This wouldn't be the source of the problem, but I wouldn't recommend using hibernate with an SSD. Every time you hibernate, the entire contents of your RAM is written to the hard drive, which is a lot of unnecessary wear on the SSD. Personally, I disabled hibernate, since my computer boots almost as fast as it wakes up from hibernation. This also freed up the 8 GB wasted by the hibernation file.

true, 16gb in my case. reduced the swap to between 200mb and 4gb, figured it doesn't need the 24gb windows allows itself to use when set to self manage the swap.

How about with THX turned off.

I almost always use high end headphones or earbuds.I have THX off.

SRS is an Audio Plugin that works with Realtek to enhance the sound similar to THX.

I don't recommend cloning a non SSD mechanical drive partition to an SSD or even SSD to SSD.

A fresh clean install of Windows 7 with the 2nd drive removed has a much better chance of being a good installation and have an uncorrupted MBR than a cloning. It will also ensure that TRIM will work.

The Intel series 6 chipsets were rushed to market without good SSD support in chipset installation software. The newest WHQL version v9.3.0.1020 should be used because it has alot of fixes for SSDs AHCI and Raid enhancements.

    I suggest you try it.

Driver updates usually offer 3 things besides better overall performance.

    Bug Fixes

    New Hardware Support

    Better Software Support

Todays 295.51 Beta has all 3.

    Yes and Yes

Some don't like the stock matte screen(I do).

Some don't like the keyboard(I do)

    Some don't like....

Not every unit that comes off the assembly line is 100% perfect.

People have reported an issue with probably every piece of hardware and software in this series of notebooks the same as with every other notebook ever made.

Take the time to read through this entire thread starting with Post #1 and make notes of what you think is important before you order.

Then contact the dealers in Post #1 for their help in setting up the best configuration to fit in your budget.

Hey folks, im pretty new to these boards since i've purchased my own MSI GT780DX the other day, but i've come across a very annoying problem.

The problem i've got is that i cant seem to press the space bar when im already pressing W and E keys (i believe this problem is called masking/ghosting).

ive spent the best 3-4 hours on this so far without any real solution online and ive come here seeking some help solve this problem.

    kind regards - Momoh

I am not sure, bu i think since W and E are typing ( well E later on ) then the space wont work. I dont think its problem with ghosting

Because i can press 10 letter keys and they all register.

After reading this thorough review and test (Test Setup and Method starts on page 8 or the article) of the SSD optimization guide, I ultimately decided to leave most settings alone. I think it's worth a look for anyone considering following the older ssd optimization guide.

Has anyone actually seen the Matte and the Glossy side by side? My notebook came in yesterday with the Matte finish and it should have been glossy. the Caveat is the Matte looks pretty good but without a side by side look its hard to tell if I am missing anything by not going glossy.

They have already offered to replace the screen but I am wondering if its worth sending it in or living with it.

I would say if you are happy with the matte screen stick with it because matte screens certainly have benefits over glossy, like lack of reflections being the main one which to some is a HUGE thing.

Hey Quad Man! What's brings you to this neck of the woods, my friend...... long time, no talkie? Where ya been hang'in, Sager land?

Yep, the matte screen has it's benefits, but I did finally give in to that AUO 90% color gamut screen...... a pretty, pretty screen...... a good call on your part.

sorry but in game, you run with W and you do something else with E and try to jump it doesn't work.

Might just be a quirk might be something else. but its just not working when you need it to, that said how often do you need it to?

in fps its rare, might be in a few games i guess...

Nah no notebook anymore just poking my head in and out of the usual spots and figured i would chime in on his question :).

The 90% gamut is amazing thats for sure but he said he was pleased with the matte so i suggested to keep it .

If it were me i would ask the reseller who owes me the screen to maybe ship it so i can swap them myself (if you feel comfortable handling something like this of course) and decide which i like better, as he may end up getting the glossy one and not like it as much for one reason or the other, then having to go back and ask for the matte one back etc. Unlikely but very possible :).

What, no notebook? That's bound to be a temporary condition, I'm sure. Eye-ball'in anything? ;)

Yeah, the matte screen is OK, I just had to try the 90% gamut, and I was impressed. Thusfar I have been avoiding getting my notebook to close to my wife's. If she notices the difference in the screens, for sure she'll be asking, "How come your screen looks so much prettier then mine? What's wrong with my screen?" And if that happens, you know what that means..... Ken will be smiling at me yet again, LOL! (Cha-Ching!)

    Hello,

I have a question regarding RAM memory upgrade to my MSI GT780DXR-433NL (unfortunately this was the only model available in RO at the time and it came with 8GB RAM ( 4 GB*1 2 GB*2).

After going though most of the previous pages I couldn't relate to any prior post on the matter, so here goes: maybe you can help me!

I would like to upgrade (replace RAM) with at least 16 GB but I am not sure on the compatibility!

    I found

    Corsair SODIMM DDR3 16GB, CL9, Kit Dual
    SODIMM DDR3 ValueSelect | kit 16 GB (2x 8 GB) | 1333MHz | 9-9-9-24 | 204PIN |

but I not sure if that will work. Can anyone confirm this would be ok?

    I am unsure of the timings (9-9-9-24) if those are ok since the RAM the laptop came with is capable (8 8 8 22 @609 MHz, 7 7 7 20 @533, 6 6 6 17 @457 5 5 5 14 380MHz)

Everything else would fit DDR3 1333 MHz 204 pin. I"m attaching the screenshot.

Can anyone have a saying in this? Anyone runs at those timings?

    Many thanks for and replies!

    Cheers!

If you think the matte looks good then just keep it. There are benefits that the matte display as over the glossy display. Those benefits just aren't important to me. I don't ever deal with reflection issues so I would rather have a more accurate color reproduction along with darker blacks and a higher contrast. Look at it this way. If you never see the glossy display, you never know what your missing. Although you could walk into Best Buy and look at some glossy screens in there.

