What were saying is that Newegg it's known for repacking returns and sending them back out as new. They did it with my Yamaha receiver. If they take it back, my advice would be to order from a reseller.

Isnt it UPC ? I have also a cheap internet from them and TV package which includes quite a lot of HD channels and stuff for around 40$ now.

Wireless i can pull around 9-10mb/s on this Intel 6230, it was during the times of bad signal or whatever, havent tried it after the region fix since now i am using Samsung TV as an external monitor and use Kat6 cable. And when i connect it via Kat.6 cable i get around 14,5mb/s. Considering my maximum download speed should be around 15mb/s thats a very good thing.

I was thinking, if its a big upgrade from 6230 to the Bigfoot killer as i would like to get one when Ivy Bridge/Kepler comes around. Its a bit more expensive, and i havent found out any info yet.

Also, congratulations to Striker and i hope you will enjoy your new beast laptop. The excitement when you get it, bring it home and start unboxing it.....This stuff never gets old enough now, does it Striker :D ?

Coming from TERA, sadly, yes with its unoptimized engine. Skyrim also had some problems until i applied some tweaks, it was almost unplayable due to the FPS leaks or whatever. Battlefield 3 is intense as well but seems well optimized and runs at 60 FPS. Running it on medium so i get stable 60FPS because playing on my TV with some feature called Motion+ that uses 100hz technology for smooth movement, it looks laggy when it not 50-60FPS. Generally very smooth, better then normal monitor.

I wonder when i get the Samsung 40" 3D TV that utilizes 400hz, will it be 4 times as smooth *pretends* ? :D

Sure. Photoshop runs flawlessly even for the little i do in it. Currently working on a project for TERA Europe, i have a document that is 680px X 6000px.

3 weeks without restart, 300 tabs in Nightly, lots of youtube, streams and stuff as i watch Dota 2 streaming and tournaments as well as TERA streams.

Google Chrome about 100 tabs various junk few streams as well. Couple of youtube pages, if you will.

Photoshop runs smoothly even then, it doesnt lag or anything, might take a few second when i import a big object directly from chrome as smart object, other then that its fine.

Games that would push this laptop ? Plenty. BF3, Skyrim, Witcher 2, TERA online, Metro 2033 and generally any game that doesnt run at 30-60 FPS on highest details on a GTX560 ( could be compared to 570M i guess ) :p

    How?

I have absolutely no setting to change the frequency.

The CPU didn"t see the 1600 mhz memory, and of course clocked it donw to 1333 mhz.

    How you are doing it?

It should just be plug and play. What CPU do you have, and exactly what memory are you using? Is your memory XMP?

    another one :)

    how man?

did it see them 1600mhz just by plugging them in?

I got the Kingston XMP HyperX 8GB SODIMM DDR3 KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX and for me it sees them at 1333MHz.

Got no setting in bios to change anything.

    hi Paladin44!

Yeah, pnp is the only way I can explain it as well.

Yes memory is XMP (2xKingston XMP HyperX 8GB SODIMM DDR3 KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX), I"ve added above the CPUID screenshot.

I"ve got the MSI gt780dxr (433nl) with i7-2670qm and now 4x4gb ddr3 , i"ll do the signature righta away, thanks for pointing out.

So, if it didn"t see my ram as 1600mhz as pnp, can I do anything about that? It's a pity if not to run at 1600mhz, at least to tighten the timings .....

The problem is XMP. That won't work at 1600MHz because you cannot change your memory profile in your BIOS, so it will clock back to 1333MHz. Get the Kingston without the X on the end of the part number.

Could someone build me a decent barebones MSI 1761 with backlit keyboard that can be around $1100?

Games playing: BF3, WoW, SC2, SWTOR and a few others. Would like them on max with 2-3 hours of battery life if possible.

    ^--^

    Around $1,100??

I don't see how since that is well below cost if you need Windows 7.

2-3 hours battery life while gaming...that isn't possible either.

Please don't shout the messenger...but neither of those desires can be met.

I installed it on a single hard drive and have no problem accessing the bios.

