    Hey all,
I bought my GT780 about a year ago and it has been an amazing machine. Unfortunately, a couple of months ago it stopped registering(at least the light on the front stopped registering it) when I have it plugged in to the power block. It charges fine and I haven't seen any real problems with it so I just marked it up as a quirk of my machine. I recently noticed that the graphics card seems to be slowing down to a crawl at random times. Not when I am gaming or doing anything resource intensive but if I surf the net for a bit it looks like the card slows down to these numbers(not sure what they all mean though)
    Gpu Clock: 74mhz
    Memory Clock: 324mhz
    Shader Clock: 147mhz

I have the 570m graphics card and the 2670qm i7 processor. Just was wondering if anyone had any ideas what was going on. I thought maybe it was registering as unplugged because I know that the graphics card slow down dramatically when unplugged.

If I push the P1 to turn on the Turbo mode I get these numbers
    Gpu Clock: 576mhz
    Memory Clock: 1495mhz
    Shader Clock: 1152mhz

The normal numbers without the turbo are

    Gpu Clock: 525mhz
    Memory Clock: 1495mhz
    Shader Clock: 1050mhz

These stay at these numbers for a couple of minutes after I turn off the turbo mode but eventually go back down. If I am gaming(WoW) I have never had it slow down unless I tab out to the browser(firefox) then it will cycle down.

No idea what is going on. Any links or help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you ever done a complete clean installation of Windows 7 will all the newest drivers and utilities since you received the notebook a year ago?

Has the bottom been opened and the fan/vents cleaned?

Has the CPU and GPU been repasted with a quality thermal compound?

SSD or HDD?How much free space is on the drive?

Over time software buildup, file remnants and registry entries can slow a unit down.

No to the clean install. I try to keep up all of the software updates but I cannot say that they are 100percent up-to-date for everything.
I have not opened up the bottom to clean the fan/vents but I have a temperature monitor going and it does not get too hot. I have used some compressed air to blow out all the vents.
When I got the laptop from GenTech I opted for the best thermal compound they have. I can't recall the name of it right now though.
    HDD, 500gigs. about 70percent full.
Any recommendations as to programs to fix the registry code? I have screwed up computers in the past trying to fix the registry and have been hesitant to try it on this machine.

Using registry optimizing programs can sometimes remove needed entries and unless you have a registry backup that was created before the optimization there's a good chance it can't be easily fixed.

IMO the best solution is a clean installation.

Download all the newest needed drivers, software and utilities and put them on a USB stick before starting the clean installation.

I suggest that you backup any important files including your game saves that you don't want to lose onto a CD/DVD,USB stick or storage drive and do a clean Windows 7 installation.

    See this post:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi...t780-gt783-owners-lounge-498.html#post8177509

When you use compressed air from outside the notebook you're only blowing the dust and dirt back into the notebook.

EDIT:To clean properly the bottom needs to be opened, the fan removed and then the compressed air on the vents blowing the dust out instead of in.

then take a small brush and clean the fan blades.

Hi all, I just installed Far Cry 3 but I'm surprised, how crapy this game goes on my GT780R with GTX560M. When I set everything on low and even resolution to 10124x768 in windowed mode, I get about 20-25 fps? any experience with this game on notebook like this one or what frequencies do you use on your graphics? Thanks

    Hi,

You can put only Sandy bridge CPU in your laptop. It can't handle 3rd gen CPU.

Fastest would be 2960XM, but since you cant overclock that CPU in your laptop best CPU that you not meant to OC and not going to anway would be i7-2860QM , this is actually faster than 2920XM but slower than 2960XM :) but price is always better for performance. You can also upgrad your GPU, best GPU would be AMD 7970m but you would need to shave off your heatsink or buy custom modded heatsink in sales thread from "pau1ow' :)

So the processor would just be a plug and play change and the GPU i would have to do some mods?

Yes for the CPU just take yours out, put new one in, lock it in, clean heatsink and new CPU, repaste, and fasten heatsink.
For GPU I think you can only get as far as GTX 580m or GTX 675m so you dont need to modify the heatsink but it will be 2x slower than 7970m ... and it will be hot GPU too

well, hard to say, if you need to UP GPU just for few games but you're tottaly fine with overall performance I say DON'T upgrade for just few titles. But if its gaming that you do most, then DO UPGRADE. 7970m performance is kinda 3 x 560m, you can see and compare details in my signature

    Hello MSI Community,

I recently bought on Craiglist an MSI GX780 laptop. So far I am loving every bit of it. The laptop was full of crap and I did a clean windows 7 install. So far I have been able to install all drivers except one that (I assume) is keeping me from turning on my wi-fi. When I go to the network connection page all that I get are options for wired connections.