The thing you want to achieve in a memory configuration in GT78x series note books is true duel channel mode performance and not flex mode.

In flex mode only 1 of the 2 memory channels is in duel channel mode while the other is in single channel.

Your easiest upgrade is to add on more 4gb memeory module withe the same timings as your original 4gb module. You will then have 1 x4gb and 1x2gb under the keyboard in one channel and 1x4gb and 1x2gb in the bottom slots in the other channel. This will give you 12gb duel channel with 6gb in each channel.

Another choice is to discard the 2x2gb modules and buy 3 more 4gb modules with the same timings as the 1 original 4gb module.

The modules don't all need to be the same brand;they should have the same timings.

Now with 4 x 4gb you will have 16gb with 8gb in each channel for true duel channel mode performance

Coming from a glare type screen and getting the matte on the GT780DX, I'll never go back to glare. You loose some of the "pop" with matte but the benefits of no glare outweigh that.

I went as far as opening an RMA with MSI to get this fixed but the other night I gently lifted up the spacebar and it seem to reseat and now works perfectly. Now I don;t have to be without this laptop for ten days or more for them t have probably done the same thing.

This is great to hear about your keyboard.

The new Sager NP9270 has a nice looking backlit keyboard also.(attachment)

    Very similar layout?

I agee about the screen.I enjoy my GT780DX with the stock matte screen.

An AUO B173HW01 v4 panel is a nice upgrade if glossy is prefered and not that there's a problem with the stock matte type screen.

Thank you for the advice man! You are absolutely right, I should discard the 2x2 gb modules, but I would also discard the 4 gb module (elixir) to get a 4x4 kit.

I may ask something stupid here: is the 4 x 4 gb kit you are referring as "true dual channel" the same thing with a "quad channel" ?

Is this even achievable on this laptop? I find difficulties in finding quad kits from any of the top manufacturers (Mushkin, Crucial, OCZ, Corsair etc)

Can you please direct me to a memory configuration of 4x4 -16 gb what can be best done for this laptop? Also advice on the brand would be very helpful, what's your configuration?

    Many thanks and cheers!

It's been over 10 working days (excluding their away-days from 21st to 29?).

And still no answer from MSI.

It pisses me off. I didnt pay 1500 euros to receive a faulty keyboard that doesn't function properly and that I have to quadro-check for spelling because it's as as my .

Last time I buy from MSI.

You can use 4GB pieces in pairs to get 4x 4GB = 16GB. Both pairs will operate in Dual Channel mode.

Or, you can just put 2x 4GB in addition to what you have and while those that are not paired will not be operating in Dual Channel mode, you will find the amount of memory will be more important than the limited advantage you get from Dual Channel mode which only gives you maybe 5~7% in most applications.

....all right ...but then would it make more sense to get 8 gb modules to reach the 32 GB limit in time ?

GenTechPC thanks for clarifying ... i don't know where I read that the sandy bridge is capable of paring quad channel with the ram...oh well

Hey guys, I just noticed that while playing certain games at highest resolution (while at 40 fps and 60 deg. Celsius)
my screen has trouble showing smooth images when rotating the camera angle.
The effect I'm talking of is that the picture almost lags behind in certain areas of the screen. (as if the screen has trouble keeping up showing the movement, parts of the screen sort of stutter behind...even if just a fraction of a second delayed)
I figured it had to do with the screen because I do not get that effect when I play via hdmi on my tv.
It isn't all that bad but it's just not smooth....Any suggestions what could be the cause for this and how I can fix it?

I"m sure i don"t need 32 gb now, and 16 gb will suffice, but if i"m to upgrade it (the crappy setup my machine came with (1x4 gb + 2 x 2 gb)) i want to do it right from the beginning, and probably it will be more cost efficient to get 2 x 8gb now (with another 2 x 8 gb in the future when needed) than 4 x 4 gb now, and then have to discard all and get 8 gb modules from 0. Plus ram isn"t that expensive these days.

But I"m here open minded for advice, and experience from the more experienced.

Sure, that makes good sense. This way you can have 22GB now and it is much more upgradeable if you need to in the future...although 22GB is a GOB of memory for almost anyone.

The present 204 pin so-dimm 8GB memory modules are still rather expensive and in the DDR3-1333 speed.

The Ivy Bridge Mobile CPU onboard memory controller will have DDR3-1600 support so expect 8GB DDR3-1600 204 pin so-dimms in the not to distant future.

Adding a single 4gb module so you have 6GB in each channel is the most cost effective upgrade path.

A 4 x 4GB configuration of DDR3-1333 is the second best upgrade path.

    There's also 4 x 4GB DDR3-1600 PnP module upgrade path at a higher than DDR3-1333 cost.

A 2 x 8GB of DDR3-1333 + 1 x 4Gb upgrade is not worth the cost to go to 24GB unless as Donald suggested you need the large amount of memory for software that can make use of it.

If gaming will ever need that much memory, you pobaly would have already replaced your gaming notebook once, twice or more.

Money would be better spent on a SATA III 240GB SSD or better graphics card where you might acually see and use the performace gain for the investment..

What are the differences between the GT780 and the GT783? Other than the ability to have a 580M?

No different. the only different is MSI did the rework on the mainboard to boost MXM power in order to use GTX580M.

Is anyone able to shed some light on what 128GB SSD is in the GT783? I can't really find anything, and I've scoured the web looking. I may have overlooked it right here in the thread... but I can't find it.

Hi everybody. I'm thinking about buying and GT780DX and I would like to know if it has any issues or hardware problems I should know about because I'm leaving the country on February 10 and i won't have time to return it in case of any malfunction.
