so what does this tell us that it took a while to start?

if it was a soldering problem it would happen right away, especially if you shake the cord while its plugged in.

i think it might just be your power brick, i'd contact msi directly for a replacement.

ok i figured out a workaround, maybe this will help others:

when on a website that includes a cam to cam feature, flash asks for permission to use the webcam, some how the popup freezes.

1st make sure the webcam is activated in your s-bar.

then right-click the flashpopup and click Global settings. Then in the 3rd tab "Cam & microphone"

click the button and choose the site you want to activate the cam for.
Then once selected, click on the dropdown list below and choose allow.

Close the window and now your cam should work on that site.

You can try this little app created by a forum member.

It will popup if there's a switch between AC Power to battery.

After my problem started again everytime i pressed the P1 (nvidia oc tool) it would go from being plugged in to not being plugged in, also did it with afterburner, no matter what setting i gave it soon as I hit save it would also do it.

can you test it without the battery? if it's soldering issue then laptop would shut off without the battery.

OT : Personally i think touch screen belongs to phones or tablets. And should stay there. Unless the laptops would use something similar to gorilla glass, and come in both non and touch version, then i might ignore it.

Until then, touch display is beaten by mouse and keyboard. As much as cool that idea is, it bears zero improvements on laptop, at least. Leaving your fingerprints on the screen, having to constantly use your hands to do basic things, rendering the keyboard and touchpad useless. In essence, that could be removed. But then, it becomes a tablet.

There has been a discussion about it somewhere...let me dig it ....

I took the battery out and it has been running for about 5 hours perfectly fine. Then it just started doing it again, ofcourse this time there was no battery so the laptop turned off the second it happend ;/ Does this tell you its a power supply issue?

Looks like it's the power supply issue, it's pulling too much power so the adapter shuts itself off.

oh sweet! I liked the orig s bar but I didn't like the star. dling it when I get home!

I've had nothing but great experiances with my GT783R. This is hands down the best laptop I've ever owned.

I've been wondering if there are more in depth audio drivers available. This is a creative soundcard right? I'm just used to my X-FI on my desktop where I can tweak a lot more things. Anyone have any info on this?

    Hello Guys,

I just got my new GT780DX laptop today and loving it.

I guess I am part of this club now!

The S-bar is kind of annoying... I'm just wondering what does the new s-bar looks like? Is it still the blue star on the top middle of my screen?

As a newbie to these laptops, is there anything you guys recommend to install or configure to help make the laptop run more better ?

So far the only thing I did with the laptop was:
-Uninstall the trial Norton 30 days crap
    -Installed AVG antivirus
-Update and install latest driver for gtx570m
    -Set up internet connection

I messed around with my "0" key and it's a little loose now (little clippers on the back of the key are a little bent out of shape so it has too much space to wiggle around).
Anybody know where I can buy a new "0" key?

If you have problems with keyboard you need to RMA the entire keyboard, MSI RMA department can't send just one single key.

might be a problem in the keyboard ?

thanks, i noticed my keyboard had forgotten its settings again after leaving the laptop alone for a while, the screen had turned off so must be 10mins without touching it. i closed the lid a couple times too, i'll have to keep a closer eye on it for sure.

i just started the MAGIX Video easy SE that comes with the laptop, just to see what it is , thing says an error the starting folder might be corrupted, error -6.

Could have to do with it being installed in Program Files (x86) instead of Program Files... some progs choke on that.

    same for photo manager 9...

Even if you picked Program Files>MAGIX it would still install to Program Files x86.

I just tried to install it into Program Files and it went to Program Files x86.

May be time for a clean install of W7?

BTW,have you run sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt lately to look for any file system errors.

    Hi all,

Hope you are doing well, probably I don’t have much time to write this post, hehehe (I had to write it first in notepad in case I had another BSOD while writing) :(

So lately I have been having the BSOD related to the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error, after doing a clean install of W7 I thought all my problems went away, but nooooooooo, today I had another BSOD, after a day of the clean install.

