These drivers work GREAT! I've found that sticking them on 5.1 and un-checking all but Full & Surround gives it a more of a bass sound. Thanks for the post.

EDIT: Found out that it might give me more base when I'm testing in Realtek, but actual stereo sound comes out REAL CRAPPY! Went back to stereo.

I use quality headphones and earbuds mostly and I just set the driver to Stereo and check the headphone virtualization box after alot of experimenting.

    I don't have THX installed.

Yea... I have a couple of high quality headphones and earbuds so that isn't a problem. However, when I'm chatting on Teamspeak and don't have my phones on I can tell a very noticeable difference. It's times like these that made me switch back from 5.1

Well I bought a gt780dxr 277us the other day. I did it as a sideways upgrade from My Asus G73jw. Here is some of my impressions under regular use. My Asus was dead quit Msi not. You can hear the the air moving at all time. Not too bad but Asus was just great how quiet it was. The Msi is style is gaudy compared to the Asus but the Msi does have a better form factor. I think Asus took a step backwords with the g74 by going even bulkier. If Asus had a machine out that matches this Msi in performance I would have bought it. The things I dislike about the Msi are the crappy touch bar across where the power button is. I dislike any lights. So I opened it up and popped all the led lights out with a screwdriver even power button light. I hate these touch bars Asus was so right to get rid of it on the G73. I also dislike the front hd,bat, wifi ets lights on the front. Who wants to look at a flashing led light. Either the machine works or not. I painted over them for now to hard to get i there so far. I think I will grind the front out a bit and epoxy over them. I painted the speaker grills black. I dislike the silver and the chrome accents almost as much as I dislike the glossy black finish around keyboard. I do like the keyboard lights and options I will use it a bit for gaming. I wish these companys had half a brain and the keyboard light up on start up so I can put my password in.

Asus just spoiled me with style they used with the G73. Just so clean simple and dark. I just wanted it to evolve into something leaner and meaner and I hope that's what there next laptop will be. First thing I did with the msi is added a corsair force 240gb ssd and a extra 500gb 7200rpm hd in caddy instead od a dvd drive. It also has the 750gb Western 7200rpm. The machine vibrates more than the Asus does but the Asus does seem heavier and a bit more sturdy at the expense of more bulk. I dislike where Msi put the power slot in the back in the middle. Its bad because sometimes tilt the machine for whatever reason and it sucks for . End up pulling the wrong wire.

I like the performance of the Msi. The sound is right with the THX studio and the sub woofer blends in really nice unlike the Asus. I am on the fence about the matt screen. The only part I am not liking is the sheen it has on it. It's like it is taking away from the clarity. I am trying to figure out something I could clean it with like a wax. That could polish it into a surface thats more clear on the outside but not glossy.

Did you remove the plastic piece covering the 2 mic holes on the backside of the LCD frame to the left of the camera for use in teamspeak or do you use a different mic?

@Ken, still loving the laptop, however, did you ever get this webcam issue sorted out? I'm living over seas now, and skype suddenly became a big part of my life. I would really love to have the quality MSI advertised and sold... Thanks again!

The performance of the webcam is dependent on the software the requests it. In other words, The latest Skype support 720p webcam, so it will operate in 720p; If you use an older version, it will operate at lower settings.

Yea... the mic works great. It's the sound from other people talking that is a noticeable difference. I think it's just the way the driver processes the sound. No worries though, the Stereo selection works good.

Glad you still enjoy the laptop. :)

Like xMAR99 said it's depends on the software you are using. Attached is the screenshot MSI sent me using ArcSoft Webcam Companion software that supports 1280x720 format:

Ken... Your Arcsoft Webcam Companion Capture is branded MSI. This leads me to believe that MSI has it's own version. Where can we get it?

For those who use Skype and you want it to send out HD feeds from you, you could use a software like this to force Skype to use HD.

nodewave Force Skype HD Webcam Video

But take note you need to have a fast upload speed and an equivalent fast download speed on your recipient for it not to stutter.

I ordered mine from the U.S. because the prices were way too high here in Canada. On top of that to avoid UPS high rip off brokerage fees I used a third party Canada Customs Broker www.baycitybrokers.com which should help any fellow Canadians on this blog. Hope this helps!

