Safe? NO. It is never safe to overclock. Never overclock unless you can afford another CPU, or another laptop if you are overclocking the GPU.

That said, you can very well safely overclock, but you always run the risk or causing permanent damage to your hardware.

Do you have an old version of the 780DX? what is your processor? Don't you have "cooler boost technology"? Why would you need a cooler pad?

Note this when overclocking: Overclocking, by definition, is pushing hardware beyond what the manufacturer has deemed safe for your hardware. It doesn't necessarily mean you can't do it without causing damage, but it does mean that overclocking is always a risk.

Use the rule of investing: If you cannot afford to lose it, do not risk it. I hope you take my advice.

fortunately I had saved my answers and reposted it, removing the "curse words" which I had actually asterisked, so in fact there weren't actually curse words. Also, you completely lied about what I wrote.

granted I did remove all the caps and exclamation points and the emotional drama and turned it into a more professional post. However, it still basically says the same thing: the end does not justify the means. This laptop has too many issues and too poor tech support to spend your $2000 on, unless you must have a GTX570M for under $3000.

It depends on how you upgrade, as to whether there will be data loss. Generally if you do reinstall, all your old files will be moved to a folder called "windows.old" in your C drive.

However, you should always perform a full backup of any important files, before attempting to reinstall windows. This is because in some instances, your old copy of windows was corrupted and did not correctly save your files into windows.old, causing complete data loss. I know because I have experienced this before when upgrading windows for a client. Always back everything up first.

    1) Thank god MSI didn't label the GT780 as a "Work Computer". There are much better options available for Productivity.

    2) The DPI can be adjusted in any Browser you choose to use. What didn't you understand the first time I told you this? How about this. You tell me what Browser you use and I'll tell you how to adjust the DPI. I'll throw you a bone and just come out and tell you how to change the DPI in Photoshop. You've obviously never heard of using the shortcut "Alt+Ctrl+I". If you want to keep the same DPI every time you use Photoshop then after you adjust it, uncheck "Resample Image".

    3) I hope I don't either!

    4) You don't use the THX Equalizer. You use "THX Studio Pro". In this application, go to settings and you can adjust the crossover setting through there. Move the slider up if you want less bass.

    5) So did I. That still doesn't explain why you view your laptop at such extreme angles that the back light creates a problem. Every back lit keyboard will look the same way when viewed at a angle.

    6) Why even purchase the GT780 if lights bother you. It has lights all over it and you knew it going in.

    7) Mine works. Want to see a video?

    8) Get real. Did they advertise a travel adapter with the GT780? What don't you get? The GT780 will not function correctly with a small power adapter. My prior Asus didn't come with a travel adapter. I have never seen a travel adapter included with a gaming laptop manufactured by Asus.

    9) Yes I did. Why are you worried about it if your GT780 already had two hard drives included which in turn means your GT780 came with HDD caddy's.

    10) I see your very worried about that sticker. You can purchase them online. Some have also said they are easy to remove while still keeping them intact. If you can't fix things on your own, maybe you shouldn't be messing around with the warranty stickers.

    11) When I say "Keyboard", I am not including the "Number Pad". I am strictly talking about the area of keys that run from the "Caps Lock" to the "Enter" key. This is the area in which your hands rest when using the keyboard. Lets do a drill. Go ahead and place your fingers on the "Home Keys". If you don't know what they are, they consist of (A,S,D,F J,K,L, ;). After you have your hands in the correct placement, take a look at your thumbs and tell me if the touch pad is directly below them. If your touch pad is centered with the keyboard, then your touch pad will be directly below your thumbs. This is how all laptops are designed. Take a look at this Asus and you will see what I'm talking about. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/06/lead-resized.jpg

    12) I was simply wandering why you didn't choose a different GT780 model if you don't like RAID. It's common sense really.

    13) Your welcome!

    14) Hey moron!!! If you want to use the "Home" key and "End" key without using the "FN" key then all you have to do is use "7" and "1" on the NumPad. This right here just shows everyone, you have absolutely no idea what your doing or talking about. Your complaints hold no merit.

