I believe this Transcend SSD drive was first introduced in November 2008
Newegg got it soon after that. Now discontinued?
Newegg.com - Transcend TS128GSSD25S-M 2.5" 128GB MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) -

Ken, your link does not support your statement that it is SATA II.
However the Newegg link above, and Transcend TS128GSSD25S-M Solid State Drive - 128GB, 2.5 SATA, MLC at TigerDirect.com and virtually every other link available at Google shows it is SATA 1.5Gb/s...not SATA II. -

The partition wasn´t on the ssd, I was refering to the other hdd.
Anyways i have tried all things that you listed, the ssd is updated to the newest version etc.
The thing that doesnt work is when im about to read the driver from my usb memory. It finds the driver and installs it, but says some wierd message that it maybe will harm my windows.
Its a yellowwarning sign when I choose the ssd in win 7 installation. It says i can´t install on that disc?
The only thing I havent tried is to update the msi bios, should I test that?
Im thinking about putting the driver in the win 7 dvd known as slipstreaming. how do I do that? -
Set your BIOS, to AHCI for the sata ports and then install windows, If you get to the format drive part of the install then just delete the existing partitions on the ssd and let windows do the work. Follow WhatsThePoint's instructions up till the install driver part. If this does not work try IDE in the BIOS. IDE is the only way I could get an old OCZ sandforce ssd I had to install on this notebook.
If this does not work, then rma the drive or see if you can exchange it for a different one. You are having way too many issues for a normal install. -

Hi, I have a msi gt780r-057us it comes with two westerndigital 750GB 7200rpm RAID0, my doubts are:
1-not trust raid I am very afraid of trouble if I take leave as the raid and two common hds lose much performance?
2 - if I remove the raid lose laptop recovery partitions?
3-if I lose recovery partitions is to mount it again after removing the RAID0?
By Google translator sorry

1) Don't trust any setup, you should always have a full backup.
2) Yes they will be lost.
3) Once it's lost, it's gone. -

If the bios is set to IDE then you will not install the Intel RST at the Add Driver screen(errors).
If after Windows 7 is installed on IDE setting and you can successfully switch the bios to AHCI then you can intall the new RST through Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers>IntelICH10R SATA ACHI Controller>driver>Update Driver and browse to the folder on the USB stick with the RST.
Even if installing Windows 7 on AHCI installing adding the new RST at the add driver screen isn't a "must do" but rather a "highly reommended" step.
An Intel 510,Crucial M4 or OCZ Vertex 3 would have been better SSD choices since they're known to work well in the GT780 series.
Having the newest firmware on SSDs is an important upate.
I don't know anything about your SSD brand, firmware and compatibility.
If you have a good Windows 7 installation on your hard drive you can try cloning it onto the SSD with the free O&O software.

Ahhhhhh, the SSD woes......... BTW, that Transcend SSD appears to be SATA II...... says so right on it's label..... plus I found several such references on Transcend's site.
Transcend TS128GSSD25S-M
I can't believe MSI opted this SSD in their premier 580M model..... it's degrading, LOL!
My Intel 510 ROCKS though!
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Actually SATA II is sooooooooooo much better than SATA I, and, SATA II is the same thing ASUS is putting in their high end G series builds.
For boot up times, application opening, shut down there is virtually no difference between SATA II & III. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Well, whatever your point Donald, my Intel 510 still ROCKkkkkkkz!
-
anyone may comment on gt783 fan noise???
-
But on my test there is no difference between GT783 and GT780. -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
Joining the peacefull discussion going on about the "SSD" in the new top of the line "MSI GT783-625US" I look at the SSD price and performance.
The GT783-658US is very similar.The difference being the 658 has 2 750GB hard drives and 1 4gb DDR3-1333 so-dimm less.
On the dealers site where I viewed the information about the 2 models there's a 4gb DDR3-1333 so-dimm upgrade for $17.
There's $80 off if you opt for only 1 750GB hard drive in the 658.So with 1 750GB hard drive and the added 16Gb of DDR3-1333 the cost of the 658 model is $2236
The cost of the GT783-625 is $2499 which by my math gives the Transcend 128GB SSD a value of about $263
The question that each potential buyer needs to ask themselves is this a good value.
Which SSDs can the consumer get for around $263 on this date.
Newegg prices(just as a reference):
OCZ Vertex Plus 240GB = $264.99 Sata II
OCZ Vertex 3 MI 120GB = $239.99 Sata III($219.99 with rebate)
Intel 510 series 120GB = $279.99 Sata III
Crucial M4 series 128Gb = $209.99 Sata III
Kingston HyperX 120GB = $229.99 Sata III($174.99 after rebate)
Samsung 830 series 128GB = $211.99 Sata III
Intel 320 series 160GB = $269.99 Sata II
OCZ Vertex 2 180GB = $239.99 Sata II
Patriot Wildfire 120GB= $234.99 Sata III($184.99 after rebate)
So,if I were buying a GT783 I'd most likely opt for the 658 with 1 750GB hard drive and 16Gb of Ram.Then I'd add the Patriot 120GB Wildlire SATA III SSD and have what the 625 should have been.
To sweeten the deal I see some dealers offering free 4gb memory module upgrade which would lower my estimated cost.
Naturally your choice of brand and size of an SATA III SSD may be different.
_________
So how does the Transcend's performace stack up with it's 143 mb/s read and 92 mb/s write?
It doesn't matter whether it's SATA or SATA II,it's an awful choice for an SSD in 2012 in a top of the line gaming notebook model. -
3. Reset Disks to Non-Raid to select this option has written (WARNING: Resetting a disk causes all data on the disk to be lost. This does not apply to Recovery volumes)

