no, only GT60, GT70 with GTX675m and maybe in future AMD 7970m but i thing only GTX680m and they (MSI) will change name to GT73.

I believe the repairs require a mainboard replacement, but I'm not sure what the price will be for that.
Despite the damages not being covered under warranty, if you send it in for the repairs and it is still under warranty, you won't run the risk of voiding the warranty much less risking further damage to the laptop itself. -

WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
Just installed the Windows 8 Release Preview x64 on a virgin SanDisk Extreme 240GB SSD in my GT780DX.
It was a piece of cake installing from a 4GB USB stick created with the W8RP ISO and unpacked onto the USB flash drive using the MS USB/DVD Tool.
The install took 26.7GB of space. That's just about 12% of the 224GB of available formated space.
My OCZ V3 MI with W7 x64 is now in the seconday P1 bay and probably will remain idle unless the W8RP x64 proves to be buggy like the Consumer Preview. -
i tried win8cp, for a coupledays, this is a production laptop, was ok, but i might revisit someday, although this is a big departure for them, i might skip it and go with win9 when it comes out. -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
The Consumer Preview was driving me nuts(More than usual) with the chkdsk on every bootup and the pink screens from the W8 NVIDIA 296.17 driver.
These issues are supposed to be fixed.
I don't use a MS ID on setup to eliminate the Lock Screen and turn off user photo and location in custom settings.
I'm going to install boot racer to see just how fast it boots.I seems like I just blink my eyes and I'm at the Metro screen.Damn this SanDisk Extreme is fast. -
lol i know what you mean. heck i might even try it, i'm looking to get something bigger than 128gb. crucial has been good to me tho.
btw i've had pink screens on win7 too with the 296, i thought my hardware was failing, geez they should get it fixed -
Just be sure that when you install them you select the Custom option and check the box to "Perform a Clean Installation". Let us know if that resolves your issues. -
its a very rare occasion when it happens. it did happen back in feb (i think) when i plugged my usb 3.0 external drive once, i thought it was the cause, it has 2 usb plugs on one end of the cable (one for extra power to the drive) and i had it plugged in the 2 usb 3.0 ports so i unplugged right away and shut her down holding the power button 4seconds.
its probly just coincidence but if it makes advancing the case any thats something.
now as to why the pinkscreen happens in the 1st place, i have no idea, cold it be the driver thinks these cards have optimus in them but they don't? shame really it would help with battery life and excessive heat from the vidcard. -

The RAM problems are back with a vengeance, this time they brought friends.
Programs suddenly stop responding, and ending them with Task Manager causes Task Manager to stop responding.
Drivers and services come to a halt, "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0", and start again after five minutes.
Just got visual artifacting after starting Windows earlier. Might as well format and do a clean install, because this is unbearable.
The "technicians" at the reseller from last time were pretty much useless. Made me reinstall Windows without formatting (which actually "fixed" the problem for a while).
Should I get new RAM, or is there a problem with my mobo? I've never even gotten temps past 85C. -
How much would a 3 month used GT780DX-277US be worth if selling?
-
might be cheaper than buying new ram -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
Which memory tests have you run? -
did you erase the ssd before installing and doing your tests? the secure internal erase of gparted should work fine, only the internal one.
-
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
It dropped again in value when the GT70 started shipping.
So my estimate would be 30%~50% less than the original cost if you can find someone to buy it.
BTW,in my location dealers that still have the GT780DX in stock have the stock unit for $400 less than the stock GT70(750Gb,GTX670M) -
I've run Memtest86+ and the Windows Memory Diagnostic. Memtest tells me one (or both) of the sticks is bad (didn't have time to do the full test) but Windows Memory Diagnostic didn't turn up with anything. Odd.
HD Tune Pro tells me nothing's wrong with my HDD, that's probably a green light for a reformat instead of replacing the HDD entirely. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
I am betting a bad memory module. If Memtest86 reports bad memory, seems to me your choice is clear. Either exercise your warranty and RMA for memory replacement, or replace the memory yourself at your own expense and risk. I think an RMA would be your best route here, as they will fully diagnose the problem, and take full responsibility in the repair.
How long ago did you purchase your unit, and who was your reseller? Generally the resellers can be helpful here. Good luck, and keep us posted!
-
Asking for RMA where I am would be ridiculous. It takes a month to send the thing to their service center and back, since there's only one service center in my country.
Purchasing a new RAM stick wouldn't be so bad since the folks at the reseller could open up the lappy and replace it for me without any extra charge.
I bought the unit in October through a local reseller (pretty big chain here in my country). -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Ok..... sounds like you got it figured out. Good luck with that.
-
Gonna do a format+clean install so that the random atapi error+crash stuff disappears (this is probably because of me force-shutting down the unit when stuff crashes)

Can this laptop's video card be upgraded to the gtx 680m when it releases?

Hey everyone, im most likely going to be getting a GT780DX, but i have a question. Now i know this laptop definitely is big, but how big? I mean will i be able to use it in bed? Or at places on my lap? Or is it too big for that?
How easy would it be to transport it around and/or move it a lot?
Thanks. -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
IMO,not worth buying new no matter how good the price is.Save a little longer and get the current model.
If I were you I'd look at getting a 17.3" GT70 with a GTX675M or wait for the GTX680M models.The GT60 is the new 15.6" gaming model.
If you're going to use a notebook on bedsheets, blankets or sitting on your chest then it's going to overheat.I suggest having it sit on a thin flat hard surface to ensure the air intakes are not blocked and proper cooling is being allowed.
Get something like a large thin cutting board for the notebook to sit on or....

I would say it is a solid 8-9lbs, I have it right here next to me on the desk, it definitely is not a small light weight machine i can tell you that.
Having it for long periods of time in my lap on a couch, i get sore knees, sore hips.
So if you don't have the laptop yet you could get a few books that total that much and lug them around or sit with them for a few hours if you don't have the laptop and see for yourself.
Having been on a trip with it recently, i recommend using a wheeled carry on case for trips it, like this one http://www.walmart.com/ip/Case-Logic-17-Rolling-Laptop-Case-PC/12380449?findingMethod=rr
they sell those at walmart. Some other carry-ons say they're for 15-16" laptops but may have enough give for a 17". Don't use a shoulder bag, you'll get a sore back and shoulders in minutes.
That said, when sitting on a sofa, i recommend having a lil tray table like this one : Table Mate II TV Tray
its sturdy , cost only like 15-20$, i 've had one since 2005, and works fine for laptops, you just have to use your mouse on the arm rest which works fine if its large enough or use a hardcover book , an end table, etc. -

Quick question, I had to do a clean install of Gfx Drivers, MSI AfterBurner, Nvidia Overclock Tool. Its my understanding the P1 button was to induce the overclock and I for the life of me cannot figure out how to make it actually do that? I can manually set my overclock but nothing happens when I push the P1 button. Only lights up and says turbo on or off when I press it, no overclock setting take effect when I do. So how do you actually make this "TDE" work?
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
If you press P1, the button remains lit and 'Turbo On' momentarily displays on the screen, chances are TDE is working. Have you ran one of the benchmarks like Vantage to see? If it is working correctly, you wil see results as posted HERE (example shows benchmark results of GTX-580). Also, you should note small increase in GPU temps and fan speed when TDE is activated.
TDE only provides a mild OC (approx. 10 - 15%) approved by MSI, and AfterBurner is not necessary for TDE to function normally. On the other hand, if using AfterBurner you need to activate TDE first (Turbo On), if MSI's nVidia VGA OC Tool is installed (which is required for TDE to function). AfterBurner is simply used to provide a higher OC, above and beyond TDE's capability.

