix soon
Let me re-run the crysmark test for you. -
oh sorry ..you said bios version not the bios file
so maybe that printscreen helps you! Also which is the best resolustion to run 3d vandage to get maximum score?
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/1594/10381296.jpg -
Awesome cheers man, comparing now.
Run your screen at the settings of vantage (so performance mode is that 1280 res size, run at that)
Im going to run some benches now.
Lenaras, your apserlutely right!
Your bios i believe is much newer then mine, i shall contact AMD immediately to see if mobile hardware is the exact same as older and newer versions of the card.
Theres my info. -
cheers
also if you know how to dumb my bios i can send them to you
and really i o/ced 550/900 and i run vandage and playing game for hours without problem.but i return to stock because cod is playing perfect with stock clocks.
can i ask somthing?
ocing to 550/900 i can see better graphics on game or i i had lag now i wont?
thanks -
I got the same bios version as lena .. and i still get the atikmcrap
you can extract it using gpuz i think
-
can you please tell me what do you mean by saying atikmcrap ? to double check it..i dont have any problems with full oced (cpu and gpu) but i use lastest bios and drivers
-
"Display Driver has stopped working and has successfully recovered" you won't get any msg in windows7 ! it appears only in vista .. in w7 while laying games you screen will just freeze or a sec or 2 but won't dispaly any message ..
i'm using 9.8 , and everything else is up to date -
when i overclocked 550/900 i used vista:/ u using the vista that comes with your laptop or you made a format ?
-
i'm using w7 (clean install , delete and format the entire hdd and all ) .. vista suck big time , i will never go back
i guess ur the lucky one .. some people got it some doesn't .. it's not related to any OS .. -

GPUZ and Scores
ATIMKDAG can also be related to ram, a vista hotfix and so on.

Thats someones fix. -
Something is going wrong.how u have quad core with clock :CPU Speed 2297 MHz ??
-
The advents bios supports unlocked overclocking
But either way gpu score cant get pushed anymore, unless i decide to flash clock it. But i would want to replace thermal paste first
I need 9.8 drivers!
-
here's the link to 9.8 http://blogs.amd.com/play/2009/08/1...r-a-quakecon-blog/comment-page-1/#comment-976
it should be out by monday anyway -
Cheers man.
-
oh you have true its adverst and it cost 500usd for the quad that i have :// omg i have an expensive cpu
-
catacylsm YOU WANT to dump my gpu bios ?
-
Hey everyone. I was wanting to know how to properly get CCC and 9.7/9.8 drivers working, I had them working but now CCC wont open.
These are the steps I were doing,
1. Uninstall driver and all ATI stuff
2. restart and run driver cleaner
3. then install the latest ccc/ati vga support off msi website
4. then extract newest 4800 series drives to c:ati for mobilitymodder to mod, then mod the files and install, should i just be using the driver download, or the ccc/driver/wdm driver to modify.
and also an unrelated questions, how easy is it to get drivers for WIN 7 64 bit, and im refering to everything not just vga drivers, and is it really worth it at this point, thank you all -
umm so I'm playing Fallout, Dawn of War 2, Company of Heroes, on 9.8 win 7 64 bit. I've set CCC to 500MHz and 855Mhz, and so far totaly stable, temperature around 54c in test.
I've not tried COD4 and a number of posts are refering to the game freezing. Are you sure this is an OC/temp problem and not just the game.
Interestingly this is my second MSI GT725. My first got very hot and eventually failed after 2 weeks. I wonder if there is some diffenrence in machine build. -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Haha lucky git, the M17 4850s dont have overdrive enabled in BIOS; perhaps because they're the 1GB variants. Im itching to try and overclock these things just a little on the core, to improve performance.
-
I just did 1,2, 4
the ccc from the 9,8 drivers works fine and thats for vista 32 and w7 64 -
would you recommend win 7 64 bit or vista 64 bit over vista 32 bit for us
my ram seems like its really used up alot not even while gaming..
i didnt know if you can still get all the drivers on the 64 bit counter parts -
Drivers aren't an issue at all. As long as you've got a spare couple of hours to search on the drivers CD, you'll be fine. I've got where to find the drivers for Vista 32 and 64 in my signature.
As for the whole nvidia vs ati thing, I'm with ati. And as for the guy coming onto this forum and knocking ati, you couldn't have been more stupid. Do you go to Japan, and start yelling out at the top of your lungs that you hate asians? No, that would be stupid also. -
You planning on replacing thermal paste I hear cat? Let me know how it goes.
-
so are vista drivers for 32 and 64 equilvent for 32 and 64 windows 7, and in your personal opinion is 64 bit worth it for us caus emy ram usage is at 30-40 percent idle
-
They aren't the equivalent, but they work fine. There are only very small changes with the drivers between Vista and 7. Your ram usage will always be about 1gb at idle using Vista, less if you are using 7 I beleive. Making the decision to switch between 32bit and 64bit is easy: if you ever run out of ram using 32bit, switch to 64bit, simple.
-
Has anyone changed the thermal paste using the new tut? I just wanna know if everything goes smoothly using the tutorial.
-
can you tell me your idle temp amd your max gpu cpu while you play pls?