    Have a nice day. KTHNXBYE!

I notice you only have few post in this forum, and it appears you have come to be argumentative, or with a disparaging attitude.

As a new member, try reading the Forum Rules

With your very first post here (deleted by an NBR Mod), it appears you came here with the sole intent to be discouraging. I suggest you would be better received here if your post were more helpful. Most everyone here in the 'Owner's Lounge' is well aware of the notebook's shortcomings, and if you have read the thread, most of which you complain has been discussed over and over again.

I have a few questions for you.......

1.) If you have issues with your notebook, why not get with your reseller and have them resolved? If you didn't purchase from a reseller, well then that's part of your problem, because the resellers here have been very good resolving such issues.

2.) If you dislike the notebook so much, why not get a refund, rather than complaining here? None of the Owner's here are capable of doing this for you, or correcting the issues of which you complain.

3.) Why do you make the HDD caddy an issue, if you have a RAID system? This should be a non-issue if your notebook came with two HDD's. Also (and again if you had taken time to read this thread), if you need an HDD caddy, solutions have been posted here, and resellers are helpful in this regard.

4.) Why do you make an issue of RAID at all? RAID is NOT a downfall of any particular notebook model...... it's a matter of personal preference, and you certainly could have ordered a non-raid system.

5.) As to your keyboard complaints, why not GET IT FIXED rather than complaining to us? You can RMA to MSI for another keyboard, and the resellers have been most helpful in resolving this for their customers.

6.) With regard to the touchpad, the GT780 models are shipped with both Sentelic & Synaptics touchpads..... and MSI is well aware of Sentelic complaints. As later shipments are arriving with Synaptics touchpads, I suspect your notebook is one of the early shipments. A decent mouse is very helpful in this regard, you think?

7.) Most understand the warranty sticker will not void your warranty if you install a second HDD..... but wait, you have RAID, right? If not, you will be fine in adding a second HDD, but this HDD will not be inclusive in your overall MSI warranty. Also & again, the resellers are helpful in the preservation of your warranty. You did purchase from a reseller, right?

8.) Power adapter is too large? You do understand there is a difference in charging the battery, and the power requirements of this notebook, don't you? I suppose you are another that wants to game on just the battery, right? Good luck with this, and your concerns over the PA size.

Anyhow, every complaint you make here has been addressed, solutions have been suggested, remedies are available, and some of your issues are considered of little consequence with most.

The very fact you 'Saved' your original post would seem to indicate you knew your original post would not be well received. This would also suggest you are not new to the forum world. Are you here with intent to stir-up trouble...... have you been banned here before?

To the other members here..... if you find this member an annoyance, you can simply 'Ignore' this individual, rather than being drawn into his or her rhetoric. Also, you are free to report improper post to the forum moderators. If this tone of disruption continues, I would suggest all consider this. From what I have read, I do not believe this member is here to be helpful, find solutions, discuss, or debate..... but moreoverly, to argue. It's probably best not to get caught up into the arguement.

Also, let's please not get into name-calling here...... remember, 'You get back, what you give'..... which will only continues the disruption! Don't be lured into becoming a part of the problem.

    :)

It probably means the item is in the carriers possession in your region and is awaiting clearance to deliver it from the customs inspectors.

You may need to pay an import tax before you are allowed to take possession.

You should be contacted shortly and told of the amount due.

Where and how it is paid differers by shipping method and country.

I work in Seoul,Korea and when I receive computers or parts from outside the country I pay 20% of the item cost plus shipping cost when the total is more than $100US.

If it is shipped through the postal system I need to pay and pickup at the international post office.

If it is shipped through a private carrier like FedEX and DHL I will pay at my door after being informed by phone of the delivery time and amount due.

    It's the exact price.

If by chance a package is lost or stolen the insurance will only cover the amount declared on the shipping invoice and customs declaration.

