With both disk in does the Intel Raid Utility show the disks as non raid disk?

Because the raid utility is showing means the bios is set to raid.

So,with both disks in the notebook can you make a raid0 128 strip array and install Windows 7 x64 on it?

With both disks in can you access the bios?

BTW,I've tested Realtek HD Audio driver 2.70 build 6738 and it works.

I have read all 5 of your post, and it seems you have an issue beyond your scope..... so why not RMA the notebook for repair?

The latest NVIDIA drivers are fine..... Go for it!

    Thanks WTP,

i'm looking for a killer n card, i plan to upgrade my router next year to an 802.1ac protocol, which wifi card would work best , any idea?

i'm thinking 1103 is faster than the 1202 since it has 3 streams but what do you think ?

I'd wait to buy a new wireless card untill you are at the time of a 802.11ac router purchase.

Hopefully by then new 802.11ac wireless cards will be available.

Presently the 1103 is only better than the 1102/1202 when it has the 3rd antenna or it will perform as a 1102/1202.

I have great performance on 5ghz band with a Netgear R6300 802.11ac router and Killer 1103(3x3) steady at 450Mbps.

The 2.4ghz band is lackluster at 216Mbps.

I should have a Netgear WNDA A6200 802.11ac USB WiFi adapter soon to test with the router.

you're right, 450mbps is the minimum iw ant, i did some research on my centrino n 130, guess what?

its a ty 1x1 card and goes only upto 72mbps. too bad i didn't get the option to configure it the way i want, canada computer just sell the models and don't ask if you want upgrades.

Anyway, the bigfoot killer N card on amazon is out of stock, the vendors in 1st post charge from 80$ and up, had the same card for 60 on amazon. too late now. but ebay has some nice ones and the 1103 is only 5$ more.

would i need to put a 3rd antena in the screen to get 450mbps ?.

Hello, my name's Lucas and I'm having a very irritating problem with my laptop. It's a GT783R and I bought it back in April of this year.

I'm writing this post from my laptop only because I'm in safe mode. If I try to start the laptop normally, it will eventually randomly shut down and start up by itself. The reboot happens immediately with no warning whatsoever or any sort of error report that I know of.

A few months back, this would only happen while playing a video game. It now happens at random while browsing the web, playing a movie, or even just as I am logging into the computer. I am no longer able to play games at all which happens to be the main reason I even bought this thing.

As I said before, I am able to use the laptop while in safe mode. I'm no expert but this leads me to believe that it's a problem with the video driver/card. My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX580M. What can I do to figure out what exactly is wrong and hopefully how to fix it?

Yes,without it you only will have a 300Mbps card.

Antennas are about 2x$5 on ebay.

Somewhere in this forum are instructions I posted when I added my 3rd antenna.

The LCD bezel comes off fairly easy to add the 3rd antenna.

You need to be carefull snapping it back together as not to break off the plastic snaps.

There's some double sided tape holding the bezel to the LCD frame

There's also 2 screws at the bottom corners behind the rubber covers that need to be removed in order to take off the bezel.

On the GT783 with the Killer 1103 connected to the R6300 what is your Transmission Link Speed listed in the Bigfoot Network Manager on the 2.4ghz band?

When I look at mine in inSSIDer and the Bigfoot Network Manager I'm always at 100% Signal Strength but 216Mbps.

On the 5ghz band I'm locked in steadly at 100% and 450Mbps.

The R6300 router does very well on 5ghz but the 2.4 at 216Mbps is puzzling.

    yes, thanks for reminding me.

when/while i'm in there adding that 3rd antenna, i'll have to remember to remove that black kevlar tape over the mic. i'm not ready to upgrade just yet, like you said the ac cards are bound to happen someday.

i just hope its soon, but i guess it will be some time next year any idea when ?

until then i guess its either wait for them or enjoy the 450mbps the N card brings.

Those 802.11ad cards aren't even due before 2015. its too bad they don't release all these new things together.

802.11ac routers are out, where are the cards?

hi guys! im new here and i did search the thread for my query but sadly i think no one considers it as a problem as i do, my main concern is about usb charging, the iCharger software in the site is not working with my Samsung tablet and we all know why, so i decided to download their latest software which is the SuperCharger that comes for i think the g70 but i have my doubts if my gt780 has a port or is capable of using it.. my question is, is there any way i can get my tab to be charged faster because as i understand usb ports only give 500mah but my tablet needs 1000mah to be charged at normal speed.

sorry for bad grammar as english is not my main language :D thanks in advance for the help and please answer also Edvis22's question because im also planning to do that if it is possible.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Pair-No...616123648?pt=GPS_Antennas&hash=item4cfa41b100

BTW,there's a new version of the FREE inSSIDer program v2.1.6.1394.

    http://www.metageek.net/support/downloads/

IMO you should save your money and buy a new notebook when Haswell CPUs are released in a few months.Sell the GT780 then and together with the money you would have spent on the 7970M you'll have a good bit of the new notebook cost.