I had run the testmem86+ and guess what, my screen started to display a lot of red records, which I assume they are not good news, after 30 minutes running the test I had like 39% of the test passed and like 4k errors.

I’m still missing to test each stick individually, but I think most likely I will be end changing all memory sticks. Since you are the GT780R experts, which memory should I buy the Kingston HyperX or the Samsung?

Thanks in advance for your response.

    Best Regards!!

PS: By the away AWESOME post and thanks for all the information it has been very helpful, I had fun looking over all the 700+ pages :D

Just to save you trouble dont bother, you will not find a performance boost with 3GB vs 1.5GB of VRAM in 99% of gaming situations. You would almost have to hunt out a particular circumstance to make an example of the upgrade being worth while.

The two most common situations I have seen 2GB+ used

1.) Extreme resolutions, aka multi monitor 6004x1200 and laptops only have one screen so this is not a problem.

2.) Incredibly modified games like installing 6 different HD texture packs for a game like Skyrim.

i just installed this thing like a month ago, nah i don't think its a w7 problem for magix, its a 32bit program , i had the same problem with old acdsee 3.1 and its plugins. its installed but not fully functional.

sfc says its all good, just downloaded some updates. besides i've had problem with sfc long ago where it would revert some files to old version and break some programs worst rather than fix them. winupdate doesn't always work to update them either. so its a so-so solution imho.

i much prefer a format/reinstall solution if i suspect corruption (file, regs, partition etc). it takes care of all the problems that way.

i have a cool solution to that problem, instead of using notepad, i use a lil app called lazarus in chrome, it saves your text input for you for just in case of that. here's the link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/loljledaigphbcpfhfmgopdkppkifgno

if its still under warranty give a shout out to the boys at msi, they'll assis you in exchanging the ram. they're pretty cool about it.

WhatsThePoint: i found why the keyboard reverts back to default slow settings !

    its the Fn keys.

    how to replicate:
(not sure if you have to load the s-bar 1st, i have the latest one v21.0.11etc)

open control panel and go in keyboard settings. make sure the sliders are both to the right. your keys will repeat fast. you can test in that little box down at bottom of the keyb window.

then just do any special combo with the Fn key, like the "mute volume" hotkey combo of Fn+0 on numpad !

the keyboard will be set back to its default speed.

it happens with all of the special Fn functions.

So... looking for some advice here.

I missed the 30 day window to register my laptop. I'm not even certain I was made aware of this "requirement" before buying. Enter broken LCD screen. MSI will not honor my accidental damage warranty and is only offering a discount to replace the screen.

    Questions:

    1) What is the LCD panel for the MSI GT780R-012US and can I just buy one someplace, and at what cost?

    2) I did ask Ken @ Gentech for some input.. any other options to make MSI honor the warranty?

Thanks smitty, I have already call MSI, and bring my latop to the service center (advantages of living near the service center), fotunately Im still under the warranty.

Also I mention them the issue with the keyboard, so apparently they are going to change it as well.

Does anybody know how long it takes to get a response from them?

Believe it or not, it would not surprise me or most of the members of the community if it was just a single piece of bad RAM that is giving you all of the headaches.

MSI is really good about RMA for your memory.

If you still want to up your RAM though, I recommend the Kingston HyperX or you may want to try the Corsair Vengeance RAM. :D

Been using the GT780DX for about a week now, everything is good except for one minor issue.

I keep getting a red popup on the bottom right corner saying
    "CPU load 40%"

It keeps popping up every 3-5 minutes, I don't mind it really, but I am just afraid something is wrong? Even when I am not using any applications it would pop up saying cpu load 40%...

Anybody know how to reduce the cpu load? or get rid of this popup?

