Only for Dual Channel. You can use memory in single channel mode / it's not a requirement though.
So for the sake of testing you can have an odd number of DIMM's.

I need a new charger, anybody know where i can get/order one?
-
@mearyoleon, you could try any of the resellers here I think they could source you one. I remember GentechPC has an AC adapter posted in their website, check it out.

Ken, is the backpack and the gaming bundle headset & mouse included in the package already? No need to redeem it like on the previous promotion?

@ken, you need to make a video for that
I want to see how this runs on BF3 -

Nice!
Are they available in limited quantities?(AKA Limited Edition?) -

So same situation as the 570M then.
Stock = underclocked
Turbo = stock -
I really want to pull the trigger on the GT780 but I have been reading so many horror stories regarding the keyboard. I've been using the keyboard on my Asus G51 which I've been spoiled with. They really don't get much better on a notebook. I've also read some horror stories regarding MSI's customer service. Does everyone have keyboard problems?

I also just picked up my gt780dxr-279us. I am above average when it comes to computer knowledge, but I was wondering which ways i can optimize my laptop.
i downloaded MSI afterburner, but im not overly sure how to use it properly. i would really like to overclock the CPU and GPU, but have never done anything like that before...any help would be great -

(Crysis 2, Ultra, 1920x1080 plus high res texture pack / everything maxed out)
-Much much better. Big improvement from the SF-19.
Should P1 + those frequencies you listed be safe for long term gaming sessions in a demanding game (on a high end cooling pad like the SF-19, with TurboFan on)?
Also, since it sounds like you've done some benching at those clocks. Could you give us an idea of the types of temperatures that one should expect (with say 70F ambient) at an overclock like that?
Thanks. -
EDIT: ran afterburner/kombuster for10 mins.....P1 w/ Core 720/Shader 1440/ memory 1800....no turbo fan...cooling pad only...maxed out at 72c -
The SF-19 pretty well requires you to be next to an outlet though. So yeah, definitely would be curious what your temps turn out like.
By the way, if you're not running them -- the 290.36 and up verde drivers seem to do alot better in Crysis 2 (compared to the 280 / 285 branches). -

what does the voltage option do? should i enable it? -
Hello, i'm thinking of buying a GT780DX but i have a question about the warranty. If i buy it, it will be from a German e-shop but i'm gonna be using it in Greece. Will the warranty be ok or i will be obliged to ship it back to Germany if something is wrong? Thanks in advance and sorry if this is not the right place to ask
-
Voltage control in pretty well all overclocking tools tends to not work on mobile graphics cards (however, monitoring probably will work).
Far as usage:
It's intended permit you to adjust the GPU voltage without bios modification. Increasing voltage generally ups the max frequency that a chip can run stable at. However, it comes at the cost of increased power consumption and heat.
--I wouldn't touch it.
Update: Currently checking if Kombustor creates as much heat as Crysis 2.. Will post back soon.
Update 2: Don't think that MSI Kombustor generates anywhere near as much heat as in Crysis 2 on Ultra. You may want to check your temps in game. Right now I seem to be topped out with Kombustor at around 65-66c. TurboFan off.
I'll keep this going for 10 minutes though to be certain. Seems I don't have a thermal issue, but rather that Crysis 2 just makes the machine really-hot (haha).
Update 3: Peak temperature 66c from Kombustor. Moving onto check Crysis 2... (imo, I don't think this frequency is going to be a good idea for 24/7 use)
Crysis producing pretty bad artifacts for me at even 630core. Temperatures don't really go up at all, however I doubt it's stable at these frequencies (probably would start getting display driver crashes if I actually played it).
Update 4: For those interested, Kilowatt meter measures the peak power draw of my notebook in Crysis 2 (P1 mode, stock clocks) at 134 watts.
-- Remember that this is the draw at the outlet and NOT the draw at the supply (so consider PSU efficiency in that).
That's pretty slick!
Update 5: Artifacts were definitely caused by the clock bump (zero at stock). I don't intend to OC anyway so this isn't a concern, but remember to watch for anomalies / tearing triangles guys.
The next thing that generally happens is TDR / BSOD, after you notice these. -
okay, wont touch voltage -