Doing some wifi tests , since i'm getting only 72mbps from the router (linksys e1200, 300mbps max)

at 72mbps its half of what this centrino card can do and file transfers only do about 5 to 6.6MB/s

i figure maybe one of the antennas could be busted or the card itself.

so i did some tests , 1st with both antennas plugged in, then swapped main auxiliary ports, then only 1 at a time.

The antenna's 1st port (main) gets low speed (66mbps max) while auxiliary (port 2) gets abysmal speeds below 20mbps, i then swapped the black antenna and the gray one and the speeds are the same for the ports 66/20.

1st question, is this normal for this little card ?

2nd its still under warranty is it better to send the card in for testing to msi ?

i ordered a Killer N 1103 on ebay for 58$ its due to arrive next week. i would feel better in adding a 3rd antenna of course but all in due time, the router can do only 300mbps.

Hi guys, Just signed in to join this thread! Been a proud owner of the 780 since january. Thinking about installing win 8, has anyone did this and is still able to oc with the Nvidia oc tool, sbar, turbo boost and msi afterburner?

And does the touchpad support touch gestures in win 8?

    meh been there, done that.

i tried Win 8 back in march and july when the 2 previews came out, installed it on my laptop and on my desktop.
Gave it a solid month, and frankly i wasn't that impressed. it's far too unstable and too different for mouse users.

it is for tablets and tablets only. heck even game makers aren't jumping on board, Valve said they're not happy about it.

Lots of little annoyances on a mouse/touchpad driven computer that made me understand its clearly for tablets. That's my opinion.

Lots of scrolling and mousing around. Remember you're using a computer without touchscreen capabilities and only a small touchpad or mouse.

Someday we'll all have that touchscreen tech standard but for now its not for this gen of computers, maybe in a few years if win 8 catches on.

No luck running your old software (from before 2005 i'd say). i have good ol superfast Acdsee 3.1 with the addons (necessary), it installed but doesn't run, it always crashes. good luck finding something better.

For computers without touch screens its going to be a low sales market. they've touted the "surface" feature too much for it to catch on and win 7 isn't that old only 3 years. Lots of people still run xp and its 11 years old. i'd say good luck getting the win7's upgraded. maybe if they lowered the price of the upgrade from 70$ to 40 or the full Os from whatever down to 100$ it might have a shot. it's a lot of work reinstalling all that and the programs AND re-learning windows on top of that.

Who wants to relearn everything on the computer you've been using the for last 2 or 3 years?

To me, all the parties and launch events M$ is doing are not going to make me want to change from win 7 to win 8.

i think its too early to adopt win 8 right now. Give it a couple of years or at least until SP1.

Win 7 is far more stable and more mature. i'll skip win 8 and wait to see what's in win 9 or win 10 we'll see what they come up with.

Every few weeks turn the power off on the router for about 5 minutes or leave it off while you're sleeping to flush the cache.

If you get the same speeds when testing in speedtest.net when in the same room as the router and on AC Power then it may be your service provider is not very good.

How long does it take to download the Windows 7 x64 ISO from digitalriver?I can get it at mostly 10mb/s between midnight and 4AM local time but during 8AM to 10PM it's in the 6mb/s range.

inSSIDer shows about 80 other networks on the 2.4ghz band since I'm located in a large high rise apartment complex. On the 5ghz band I'm the only one.

My router's set to WPA2 AES security and channel 4 for 2.4ghz and channel 153 on the 5ghz.

If I'm in the room with the router speedtest.net shows me at 100.8Mbps down and 53.6Mbps Up.

i only have a couple routers on innssider 2.4ghz, nothing overlaping.

but i'm talking about the wifi from the laptop to the router itself, not the internet. basically i'm testing file copy over Lan.

when i have only the black antenna plugged in the main (1st plug) on the centrino card i get about 66mbps never really seen it go higher even after i start file transfers. when its plugged into the aux it dips down into the low 10s

i think my previous post may have misled a bit, starting it with talking about my router. what i really meant is the wifi card.

i have another centrino card from an hp 500$ laptop and it gets 150mbps but i haven't played with the antennas.

anyway i'm waiting on the killer n 1103 to see if it does better. i'll have to add a 3rd antena someday when i upgrade router so it can do 450mbps.

oh but one good trick to speed up your surfing, make sure your mtu is right for your connection. its smoother now that i set my mtu to 1472. just a tip.

