Well this msi gt 780 dxr all i wanna do is take back to the place of purchase and shove down everyones throats..
If it worked i would love it but the issues:
    - no charging issues but plugged in
    - pull the battery out and run off power only same crap random restarts..
    - random re boots if its below 100%...

I could go on forever here with this thing but i have a bitter taste of the build...

Im beyond pissed off i wasted 4 days dumping a intel ssd and tb slave into this thing wasted days setting it up to my liking and then left for the cold north for 3 years work.. First night gong show wouldn't power up then does and just shuts down. Close the lid and it would turn itself on and off for over 3 hours straight? The replacement when i get out of f-ing camp life if i get a replacement and don't have to deal with sending away to msi headquarters better be legit and not be the second lemon..

I kick myself for not going with the asus

You didn't mention where you bought it?
You didn't mention how you set it up and if you have any experience doing it?
Why would it work in one place and not another?
What's the chance of issues being pilot error?
If you bought an Asus you could rant on their forum!

Now if you'd came here to get help you went about it the wrong way.

An eye glass cleaning cloth with a bit of distilled watar on it.

Go side to side from the top down to the bottom and then from the bottom up to the top.

can you guys see what is where at touch-bar in the dark?
I have owned this for a week, and thought that it would be very nice if there is back-light behind the touch-bar too :)

I have one more question. it says the computer is plugged in, but the battery is not charging. is it defective? what should i do for charging battery then?

Just got mine on friday, still getting stuff set up and transferred over from my old lptop, but damn this is blazing fast compared to my old setup and the screen is absolutely beautiful.

i did find a perfect backpack for my use, the toshiba backpack for 18.4" laptops. tried it, very roomy and well built...and not flashy to call attention to what I have in it.

the samsung SSD is fast. I don't do benchmarks...but it boots up fast than my asus with intel SSD.

and the sound is awesome...tried out a bluray and hit the cinema pro button and was pleasantly surprised.. it sounded very nice annd loud and clear at max volume.

So far, so good, only game I have tried on it was Dragon Age II, trying to find my physical skyrim disc to try that out, too. I am not a huge gamer, but so faar so good.

    @WhatsThePoint

When someone comes into the thread flaming the notebook, I take a peek at their previous post history. Usually this will provide a glimps of their proficiency, thinking, and intent.

Folks like THIS, I generally advise that WE cannot help them, and that their complaints are directed in the wrong venue. Rather than complaining as such here, aren't they better directed to the place of purchase or the manufacturer? Complaining here they only waste their time, and our time. I would recommend this individual do EXACTLY what they say..... 'get that refund as soon as possible, and buy the Asus' they believe will make them happy. ;)

In this case, I have a hunch moving on to Asus will be better for all.

Some folks really don't want help, and some simply can't be helped.

    :)

Quick question. my gt783r is delayed until monday but I've been seeing a lot of ppl with bigfoot wireless cards in there gt783's. I purchased mine from Newegg. Will I void my warranty if I replace my wireless card with the 2 antenna Bigfoot? I'm not savvy enough to attempt the 3 antenna one.

EDIT ok I have another question as well. How does the screen scale down to lower resolutions. I had a Samsung LCD that looked horrible at lower than native res. Personally for games like Crysis I'd rather run 1280x720 or something lower on High settings and get better frames per second than use 1980x1080 and chug along at 29fps. Any Info on this would be very appreciated. I was expecting my laptop friday but I got a notice that it was delayed til Monday. Kinda like Christmas being 3 more days away as a kid! heh

When the battery reaches 100% charge, charging will cease, but it is also not uncommon for new lithium batteries to stop charging in the high 90 percentile ranges. This will stop happening once the battery has been through a few charging cycles...... a 'break-in' period if you will.

The user manual states the following:

Is anyone here running the Battery Calibration utility MSI has provided? As stated above, doing so once monthly will enhance battery life. A word of warning however...... battery calibration is a lengthy process (a couple hours), so do so when you have no need of the notebook for a while...... allocate time!

    :)

MSI should not have an issue with 'competent' replacement of the wireless card, however most doing this have done so through authorized custom building resellers. Naturally if you do this and botch the replacement, MSI then may take you to task on the warranty issue.

Also, the stock wireless card is a BT combo card, and BT functionality will be lost going to the BigFoot card. If you still need BT, you can remedy this by getting an inexpensive BT USB dongle.

Scaling down to lower screen resolutions will not be a problem with this notebook...... you'll like!

Congratz & Good Luck with your new notebook!

    :)

To bling it up a little after you've done the above, grab some turtle wax, and apply in a 'Wax On, Wax Off', circular motion. It also helps to protect the screen so it lasts a little longer, and in the long run you'll have to clean it less. You'll notice that when you put water on the screen it should 'bead' a little once you've done a successful application.

    ;)

you'd only turtle wax a gloss finish screen correct? I'd be suspicious of doing that on a matte finish.

I've never found that I needed one or proof that it would do anything to help.

I have a large thin cutting board that I place my notebooks on when they're not on a desk and on my lap.

Room temperature, properly performing fan, correctly applied quality thermal compound, clean heatsink fins and keeping the air intakes and exit vents unobstructed is usually enough.

A cooler only blows air at room temperature and cannot pass anymore through the notebook than the notebook's fan can handle.

I do. I don't need it but the one I use (Thermaltake) lowers the temps enough when playing BF3 to the point where my fans only kick into high gear for about 10 seconds every 15 minutes. If I play BF3 without the cooler, my fans pretty much stay in high gear the entire time. I also use the cooler because it raises the laptop up about two inches which makes it more comfortable for me.

Temps max out when playing BF3 at 68 Celsius without the cooler.

Temps max out at 65 Celsius with the cooler.

These temps are with my 570m overclocked with a 720 core.

Coolers blow room temperature air into the bottom of the notebook.Where does the air go?

Unless the notebook can exhaust the air faster using the internal fan there's no place for the forced in air from the cooler to go.

The internal fan blocks the air exit vents so the only way air can be exhausted is via the internal fan.

I just use my cooler for stand, I like the angle it places the keyboard on my desk. unlike with my old ASUS I had to use it when i played games.

still getting used to typing on the keyboard...its a different feel then what I was used to, and really no noticeable flex anywhere...but I think it has a longer key travel compared to my previous laptop...

How come my ultra setting bf3 temp goes up to 75c while my room is air contionered 21c and temp outside is average 28c

    No overclock

I also found out that the cooling pad is quite useless other than raise the notebook few inches and found out people are saying it interfere with air flow which I found it true

How do you clean heat sink fins

Using a dust cloth wiper or dust blower

This is normal and there is nothing that you can do to make it any better.

Like the above, I have the thermaltake cooler, but I just use it for a stand, I never plug it in for the fan. I like the angle and it also serves as a solid place for the notebook if I want to put is on the couch or bed. It was my original idea was to use the fan also, but it makes no difference in the cooling capacity of the notebook.

My GT783R arrived today from Newegg. I noticed right away that the battery is all scuffed up and the touch buttons on above the keyboard are all scuffed up too. Also raid-0 isn't initiated. I see 2 hard drives when I believe I should see one. The left speaker is buzzing at all volumes too. Kinda frustrating. The box was sealed so I believe this probably happened at the factory. Newegg is sending me a replacement. I wanna put my own scrapes on my laptop :)

EDIT btw this thing is beautiful! I'm gonna toy around with this one until my new one gets here :)

The clear film Ken is talking about can easily go un-noticed, and it does give the touchbar a scratched appearance. When you remove this, the touchbar should be pristine and blemish free. Also, it can be difficult to find an edge that will peel up..... take care. This same film also covers the webcam...... and even the 'SteelSeries' logo sticker.

Sounds as though something is loose. The touchbar simply snaps into place. Apply 'light' pressure around the touchbar and speaker to see if they are securely fastened. If you need to look further, disassembly info can be found HERE..... even a video.

On the webcams I have seen in this neck of the woods is a blue tinted film that's easily peeled off by hand but the Control bar and Steelseries plaque is not as simple. It requires the fine tip of something like the boxcutter I use.

Speakers buzzing, hissing, crackling and or sounding like rice krispies could be due to unshielded electrical interference from a nearby appliance or outlet.

is it normal with raid 0 to see 2 hard drives from the factory?

edit. When I used to do raid-0 I would only see one hard drive that would have the total storage capacity. i see one that has 832gb and the other has 554 gb.

i pressed lightly on the speaker and i felt it click in. no more buzzing. :) Gonna have to send back the one they are sending me i think. This is one hell of a laptop. Quite impressed and extremely pleased. The battery being scraped up is less of an issue to me than the speakers and the other stuff. so If thats all i have to deal with then im good :)

You are seeing two drive letters because your drives in RAID 0 are partitioned. If you don't like that you can go to Start and Search for Disk Management where you can delete the partition by right clicking in D: and click on delete volume. Then, right click on C: and click on Extend Volume. Then just follow the Wizard.

We use and sell the OCZ Synapse Cache SSDs and they are great. They eliminate your drive management so you don't have to worry about where you are saving things, and you get better usage out of your drives. The only hitch is you only get 1/2 of the stated usable space because they use the other half for what can be called 'maintenance'. When used with your main mechanical drive they work very similarly to the 750GB SATA III 6GB/s 7,200 RPM Seagate XT NCQ Hybrid w/8GB SSD Hard Drive but with 32GB or 64GB of usable SSD instead of only 8GB.

Can we please post such as this in it's proper place..... like HERE? After all, this is the GT780/783 Owner's Lounge.

If we do not give consideration to this, it can lead to pages of bantering over model comparisons, trolling, and off-topic discussion.

Also, if you want to have such discussions on comparisons, SSD's, GPU's, etc., this can be discussed in forum locations where these are the topic..... or create new threads where appropriate.

    Thanks.....

    :)

Im having some issues with the Video display on my GT780, with the 560m. Every couple weeks to a month, it seems that the display drivers or something crap out and start causing issues with games.
As shown in the SS included from LoL. Even loading the uengine benchmark causes the driver to shut down and crashes that program. Ive uninstalled the Nvidia drivers, direct x. Only thing I can figure out that fixes it is a fresh reformat and recovery thru the bios. Nothing else seems. To fix it. My temps have never been high, And it rarely happens during a gaming session, just when I start one. Any ideas?

The issue persists with the stock one from MSI's website, or the current one's from nvidia's website. Only a recovery to factory settings makes it work, then I can update to current drivers and it works fine. Then randomly some time later it has this issue usually after coming home from work and its been sitting all day. hibernate is disabled, and it never happens whenever I come from sleep mode. I havent tried updating any bios or anything. And not imve having issues getting device driver has stopped working and kernel issue. If i can fix the issue by some magical combination of reinstalling of something i'd preffer it. No new drivers or program installed since the last time it worked and stopped working. Now the driver reboots with windows desktop/chrome

When updating NVIDIA Verde drivers it's a good idea to choose Custom Installation.

In custom installation uncheck the parts you don't want or need but check the box at the bottom of the Custom screen to clean install the new driver by 1st uninstalling the old driver.