Sorry lol, I thought I set up my signature with that info GT783-625us w/ i7-2760QM and GTX 580m 2gb, What happened was I had some driver issues I guess and all my games were having random lag spikes, some games worse then others. I realized something was REALLY wrong when I decided to play GTA4 and it was lagging to unplayable settings every 30sec. So anyway I deleted all nvidia display drivers, nvidia overclock tool, and msi afterburner and installed all the latest drivers and versions of said programs and my lag issues are gone.
New issue is my overclocks thru Afterburner dont seem to take as I check my info in Nvidia control panel and numbers are stock until I reboot, then it over clocks. When I push P1 nothing happens at all except it says turbo on and button stays lit but no stats change on GPU. I looked at the P1 button in the S-Bar and it doesnt actually seem to be mapped to anything so how could it even overclock?
I also tried using nVidiaInspector to overclock and that works, but its showing 4 performance modes which im not sure which to change, and when I overclock with either program my card doesnt seem go Idle like it should, GPU stays low but Memory, Shader, and core stay at the higher values except about every 3-5min it will drop down to idle specs for 1min or so and then go back up.
Msi Tech Support keeps telling me to do a recovery, but I shouldnt have to do a recovery to fix a single button. People have to format, they had to install it and map it to make it work, so why cant I? The button didnt just work on windows installation -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
P1 in the S-Bar is not mapped to TDE. It is only there for optional 'quick-launch' assignment, should you choose not to use TDE. The actual P1 button on the touch bar becomes assigned for TDE when the MSI NV VGA OC Tool is installed, but the S-Bar P1 will remain unassigned and independent.
TDE and AfterBurner are two separate tools, but Activation of TDE is first required for AfterBurner to function correctly (again, if the NV VGA OC Tool is installed).
I am wondering if you are not having some sort of conflict with TDE, Afterburner, and NVInspector all installed.
What I am curious about is if TDE alone is working? Rather than looking to the nVidia control panel, can you run Vantage and see the results with & without TDE? Is there a change in fan speed and temps when pressing the P1 button? How does GTA4 run without any OC, and with just TDE only? I have not played GTA4 on mine, but if it runs respectably with a 570M, you should have no problems with the 580M.
Good luck and let us know what you find.

Ok, I understand now......now as per 3dmark, the basic edition doesnt seem like it would matter since it benches at a lower resolution? Not in a position to purchase ATM, but if basic is fine I will try them. Now this came with a benchmark called heaven, is that worth doing?
My card is overclocking on boot without P1 on, and is the fan speed suppose to increase itself? I always just pushed my fan button on my sensor bar before all game sessions because a loud fan doesnt bother me in the slightest, loud fan means its working
I attached a pic of what my card is doing and wondering if those graph jumps are normal, I also showed the 4 choices nvidiainspector offers to clock. Also the before, and after Screens XoticPC sent me with my system using 3Dmark. I dont know if its working that well now, but all my games so far seem ALOT smoother and my max temps I have hit are 78 in GTA4 maxed full out and fps was steady 34-43 (mind you I did have to fiddle with the view distance and detail sliders for a sweet spot). Saints Row the Third I cant seem to get more then 32fps on full, Just Cause 2 is also running great getting between 32-38fps. I was up till the wee hours of this am fiddling with everything so im not sure if I was OC'd when I tried the games last night but I know for SURE P1 was NOT pushed or lit up, I'm reverting everything to default right now and gonna do in-game tests to see whats what then I'll try with P1 enabled to see if anything changes, I will keep all OC tools disabled while I do this so no confusion.Attached Files:

Ok so I figured out that the TDE is working, and applies whatever OC setting I set in Afterburner when pressed. When not pressed it stays in stock mode, now my only problem so far is GTA-4 is doing an odd GPU drop on me like what was happening before when OC'd.....im using the Safe OC specs sent to me by XoticPC, and Unigine Heaven Benchmark worked fine.....GTA4 is working fine when P1 isnt enabled.....just obviously gotta lower a couple settings for the higher FPS....this makes no sense at all lol
-
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
I am now wondering if it's not a V-Sync thing going on with GTA 4?
-
well its showing as a GPU drop, goes from 99 to 20 or so then goes back up, go a bit and happens again lol its friggin odd.....and annoying the hell out of me....lol I am happy that your tips helped me confirm TDE and how it works exactly, but I wanna send Rock* a bomb for there game annoying me and stealing precious gaming time lol
Yeah I tried disabling Vsync, made problem more frequent. Lowered ingame res and problem is less frequent but still happening....im done for tonight, lol if you wouldnt mind telling me your numbers for OC id appreciate it, idk im hoping my GPU isnt bad......but it doesnt seem like it....im lost haha -
umm...am I nuts but wasn't there almost 750 pages in this thread last night?
-
I bought a GT780DXR (i7 2630qm, gtx 570m), but it's not performing well. It scores just 12,5k at 3d mark 2006, when the average is 16k. To confirm, I created a clean install of windows 7, installed all drivers, and the result is the same. What am I doing wrong? Why the machine don't keep up with the average score? Anyone has had this problem? I'm really frustrated with this.
