This doesn't have much to do with MSI but I was wondering what the benefits are of the new GeForce 675s? Looking at Nvidia's site the 580 still gets better 3Dmark scores.

.the 675m is not a kepler, but a rebrand based on the old 40nm die. You want 680m which will sport the true 28nm kepler core
You can take a 580m and flash it to a 675 right now
The specs of 675m (which are identical to 580m)...its a complete rebadge
GeForce GTX 675M
GPU and Process 40nm
CUDA Cores 384
GPU Clock 620MHz
Shader Clock 1240MHz
Memory Bus 256-bit
Memory Bandwidth 96GB/s
Memory Up to 2GB GDDR5
The 680m will be the true kepler but it will be way expensive .... since GT70 cost 3000 Euro .. maybe 680m will be 4500 euro -

"I thought the case was made with aluminium or is it 783-625 only?"
It has an aluminum back but any aluminum is really decoration that does not help structurally. -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
I find the build quality to be very good. -
Hmm i did hear seldom compaints about the structural buold of the 78x series. Rare but still there, i guess there is always a problem with something and anything, nothing is perfect but msi does a good job keeping it close o perfect, although im somewhat disappointed that the structire around the hinge is not reinfored metal and just plastic, i would have thought they would have learnt that, its the year 2012 after all.
-
Maybe tomorrow I will take a couple pics. I tried epoxy around the plastic area where the hinges are for some support. It was not enough. The Gt780 is quite weak in this area. One of the screw that go through the bezel must be broken. Opening the laptop pulls the bezel enough on the left side that it actually opens all the way up to near the camera. I think I will be okay with some more epoxy tomorrow to take the flex out. I was built to be light I guess and I think they even relied on areas of 2 way tape around the screen itself to act as support. My screen is a great glossy replacement and no way am I putting 2 way tape around the edge to use it as support. That just leads to the screen starting to bleed light.
I went in and just used hot glue for support. I don't care how good the build is because it really is not compared to any other brand I have had. I wouldn't be upset if it was just an easy fix like it should be but MSI gave very little that I can strengthen to. Almost like they built it to fail. I know i a few months I will get a new laptop anyway but still not right. I took a couple pics but only one is okay enough to post but very poor also. I am only posting it because someone seems to want proof this can actually happen. Looks like a smear but is a crack that is epoxied up.
-
Looks like a horrible place for a crack. Sucks. A similar thing happened to my lenovo book before, but thats because i kinda lifted the laptop from the screen a bit, putting all the stress on the hinge

Hi there,
excuse me if my question has already been asked or if it's not the right place to do that, but i don't feel like reading the 700 previous pages.
I bought a GT780DX 8 month ago, and everything was working fine, until last week. I have now incredible temps on both the GPU and the cores. (70°c for the GPU, and 75 for each cores, in IDLE state !).
When it comes to recent games (SC2, ME3, BF3...), GPU raise to something over 110°c, and cores to 95+, causing the computer to shutdown by itself.
What should i do ? As i'm french, i heard that the warranty seal does not apply in my country due to EU legislation. So should i try opening the beast to see what's going wrong ? Or should i send it to the after sale services ?
Thanks for your help ! -
how did you make that crack ?

Who own new GT783 with GTX580? Can You play games B3 or Crysis without overcloking? How hot this run in games and idle? Fanis louder than Asus G series?
-
BF 3 = ultra settings are more better on single player but you can still go for ultra but i prefer high settings because there are like 64 players in the game shooting..
So far the only game gave me a headache is BF3 since in open areas you usually get only 35fps while in building 45 - 60
Oc to 700++ able to get 10 fps boost but i do not want to damage my gpu just to have " 10 " fps more .
Not safe to OC on notebooks always in my opinion even though i get 80c after and overclocking is really for experienced users because OC too high will get crash , freeze and BSOD too
If you want to play BF3 100% smooth and rich , i recommend you go for dual graphic cards notebook such as m18x . sager 9270
GT783 is more on the mid end -
Hi
Gonna buy a new computer before Diablo 3 releases. Only game i plan on playing is Diablo 3.
would i5-2430M be enough or would u go for the i7-2670QM CPU?
I'm planning on waiting for the GT70 if it releases before the release of D3, but if the price is too stiff i'll be going for the older models. -
i think i'm the only one here that has a 2430m. Battlefield 3 on ultra with antial. off runs at 40-45 frames with an overvolted / overcloked gpu. And the cpu is not 100 percent used, it's 70-80 and at times 90 so I don't think it impacts performance.
With that being said, get the i7 if you have the money. It's worth it on the long run. -
I'm debating between MSI GT780DX-406 or the PowerPro R 12:17 (which is an MSI 1761 Barebone):
Both have the same specs:
17.3" 1920x1080 Matte screen
Intel Core i7-2670QM
1.5GB GTX 570M
500GB 7200 HDD
IC Diamond Thermal Compound applied to CPU + GPU
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
So, my decision lies on the fact that these are offered by 2 different vendors, and the price for the MSI GT780DX-406 is $18 less after mail in rebate.
What do you guys recommend? The only thing I'm nervous about is that I never owned an MSI before, and not sure how good the cooling system is (which is why I want the thermal compounds added). Does the MSI GT780DX-406 have 2 fans (1 for GPU, 1 for CPU)? How happy are you guys with the GT780? I saw in a different forum that the owners of the PowerPro R 12:17 are extremely satisfied with the product (which is an MSI Barebone).
Does the MSI GT780DX-406 have an ExpressCard slot?
Lastly, I never purchased anything from Xoticpc.com. Did you have an overall good experience with this company?
Thank you all for your nuggets of wisdom! -

