Same here. I think it might be related to overheating, as it only seems to happen above 65C.

Maybe they changed something in the last drivers that messes up when the temperature starts to rise..

Has anyone else had the issue of the keyboard not lighting up on start up? I have to start KLM every time which is really annoying to say the least.

Also, my system hangs for quite a while during start-up. Doesn't happen all the time but it's irritating when it does.

the keyboard seems to light after klm is started. it controls the colors but you can light it up manualy by pressing the touch sensitive button once or twice on the left of the power button it looks like a lil sun rising. it'll be white tho.

as for system hanging for a few seconds at start up i've had that too right between the logon window and the desktop usually, but b/c i had other problems i decided to just reinstall. so it could be a driver issue.

to have klm load up again on start up, you can reinstall Backlight Keyboard LED manager after downloading it from the msi website : MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

    Hi guys!

Few minutes ago I was using my laptop then I changed the desktop color settings in nvidia control panel because I thought it was too bright, after a minute or so a STRAIGHT HORIZONTAL LINE APPEARS!!

I've tried to change my resolution, restarting, and changing things in nvidia control panel and it still doesn't fix the problem :(

    So what's going on?How do I fix it?Please help?Do I need to RMA this GT780DXR again? :( HELP,thanks. :(

well RMA would be your best bet but i can't believe changing the brightness would do that. course you could just press FN+Arrow up/down to achieve the same thing for brightness.

here's what i'd do 1st, shut her down, remove the battery , unplug, wait 2 or 3 minutes then plug it back in. it could just be the power connector not connected right, but that's a long shot. it could just be the screen connector also but you'll have to check the 1st post of this thread to see dismantling instructions video.

before going the RMA route tho, try reinstalling the drivers, with custom install, and check the box for a fresh install to see if something might have gone wrong with the nvidia cp

the latest ones on the site are v301.42 WHQL you may try the beta aswell.

    I have returned.

Startup and shutdown times are now consistent across the board regardless of whether I'm plugged in or on battery power.
Now here's the problem: my AC adapter jack has become very finicky and now I have to apply some degree of pressure in order for my battery to start charging.
Thing is, no more warranty (which is fine considering the fact that the folks who work at the local reseller who are apparently 'trained' by the MSI service reps in my country [incompetence breeds further incompetence] are a bunch of shady fellows who have just about the same knowledge as me regarding the laptops they "service").

On a scale of difficulty from 1 to 10, 10 being hardest, how hard is it to fix the solder joint on the AC adapter jack?

I'm really considering building a PC in the next few years instead of getting a desktop replacement. It'd probably suit me better to have a separate unit to bring outside the house.

EDIT: there's a chance it might just be my AC adapter. Anything I can try?

Hey, I got it at $100 at Memory Express,
    Regular price $2,200 - $500 discount = $1700
    $1,700 - 30% clearance = $1200
    $1200 - 200 Mail in Rebate = $1000

How expensive is it to ship to repair this thing? I see the shipping is not covered from Canada to USA?

GPU spikes? Temps, FPS, what? Which unit do you have, and what GPU? I am not experiencing anything unusual, but issues can be with drivers or even a particular game itself. Do you experience issues with ALL games, or just one? Which game or games? Does your game or games have the latest patch?

    More info please.......

Well, my GX780 was upgraded to a GT780 and is now going to be a GT783.

    GX780 - GT555m, 150w ac adapter

    GT780 - Moved up to a GT560m

GT783 - New heatsink, new 180w ac adapter and GT580m

New heatsink from rk computers. Got absolutely ripped off on brokerage to ship to Canada.

    GT580m still in shipment.

How are your GPU temps? I am wondering if your GPU is getting hot. These notebooks do get dusty fast, and require regular cleaning. Have you monitored temps while playing? If your temps are high, try giving it a cleaning.

Also, are you playing online, or offline? If playing online, try offline 'single-player' mode, and see if it's the same.

    :)

Which GTX-580M..... from AW, Clevo, Sager, or MSI (NVidia direct)?

