Ah ha! Gotcha. Thanks for the direction. Stinks, looks like the SSD is pretty crappy. I don't need a lot of space, so I was going to use my Crucial 128GB M4 as the primary drive, and then use the Transcend SSD as my secondary drive, but I don't know, I may see if I can flip the Transcend for some cash, and keep the 750GB 7200RPM drive.

    That's what I would do. I know I couldn't live with 128gb for a storage drive.

I think they are both the same exact thing. One is Black and the other is Brushed Aluminum. I've never seen these. Are they just microphones and do they mount onto the laptop or just sit there? Also, what makes them so expensive?

I all ready had good mic audio and still do but when I was swapping out my screen I noticed something. On the left side of the camera it even says mic and there are 2 small holes. When I had the screen bezel off there is 2 mics, 1 behind each hole. The interesting part is there was a piece of fairly hard plastic taped to block these holes. I easily removed it. Can anyone think of a good idea why MSI would interfere with the mics like that?

I don't know how much you can get for a used 3 year old SATA 2 SSD model.

No matter how bad it performs as an SSD it's still going to perform better than a mechanical platter hard drive.

You can always put it in a caddy in the optical bay and move the ODD to an external enclosure.

Haha... Don't rain on my parade WhatsThePoint.

I ended up buying it, he agreed to hold off for payment until my Temporary Hold is released. Doesn't do much for my upcoming business trip, but at least I'll have a pretty stellar gaming laptop for the next few years, with an accidental warranty. That's a big thing for the branded vs whitebook, is the accidental warranty. It'll be riding in my cruiser part time, so it may get tossed around.

You think the SSD would still bring $50-75 though, right? I was thinking $75, but I could be off base.

The difference appears to be only the color/finish on the snowball with the GB being gloss black and the AL being aluminum.

I watched the Danish girl praise it in the video plus read the positive reviews.

I heard a lot of people praising that one.

There are more, hope i dont name company ... like : Blue Yeti, Snowball, Black magic, etc.

Mostly used by famous Youtube commentators. The thing is its entry level, very good and not that expensive. Its a long time investment its not like Hardware, i dont think i will change mic every year, so its worth it.

I think that things around audio are mostly long term investments, arent they.

Aside from that i have to admit this laptop opened my eyes a bit. I was ready to buy SH HD598 and get the show on, then i heard this laptops sound and i think i will be going 5.1 for desktop. And that microphone.

I was also thinking if its a mic the first time i saw it. Was looking more like camera from Logitech, just bigger and weirder, eh. I guess i get it, then together with my new Roccat kone+ replacement for the broken one :D

    THanks

The black tape over the mic is so bad all i hear is muffled sound, i practically have to scream 2inches away from it to hear anything. To think, if it wasn't for that thick kevlar tape we could all hear ourselves on cam.

So when you removed the tape, how does it sound now when you record your voice, is it crystal clear and normal ?

i'm not in a rush to open my screen just yet as this lappy is brand new but i will eventually have to.

Or spend 60$ on a good mic. i was thinking the AT2020usb but its 120$. they have the AT2020 XLR (65$) with a XLR2USB adapter (12$) but that's another thing that could introduce distortion.

anyway , plz get back to me about the sound clarity plz

I'm having an issue with the laptop not going into full sleep mode when I close the lid. The screen blanks, but the keyboard lights and fan continue to run. No apps are running. Any suggestions?

With the advanced power option set for sleep when the lid is closed my keyboard lights go out.

When I open the lid the keyboard lights are out but the power button is flashing.

Tapping the power button once wakes the unit to life.

Very OT, but a question none the less.

Is it possible to resize the raid parition using the windows 7 disk management tools? I need to grow my C:\ partition by about 400gig and shrink my D:\ partition by about the same. Also... is this safe, or do I need 'special (read commercial)' software?

Just remove the bezel and screen and place a color film on the MSO log, pretty easy. :)

GT783-625US comes with special packaging with backpack, headset and mouse pad.

The GT78R-658US box is the same as GT780.

Yes you can resize the partition even it's RAID using Windows disk management. The RAID hard drives works just like a single drive.

Resize partition is safe and does not need special software.

Question for y'all (sorry if it was asked/answered in this 500+ post thread):

I want to replace one of my 750GB drives with an SSD and break the raid 0 option. Doable w/o messing up the warranty or no?

Good question. I know the vast majority of 780 & 783 owners have upgraded to a SSD... I think I've read Ken (possibly) say that doing so doesn't void the warranty, that they pay no mind to the warranty stickers. Hopefully someone who has some first hand knowledge can chime in here w/ the answer.

Ah well I'm giving this laptop back to my retailer.