What you'll need to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit the way I recommend.

    USB stick 4GB or larger
    Windows 7 Ultimate ISO

Download the Windows 7 Ultimate x64 ISO
    http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-59465.iso

Unpack the Windows 7 Ultimate ISO onto the 4GB or larger USB stick using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

After the files are on the USB stick open the files and expand the Sources folder. In there find ei.cfg and delete it so all versions of Widows 7 x64 can be install from a single USB stick.

Remove all hard drives from the notebook except the hard drive you will be installing Windows 7 x64 on.It optimally should be in the primary drive position 0 on the SATA bus.I you got your notebook with only one hard drive that drive will be in position 0.

Doing this will insure that a MBR is created for the installation drive.

Make sure the bios is set to ACHI.
    _____________
Now your ready to install either Windows 7 x64 Ultimate,Professional,Home Premium or Basic.Install the version you have a key for.

Put the 4GB USB stick with Windows 7 x64 in a USB port and press the power-on button.Quickly start pressing the F? key on your notebook that allows you to choose to boot from the USB stick.

The 1st sceen will be for keyboard layout>OK
    Install Now>OK
    Licence Agreement>OK
    Custom Install>OK

A screen that has disk utilities and Driver Installation should be showing.

Click on the Disk Utilities.A screen will open where you can view all partitions.

Format all partitions that are showing.

Then delete all partitions until only one large full drive partition remains remains. The total space and usable space should be exactly the same.

Windows 7 will now begin to install.

During the 1st reboot in the Windows 7 installation process remove the USB stick.
If you don't remove the USB sticks the installation process may start from the beginning after the reboot.

    When W7 install finishes install:

This is not what is considered an issue but rather a fact of notebook gaming.

You will lose about 75% gaming on battery.

Don't expect it to. The battery cannot supply enough wattage for your laptop to work at full power.

This is a universal truth with all gaming laptops.

There's just not enough power put out from the battery to run most games, especially the graphic intense ones.

Even with the AC Adapter plugged in the needed power brings some adapters to their limits and they get so hot that they're very uncomfortable to touch.

My GT780DX with 16GB of DDR3-1333 ram and a hard drive gets about 3 hours of web surfing on a full charge.

With an SSD I get over 4 hours.I probably could get better if I reduce the ram to 8GB or even less.

Yes lets draw 150-180 Watts from the battery and watch turn into molten slag.

Since it's around 78Wh then that's only 25-30 minutes anyway even if it did work.

When you unpack the downloaded .zip file there's release notes of improvements and bug fixes for the 9.3 group from alpha versions up to this relelease.

Hi, I recently bought the barebones version by Deviltech and I'm having a problem with the sound. Turns out the Deviltech guys don't care about their customers once they've paid €1300, so I'm asking you guys instead:

How do I remove the keyboard from the GT780DXR? I can remove the control bar as seen in this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi...0r-gt780dxr-owners-lounge-25.html#post7609991, but the keyboard is different from the GT780R version and there are no screws.

By the way, this is the problem I'm having: Deviltech Fragbook - vibrating/rattling sound - YouTube

    Thanks!

Which model do you have specifically? I assume you have an unbranded barebones 1761 unit, which does lack in some cosmetics, features, firmware, and warranty. Perhaps try some threads dedicated to the barebones units, or maybe one of our helpful resellers here can assist. Rob of RKComputers specializes in these units, but I am sure any of our resellers could be helpful. Their contact information is listed in the lead post of this thread. Ken..... Rob..... Justin..... Donald?

I hope you find some assistance soon, and Happy Holidays!

    :)

yes there is no screws for the keyboard on the barebone versoin. once the control bar is removed, you just need to use a small flat screw driver to pull the keyboard up from the top edge of the keyboard.

test the speakers with keyboard removed to see if it's the cause of the problem.

Does the range of the Centrino Wireless-N 130 seem absolutely horrid for anyone else? My current laptop, I get full bars from my room to the base, but with this new MSI, I barely get one bar and can't even connect unless im in the same room as the base. Very disappointed.