There's 7 screws to remove in order to take off the bottom cover.
MSI Notebook GT780 --- Disassembling - YouTube
After you remove the bottom cover the fan can be lifted out of the notebook by removing 1 screw and disconnecting the power cable to the motherboard.
When the fan is out the cooling fins of the heat pipes from the graphics card and CPU are exposed.
Using a can of compressed air clean out the fins.Use a small cosmetics brush to remove any stubborn dust.
Now take a small brush and clean the fan blades and then blow out the remaining dust with the compressed air.
If temps are still high then a new application of a quality thermal compound might be needed after fully removing the old TC with something like Tuniq TR-1
The brand of the quality thermal compound isn't as important as proper application. -
I like this MSi laptops because very easy acces to fan, gpu, cpu for maintenance. Not possible on my asus g73.

I'm considering an MSI laptop, but the keyboard colors and the various other LED blinkenlights are a deal breaker for me. Can you turn them all off permanently in the BIOS?
-
I have recieved a laptop bios update and an embedded controller bios update from MSI support. This is to try and resolve my Crucial m4 not staying connected at 6Gbs and dropping down to 3 Gbs, which should I update first the EC bios or the laptop bios. My gut tells me do the EC bios first because I have a stable laptop bios now and the EC bios comes after that, so get it updated on the known good laptop bios, then update the laptop bios. Thanks for some advice.
-
This happened to me before due to opening the laptop from one side(mine was left side),it was winter and sometimes my room gets very cold then kind of warm (stupid heater) so I assume my hinges was frozen at some point then I put too much pressure while opening or everytime I'm holding my laptop while laying down, there's nothing you can do now, next time try to open your laptop from webcam area(middle),clean those hinges, put some wd40 on it,make sure you have a stable room temperature.goodluck -
Anyone know if I can remove the mouse buttons (the same way you can pop off the keyboard buttons)?
Something is lodged under my left mouse button and it's making it hard to click every now and then.
Off topic: By the way, Just to update anyone who was aware of my saga a couple weeks ago... I sent my GT780R-014US back for the 3rd RMA, for the never-ending problem of the Rice Krispies crackling noise. I swear, they just sent it back without even removing the bubble wrap. Computer still makes a crunching/crisping noise constantly. Especially during gaming. The noise comes out of the keyboard, and I do my gaming with an Xbox 360 controller....Sigh............ -
Anyone know how to improve my RAID 0 with SSD? I have the GT780 with 2 vertex 3 ssd. I'm getting 300MB/s of Writing and 550MB/s of Reading, what should be the results for only one ssd, without RAID 0. Also, I've checked in intel rapid storage that one ssd is running in sata 3 and the other in sata 2. How many sata 3 ports this model have?

Do I need to do BIOS update, which is called 1761_30H in MSI official website?
I just installed a clean copy of window into my system, and installed all drivers that is in NoteBook Driver's CD that comes with this laptop.
I own GT780DXR-447, and the description of the BIOS above says "Added support for MSI GT783 and GT783R models."
I am wondering if I still have to install that BIOS above after done with all drivers, and a little confused because the description seems to say it's for GT783 and GT783R.
EDIT
After format, I can no longer see Blue-ray quality of screen even though I installed everything. I could opened the MKV files, but it turns out to be DVD quality even though it is blue-ray. I can no longer play game either with same quality that I played with before. can anyone help me with this issue please?
Thank you advance.
Thank you in advance. -

Hey All....for all those out there with Blu Ray Players...did your resellers include a media player that will play Blu Rays? If not, what software do you use to play them? I really don't feel like paying $99 for PowerDVD...I'm really disappointed that Xotic was happy to sell me a Blu Ray drive but didn't include any software to play them at all....Isn't it pretty standard to include software nowadays?? Anyway...any suggestions are much appreciated...