Have an order in for a GT780DX with 500GB primary and 80GB Intel SSD as secondary. Would you guys place the SSD as primary and load Winders onto it or just use the SSD as secondary for apps, games and such? I went with smaller 500GB drive since all my pics, music and such is stored on NAS. I'm not using half the 300GB I have now.

Are you putting a SATA II SSD in the notebook and not a SATA III SSD?
Remember your formatted size is less than 80GB and an SSD needs to have about 15%~20% free space to work correctly.
As a primary boot drive in a GT780 series notebook I recommend an SSD of 120GB or larger and SATA III. -
I am a proud owner of a new GT780DXR-279US. Just received it 3 days ago and wow what a wonder to behold. This thing is Freaking awesome. For about the past week or so I've been lurking around this forum getting familiar with all its little quirks and eagerly anticipating it's arrival. Now after having it for a few days there is just a few questions i have if anyone could help me out. I've noticed in the ECO Engine control for the Turbo Battery is missing, is it supposed to be there or is that function for lesser MSI notebooks? And I was also wondering which model Blu-ray burner I could get to fit this and if any of the resellers has a door for the BR-ROM with a eject button on it for sale that fits the odd shape of the origional?

Many SSDS have it in the box.My OCZ VR MI SSDs have them.
If you don't have the SSD installed by the notebook dealer then you will need to buy a MSI hard drive mounting bracket that holds the drive in place with 2 screws or make one..
Any of the new SATA III 2.5" SSDs will fit into either the primary bay or secondary bay.
The Samsung 830 series is a fine choice.
Many people are waiting for the long overdue Intel 520 series of SSDs.Hopefully they will be introduced on January 10th at CES 2012 in Vegas along with alot of other new SSDs?
You can't go wrong with the Samsung 830,Crucial M4,OCZ V3 MI or Patriot Wildfire.
Visit thessdreview.com for good info on SSDs;there's news, reviews, ssd info and how to tweak your system for best ssd performance.
A 3rd internal drive can be installed inside a caddy in place of the DVD but it's only SATA 2. A good place for more hard disk storage if you need it.
There's only 1 screw that holds in the DVD drive that's on the bottom next to the DVD symbol in the plastic that makes switching easy.
The DVD can be placed in an external USB case for the times you may have need for an optical drive.
I just about never use the ODD. -

The 750GB 7200rpm hard drive is a great bargain at $39 .
XOTICPC lists a 2nd 750GB 7200 hard drive in the GT780DX-406 for $37
RK Computers lists a 2nd 750GB 7200 for $150
Getting 2 750gb hard drives in the unit from the dealer will supply the needed 2nd bracket.
It's certainly a good time to be buying a new MSI GT78x gaming notebook. -
I installed a Panasonic UJ240 6x Blu-ray Burner BD-RE/8x DVD±RW DL off of Amazon and have had no troubles. I don't believe a replacement tray cover with button exists. I carefully removed the original cover and installed it on the new drive. If you don't plan to run S-Bar all you need to do is open My Computer and click on the drive letter and it should pop open. I believe you could create a shortcut to the desktop and use that for quicker access.
The big thing to remember is that you need to find your own software capable of playing BD's. I use Nero, but many people have recommended Corel and others. -
Who should i buy from?
Powernotebooks or gentec pc ?
Why is the notebook hardrive still using SATA 2 ?
I was wondering about delivering it to asia and how bout the adapters ... is it possible to change them >?
Some people would ask me why do i need to buy from US , reason is MSI asia needs at least 5 orders to proceed and no one interested in portable gaming -

Hey everyone. This may seem a little random, but I was bothered by the lack of a menu key on the keyboard. They did include an extra slash / vertical bar key next to the spacebar, so I remapped it to be a context menu key.
If you want to do the same thing, here's a registry file I made which can do it really easily. Once you run the .reg you have to either restart or log out then in to get it to take effect.
The registry hack...