So far the only issue is with the incompatibility of the Bigfoot Network Manager v298

Wireless with the Bigfoot Killer 1102 and 1103 is achieved with an Atheros built in driver

I installed W8CP using a USB flash drive on which I unpacked the ISO using the Microsoft USB/DVD Tool.

As with Windows 7 the USB stick needs to be removed during the 1st reboot of the installation or the installation will start from the beginning after the reboot.

The MSI utilities S_Bar,KLM,Lock Indicator, battery calibration,Cinema Pro,NVIDIA VGAOC all work.

Verde driver 295.73,Realtek HD Audio 6.0.1.6559,Realtek Lan,and Renesas USB 3.0 and Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader are good.

To install the FREE YouCam app and others from the MS Store make sure the time is set correctly.

Hello everyone. Any users here from a tropical and hot country like the Philippines? Planning to buy a barbone 1761 from gentechpc next month (my cousin will be the one who will buy it for me). And with temps here this summer (well all year round +/- 3 degrees) in our country ranging from 30-35 degrees celsius, hows it going to effect the temps of the gpu and cpu? I'm concerned because I already overheated 3 laptops before (HP, DELL, and ACER). I really want my next laptop purchase which will be used for work when in the office, and games/media which will be connected to a HDTV when home, to last me at least 2 years.

I'm from the Philippines, although my new laptop hasn't arrived yet here. Gentech is a good choice, my choice :) I also had somebody else do the dirty works lol (buying, bringing). At the moment, my Dell has a big fan/exhaust underneath it. I drilled a big hole under my custom-made desk at home, directly under my laptop. It's true, it won't survive at room temperature without any cooling solutions/help. I will still employ DIY cooling stuffs when I get my GT780. And even when I'm at the office (with AC on), I will also have my own DIY cooling solution for my laptop.

Upgrading the stock CPU to an i7 2670QM and the slow stock hard drive to a 750GB 7200rpm brings the cash price up to a bit over $1200.

If you need a copy of Windows 7 HP you'll have to add about $105 more.

Give all the resellers listed in post#1 a call and see what each has to say.

Besides the money cost there's other things to consider when choosing whom to buy from.

MSI's generally have very good cooling as they use high quality heatsinks/fans. My GTX 570m runs very cool even after overclocking it. You will be fine.

By the way, Gentech is a very good choice. Make sure you get the IC Diamond thermal paste installed. If you upgrade the CPU, they will apply it for free. Otherwise it's a $25 upgrade. Either way, Gentech will make sure it's applied correctly and will even run stress tests to make sure temps are within normal operating limits.

I never quite understood what the Bigfoot Wireless Network manager is used for. I disabled it thinking it was just another piece of software running in the back ground.

What do you use it for?

Hey there fellow kababayan hehe.. So adding additional cooling solution is a must. i think i'll just buy a cooling pad + AC inside the room. and yes, we really need someone to do the dirty work for us haha! but i think its impossible to bring it home without removing it from the box. i'll just miss the unboxing part which will suck hehe.. I'll just buy the barebone 1761 though without a HD. installing a HD and Windows should be no sweat right?

Thanks for the reply. yes gentechpc has been answering my questions non stop hehe.. really good customer service!

After you initially setup your Bigfoot wireless card using the settings available mainly under Network and priorities you can turn the manager off.You don't need it any more.

I'm on Windows 8 right now and using the newest Atheros driver.

I'll install inSSIDer and see how my connect strength is on both bands.

Windows 8 is quite a bit different than Windows 7 so there's a learning curve here.

I took one of my SSDs out to make room for this mechanical hard drive with W8CP until a caddy arrives for the optical drive bay.

Just did the speedtest.net that's in my signature with the W8CP stock Atheros Osprey driver with the Killer 1103.

Do you have the backlit keyboard and the KLM Utility software installed?

Pressing the Fn and F6 keys together should enable the camera. When you press them a popup briefly appears showing a WebCam.

You can also click on the WebCam icon in the S-Bar Utility.

No wonder gt780 and gt783 so many promotions going on since lots of companies are eager to sell away MSI GT780/783 by promotions.

I just heard from a friend that is working as a flyer , he says the GT70 will have everything upgraded to third generation .
The Second generation Dynaudio will be 5.1 instead 2.1 .....