    :)

Oooooooooo, not good. I have posted on this several times, and I have been through this experience. Seems MSI has done something proprietary here with MB/EC firmware, and when I attempted this, it required I swap to a GT783 MB too. 580M cards from other manufacturers will work, but I believe in all cases users experienced the throttling issue..... and 'ThrottleStop' was required as a work-a-round. The MSI card will only perform to 570M levels when coupled with the GT780 MB. Couple the MSI 580M with a GT783 MB and you'll have a good throttle free 580M experience..... but this ends up being an expensive proposition. In the long-run, I think folks are better off selling their GT780's, then buying the GT783.

    Good Luck!

    :)

hello its been 2 months since i have puchsed my gt780dx and currently i am experiencing really annoying lags,
usually when i amrunning firefox or outlook... anytime i start outlook i can bet that these 2 programs will freeze stop working for a few minutes before everything get back responsive correctly switching between tabs takes between20 to 60 seconds!
i have large .pst files and anytime i start outlook it starts slowing extremely the laptop, looking into the used resources i see that i am barely using 20-30 percent of cpu and memory usage
the laptop is also extremely slow as soon as i open a few tabs with firefox only started...
looking to the programs running i have

    THX prostudio
    s-bar
    msi keyboard led manager
    msi vga overclock tool
    and a few other programs

note that when i received my laptop the original drive was defective (with bad blocs) and i switched to a primary ssd drive but had to download all the drivers via MSI site.

    what would you guys advise?

    my system specs:
    gt780dx
    cpu: i7-2670qm
    vga: gtx 570
    ram: 6gb ddrIII
hdd: primary ss drive qnd 500 gb secondary

System slowdowns can be caused by many factors, so without being behind your keyboard, this can be somewhat a shot in the dark..... and a process of elimination. Since you suspect FF and Outlook are culprits, this is a good place to begin, and both can cause issues you describe.

My hunch is FoxFire, which is known for these problems. BTW, why FoxFire? Just a thought, but why not another browser, like I.E. or Chrome, etc.? Are you using the latest version of FF? If you are determined to use FF, try launching it in 'Safe Mode' from the 'Windows Start Menu', to see if it behaves the same. This will disable added Themes and Extensions. If this helps, you probably have a incompatible or corrupt Theme/Extensions, and these can be uninstalled and reinstalled, if needed. Also insure all plugin's are up to date, and remove any that are unnecessary.

    Also this may be helpful:

    Standard diagnostic - Firefox

Personally, I would uninstall FF entirely, either following the method described in the article above, or use Revo Uninstaller. Then I would start over, freshly reinstalling FF with the latest download version.

Since Foxfire memory usage is often problematic, have you tested your system's memory with MemTest86? Just for GP, I think this a good test to run on all systems occassionally.

Also, since some FF issues can cause system slowdown, even when the browser is closed, it's probably best to eliminate FF before moving on to Outlook. Which version of Outlook are you using?

I hope this helps for now......

    :)

I am looking to get a 30 inch monitor for my gt 780. The graphics card supports the 2560 resolution but there is no hdmi connection. The two monitors have dual dvi and display port. Do i get a hdmi to dvi or display port or is there a better way to do this? Thanks

Thought I would post since this forum was instrumental in me buying an MSI GT780DXR. Newegg had a pretty killer sale a few weeks ago. I bought the 447US for $1199 with $150 mail in rebate.

With a few tweaks this thing is running like a beast.
    http://chattypics.com/files/WindowsEI_yf5gkk3ii8.png

Not bad for a $1200 laptop without SSD. Out of the box Guild Wars 2 was auto detecting medium settings without AA, reflections, and low shadows. After tweaks it's detecting everything high, and FXAA. I think my only gripe so far is the keyboard and something was wrong with my restore partition which wouldn't allow me to make a restore disc.

Temps with P1 on and no turbo fan 70-80C CPU 65-80C GPU.

Anyone know of an update to the S-Bar tool to work with .NET 4.5?

Installed Visual Studio 2012 and it does a in-place upgrade of the .NET Framework from 4.0 to 4.5 and sadly, this has broken S-Bar. You cannot just install .NET 4.0 again as the system knows you have a new version.

Need some help on getting my 30 inch monitor working at 2560x1600 resolution. The laptop has a hdmi connector but the monitor, nec pa301w only has displayport and dvi-d. I purchased a hdmi to dvi cable and have the monitor working but it will only display at 1920 x 1280. Any idea what I am doing wrong? The video card is capable of getting the max resolution but for some reason I am not. Thanks.