I am having the same issues with deciding on an SSD...I was considering the Intel 510 or Crucial M4...My reseller who is well known and respected from this board spent a lot of time on the phone with me and seemed very helpful and honest..He actually recommended the Patriot Wildfire...saying despite popular opinion, it does not have any more issues than Intel and is much faster...however when I posted this in the SSD sub-forum everyone ripped the whole comparison apart because of the Patriot having a Sandforce based controller...now I'm still undecided...I have heard great things about the Samsung 830...unfortunately my fav resellers dont offer it!
-
I went with a Corsair Force Series GT 240gb. Works good enough for me but the new generation of ssds are just about to come out.
The GT783 is just too high in price at $2400. Too close to what a Alienware M18 with Sli 580m would be. I doubt the Msi matches the Alienware in quality. I don't even think the my Msi Gt780dxr matches my Asus G73 in quality. At least the Asus had dual cooling fans that are dead quiet and better build. Msi is fine but I wouldn't sink more money in one for the quality you get. -
-
at least it will give us the hope that whatever the next generation cards might be, MSI will probably offer the fastest card along with AW and Sager.
For SSD if you want something new and fast and still reliable, go with the Samsung 830. There are already quite a few compliments here in this very forum. -
NotebookNeophyte Notebook Evangelist
Wow..you are the first one I have heard to say that the 780DXR suffers from poor build quality...I have done a TON of research online before deciding..watching multiple reviews on Youtube....reading multiple reviews on various review sites...and even talking live to both Xotic and PowerNotebooks and not a single one had negative things to say regarding build quality...whereas issues with Alienware are absolutely rampant..I'm disappointed to hear you say this...I have my heart set on an MSI..and build quality is important to me...

WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
#1 get the GT783-658 not the GT783-625
#2 Remove the second 750GB hard drive
#3 Get the DVD multi instead of the BD Burner
#4 Take advantage of a free 4GB memory upgrade
#5 Get cash and other discounts, free shipping
This should get you to around $2,000 or a bit more or less.
If you prefer a certain seller that is a bit more costly, ask for price matching.
You can use the savings to put in a new SSD of your choosing.
SSD prices vary from the dealers here plus online sellers and don't forget about models with rebates.
They'll be a ton of new SSDs introduced at CES 2012.

it only cost 2000USD with the exact same spec as the 2499$
I dont know why is more expensive in the US
Right now i am considering which company to buy from or should i not buy .
I asked some people on the net and they told me powernotebooks are popular and they are A+++ awesomeness and cheaper than gentech
But some stated gentech was worldwide known etc... -

Hello guys!
I just got my GT780R with the geforce 560m.
Everything seems to be working fine, except for the keyboard backlight; when I press the backlight button nothing happens no matter how hard I press, so I am not able to turn it on.
Could you please help me on this?
Would be really appreciated. -

Any ideas?? -

Is there a simple way to remove the keyboard or the hotkey board without passing by the bottom?
Regards -

Opening the bottom doesn't void the warranty as stated in this forum a few times.
Contact the place where you purchased the unit and let them help you in getting it working if you can't/won't do it yourself.
BTW,information about the GT685 is posted on MSI site

I plan on buying a GT780DX, and have a quick question.
Basically my last 2 choices are a
1. G74SX with a I7 2670QM and a GTX 560M
2. GT780DX with a I5 2410M with a GTX 570M
I know the 570M - 15% = 560M and that 2670QM - 70% = 2410M in benchmarks. I buy this laptop only for gaming so, I guess my dilemma is obvious.
Which configuration is better? The 570M is near the top, and I know that the GPU has a bigger impact on gaming performance than the CPU, but isn't the CPU just too weak for a 570M?
thanks! -
I have experience in taking appart laptops, but I don't want to void the warranty :/
Thanks for the responses.Attached Files:
