When you were installing Windows 7 did you install the f6flpy version of the Intel RST at the ADD DRIVER screen?

That's all that is really needed to get the AHCI enhancements and SATA bus updates.

The full exe of the RST has a lot of unneeded bloat.

IAStorDataMgrSvc is set to Automatic (Delayed Start) by default, you can try go to Administrator Tools> Services> Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology and change to Automatic.

Is it possible to stop the fans running up every minute or so, on high revs even on power saving mode, with graphics clocks turned down to minimum, while browsing internet or watching a movie? Even when I leave the laptop idle on night download withs screen turned off it runs high every so often. Sometimes it gets stuck and runs low/medium for a whole day if I don't reset it. I can leave blank screen, everything in background off and it still runs fan constantly (it will go high revs if I turn game on, but not down to idle). Is there a way to fix fan management? Graphics temp is like 33deg (51/100/135 idle clocks), cpu is 36-40deg showing 800Mhz 99.77x8 (idle mode).

i know what you mean, i leave it unattended & idle for a while, while i work on my other computer and the woosh is so annoying and not going to be RMA'ed for it.

i would like msi to address this.

i did notice however on a recent trip, i used the laptop unplugged allot and the fan didn't spin so loud , i could hear it but barely.

So if they would use the same thermal trigger values for fan speed when plugged in as those in the "on battery" profile, that would be the start of a quieter laptop i'm sure.

maybe there's a bios that already has that in here http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/616823-comprehensive-msi-unlocked-bios-xmp-support-thread.html

The clocks are going up and down, between 2.2GHz-2.9GHz, even when the cpu is under heavy load. How can I stop this. I tried ThrottleStop 4.0, 4.1 but it seems to be not working. The clocks are jumping all the time. I would like to run the cpu at 2.8GHz (4 cores 8 threads), only 3cores running above that. I need 4 cores at max speed. It is possible or not.

Hello, I've been reading this thread a lot, used the search engine but still can't find a solution. Maybe someone can help with this...

I own a gt780dxr of course, and lately I've been trying to update the nvidia drivers. Tried with 290.10 since it's the lastest whql even tho I read about the pink screen issues...and also with a previous one, anyway, I followed the guide on the first post to get a clean install.

After doing that I just couldn't get the drivers installed and had to use the recovery system stuff from win7 to get the old ones back. All the installers promted an error after the installation. I also tried install them from system administrator stuff on the control panel (right click on display, search for the folder manually and so on..)

I've also tried to install them on top of my current drivers 285.62, installation seems ok, but then I can't open NVIDIA control panel, and MSI Afterburner says it still on 285.62, so i guess the installation is still not OK.

So I wonder, anyone around has a remote idea of what might be going on? Thanks ;)

This is another one of those situations where I wish I could be behind your keyboard.

    Have you tried this......

    Driver Rollback/Removal Instructions

...... and after 'Removal' of the current driver, did you run 'Driver Sweeper', telling it to remove all 'Nvidia' remnants?

Here is some more suggested reading......

Guide on how to install the NVIDIA Display Driver under Windows 7/Windows Vista

Good luck & let us know how it goes.

    :)

From what you are describing, it sounds to me that your processor is performing normally...... and you are confusing this with 'throttling'. The processor is rated at 2.2Ghz, but is capable of bursting to 3.1Ghz based on system demands. By design, the clock frequencies will fluctuate all the time.

    Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM Processor
(6M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz)

Am I missing something here? Thus far, I know of no valid cases of the throttling issue (either CPU or GPU) in any GT780/783 notebooks..... other than a one or two cases wherein the PA was forced into overload (cut-out), or PA power was inadvertently lost. In either event, 'ThrottleStop' has not been the needed or proper remedy.

    :)

the fan speed is control by BIOS, maybe you can try update your BIOS to see if it makes difference.

    No the connector won't fit:

Thx for your answer. I know this is the normal operation (cpu).

The Microsoft flight simulator X does not like it. It needs a stable clock, the best if it's above 3.4 GHz. I cant reach this without a 29x0XM.

2670QM is enough for now. Actually it's surprised me, it's a very powerfull cpu. I get enough fps during the game. Unfortunatelly the fps waving between 14-60, because the clocks are fluctuate all the time.
I hoped the TS or another application can stop this....
So I have to live with it. :)

Another small problem - is there a way to shut down that annoying S-bar but keep the P1 button functional? I hate it when I make the speakers louder and it minimises to windows because that stupid slidebar comes up. But when I shut down s-bar the P1 stops working :/

Yeah, download the archive driver of choice, uninstall the current driver, use CCleaner again, and try driver reinstallation using the Nvidia guide I linked above. I have also added this guide link to the lead post. Older archived Nvidia drivers can be downloaded HERE.

    :)

Hmmmm, this is strange because your notebook has more than enough CPU & GPU. Are you running MSFT FLT SIM online? I am wondering if what you are experiencing is not just network lag.

Flight Simulator X: Minimum System Requirements

Flight Simulator X: Game performance is slower than expected

In any event, I suspect the issue is not processor related. Good luck, keep troubleshooting, and let us know what you discover.

Hey, just wondering how do you actually remove the front touch panel without damaging it? I am trying to change the wireless card but it just soo hard to pull the touch panel out, and am afraid of damaging it if done wrongly. Any tools i could actually use?

Thx again! This is more difficult. Belive me this is because of the CPU. This is not a network lag. I have six years experience with FSX and more than 10 years with MS filghtsim series. (FS2002, FS2004, FSX)
Do not belive what they wrote on those links whath you give me. Information on those sites it's just not true!!!

If You want to know more about MS FSX visit this site please:

There is huge knowlege about FSX.

I know every litle trick, tweaks about FSX. The OS and MS FSX tweaked perfectly on my laptop. I get a good performance. I'm happy with it for now.

The Touch Control Bar is held into the case with plastic snap conectors and no screws.

I insert a plastic knive between the end of the bar and the case on both ends and gently pry it up.Then with my fingers I complete the separation from the case.

Connecting the Control Bar to the mother board is a white ribbon cable that easily comes out of it's connectors if the Control Bar is lifted too high out of the case. It's easy to reattach if it comes off by sticking it back into the connector and pushing down the little black lever that holds it in place.

The wireless card is secured in the mini pci-e slot by 1 screw.

Remove the antenna wires>remove the screw>slide the old card out>slide the new card in>put the screw back in>attach the antenna wires>snap the Control Bar back in>FINISHED!

In the 4th attachment the copper colored 3rd antenna can be seen that I added for the Killer 1103.The 3rd antena wire ran behind the lcd panel and snaked through the right side hinge and then onto connection #3 on the wireless card.

hmm, this is a weird one, i set my screen resolution to 1280x720, everything is fine.

then i reboot , the login is at 1280x720 and after like less than 5-10 seconds it goes back to 1920x1080.

so i test by disabling all non m$ services and all startup items in msconfig and again when booting its at 1280x720 at login, i don't touch it, and still after a few seconds my resolution still goes back to 1920x1080 after reboot.

    Anyone noticed this before?

all no non-m$ services and no programs activate at login.

is this an Nvidia driver bug or something else?

Hello!! I have been reading all the pages here on this forum for a few weeks now. I just received my gt780dxr-447 from a reseller on page 1. I had a problem with the laptop shutting off after being on for a few minutes. I would restart it and it would shut off again. It happend to me about ten times before I decided to open the bottom of it. After I opened the laptop up I was looking at the heat sink and noticed it wasn't even screwed down. I screwed them down and the laptop runs fine now.

Should I send it back to the reseller anyway or is the cpu fine?
At what temperature does the cpu actually shutdown?

Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

With Turbo and O/C with Afterburner on 725/1450/1800 I get Solitaire game win like 50% at a time, so I guess you might need to upgrade BIOS to make it work better. Saper works fine though, the visuals are stunning!

    Hello all.
Have had the MSI GT783-680UK for a couple of days now.
So far I am impressed with the speed since changing the main SSD to a newer one that doubles the transfer rate as original SSD was a 6.2 on the MS score card. with the new SSD <OCZ petrol 128gb> makes the score max out at 7.9, making the overal system show up as a 7.5 on the windows experience.

Not had the chance to play much on the gaming side, apart from EVE. Looking forward to some new games to test out.
Not updated any of the drivers yet, as feel happy with what it has so far.

WOW! I suppose any of the resellers can make mistakes..... and I would not say this is characteristic of any of them, but that is insane..... a major WHOOPSIE DAISY! Personally at the very least, I would request a replacement affected component. High temps are is the enemy of all electronics, and there is no way of knowing if there has not been some sort of latent damage..... that has possibly shortened the component's life.

Let us know how it goes and what you decide.

    :)

Geez, someone is a heavy-duty solitaire player, eh?

    :D :D :D

A topic covered several times through-out the thread...... links and a disassembly video can be found HERE.

Also, you will find a thread 'search' link there.

I have been using Windows 8 on my laptop and just curious if it would be possible to replace the screen with touch screen ? Are they usually standard size or are the laptop screen custom / proprietary for particular manufacture.

Also thinking about adding a 2nd drive, can I order bracket from MSI or one of the reseller here?

i've been thinking that too, touch screens on laptops. would be a nice idea, but the price and heft&weight would go up for sure.

as for a 2nd drive, you might not need a bracket if you have a lil rubber block that holds your main drive and it has a bracket too, you can use the block to hold the 2nd drive in place. don't even need screws.

Correct, you don't need an HDD bracket, there should be a rubber block that holds the secondary HDD in place.

yes but the problem as he stated he wants to add a 2nd hdd, that leads me to believe he has only 1 so idk if the block is included.

eitherway a simple rubber stopper can be found at hardware stores and hobby shops or even ebay for a dollar or less.

its the size of a dice.

Like others suggested, call your reseller see what they can do for you.

Try 710 on GPU and 1690 on VRAM.

Also here is the new S-Bar Version: 21.011.11023 if anyone wants to try:

Hello! I just got my Gt780 DXR and all was great until I noticed some sluggish gameplay. I played some games in window mode and noticed the power icon was switching from Plugged in and Unplugged which would be the reason it was acting sluggish. Sometimes it keeps doing it back n forth very fast. The DC socket does not seem loose at all. It switches pretty fast at times , other times it switches back n forth slowly. Also my powersupply/cord Makes a buzz noise and sometimes when I hit keys I can literally hear the electric noise from the powerbrick/supply correspond with my key pressing. MSI wants me to send the Laptop+cord. Is it possible this is just a Power supply cord issue? or perhaps something internal? I only notice it when Im playing bigger games such as battlefield 3, or Star wars Old republic. Never durring web browsing or posting a forum, such as now. D3 is around the corner and I dont want to send my brand new laptop that I just got to MSI ( which I have to pay for the shipping to them) if I dont have to. Please, if you can help me let me know and thank you for your time in this matter =/ Also I have had problems with the Nvidia OS tool thats binded on the p1. I did the whole uninstall Sbar/msi os tool and reinstalled. Still turns off within 10 minutes of gameplay on bf3 and if I try to turn it back on it comes off just as fast as i try and turn it on. This possible that its related to my power issue? Maybe my power flickered again turning it off? but why wouldnt it turn back on? :(

there's 2 possibilities: either your power isn't clean with slight interruptions, maybe a power hungry item is on the same line or could be a problem in the electrical box.

or could be the laptop, bring it to a friend's to test it plugged in.

if that solves it then you know where the problem originates from.

It's possible that the power connector on the motherboard has a broken soldered point or is improperly soldered.

The only way to possibly tell is by removing the graphics card to observe it and test it for movement.

So I tried at a new location and sure enough after awhile it started. But it took awhile for it to start, and the Msi Nvidia OC tool actually lasted about 30 minutes before it kicked off. So I am going to try the second option, Removing my graphics card does >not< void warranty right?