MSI totally ignoring my request for help at their online customer support.

This keyboard is so corrupt that it's a disgrace for a laptop that cost me 1500 euros.

Yeah, no thanks. Taking my money back to get something decent instead.

Keep in mind that the suggested settings are based on MrShadowness opinion and his eye..... what HE sees. If you are interested in actual calibration settings, you may want to consider the following:

ICM profile to improve the image quality of the matte display for GT780/GT783 notebooks (Chi Mei N173HGE-L11/21)

Also, such settings may not be of any value to your external display or HDTV. If these are in need of color correction, it is best they be calibrated individually, and not with the settings of your notebook display.

    :)

    About what? The faulty keyboard?

They brought it in for 2 weeks of "repairing/troubleshooting it".

When I got it back they said there were ZERO issues with the keyboard. Everything was working properly.

One hour after I started using the laptop again, after 2 weeks in my retailer's repair service, the same issues (keyboard registering random characters upon pressing a button) started re-accuring.

Now they expect me to resend it back for ANOTHER 2 weeks (the retailer in Sweden) and me giving them a SECOND chance of their THEIR job of finding a LITTLE ISSUE that a 9 year old can figure out.

And MSI is ignoring my messages and reports.

I'm sorry if I'm being impolite, rude, spoiled, childish, selfish....but spending 1500 euros on this garbage keyboard and with this service, yes it makes a customer furious.

MSI have themselves recommended the same repair service shop here in Sweden as my retailer does.
I personally called the repair shop reporting that the keyboard HAS issues after them telling me that they are sending it back cause nothing's wrong with it. They called me a fool and hung up (not literally...but you get the idea).
    Sloppy work is sloppy.

NOTE: EVERYTHING ABOUT THE LAPTOP IS WORKING SOLID AS A ROCK EXCEPT THIS STUPID KEYBOARD.

it did that to me too the 1st time it went to sleep, the keyboard lights would stay on. when i F3'd it went away. update your drivers?

yunno that's something i wanted to know, why doesn't this laptop turn on when you open the lid after it goes to sleep ?

my old lappy (winxp) used to power back on when i opened the lid. must be a win7 thing. i kinda miss that.

When I run GPU-z, the PhysX box is not checked. The box should be checked if your hardware is capable of PhysX acceleration. Is there a reason why the box isn't checked and could someone verify if their box is checked? Thank you.

Hit FN+F6. That should turn the camera on and then you can use whatever software you want. MSI has a couple programs on their website but they suck.

As mentioned above the Fn + F6 keys will enable the HD Camera.

Cyberlink's YouCam 5 and Arcsoft's Webcam Companion 4 are 2 popular webcam softwares but neither is free. There are free trial versions for both.

Each uses a different format for video files

    App for forcing HD in Skype;
    http://www.nodewave.com/software/windows/ForceSkypeHDVideo/ForceSkypeHDVideo.html

MSI once had a webcam software called Q-face

    EDIT:MSI has released AfterBurner v2.2.0 beta 12

Try the trial version of both the YouCam 5 and Webcam Companion 4 and see which you prefer.

I think the YouCam 5 trial is only 15 days while the Arcsoft Webcam Companion 4 is 30 days.

LOL! Democratic country? Devalue your effort? WOW!

Since you seem to be defensive on this, and as this is the third time in this thread you've posted your eye-balled settings, I now suspect you believe your eye is better than Spyder calibration.

All I was suggesting was an alternative...... an actual calibration profile...... which is equally as easy to impliment.

    Lighten Up!

Does anyone know if the Steelseries keyboard is dimable? My Asus had a Function key that would make the backlight brigter or dimmer. It doesn't really make a difference but I was just wondering.

I just got the 72% gamut glossy screen and I think the colours on that are awesome. Im really happy with it, but I imagine the 90% one must be even more amazing. Even though it's glossy, I have zero issues with glare at home under normal lights or even under fluorescent. I much prefer this over matte.

MSI GT780R 17" Gaming Laptop First Look & Review- Part 1 - YouTube

    btw where's part 2?

After hearing the cooling fan at 8:00 (and its ramped up to max for him) i'm now i'm convinced my fan is much noisier than it should be.

idk how many decibels that is for him, but i wish mine was that quiet lol.

    maybe mine is over-volted ?

Why doesn't my retail shop (whom practially sold the MSI GT780DX to me) in Sweden have the authorization of ordering the keyboard-part and then swap the keyboards? That's what they told me. They can't swap the keyboard cause they aren't allowed to do so. They are as a private customer as I am.

Can't MSI give them a clear go-sign to do this from their behalf without the warranty being removed?