Everything he told me was all upgrade to the third generation , afterall so many things happened in Cebit such as G75 from asus , somehow i am 75% believed what he said

But i still do not get how he know since the event will not start until tuesday or so . Maybe he heard from his friend or something or another stupid rumor.

Obviously if the new series comes out , most of people here who has GT780/GT783 eventually go for it since it is not only CPU , GPU upgrade .

The new chipset , audio , optional 3D screen will be built into it.

My understanding is that as of now the gt68x and gt78x series don't support XM Cpu Bios overclocking, which is a pity since it forces me to go for either an Alienware/Sager which can actually be overclocked. If somehow Msi now supports overclocking I'd definitely consider it as my next gaming laptop (hopefully the new G Series will support XM overclocking, though I'm skeptical)

Sounds sexy, i guess this week at Cebit we will get a better idea of what the next gen Msi G series is all about. Sadly im a bit pessimistic of the "next gen Nvidia" gpu's as they seem to just be rebranded fermi 5xx cards, and was hoping that Msi would support true Next Gen Gpu's, namely the AMD GCN cards. I guess everything will be made known this month!

Seems like some changes from the last models

The GT780R had design from some car I don`t remember the name from. Change of design?

Was the Dynaudio in GT780R first generation?

    Ivy Bridge

Rebadge of 500 series or 660M/680M (Kepler)?

What I find most interesting in reading this is the info about the Killer Lan.

This to me means a new Lan for notebooks from Bigfoot Networks that will replace the current Reatek Lan.

I've yet to connect using the wired Lan in my GT780DX since I get decent wireless speed.

****Interesting that an Engineering Sample CPU(ES) was used as the overclocked Extreme CPU.

Not so sure the Bigfoot LAN will replace the Realtek LAN entirely. I read in one of the web articles that this would be optional. I am sure MSI will produce a multitude of SKU's for global distribution, and as such, it's entirely possible we could see both LAN's utilized. Also, I am not real surprised at the use of an ES processor..... not too uncommon in early development, testing, or competitive OC circles.

    :)

Can you please provide a link to what you are talking about? I am missing something here. I would like to see this, because it sounds like you are suggesting their Vantage test was flawed, with PhySX enabled. Also, it was the 2920XM they used.

    :)

The Lan chip is normally soldered in the motherboard and to make it optional would mean an additional model?

The ES CPU was the 2920XM and quite old already for showing in mid November Winter Dreamhack.

Maybe MSI used them because they were supplied free from Intel/

Retail Boxed or tray version would have cost money.

Are you having fun today. :D :D :D

Yes, exactly..... two MB's, two LAN's. This is all speculative of course, but if the Bigfoot will indeed be optional, this suggest two MB's amongst the various SKU's.

Yep, I am having fun again...... trying to follow He1p again, and darn if I am not confuzed, AGAIN!

(sitting here, twittling thumbs, waiting for He1p to send me that Vantage link..... looks like it may be a long wait)

Just to drop in for some feedback:

I was having problems with my wireless network at home (DIR-815). Updating to the latest (jan2012?) wireless drivers for the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 130 fixed it. Went from 5-10% packet loss when standing right next to the router to the expected 0%, from 43ms average ping time to 3ms. What's weird is that the wireless worked perfectly when I got my laptop (sept2011), and the issues started only recently, without changing any setting on the router.

Maybe some Windows update screwed something up, but whatever, latest drivers work perfectly.

When you say latest Intel Wireless Pro drivers are you referring to WHQL v15.0.0.75 or Official 14.3.0.6?

    Official Intel v14.3.0.6:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det..."&DownloadType=Software+Applications&lang=eng

    Wireless Pro V15.0.0.75:
intel drivers pour chipsets Reseaux (Lan) & Wifi (Wireless)

Ok, now I understand. One moment the topic is on the record breaking 2920XM and the new upcoming MSI releases...... then all the sudden we are talking about a skewed Vantage score. I was seriously confuzed there He1p, and I had no idea what the heck you were talking about. Thanks for the link...... and yes, that is a bad Vantage run on MSI's part. They failed to disable PPU (PhySX) in the Vantage settings prior to running the benchmark.

Crazy high CPU score, low GPU score?

    :)