    Hi guys,

I just had a quick question bout overclocking my GT780DX with MSI afterburner, and sorry if it's already been answered, but I can't search anything in this thread for some reason :s

Anyway I have afterburner set at 710/1420/1800, but for some reason the core and shader clock won't go past 525/1050... am I missing something here??

I'm still pretty new to this so any help will be greatly appreciated :)

    Cheers,
    Simon.

just posting my findings on the fan woosh problem when idling, hope this helps someone who has a fan speed problem.

Basically it was just the normal idle fan speed that's too high on it, it was around 40% , that's way too high, so i lowered the fan speed for the lowest thermal value down to 10% (0x0A) for the idle speed and it works like a charm. i used the steps described here by Serum post #38 http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/640588-gtx570m-noisy-fans-need-silent-firmware-4.html i'd suggest not using Serums 1st values since he was just testing stuff out. Use the quiet.rw file as is or use my settings, they are safer than serums 1st posting of only using 0x10 for every value.

With my values i hear the fan much less now, infact it's spinning and silent, the temps are resonable at 50c, i notice a soft slow spin up when i do something more intensive than just typing and surfing, when it reaches 54-55c but its just ever so quiet of a woosh barely noticeable not at all annoying. its a very slow soft woosh and god it makes such a difference.

Kept an eye on the temps and they have gone up from 40-43c to 50-52c, the temps have been steady at 50-52c for the most of my work day, surfing , email, writing etc . i tested in gaming and it does ramp up the fan speed like before so no worries about it going into thermal shutdown. And i'm ok with that, i do want my bb to be safe and not overheat, so i think we're good here.

The other values in my post are the same as the quiet.rw file that comes with the zip, just moved them down 1 row and replaced the 1st one with 0x0A you can read my intel on that in this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/640588-gtx570m-noisy-fans-need-silent-firmware-5.html message #49 is the current config i have. i just set the batch file in my start up folder so it starts with windows and its all good.

it doesn't go woosh anymore and keeps it cool to the touch.

hope this helps someone who has a fan speed problem.

After almost 6 months in Beta, Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 is ready for download. This is the latest version of Microsoft’s free anti-virus/anti-malware utility and what I use to protect my own PCs.

“Microsoft Security Essentials is a free download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up-to-date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology,” a description on the Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 download page notes. “It runs quietly and efficiently in the background so you’re free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want—without interruptions or long computer wait times.”

New features in MSE 4.0 include a streamlined user interface, better performance, and a refined remediation experience for threats that need to be quarantined.

MSE 4.0 runs on Windows XP with SP3, Vista with SP1/SP2, or Windows 7. The technologies behind this application will be bundled with the Windows Defender utility in Windows 8 as well, negating the need for a separate download in the future.

I get a similar window pop up when I have BOINC running and maxing out the CPU.

I am running Norton Internet security and it frequently reports a "Performance Alert" for high CPU usage. I can turn off performance monitoring but I've only seen it when BOINC is crunching data, and at those times I'm generally not using the system anyway.

There is also the "Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor". That used to bother me, but it is easily disabled. I don't remember it being a pop up though, I think it was a fix icon. It also seems odd to me that it would warn for 40%.

I suspect this unusual 'pop-up' is the result of some un-necessary task running from third party adware/crapware. When you see the pop-up again, can you click on it (left or right mouse click) and see if it will identify the offending software? You should not be seeing this with any of the originally installed MSI software, so I further suspect you picked this up from something you installed, or something you picked up from the web. If you cannot identify the offending task, perhaps try running an anti-malware scan with something looking specifically for adware/spyware..... like MalwareBytes.

Just a thought, and good luck. Let us know what you discover.

    :)

I always like to check out the hardware ID's prior to installing, that way I can make sure I don't bork something just cause I didn't read some specific directions or whatnot. However, I can't seem to find the hardware ID uPD720200 & uPD720200a anywhere on my machine in relation to the USB controller. Can you please point me to the right area so I can verify this information myself.

    Thanks!
