Are you sure both male & female are the proper sizes. I'd be interested in this myself. If you would, post a link for us.

I measured the plug on my GT780DX power supply

Length 11.5mm (metal + black plastic tip)

    O.D. 5.5mm
    I.D. 2.5mm

I think this is the company that supplies the ones on Amazon
    Laptop Accessories

Do any of the newer MSI notebooks with 180W power have 90 degree plugs?

This is what I bought locally for a buck fifty($1.50)

Try installing the NVIDIA OC Tool,THX,S -Bar Utility and KLM keyboard LED Utility from this link. They're newer versions than what's on the GT780DX downloads.

I installed them all on my GT780DX.They work well.

MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

If you're running on battery power the P1 won't work.

MS netFramework 4 .0 or higher should also be installed before the S_Bar Utility.

    Thanx!

$1.50? Well worth it! I actually like your longer 'pigtail' version better. To me this one would be safer, serving better as a 'quik-release'. Also, I think all the MSI 180W PA's are currently manufactured with strait plugs only.... but it would be nice if they would re-think this. One can only hope......

Anyone know where I can find a replacement part for this part? When removing the sticker residue the cleaner I used removed and dulled some paint. You can see it on the right side. I wanted to get replacement if I can find one or does anyone have any advice on how I can paint it?

With the SSD prices in free fall I decided to buy a 2nd 240GB SanDisk Extreme SSD.

I moved my V3MI SSD to a caddy in the optical bay(yeah only SATA II) and put the SD Extremes in the internal SATA bays at P0 and P1.

Installed the new Intel RST v11.5.0.1207 on the V3MI ann set the 2 SSDs to raid0.

Here's benchmarks of a single SD Extreme and 2 in R0.

hello may i know what is the default or best for the realtek audio setup ? Stereo or quadraphonic ? because 5.1 or 7.1 make some games/programs/videos/music sound loss

the laptop has 2 stereo speakers built in and 1 subwoofer under it.

however if you have a 5.1 speaker system that you can plug in the laptop, you can use 5.1

I don't use Realtek HD Audio driver versions newer than 2.68 build 6602.

Newer than build 6602 kills sound from the subwoofer.

I normally use stereo headphones but when I do use the notebook's speakers I adjust the Realtek Audio Manager.

For testing the notebooks Dynaudio speakers and Subwoofer I set the Realek Audio Manager to 5.1 since it lacks a 2.1 setting and check/uncheck relevant items. The test sound emitted when clicking on each of the front 2 speakers and the subwoofer should be nearly the same in loudness.

This gives me food for thought. The sound of these units is great for a notebook, but with my new GT70 it seems improved (default settings)..... even more dynamic (including subwoofer). I need to look at the drivers, and see what other changes may have been made.

The newest Official WHQL version can be dowloaded diretly from Realtek but if you've read my previous post you'll see it may not be the best for the GT78x series.

Beta builds can normally be found on station-drivers.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone has come across this before?

This is the second time that this has happened. The first time when I was playing a game of League of Legends and the second time was just during start up. Both times it froze the computer completely and I had to remove the battery to reset it.

It might look like the screen is cracked or something in the picture, but it was fine after I restarted it.

wow that is weird, i think it might have overheated.

you might want to get a big fan for your room and move the air around, these things are air cooled as you know. might even get a noteboox cooling pad like this one, its cheap at 24$ but i can't vouch for how quiet it is, i don't have one. Amazon.com: Cooler Master NotePal U3 Laptop Cooling Pad with Three Configurable 80mm Fans (R9-NBC-8PCK-GP): Electronics

Keep an eye on temps with some tools, like coretemp and i like to use a windows gadget to keep an eye in realtime on temps but also cpu activity, it looks pretty cool too : Windows Desktop Gadgets - All CPU Meter Version 3.9 there's a GPU version but for some reason the gpu temps aren't showing Windows Desktop Gadgets - GPU Meter Gadgets

if it happens again let us know and if you suspect hardware failure contact msi directly also.

    where can i get a 802.11ac laptop card ?

if i'm stuck with this lil centrino 130 that can barely do 72mbits, might aswell jump to the next gen.

have my eye on the buffalo airstation AC1300/N450 or ASUS RT-AC66U Dual Band Wireless AC1750 Router 802.11AC 2XUSB GbE 1.3GBPS
    both under 200$

might be looking for a router with usb 3.0 if it exists right now. but optional.

    any suggestions?

I have the Netgear R6300 802.11ac router.I've had very good experiene with my Netgear 37AV and WNDR4500 so I chose it over the Buffalo. The Netgear Genie setup interface is easy to navigate and find all the sttings.

I'm waiting for the Netgear A6200 USB 802.11ac WiFi adapter.

There are no internal mini pci-e 802.11ac WiFi cards that I know of yet.

    thanks WTP,

saw some new Asus laptops have an AC card in them, so i'm sure replacements cards for our msi won't be long now.

meanwhile, is there a sentelic driver update since mtp_stl_8.5.6.4_al00 ?

this one works but it slows down the laptop's shutdown, i swear its like a minute longer because of that driver.

so i'm doing battery calibration on the laptop, its saying the draining will take 8 mins to do, idk how that's possible

its down to 1 min now and barely got 10% out of the battery icon.

using the version on the msi website v1.0.1012.0301

Frankly this program like so many others is busted.

good to know, but i unplugged ran l4d for an hour that drained its battery , then plugged back in.

surprise it was not charging. so i took out the batt, pressed the power button for 30 seconds, waited a bit for the bat to cool down. then put it back in and plugged it and it worked.

just 1 more surprise from the hardware side of this tempermental beast

U sure? Will it have compatibility issues such as Bios?

