All they ask from you after opened the lid is to press or click something and I don't think it's too much. You are going to do something with your laptop after lid is opened aren't you? :)

I'm wondering why this thread and all the very hard work of -=$tR|k3r=- is not in the "NBR Amazing Content Contest - Additional Prizes!"

I've never read any of the threads that are in the contest.

    658. I had to downgrade downgrade to a single hard drive and a 4x blu ray to meet my budget requirements, but I did get the 4gigs of ram for free and upgraded to the IC diamond thermal compound.

I plan on upgrading to a samsung 830 SSD once the budget allows for it.

Also, im sure this is a dumb question, but which USB drives are the 3.0 drives?

The 658 with 1 hard drive and a DVD was what i recommended to some people in my posts.

The USB 3.0 ports x 2 are on the left side between the card reader and the vent.

They have some blue colored plastic inside.

The newest NEC/Renesas USB 3.0 driver is v2.1.28.1
    RENESAS/NEC Drivers & Firmwares

    Why the Samsung 830 SSD?Price?

If you don't want a SandForce 2281 SSD like the new Intel 520 series then take a look at the Corsair Performance Pro.

SandForce drive perform best with compressable data while other controllers do well with uncompressable.

When viewing benchmarks look at the 4K numbers.About 80% of daily disk access is files sizes of 16K and lees and most of them are 8K or smaller writes.

Good choice on the Samsung 830. It's one of the most reliable SSD's you can get. I have one in my MSI and so far it's worked flawlessly...And fast!

All SATA III SSD's are about the same when it comes to 4k speeds which is what you want to look at. You will not notice a difference between them in real world performance. Samsung and Intel are the most reliable SSD manufacturers today. If you read reviews like I did when purchasing mine, you will see most every review pick the Samsung 830 over everything else due to it's reliability and speed.

i opted for the crucial m4, its excellent, the throughput without compression is amazing and twice that of sandforce based. Makes me think what they could do if they introduced just a lil bit of compression when needed like sandforce drives. you gotta go with what you need. yes its for mostly non-compressible file transfers.

i tested my Ocz on the laptop and the throughput on uncompressed is not great, glad i went with something else.

the other choice i was going with was the Samsung 830 also, price was better on the Crucial.

The default CrystalDiskMark uses uncompressable date(non Sandforce).

    Choose 0-Fill in File>Test Data for compressable(SandForce).

Hi, I'm just curious about the difference between the 3GB model and the 1.5GB model. I've found in some french site that the 3GB is less overclockable than the 1.5GB version. Could this be true? Would you have any ideas why?

This is because I face some problems like blinking black triangles when I set clocks to 720&1800 or 710/1800 but they go away at 700/1700.

I have 3GB. Don't you also have the 3GB, because you sound very confident at those clocks.

Or maybe there are other things that I don't know?

I don't think I've had my hands on any laptop recently (and that's been a lot) that automatically came out of sleep mode when the lid was opened. Always requires pressing the power button. I have seen laptops in the past which do this, however.

I have an issue with Intel wifi 6230 card. It keeps dropping connection and not auto-reconnecting after that. Same problem occurs with driver ver 14.3.0.6 and ver 15.0.0 . I rolled back to v14 cause v15 added the "back-from-sleep" issues and would not connect unless I restarted or manually disable wifi and then enable it.

    Tried the following:
    - update the latest drivers - failed had to roll back
    - disabled n-mode and forced g-mode - failed

Not sure what else I can do... it is not my router cause the issue manifests itself everywhere else and my phone and other laptop has no issues holding the connection.

Any thought/ideas of what else I could do?

P.S. A LOT of thanks to Ken from Gentech PC. My demands were a bit "special" but he managed to accommodate all my needs and was very polite throughout our order process. You can really see that he likes his job :)

Can someone link me to a good Car Power Supply or Power inverter for the car that will allow me to play during my downtime in the car? I know it'll have to be a pretty decent Power Inverter. I'm in a 2011 Ford Fusion if that matters.

Glad you received the laptop. :)

For the wireless card you can try this:

1: Go to device manager > Network adapter

    2: Double click Intel 6230

    3: Click Power Management tab

4: uncheck the box says Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Whole post edited. OK so I researched a bit and found out caibrating color display in laptops are PITA and needs those calibration apps and hardware like spyder etc. But what Im really just trying to do is adjust brightness and gamma in my NVIDIA settings. The thing is, while I am adjusting the brightness in the NVIDIA settings, the display adjusts for a about half a sec based on what brightness you set, BUT then reverts back to the original brightness of the monitor. Even if I set it to the max brightness, Id still get the original brightness. Any ideas guys?

Follow the advice from Ken from GenTech posted above.

If you still have issues then you should pop up the Control Bar about an inch(3cm) and see if the antenna wires are both fully connected to the wireless card. The black wire to connection #1 and the gray wire to connector #2.

Don't lift the Control Bar too far out of the case or the ribbon cable will come out of it's socket. If that happens insert the ribbon cable back into the socket and press the black lever down to secure it.

Disconnect the power cord and remove the battery before lifting out the Control Bar.

