Hello guys wondered if you could help me been having difficulties with watching bluray movies. used the bundled software that came with the laptop (corel) which worked ok for a while but then it needed to update the license which failed came back with some strange error and no one at corel came bk to me with a solution so uninstalled that and used power DVD 9 ultra . It plays blu rays fine but for some reason while watching bluray films it keeps jittering for example could be watching a film for half an hour then it stops for a few seconds then starts again and then stops and then starts again really annoying it’s as if the disc reader forgets to spin the disc or something. I have tried 2 films and it has done it on both of them. Has any1 had these difficulties? Could it be my player being faulty or the software? Currently I am feeding blu ray movies from the laptop to the TV via an hdmi lead has any1 got any suggestions as to why the laptop is doing this. Is there a setting or driver that can fix this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like either you are not plugged in while playing Blurays (which you probably should be)... have to be to finish a movie I'm sure.

Or, something is running in the background. Virus scan, etc. I don't have the bluray model, so that's all the help I can give.

thank you for your response i did try closing any running apps like antivirus software but to no affect + made shore things like screen savers and power saver options were not hindering it but i cant see anything else that might interrupt it + i made sure things like cables are all plugged in securly.

I got WinDVD 8 with my Laptop for my Blu-Ray. I never got anything from Corel. WinDVD 8 has been working fine for me, the only issue is it slows down a bit and kind of lags slightly if I minimize or maximize the window then it will resume normal play. I've played through several bllu-ray movies using it without any hiccups besides the one I just mentioned. It's free-ware so I'm sure you can find a download using google quickly. Try that and see if it helps!

I'm on the 212US version just for the record. :)

I <3 Lambo for making life easier :)

But yeah As for the blueray, look at your HDD indicator to see if thats going off on one (then it will be windows garbage/update/defender doing something)

Go to GPU pannel, power thingy and set it into high performance.

Go to power settings and set it into high performance.

Make sure your not on eco?

Maybe the new program is just a bit bad?

Well actually blu-ray isnt all about high definition video.. it was designed to supersede the dvd as a larger storage medium (a blu-ray disc can hold 5 times more than a dvd).

Its not all adverti sing ;)

hello guys thanks for your input and advice really appriciated on my bluray problem have tried what your said catacylsm but unfortunately still have the same problem I have a theory it might be a dodgy copy of win dvd is there a good free blu-ray player software you can recommend as powerdvd ultra is really expensive for what it is. As for downloading HD content you have to be kidding lol my internet is absolute rubbish suppose to be 8mb broadband get 80kbs download speed if I am lucky lol.
I do agree thou that downloading content is the way of the future but are decrepid copper wires just cant handle it yet and until BT upgrade the network discs are the only way for me and a lot of people.

    Blu-Ray + Netflix + 60" Sony = Heaven.

My PS3 spends more time playing Blu-Ray movies than actually gaming these days. :)

I still don't have a need for a Blu-Ray drive in my laptop(s), though, nor on my desktop at this moment.

Updating the dashboard doesnt take that long unless your connection is *****, the update is roughly the same as some of the larger 360 updates.
You're also aware a lot of the updates go on in the *background*?
    Stuff like multi-audio output?

You also generally dont need to create disc images on the PS3, it was added to the Xbox as a way of speeding up load times, as several newer games are very heavy on texture caching and mid-game loading (see Fable 2 for example) however a lot of PS3 games are reasonably optimised in this point anyway, not to mention even with the PS3 games that install (yes some do) you cant take the disc out with either machine anyway. The PS3 has a net browser which the 360 doesn't, has some reasonable exclusive games (ie Demons Souls) and game load times vary dependant on game.
Seriously, different machines that do things differently, I have both, and both are fine. Game prices are similar on both machines.
My PS3 is quieter than my 360 too which is nice.

Before you say anything I actually have more games for my 360, but both machines are fine, and do slightly different things.

Yeah i second what alex says, both are different for purpose :)

And the ps3 only should have 1 long initial load, then the rest is fast, but then again blueray is so huge to be fair.

Well, i havent tried it yet to be honest. im running win7 32 bit right now.

but i really want to try to intall 64 bit, i guess i cant remove a memory bank becouse then i break my warranty

so what about if i disable ACPI what diffrence does it make? i want to be at least 90% shure that it works, becouse i dont want to spend 2 days backing up everything for nothing........

    Hey guys,

I just recently got a steal on an X9100 ($400), and wanted to see if anyone has been successful in modifying the BIOS or finding a software app that easily allows you to change the CPU multiplier. This baby hits around 3.8 GHz with 24% FSB OCing, but I'd like to see what I can do with the multiplier. As of right now at stock 3 Ghz I hit around 80C in games, so it's safe to say I need better cooling before going TOO extreme.... btw I have an NZXT cooler, I hate this laptops cooling solution - it's pure dog.