No dealer will want to under value an item and get burnt for the amount the insurance didn't cover.

Don't ask a dealer to do it.

Yep, that's exactly what it was. Tore the laptop apart today and resoldered the power connector.
    laptopconnector.jpg

When I first cracked it open it looked like I would have to completely disassemble the nit in order to get to the power connector, but I was able to remove the video card heat sink and then the video card and get to it that way.

Usually the higher end side of Wireless N routers usually include 5 GHz N so thats the reason why i went with a Intel 6300 in my Clevo.
I dont really see a reason not to get it into your MSI unless you really want integrated bluetooth.

Im hearing some awful noise coming from my right speaker, almost like a speaker is already blown.. Its not happeneing all the time but really only noticeable when there is some bass but it sounds like a metallic noise. I've had the notebook for 3 full days now and have really only played music or a game with audio for 4 hours now.

Im feeling pretty upset right now.

Hey man you need a 3d display which comes with 3d glasses (any type for movies, nvidia 3d glasses for free use in games or purchase software along with non-nvidia displays) an HDMI cable, bluray player in your machine, 3d bluray, and playback software capable of 3d playback (such as that made by arcsoft media).

I don't know if the software included with the retail MSI machines has 3d playback capability.

Ordered a MSI GT783R-658 from Gentech a couple days ago. Really looking forward to getting my hands on it, from everything Ive read it should be pretty slick. Only thing I didnt go with was the $35 screen upgrade to a glossy...Ive had glossy on my previous 2 laptops, so I hope the matte doesnt bother me too much.

Are you using the SRSaudio plugin or another one?

    http://www.srslabs.com/audioessentials/

Have you updated the Realtek HD Audio driver to the most current version or are you using the MSI version that is preinstalled on new notebooks?

I suggest you download the newest Realtek HD Audio driver and install it.

    http://www.realtek.com/downloads/do...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

    http://www.station-drivers.com/page/realtek_audio.htm

It will first uninstall the old driver and then reboot your system.

Then the new driver will be installed.

The system again will need to reboot.

After the 2nd reboot the new driver will be functional.

Now open the Realtek Audio Manager and setup your speakers or headphones.

    Also check your mic.

AFAIK, Dual Link DVI is still a better option than HDMI 1.4 since you can have 3D 1080p @ 120Hz, whereas with HDMI 1.4 you would be limited to 1080p@48hz. Depends on what you're plugging into of course (TV or Monitor). I'm assuming you're talking about a monitor.

You can use either DVI Dual Link or HDMI 1.4 to feed 3D content to your 120Hz TV screen. You would also need the emitter (which may already be installed on your TV) and stereoscopic glasses to view the content.

I reinstalled the Realtek HD audio drivers and they seem to have made it a lot better, but I still hear some distortion on the THX bass test audio files, is that just normal because these speakers are small? I also am not sure what the SRS plugin is, or what plugin I have now.

I was hearing the distortion in video games when a deep voiced character would talk.

I installed a SSD as my primary boot drive and used the MSI partition for the software installation. The original drive is the desktop(data) drive.

It starts up fine and runs fine, however it keeps drive failing when going into and out of hybernation. Going into hybernation it blue screens and memory dumps, coming out of hybernation it stalls or asks if I want to retry loading the restore data.

Updating the firmware is about the only thing I can think of to try and fix this but that requires a lot of work in removing the drive and installing onna different computer or installing windows on the other drive to boot.

Any specific idea's on how to solve this before I try firmware updates?

if you still have your original hdd with windows still installed, you can try booting from it and flashing the ssd as secondary drive.

or try using the flash utility on a usb thumbdrive as a boot drive, it could let you flash the ssd then.

if it comes as an iso, use Universal USB Installer to make it into a usb boot thumbdrive.

as always, make a full backup before flashing. its just safer.

Install the chipset drivers again and hopefully problem solved. Have had that issue a few times, albeit not caused by an SSD, but that is certainly where I'd start. :)
