Just tryed a couple of things that didn't work :

    - delete all pcmcia and 1394 files in windows folder
    - run chkdsk
    - disabled all BIOS function which are not necessary (SMART, AHCI, USB, Blueray, Speedstep...)

Could you slipstream across to the ultimate disk service pack 2?

I know one of the versions of windows did have issues when installing to all 4gb of ram, but i cannot remember which.

Does anyone know how to overclock the q9000 in the GT725Q using SetFSB? Any hints would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

You have to flash the bios to the GX720 bios, as the 725 bios is locked.

I will look if i can slipsteam SP2. Yesterday i have installed Seven 32bits and no problems with it (it's only 64bits version which cause problem).

I'm also in contact with MSI customer service, maybe they will provide some help..

    For the Q9000 overclock, I don't think it's a good idea, @2075 it's already getting too hot (10°C more than @2000Mhz)

Is that idle temps? because it shouldnt go up 10C from 2000 to 2075mhz.. mine only goes up 1C. And considering that the max operating temp for the q9000 is 100C, there is still a fair bit of room for overclocking (to 2.4ghz would be good).

    My CPU temps are :

    Idle :

    44°C without turbo
    52°C with turbo

    In charge :

    70°C without turbo
    84°C with turbo

14°C for a 5% overclocking, isn't really good. Even if the CPU can handle 100°C I don't want to stress it for a poor overclocking. Anyway I'm interested in knowing your temps with the CPU@2400Mhz

For the SP2 slipstream, I don't think it will solve the problem because the ones who have problems with 4gb memory get a BSOD on boot which isn't my case and I have the same problem with Seven 64.
After 2 days using Windows Seven 32bits, I'm getting in love with it, so if I can get Seven64 working on my laptop instead of Vista64 it could be great too ;)

Well i havent overclocked it to 2.4 yet as i am not sure if i want to flash the bios.. as the turbo/eco buttons may not work. What programs are you using to get the cpu up to 84C with turbo?
My temps usually range from 50ish on idle up to 75 under load, sometimes 85 when using Prime and other benchmarking programs. I also find that i dont even need turbo on in most games that i play (gta 4, arma 2) but i use cubase and other music production programs so that extra 75mhz helps when recording and encoding.

I used the turbo button to overclock my computer so it's only a 5% overclock.

I made the test with 3d studio max with a 25min render.

To be fair, a 5% increment isn't going to do anything. although the temp rise is abit hot

I agree, atleast use software to budge it to 2.2, but other then that, i can think that strangely the system is shifting voltage for the overclock.

I use blender 3d, and this laptop has impressed me a lot with render times.

I thought of something useful though. When I'm using CAD programs or browsing the net or using excel, I put the windows power scheme to power saver. It is still quick enough to do these things and if I want the extra juice, just change to performance. Best thing about this is that the GPU idle temp has now dropped from 50/52 to 44/45 degrees!!! Awesome temps from a powerhouse video card such as this one.

Hey and if anyone wants to buy a touchpad protector, I have one ending in 5 hours.

Also, would anybody object to me creating a thread about this? I mean, its not like I make much money out of them, I only charge 5 Australian dollars each (about 4USD). But I think everyone needs one, especially those who have just preordered a GT729.

Yes this laptop is good for rendering ;)

For the o/c i'm not interested in it, I just made some trys to see the temps ;)

I see that you're using RAM@800Mhz Catacylsm, this is not useless if the proc isn't overclocked ?

The higher the Mhz psylo, the faster the ram will be :), for overclocking though, they say try achive a 1:1 ratio with ram and front side bus speeds.

I though the RAM and the CPU must have the same frequency for best performances.

So should I set my RAM to 800Mhz even if the CPU isn't o/c ? why MSI sets it to 667Mhz by default ?

667 would theoretically extend the rams lifetime as its not using it to full efficiency, so i can see why MSI would do that, sometimes lower ram when overclocking works really well too, but its definately 800mhz ram.

    6-6-6-18 on 1 stick,

5-5-5-15 i think on the other,

6 Is evil, it drags performance down for the fast ram.

Yeah they came with ram, but i dont think its the same, we get cr*p ram with good timings, but the make of it is completely hidden, although believe it or not, the new ram is made by hyundai :p.

    Thats a car company haha.

As for the problem with 64bit operating systems, im still convinced its a problem related to the ram, prehaps if we try and configure the northbridge it may kick in, i know that lenarass had a problem with his os adressing all of the ram.

During boot up, get into bios, turn off ahci (as they reccomend) and press fn ins or alt ins and so on in the advanced bios tab, and go to northbridge configuration, try and set the memory hole to 15-16?

Ive read on some websites that this can have some impact so its worth a shot.

Yeah thats true, although im not in agreement with the fail latencies, the ram is very stable and has adapted with the mixed latencies very well, the system has overclocked the main latency (is it cas the first one?) to 5 which is good, and i've had some smaller 15% overclocks happen nicely on it so im pleased for now.

It's a great machine, as stated by the magazine and internet press alike there is nothing else on the market which can match with all the features, build quality and styling at the price.

Sure there are others around with some of the features, but nothing that throws such a potent combination together.

I've taken mine on the train gaming, and had a few admiring glances and comments while playing COD4 and Crysis.