I'm pretty sure you would need to flash your bios to the GX720 bios, altho I don't know if that gives you control over the multipliers in the bios, all I know is that it lets you use software overclocking (such as SetFSB). As for the cooling, what did you expect for a (relatively) slim laptop that doesn't weigh much. Sure, they could fit more fans in and more heat pipes, but that would sacrifice portability (and yes I realise that some of us use it as a desktop replacement, but at the end of the day it is a laptop and therefore should be completely portable).

Granted it's a laptop, and should be portable, but I am more than certain that a dedicated fan for each CPU and GPU (one more fan) wouldn't add a noticeable amount of weight. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of notebook manufacturers incorporate 2 fans... but anyway. Yeah, I have heard about the GX720 BIOS allowing software OCing, but no one has mentioned a multiplier change... only that you can change FSB settings through S/W (and that it also forces RAM speed to 800). If it allows me to change multiplier, that's awesome, but I guess I will have to check it out.

compared to other laptops the gx700 series cooler setup is extremely efficent, and not to mention the blower is massive for the size of a laptop fan. Laptops themselves arent meant for massive overclocks, it sounds like youre doing pretty well and way beyond the actual bios limitations for the other msi series laptops with quads. as for the gx720's ocing ability, the bios itself doesnt have specific ocing options that you'd expect from a desktop bios, instead its one option to choose the oc percentage and another to choose the ram speed as either 667/800 or auto, 800 being the best to use for faster ram, as for the overclock, basically it seems to pump the fsb a bit and as a result the ram gets pumped also with my setup, my t9400 goes from 2.51 to 3.11 with the 24% oc, and my ram jums from ddr800 to roughly ddr1000. insane in terms of gains for memory performance.

flashing to the other bios, will only help if you can find the earliest verison that supports quadcores, as somewhere around h that was implemented, though the later verisons cap the max oc so the proc doesnt overheat everything else.

my suggestion is if you really plan to push this laptop, get the blower to run at max rpm, and drill out the other half of the holes at the bottom of the blower so it can get maximum intake. as a blower should.

As another alternative, you might try and polish the heatsink a bit to get better conductivity.

Well i've just got skype so i can talk to my mates from uni, but the webcam is being a right ****. Sometimes, i can sign into skype, video call some1 and it will work fine, other times it will come up with 'unknown error' in the video settings and video calls also display an error. Have any of you guys encountered this problem?

I havent updated my webcam driver (if there is an update), but i have read in other forums that sometimes other applications can take use of the webcam which means skype cannot utilize it.

    Any help appreciated guys

Great recommendations Automatikjack. Let me at least preface this all by saying I am not sure what you mean by quad core when responding to my post. I originally had the low end P8600 Core 2 Duo, and I now have a X9100 Core 2 Duo Extreme (still a dual core CPU).

I've actually already completely removed the little aluminum grills that are glued to the plastic as to get the maximum intake as I can. I already also attempted to lap and polish the heatsink - which wasn't an easy task mind you. Especially the GPU, because you don't have one completely even surface to work with, especially considering the thermal pads that aren't the easiest things to remove.

It's quite possible, as I mentioned about 300 posts ago in this thread, that I just got a lemon heatsink / fan solution. I am able to play games such as L4D / TF2 / WoW / CoD WaW and CoD4 just fine. In fact, the CPU helped loosen the bottleneck that the Mobility 4850 has in this machine with the old processor. I keep a close watch on CPU / GPU usage % and in CPU intensive games, it was quite obvious I needed to upgrade and so I did.

Currently I can hit upwards of around 82-84C in intense games (pretty much always maxing settings out). While this may sound insane, the Thermal Specification (TS) for this CPU is 105C. Obviously running a CPU close to the TS decreases the life, but what can I do? It's running at stock speeds. I'll try to polish the heatsink using a higher grit sandpaper and possibly use a different thermal paste. I am using the paste tested as the best by HardOCP in their Thermal Paste Shootout Q209 called Shin-Etsu X-23 7783D.

I had a Dell XPS M1710 or something like that and if you had an extreme processor, it unlocked the option to change the CPU multiplier. I know all the MSI OCing options within the BIOS such as changing the % of overclock via the "Turbo" button and changing the RAM frequency - I was just hoping someone out there had found / added the option to change the CPU core frequency.

I was running this puppy at 3.8Ghz with the 24% OC option alone.. almost 4GHz in a laptop is insane... I will just have to keep it cool. Time to look into a TEC (Peltier) solution I guess. Nothing else will be small enough to reasonably fit in a laptop. And I will have to use an external PSU. Basically it becomes a very very small desktop, but hey, it's about having fun :).

5 series drivers were released today, so who knows, I guess we should expect an update soon. Would be good, and heres hoping the 59.97Hz under DX10 issue gets fixed.