I use a thin plastic knife between the shiny plastic of the Control Bar and the dull plastic of the case to pry the Control Bar up as shown in the attached photo.

The 3rd picture shows the Control Bar out of the case with the ribbon cable still connected. The card in that picture is the Bigfoot Killer 1103 with 3rd antenna.

Dang, I look at your sig and I feel underpowered, haha. Very nice build.

I'd say it varies from seller to seller, some may want the non functional SSD, the others may want the entire system for "testing".

Hi guys, can someone tell me how to turn off the optical output on windows ? I tried to connect the notebook to my home theater through a toslink cable, but now my internal speakers aren't working. I don't know where to disable it, and the red light is always on from the green connector.

    Please help.

I haven't opened mine yet, so I apologize if the answer would be obvious if I had. Wrt the bigfoot nic and that 3rd antenna. Is the 3rd antenna already installed, just not connected for cards that don't support 3? I have a stock gt783r w/the Intel card.

Also how have you found the 1103 to be in real world performance as compared to the stock NICs? Does it really make a difference? Is it just getting/maintaining a connection that you find better or just throughput/latency reduction?

Just trying to see if I should source one and go through the effort of installing it. Oh, will the card run ok w/only 2 antenna if the 3rd did not exist?

    Thanks!

No there was absolutely no power to the touch bar. I didn't even realize until after I exchanged it for a new unit that certain functions work w/out being in windows and having the s-bar application running. The old unit did nothing. I did not wish to try prying it as it was only 2 days old and well within my ability to return it to Fry's for an exchange. This is what I did and the new unit appears to function as it should.

Yeah, I didn't want to risk leaving any evidence of me opening it just in case Fry's would deny my returning it for an exchange.

I had tried that and loading default CMOS settings as well as a wipe/reinstall w/recovery disks. No love.

I thought that also, but a full restore w/recovery media should have fixed something like that. I didn't realize, before I had the exchanged machine in hand that any touch on the glyphs of that bar, except P1, cause the orange LED under the glyph to illuminate regardless of if there's any software that knows how to deal with such touches working behind it. The behavior of the original unit was that it did absolutely nothing after that first boot. Since I did nothing aside from have it hibernate, bag it back up and put it in the box, I'm guessing that it was likely a loose connection and could well have been fixed by the other's proposed operations. However, it _could_ have been a true and real failure of the device. I have no way to tell now.

I would like very much to thank everyone for all of the excellent assistance you provide here. It's very swell of all of you.

Now I just need to muster the gumption to go through the ram-under-the-keyboard upgrade process. Until I saw someone ask about it here I thought all the slots were accessible from the big plate on the bottom. It's quite a bit more involved to get to those other slots.

    Thanks again!

The 1103 card has 3 antenna connectors on the chip, so yes you can upgrade it.. It certainly runs with just 2 antennas though. I have been nothing short of very impressed with the 1103. I got the 3rd antenna mod, so I cant speak for what the 1103 is like with 2 antennas, but with the 1103 I'm seeing WiFi networks down the street that I've never seen before. I can go anywhere on my property and get a great signal. Latency is like wire speed. They are really good. Which Intel card did you go for? When I built my barebones system from GenTechPC, I had the option of three:

    - Intel Advanced-N 6230 Wireless-N + Bluetooth Combo Card
    - Intel Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250
    - Intel Ultimate-N 6300 802.11 a/b/g/n Wireless LAN with 3rd antenna mod

I have the 1103 with the 3 Antenna mod and the card is a beast. My prior Intel card could never give me a latency below 15ms but now, I get a latency of no more than 5ms. My house is three stories and before, there were a couple of spots that I could only achieve 3 bars but now, there isn't a place I go in my house without full bars. Also, when I'm at my Firehouse, I can get two or three bars when others don't even see the network as a option. Overall, I am very happy I spent the extra $60.

My camera was recalled due to enviromental concerns.

My cameraman is down with the flu.

The lighting crew is in the dark about notebooks.

The sound crew is mum about doing this.

The hands model eloped to Washington State to marry her girlfriend.

Thank god my keyboard works without key press errors.

I guess until someone ships me a Pro Studio Video Camera and my crews come back my humble words and photos previously posted will have to suffice.

Finally was able to update my EC firmware to 4.19 and bios to 1761_30H on my GT780DX yesterday.

EC Firmware 4.19 is for Backlight Keyboard Systems only.

The links to the bios files were not working for me until yesterday.

If you need flash EC firmware, please download from below link.
    Wikisend: free file sharing service

    How to flash EC:

    MSI Bios 1761_10H and 1761_30H
    MSI Global ? Notebook - GT780DX(GT780DXR)

    MSI bios flashing tool:

After flashing the bios turn off the notebook and remove the battery and power cord for about a minute before putting them back in and powering up.

When powering up press the DEL key to enter the bios to reset the settings ei AHCI/RAID,Date,Boot Order etc.

That has to turn off by itself when you unplug the toslik cable. Try to disable it in the realteck icon. I don´t have my laptop right now. You can look for an option named spdif.

    Good luck.

If you want information about your GTX570M I suggest you use GPU-Z and not CPU-Z

    Download TechPowerUp GPU-Z v0.5.9 | techPowerUp