If the GTX680m was installed in the GT780DX, will the Optimus even be usable?

I'm very curious about this, haha.

Nope, Optimus won't be usable and according to my testings, the 680M (Clevo, with MSI vBIOS) doesn't post in MSI GT series.

Question, Optimus is usable in the GT60/GT70 because the CPU or motherboard allows Optimus right?

Based on your post, the GTX680m is incompatible with the GT780DX right? U said "doesn't post in MSI GT series", don't really get it.Sorry for my ignorance :(

Geez, I gotta tell ya guys...... I am really confused here. Why are the last few post in this thread referring mostly to GT60/70's?

Yes, the GT60 and GT70's have Optimus (and dual GPU's), and the GT780/783 series do not.

No, you will not be able to use a 680M in a GT780DX..... couldn't use a 580M either...... least not if it's an NVIDIA manufactured card, and if so, you would have to swap to a GT783 MB. I am sure the same applies to the MSI 680M.

I know of no known MB issues in the GT70 series.

Can we please direct GT60/70 questions to their appropriate threads?

    :)

Hey guys. Have had a GT780 for about 6 months, barely used it so decided to sell it. I added a SSD way back and it has worked fine as the main boot drive. So I ran f3 and reset to factory defaults a week or so ago and it ran and booted up fine after. I sold the laptop today and showed buyer it working fine. A hour or so later buyer calls me and is saying getting unreconized boot error. Buyer seems to be decently computer savy and stated that he cannot get into the bios to change any settings, cannot hit f11 to select boot device and cannot even press f3 to get recovery up. He brought it back and I confirmed none of them work. It is missing the options even showing to press any of these keys to get into any of the items. Buyer seems legit and I am sure he did not mess with anything. I refunded his money and am now trying to figure out what the heck is going on.

I tried taking out ram I added in, tried taking out the SSD I added and still getting errors on boot. Even reset the bios by unplugging it. Normally this windows error would be fine if I could reinstall windows but I cannot because I cannot even get into the bios. Here is screenshot of BIOS and windows error

1st things first, what happens when you press DEL at msi logo?

You cannot get into bios or you are asked for password?
one thing you can try that doesn't cost anything is open the bottom, take out the SSD and put it back in, it may have shifted during transport.

or could be that the buyer tried to flash with latest bios but took raid instead of ahci, or could have used wrong bios all together for this machine.

so re-seat the ssd or get the right bios for single drive AHCI and flash it.

if you can't select boot device at F11 take ssd out and it might find the usb drive and boot from it.

at worst you could make a bootable cdrom with the bios and boot from it to flash, i always used either floppy or usb.
Make sure you verify cdrom after burning before flashing.

    Get back to us.

so the GT70 has optimus, good to know.

is it the same hardware/look as the GT780DXR ?

Cuz i gotta tell you, msi made a huge mistake by not having optimus in here, all the non-playing time spent using this machine, would love to have optimus

When I was doing research on this comp earlier in the year before buying it, I delved a little into why most of the computers with this generation on high graphics cards did not have Optimus.

The conclusion was that it was still buggy and causing issues with randomly going into power saving mode while you were playing games and hurting performance.

I've not done any research since, but I wouldn't say it was a 'huge' mistake if that technology had not yet proved itself on high end hardware.

It is nice to see that maybe it has matured though.

about optimus, good to know. but surely the bugs could have been ironed out with software/firmware.

it would still be a great thing to have considering the noise the fan makes just at idle. yes there's a fix for that, but it would be great if the fix came from msi themselves. 1 hardware patch and its done for life. no need to remember at every reinstall.

well anyway, thanks for the info

Thanks for the Advice. Turns on the problem was that Hibernation does not work well if you recover the recover image file from normal hard drive onto a SSD you put in. I removed both drive as was still getting that Windows error. Had to Clear CMOS and unplug battery for 30 minutes. It then worked again and I got menu in bios. Reinstalled Fresh windows and all driver, did some tests and works fine now.

ah yes that elusive hibernation problem. good that you caught that.

Are you gonna contact the buyer and let him know its not a problem with the hardware ? it's software and someday they might have an update for it.

Meantime just disable hibernation with a command prompt, and powercfg -h off

i always do it and recup 16gigs of space on the drive (16gb of ram).

i hope the sale will still go through.

Yep buyer already came back and bought it, very nice guy and completely understood.

Loved the Laptop, bought it because I started a Nightshift and used it play it while working, Nighthift ended soon after and have not used it for like 4 months.

He will give it a good home.

As soon as I turn on CinamaPro the screen is reset to a cold blueish cast. It doesn't matter if I calibrate with it on or off. Every minute or so the screen flickers with the new warmer calibration and then goes back to the cold blue one. Any ideas?
    Edit: Using Spyder 3 Express