Hey all, I'm having a problem with my GT780. Currently running in Safe Mode with networking because normal startup is screwed.
Had problems which were likely RAM related, such as the entire system freezing while running Photoshop, Firefox and iTunes at the same time, even when at 40% memory usage. Photoshop (CS5.1) refuses to go past 500MB of RAM usage, when a few days ago it could use 4GB.
After I ran memtest86+, my startup time was like ten seconds or so (compared to the usual one minute or two), but I was unable to run any other program when I had one already running.
If I had Firefox open, I can't open Task Manager. If I have Task Manager open, I can't view processes for all users.
I don't want to open my laptop to check the RAM, because it's still under warranty. Without sending it to the service center, is there anything I can do (apart from memtest) to fiddle around with or activate/deactivate either one of my RAM sticks?
For the record, I have 2 x 4GB RAM, default configuration on the i5 version of the GT780 (1 stick accessible from underneath, 1 under the keyboard is what I think it is because BIOS shows the ram being at slots 1 and 3, or maybe 2 from underneath.) -
It most likely is the RAM.
Open the laptop to check the RAM does not void the warranty as long as you don't make any physical damage to it.

procceded to flash the laptop with

and immediately the intel RST reported sata 6Gbs and crystal disk mark is back to where it should be.
current RST is 11.0 -
Can anyone recommend a good place to purchase this from?
ive been looking at xoticPC. never had any experience with them. but thats about the only place i have found that looks like a decent place to purchase from -
-
ive always custom built my PCs. this is my first time looking at getting a laptop rather than building a new desktop. so im not too savvy on the best places to shop around for these.
i guess by decent i mean good prices / bang-for-buck, reputable techs that know what theyre doing, low hassle service/support
and apologies if theres reputable info in this thread. but im not exactly in the mood to search through 700+ pages -
GenTechPC
PowerNotebooks
XoticPC
Malibal
Mythlogic
Those are all reputable. There are a few more too. I recommend GenTechPC, best support and price I received (but Powernotebooks and Xoticpc were nice too). -

Also, many of the post within those 700 pages are comprized of folks too lazy to do a little of their own research, folks not in the mood to use search engines..... folks asking a myriad of REPEAT questions...... and folks too lazy to even READ. You are not going to become another one of these folks, are you? -
im going to try not to
usually im pretty good about my due diligence. but seeing as i only currently have internet at work, i have to do my research under the radar, if you know what i mean.
and damnit, it looks like i missed out on the march specials for this model... crappy -

I would try an uninstall and reinstallation of the WinDVD software. For grins and to see if it's functioning normally, pop-in a Blu-Ray movie, and see if WinDVD auto-launches. If not, go to your optical drive in 'My Computer', right mouse click, and select 'Play with WinDVD'.

Then in the extracted folder I right clicked on setup.exe and ran as administrator. All necessary files were installed.
When you insert a DVD or BD movie a screen comes up asking what you want Windows to do when you insert this type of disk.
Choose View More Options. There you will see Blu-ray disc movie.
From the drop down menu choose the program you want to play the BD Movie Disc.
Is WinDVD one of your choices? -

Can someone help me?
my OEM recovery system did not work anymore, and I don't know why. So I tried recovery 3 discs that I made on the first time of its arrival but that did not work either. I just kept on having a messeage that it fails during the process. I guess there is no flaw on the 3 discs, but the system itself has a problem so I failed in both ways.
It looks like I have no other options other than trying to install fresh copy of window, which keeps giving me another troubles of installing drivers. I used the drivers Disc that came with the laptop.
I did fresh install of window once before..As far as I remember, there was 4 sections, 1)OEM recovery, 2) I don't remember, 3) OS C drive, 4) D drive but at that time, I did not remove the OEM recovery part but erased everything in C and D drive and installed window on C drive.
Is there anyway that I could do to fix the problem so that I can use recovery system again?
Could anyone give me an advice realted to this problem? -
Well, my Asus G73JH has died again and it's time to move on.
It was a close call between the Alienware M17X R3 and the MSI GT783 but recorded 580M throttling issues with the Alienware put me off - I'll be saving a few quid (based on equivalent specs) too and so far (touch wood) my experience of MSI products (desktop motherboards and graphics cards) has been very good.
Another nice little bonus - it should be with me tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it.