If you are over one year when service is needed and if the "in Germany" warranty is 2 or 3 years with "registration" then you will need to get it fixed in Germany or pay for the repair elsewhere. -
The main thing you want to remember is to find a reseller who will work with you. They are your lifeline if problems arise. Test the laptop fully when you receive it and notify your reseler IMMEDIATELY when / if issues arise. Don't listen to those who say to let it go for a week and see if it gets better.. they are not your friends.
In all... your reseller is your lifeline! They'll either let you sink, or get you to safety. My reseller has gone quite above and beyond the norm to make sure I was a satisfied customer. -
It is weird but we only get mostly netbooks and low end notebooks from msi in Greece so buying them from Germany is one of the few options. -

Ken,thanks alot for sharing.
Can you tell us which SSD is included in the unit? -
-
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
I did a google seach for any SATA III 6 gb/s Transcend 128GB SSD but got no hits.
Only hits were about discontinued SATA II 3 gb/s Transcend SSDs. -

The specs posted on most dealers sites for pre-ordering a GT783-625US is for a 128GB SATA III 6 gb/s SSD.
So,MSI raised the stock price by $100 from $2399 to $2499 and then put a crap SATA II SSD in the unit after saying it would be SATA III?
From XOTICPC:
128GB Internal Solid State Drive (SATA III 6Gb/s) - Default (SKU - X5R415)
BTOTech:
128gb SSD SATA3 + 750gb 7200.4RPM
GenTech:
Changed specs from those that were posted yesterday from SATA III 6 gb/s to SATA II 3gb/s
Did you remove the original hard drive while trying to install Windows on the SSD?
Please read post #4973 in this forum. -

I have an xtreem s2 120 gb ssd. It worked when i installed in IDE but i wanted ahci...
I have put the drivers on a usb hdd and try to update them but it just says something like it will now install and if its not certified it will harm my windows..
Should i put back my original hdd with the os on and put my ssd in the other slot instead?? -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
The SSD should be in the primary drive slot and the bios set to AHCI.
Some SSDs have issues being recognized in some notebooks.
Does your SSD have the newest firmware and your notebook the newest bios?
The Intel RST must be the X64 version if the OS is 64bit. -
Tested everything else, starting to think that maybe I should just settle with IDE cuz it worked.. The ssd is being recognized in bios but not if I choose AHCI.. hmm lol, just when I was about to give up I think it somehow worked :O probably i chose the wrong partition or something ;P Will sleep now -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
Why are you partitioning the SSD?
If you must partition the small SSD do so after all utilities and drivers are installed, doing it in the Control Panel>Administator Tools.SSDs should always have at least 15%~20% free space to function correctly.
__________
Take out the hard drive and put the SSD in the primary drive slot. The SSD label should be showing.
Set the Bios to AHCI and accept changes.
In the bios the 1st boot device should be your CD/DVD and the second should be the SSD.
Boot from the USB stick or DVD that has the Windows 7 installation files.
If you are installing Windows from a USB stick then press F11 on bootup and choose the USB stick.
The screen after you choose Custom Clean Installation will have Disk Utilities and Add Driver.
First pick disk utilities and format ALL partitions and then Delete ALL partitions until only 1 remains. It should be about 112GB formated for a SandForce 120GB SSD.
Now put in the 2nd USB stick with the Intel RST x64 folder for RST v11.0.0.1032
Go to Add Driver and browse to the x64 folder on the 2nd USB stick.Install and OK>Next
After the Windows 7 files are expanded, updated the notebook will reboot for the 1st time.At this reboot remove both the USB sticks.
If and when the Window Install completes follow the instructions in post #4973 -

This is not good...and to discover it after MSI is closed for a long weekend
That SSD isn't even SATA II, it is SATA at 1.5Gb/s with sick read and write speeds and even worse reviews.
It will be interesting to see what MSI has to say on Tuesday.