You need absolutely an alienware 7970m card. Won't work with a clevo one.
All you need is to find a 5870m heatsink from a gx660, then mod it a bit ( you have a thread about those modifications ). When heatsink is ready, it's plug and play, Hardest part is to find this heatsink and mod it ( mine was already modded by PAU ).
And oc you need to buy a 180w PSU.

I did this upgrade, and i am just in love with my laptop now.

I recently upgraded to Windows 8, using my GT780. All went well except for the Card Reader. I downloaded and installed the Realtek card reader software, yet no card reader access. I did notice in the device manager under "Other Devices", it is shows usb2.0-crw with an error. I clicked to upgrade and find driver but nothing.

Anyone run into this problem? If so, what was the resolution. Thanks.

I know it's personal preference things and all that and the new Metro interface may not be everyone cup of tea but you post is full of misinformation and bias. I install Windows 8 on my msi 780 and it's probably the easiest Windows upgrade yet. I have worst experience going from my XP on my desktop to Windows 7 several years ago. I didn't even need to download any drivers everything work with clean install option as soon as it reboot it put me back where I was. I download the drivers and other msi specific utilities and they all work just fine.

Upgrade also is cheap, it's 39.99 but you can also get discount if you have Windows 7 key and upgrade for just 14.99 to Windows 8 Pro. It said offer available to buyer after June 2nd but the Microsoft doesn't really ask you for proof so offer work for everyone.

Again, I know it's personal preference and all so I am not going to shove what I prefer on other people but having to relearn some of the UI is really not the end of the world. It take may be a day or two to get used to the new interface. All your Windows Keyboard shortcut still work. The new Start menu might be jarring at first but actually for laptop it's actually work quite well. I don't have to use my mouse to navigate since it's easier to use touch pad with new Start menu. All tile, menu etc on Metro UI are big and easier to use. Would it be better experience with touch screen, sure but with touch pad it work just as good. Also the new interface work great on big screen. I often hook up my laptop to my big screen tv (isn't the whole point of buying this msi 780 is to play game) and the new Start screen is great with the 50" TV.

To answer the original question, all msi specific utilities work fine (so far) for me with Windows 8 but I have not test it extensively. I usually dont run all the overclock utility. Keep in mind also that on msi site, everything is listed to work for Windows 7 as far as utilities stuff is concern.

    HI guys,
    I have a question.
I have this laptop (MSI GT 780 DX ). 4GB ram, 1 module.
I want to upgrade to 16 GB ram.
I opened the laptop and i saw i have 4 physical sockets.
I used crucial scaner ( RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, SSD at Crucial.com/uk) to figure what sort of modules i need, but it tells me i have 2 sockets, and that my max ram is 16 GB with 2 8 GB modules.
How can i figure out if i need 4x4gb ram or 2x8gb ram?
Also, are those 200 pin or 204 pin modules?
    If need more information ask.
    Thx for help!

There's 2 x 204 pin So-Dimm memory slots under the keyboard and 2 more accessed through the bottom of the notebook.

Windows 7 x64 Home Premium supports up to 16GB of Ram.More than 16GB requires an OS upgrade to Windows 7 x64 Pro or Ultimate.

To have the memory work in dual channel mode with 16GB of total Ram then you'll need to have 2 x 4GB under the keyboard and 2 x 4GB in the bottom slots.

The stock memory speed in the GT780DX is DDR3-1333 9-9-9 24

If you are going to spend the extra cost on 2 x 8GB memory modules you'll need to put them both under the keyboard or both in the bottom slots for dual channel mode and remove the single 4GB module you have now.

The GT780DX supports DDR3-1333 up to 32GB,DDR3-1600 up to 16GB and DDR3-1866 up to 12GB.

Thx for the help . On a side note i think my DX only supports 1333 since the procesor is an i5-2450M.
Ill be ordering the ram today :D.

Okay guys, I've exhausted my efforts.

I upgraded from win7 to win8 recently on my MSI GT783 and have updated of the stuff from the MS70 but I am still unable to get S-Bar to work. It will crash upon launch every time, and this is causing my TD to fail. I turn it on and the light comes on but nothing happens and I cant turn it back off. I've reinstalled over and over to no avail. If someone could help me it would be much appreciated

did you wipe your hdd/ssd before installing win 8 or did u do an inplace upgrade from 7 to 8 ? (ie:while win7 was running)

strange bugs can happen if you just upgrade while windows is running and not really installing it properly.

as for drivers, the gt783 drivers are on the msi site here: http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT783-GT783R-.html

they added a bunch over the last week or so, i'd suggest using those 1st.

