I wasn't paying attention and just realized I qualify for the Win 7 upgrade through MSI. Went to their site to register, but they want me to send a hard copy of receipt, plus $9.99USD for the disk.

Probably won't see the disk until around Black Friday.

You can do that anyway with bridging connections and an ad hoc setup broadcast setup?

They say : "The software differs from the ad-hoc Wi-Fi mode that's been available in Windows for many years, because it appears to other computers as an ordinary wireless hotspot, and doesn't require any special configuration"

sounds good so far but getting it to work is another thing

Yea, shouldn't be a problem, but I had one final thought. When I switched my system from Vista 32bit to 64bit I had a similar issue. After an exhaustive search for a missing mass storage driver, I ran Everest and found out it was the O2 controller I needed. All that time I was searching for something else.

Just for giggles, try running Everest and see if maybe what your missing isn't what you thought.

Had the same issue , I guess we all do when switching from vista to 7 .. Anyway try the o2 again (Both 32and64) . It should definetely work ;)

win7 is backwards compatible with 32 bit drivers from vista as well as 64 bit drivers, there shouldnt be much of a difference there for drivers, and in most cases win7 will have generic drivers. a good rule of thumb will be to write down all of the devices before reinstalling. if theres no luck there try using the gx720 drivers, they should use the same O2 memory card controller.

You welcome ;) .. It's for the "infrared" thing which we don't seems to have :p

EDIT : We actually DO have an infrared port ! it's on the lower front of the notebook ! turned it upside down so many times and haven't noticed it ...

The Consumer Infra Red reciever is for handsets, ones for media centre tend to be quiite popular.

    Wait. What?

I may be a little fuzzy on the finer details, but MSI is only charging $9.99 for shipping.

As I understand it, if you preordered, you just got a code to submit to MSFT and could download Win 7 when it was released. And if you wanted a hard copy they charged the fee. If you ordered the upgrade after Oct. 22, you pay the fee and MSI sends you the disk.

Only students that didn't qualify for a free upgrade were being charged $20.

I don't have CoD, but if the game has a built in CD check usually a cracked exe to remove the check won't work online.

If you buy through Steam you get a digital copy of the game to download, and since its through Steam there are no CD checks.

Lucky stiff!! I submitted my request online to MSI, and the site said it would cost me $9.99 for shipping. The confirmation mail that MSI sent to me requested a copy of my sales receipt, to be mailed to them in CA, along with a copy of the confirmation email (sheesh, talk about jumping through hoops). Then I'd have to wait about 2 business days for them to "process" my request.

    I suppose I'll get it someday. :(