Well my GX780 now has the 580m in it and the bios see its as the GT783. After I get the RMA on my keyboard I will be soldering in the extra power wire the 783's have to get the 580m up to 580 levels ( it is at 570m levels at the moment)

Which GTX-580M did you install.... Sager/Clevo/AW, or MSI? I hope not the MSI, and with all the others you will have the throttling issue.

Sager/Clevo/AW 580M's - You will need to use ThrottleStop.

MSI 580M - To get 580M performance, you will need to replace MB too, with a GT783 MB. Otherwise, it will only perform at 570M levels.

GT783 - no throttling issue, no problems!

Anyhow, this was what I experienced. Good luck!

Hey guys, I have a GT780 DX (GTX 570M) and I'm trying to install 3D Vision. I've tried installing Verde 296.10 and the 306.02 beta and for some reason every component installs except 3D Vision. Has anyone else had this issue?

Did you ever solder on the extra power wire? If not that why your never preformed at 580 levels I believe.

Yep, sure did, and the wire made no difference. The MSI 580M still performed only at 570M levels.

I really really need help. I have a GT783R and a couple of days ago I noticed my laptop shut off while playing GW 2. I just wrote it off as a fluke. But then it did it again, and now it is happening more often ( I even tried WoW ). This does not happen while I am surfing the web or doing nothing at all. I am pretty sure it is overheating and was wondering if there was a quick fix for it, or if I was going to have to send it in for repairs. Usually I can deal with sending it in for repairs but Im getting deployed soon ( cant say when ) and Im not sure if I will be here when its done if I have to send it in. A very important note is that one of the reasons that I got the laptop is because of deployment so that I could take my gaming with me. I just hope its a common issue that can be taken care of quickly. Thanks again in advance for the help.

could be over heating, try cleaning the vents or look at 1st post in this thread there should be a tutorial to deep clean it, if that doesn't help, get a laptop cooling pad, one with fans under it like from cooler master or targus. On amazon.com they cost around 25$, that should hold you until you know where&when you're being deployed to. after that you can send it in for repairs if need be.

I contacted MSI because i am still under warranty. They are trying to work me and my time frame. I next day mailed it to them they said because of my situation that they will try to help the best they can. I like that they are so willing to work with me. They said they will contact me and let me know how long it will take to get finish so I will know if they should just keep it until i get a address or try to mail it to me on the weekend.

Hi I am new to lounge and would like to say hello. I purchased a gt780r-014us about 6 months ago and I have a couple questions. I have read several post on here about the graphic stutter, but did not see any solutions to this. Problem is the game drops from 60fps to 15-20fps for about 4-5 seconds then goes back to normal. Laptop is plugged in and is not overheating. Drivers are newest. Anyone have any luck figuring this out. Also I have the MS-1761 motherboard and was wondering what would be the best GPU i could install. Has anyone put a 7970m in these.

the only stutter i ever see is in Transformers Fall of cybertron, its very badly coded imho, lots of tearing if vsync isn`t enabled too. the stuter happens every time the game switches seamlessly from game mode to scripted cinematic and back. its just badly coded is all.

other than that its pretty fluid, i don`t recall anything major in other games like the TF game stutter.

i guess it depends if its busy in the background or some other app is hogging the gpu while gaming.

Don't know if this will help but I had the same thing happen to me and I changed the power mode from "Balanced" to "Performance" and the problem went away.

No that didnt help much. I installed a 240gb intel 520 ssd and that made a big difference in the way it runs but still get the odd stutter. Does anyone know what the best graphics card that can be put in this. I was either thinking a gtx 675m or a 7970m. Any have any info?

Hi there, i have the same issue as you, but i decided to clean my GT783(MS 1761) up. At first i thought it was dust causing overheating and restarting PC (my notebook heatsinks was full of it) but after cleaning this restarting problem still persist. I am confused because it restarts only when i am playing something but temeratures are not that high, CPU was about 65C and gpu below 55C. Restart itself look like it is temperature related cause, it just shuts down, start again, continue through boot, asks me if i want to go to safe mode or if i want to launch startup repair then it proceed to restart or to load win and then restart. This repeats forever until notebook is turned off, but i rather shut it down immediately. I am usin cooling pad nc-3500 from zalman.