I did not wipe out my HDD/SSD before installing. All of my drivers have been updated as well as the utilities. The S Bar program is able to run on windows 8 is it not? I'm pretty sure I've read other posts where people are having no problems with it.

like i said, its always best to start from scratch, reinstalling from a freashly formatted hdd or wiped ssd.

you do know how to do that ?

Others have had issues with S-Bar & WIN 8. Please review the following:

    S-bar for Windows 8

Supposedly MSI's SCM (System Control Manager) will be replacing the S-Bar for WIN 8 GT70 series, but this has not been officially made available for the GT780/783.

    :)

To an extent, but it's been quite awhile since I have. I just purchased the laptop a few months ago and don't wont to risk trying to reformat it and not get windows reinstalled safely and then have a $2000 blue screen :S

That fixed it sir, Thank you much. If anyone else is having trouble with S-Bar after Windows 8 Update go to that link he posted and follow the steps described in a post. Quick and easy fix, except for the hassle of finding that post lol. I greatly appreciate the help fellas!

you did make your reinstall dvds haven't you ? on day one?

well its basically the same thing, if you put those dvds in it will wipe your disk, and start from scratch with that fresh out of the box feeling.

point is, it won't hurt your laptop to start from scratch, its even highly recommended considering its windows.

Wether it be win 7 or win 8, fresh reinstall is better more stable than a live upgrade.

anyway if you get lil weird bugs, and can't seem to get rid of them, try that suggestion, but make a backup of your important docs & files 1st.

Windows 7 also had trouble with the S-Bar disappearing after CCleaner and a few other programs were run. They removed it from the Start Menu.

I manually removed it from my Start Menu but I pinned it to the taskbar to run only when I needed it.

I only needed it to open the ODD tray.

Now that I have a 3rd drive inside a caddy in the optical bay I don't install the S-Bar.

In Windows 8 you can also pin it to the taskbar to make active when you need it and remove it from Startup in the Windows 8 task manager.

Windows 8 contains basic drivers to run all the hardware in my GT780DX except for the Reaktek 5139 card reader. You'll have to download it from MSI.

I updated most drivers to the newest available.
    Graphics-31033 Beta( Drivers | GeForce)
    Chipset-9.3.1.1007( intel drivers pour chipsets)
Audio-2.70 build 6754( Realtek drivers Audio)
Wireless(Killer)-6.1.0.437( Killer Gaming :: Support :: Driver Downloads)
    Lan-RTL-81xx-8400.0907.2012( Realtek drivers Network)
    USB 3.0-Renesas 2.1.39.0( RENESAS/NEC Drivers & Firmwares)
Card Reader 6.2.8400.39034( MSI Global – Download Center)
    Touchpad-Syaptics 16.2.10.12_a100( MSI Global – Download Center)
MEI-8.1.0.1263( MSI Global – Download Center)

Your notebook may have a Sentelics Touchpad and Intel Wireless
    Sentelics-Built into OS
Intel Wireless-15.5.6.48( intel drivers pour chipsets Reseaux (Lan) & Wifi (Wireless))

All utilities are from MSI( http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT780DX-GT780DXR-.html#/?div=Utility&os=Win7 64) and here for newest ones ( http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT70-0NG-Dragon-Edition.html#/?div=Utility&os=Win8 64)

I'm using Waterfox as my browser(64bit).

My bios is set to Raid but my 3 SSDs are non member disks.

It seems the original 180W PSU (AC adapter?) not enough anymore since I changed every components in the laptop +OC. After 1 hour BF3 the PSU overheating and stop working, the GT780 keep working until the battery is discharged.
Does anybody knows wich 220W PSU compatible with my GT780DX or how can I make an Alienware/Dell 220W PSU compatible.

However, when i populate the upperd slots (under the keyboard) and start my laptop, once i turn on my laptop, nothing happes (as in power button is online, but even the screen dosent turn on). Any idea about this problem?

    Thx in advance.

GT780 problem with under keyboard memory socket

Great, seems i5 only supports 2 slots of ram, so i got 2 4 gb ram modules that i can throw away... Oh well, i guess you learn from mistakes. Still this sucks as i wanted to get to buy this once only, not get again the 16 GB modules, or upgrade to a i7, but i guess this is what happens when you trust the internet, sometimes you get it right, sometimes you get it wrong.
