I've had that happen once. I was in BF3, alt-tabbed out, and messing with SONAR in the browser. Everything went haywire and locked up. I don't think it's a hardware problem as much as a software problem so I'm not worried about the laptop.

Someone knows how to make the mount bracket for the 2nd HDD?? Mine didn't come with anything else on the box, so i would just have to make one, cause is very expensive to get one to me here in Uruguay....

I accept advices, in two days my SSD is coming and i would like to be prepared for when it comes....

    Thank's a lot.

SSDs are light weight and don't take a lot to hold them in place.

Of the 2 hard rubber block designs used by MSI to secure the hard drives in place I prefer the one with the step because it's easier to put in and take out.

A bracket made out of plastic instead of metal and can easily be fashioned to work well.A few pieces of plastic and some super glue should do the trick.

Compal once shipped notebooks with duct tape used to secure the drives.

PIX #1 shows the 2 different rubber blocks and standard metal bracket
PIX #2 shows secondary drive with unstepped rubber block

Off to search google for Compal Duct Tape. That's classic.

    It can, however, fix anything.

Can you buy the 3rd bay to replace the optical drive anywhere online, or do you need to go through a reseller. I'm thinking I may just sell my BD-Burner, opt for 3 Internal HD's. Or put my Burner in a USB enclosure, since it'll be very rarely used.

Yes, i only used it to install windows, and i could use a usb stick but... never knows...
I'm doing it myself cause i'm in uruguay and there is not this type of products, i mean, you cant find here anything extra to anything....
Buying it from there could cost me more than i should spend for a mounting bracket... lets try with this... :D

The Compal was the barebones for the Sager NP2098. The Compal service manual goes through the disassembly steps except for one thing;it does not mention that when you try to take the original hdd out of its caddy, there is plastic with a pull tab that is taped very firmly to the hdd and another which is taped to one entire side of the case.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing.

I haven't used the ODD since I got the notebook and I have a ton of drives.

If I leave the screw out that secures the ODD/HDD Caddy in place I can slide in different drives in and out without opening the bottom constantly.

so, who's upgraded their 560m's for the 570m or 580m? is it even possible? it's horrible that the early adopters get left in the dust so quickly! :(

These models use the Dynaudio Tech Speakers which are about as good as it gets in a laptop. I know 606 pages are a lot to read, but these awesome speakers have been commented on many, many times in this thread.

They will fill the room with sound, and people in the next room will tell you to turn them down even before you get to full volume.

    Hi Fellas,

I bought my laptop from powernotebooks.com and specifically after speaking with Donald (Thank you Donald for everything). After customizing it with faster RAM and Intel 510 SSD, I had the order placed and it was shipped. I realized after that I do enjoy eye popping colors so I wanted the 90% Gamut screen and read that Intel may be reliable but not as fast. I contacted Donald and he was more than understanding, helping me decide on the SSD also. He asked UPS to return to sender, while in transit, and replaced the screen and installed Patriot wildfire 120GB sata 3 NAND w/ sandforce SSD.

I received my laptop a few days ago and it runs BF3 and other games without a single hitch and laptop is super fast at boot up and performing any task.

I just wanted to say that the keyboard is amazing and has no problems at ALL. The speakers are AMAZING... The audio levels I keep at 25% and even that is really really loud. The screen is so beautiful, i was playing SWTOR with my buddy and he was just drooling over how beautiful the screen and colors looked. I used to use headsets while gaming or even watching any movies but I do not need any headset anymore.

The one touch buttons are really nice to use and that star in the middle of the screen is not a bother at all, on a 17 inch screen!

Touch pad is the best I ever had, very responsive and not a heavy touch required and is well built.
Amazing build, amazing service and a great buying experience of a superb laptop!

Below are pictures...Sorry for bad lighting LOL

Yes, it's always nice to hear when someone is so satisfied with their notebook.

Having both screens, I totally agree with gogeta2006 on the 90% gamut screen. Now how about posting some Vantage & 3DMark11 screenshots?

    Congratz & Enjoy!

I think all backlit keyboards on Windows machines do this. I don't use sleep mode with this computer but I did with my Asus G51 and it would fade in and out.

    When did they start?
    What are the system specs?
    Have you added anything?
    Have you checked your temps?
    How often do they happen?
Is there any rhyme or reason when they happen?

I always use mine plugged in as well...but I have my battery totally removed..and plug the power directly into the laptop...I think this may ensure better battery health long term (not that I'll prob use it on battery too often)......

Makes sense. I never really thought of that. Do you know for sure that keeping the battery in while it is plugged in shortens it's life? I thought that once the battery hits a certain percentage, it stops requesting a charge and all power bypasses the battery.

If you're normally operating off the AC Power Adapter with the battery inserted it's a good idea to run on battery power once or twice a month till the battary has about 10% remaining before plugging the AC Power Adapter back in.

Set the power options to give a warning when 10% remaining.

I'm actually not entirely sure that is the scenario..but my point is..let the battery run down pretty low...take it out and store it in a safe place...it just seems to make more sense to me than to keep it in..the only advantage I can think of to having a battery in while running on AC power is for protection in case of a sudden power outage...

I have heard this as well...but what are your thoughts on my practice of just not using the battery at all??

That will work also.Store the battery in a cool dry place with about a 40%~50% charge in it.

If you are not using battery at all you should at least recharge your battery to around 60% once a month. if you don't charge it will be at deep-discharge and battery cells will die completely.

Or wrap the battery and put it in the fridge because at 0*C it only lose 2% capacity per year:

    Hi,

I'm not a GT780 owners yet but i'm already ordered a GT780DX-406US model from e-bay few days ago, it will arrive next tuesday.
I learned a lot here, thx for that.

I'm thinking to buy this ram:
    8GB (2x4GB) Kingston HyperX laptop memory DDR3 1600 PC3 12800 KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G
It makes any sence to put this ram in the GT780 or better to keep the original 1333MHz ram.
I'm afraid I will not get any advantage on it because of the intel's (Sandy b.) cpu's dual-channel DDR3 memory controller is only rated up to 1,333MHz.

i think what he wants to know is if the faster ram will make his system faster or if he'll have to OC to make full use of the faster ram.

can anyone confirm the system bus (and cpu speed) have a little more "give" for this to happen?

if not, then save your money, it won't do any good if the system is already at max speed.

Not everything from Intel is true.

I know for a fact that Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 PlugnPlay 204 pin so-dimms work with the i7 2670QM.I've had 4 x 4GB in my system working perfectly.

There was so little advantage to them in my system so I parted company with them and put DDR3-1333 back in.

BTW,today a new version of the Realtek HD Audio driver, build 6.0.1.6537 made it's way to the Internet on station-drivers.

The driver will uninstall the previous driver>reboot>install the new driver and reboot again before being finished.

Interesting! I'd love to know what's going on there.. In the same way that CPU's coming off the line are classed based on what they can do in a stable fashion, I suspect it's probably the same for the speed of the integrated memory controller on the CPU die as well. Perhaps the 2670 is rated for 1333 and some but not all could perhaps handle 1600Mhz stable depending on how lucky you are. :)

paladin44 has posted many times in this forum about the fact that DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1866 does work with mobile i7 processors.

    I don't know about all brands but the HyerX 1600 PnP(grey heatspreader) 4 x 4GB works.

I believe paladin44 has said that HyperX 1866 PnP will also work up to 12GB without blue screens?

You can also see this MSI 16F2 review for 2 x 4GB DDR3-1866 working