Anyways, I need help with the following two drivers:

    Network Controller
    Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

    Network Controller.PNG

I have tried to install the drivers using the utility Slim Drivers but so far no luck. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think you need to install MSI S-Bar from the link on the first page of this thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/584869-official-msi-gt780-gt783-owners-lounge.html) Search for text "Don't like the S-Bar's big blue star on your desktop? New S-Bar Version: 21.011.11023 released! (Thanks to Ken of GenTech for this..... show him some love folks!)" Download/install - Activate Wi-Fi (the button between power and bluetooth button on your touchpanel, or from the s-bar - w-fi light is now on)

    Try this one.....

NEC USB 3.0 driver or the newer Beta_ NEC USB3.0 driver.

Which wireless card do you have, and did you turn it on (Fn + F8)? If you have the stock Intel N130 wireless card, make sure you install the latest PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers from the Intel website. The wireless card can also be turned -on using the touchbar. Is the wireless icon lit on the touchbar? Did you install the S-Bar software needed for the touchbar control? If not, install the S-Bar 2.0 software. Also, prior to installing S-Bar, you need to insure you have Microsoft.NET Framework 4 installed.

Also, please review the threads lead post, HERE!

    :)

The Intel 6205(no BT),and 6235 plus the Killer 1102/1202 are easy swaps with the stock wireless card because all use the 2 antannas that are already in the notebook.

Some new MSI gaming notebooks have the Killer 1202 w/BT 4.0 as the stock wireless card.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge but I'm learning... Just bought a gt780dx running windows 7 home premium. My 2 year old HP laptop, running Vista, was fine but the drive space was maxed out. I have been thinking of upgrading the HP to Windows 7 to work better with my MSI so another HDD is necessary anyway. So the question is, can I buy the same drive that is in the msi (750 gig WD), clone it with Ghost or Acronis and then run it as the stand alone drive in the HP?
The HP is equipped to run Windows 7 (did the Windows 7 equipment requirement check and its all good), I just dont know if there will be a problem running a windows 7 (msi) clone - in a different laptop computer (HP) - because of drivers and/or the windows 7 being registered from use on the msi? Any suggestions are appreciated...

This is not a good idea.

Even when a drive that was setup on the same computer is cloned to another drive in that very same computer error often occur when running the OS on the cloned drive.

The chipset and other hardware in the HP may be so very different that the chance of a successful cloning from a G780DX is very slim.

It's always best to do a clean Windows 7 installation on the boot drive while it's the only drive present in the computer it will be used in.

You will need a new W7 key to activate the W7 OS on the HP legally but you can install it and use it for 30 days without a key and rearm Windows 3 more times for a total of 120 days without a key.

Based on that, if I buy a new HDD and a new full version of windows 7 for the HP, whats the process to put the win 7 onto the drive? Are new drives, say a 750 gig WD, set up to boot a laptop from the disk drive such that then I can load windows 7 onto it and proceed from there? And presumably, if thats right, do I THEN install the HP drivers (or will the OS direct me)? I'm not clear on how to best start and proceed with a new HDD and then a new full version of Windows 7 and want to get it all up and running on the HP laptop.... Thanks again..

The clean installation process is basicly the same on all hardware that supports Windows 7.

I recommend Windows 7 x64 Home Premium if your HP supports it.If your Vista is x64 then W7 x64 is OK.

Make sure your bios is set to AHCI.

Remove all the drives from the notebook except the one that Windows 7 will be installed on.Have your HP WiFi driver downloaded beforehand.

I like installing Windows from a USB stick rather than a optical drive since it's faster and easier for me.

Boot your notebook selecting the Windows 7 DVD or USB stick.

    Select keboard layout.

    Agree to the licence

    Select Custom clean installation.

During the 1st reboot of the installation remove any USB sticks.

The computer may reboot 2 more times before the Windows 8 installation is completed.

I recommend not putting in your serial key number until you are near the 30 day mark after installation and everything is running well.

After the installation completes you will need to install the Intel Chipset Installation software.

Then install your graphics card driver, sound card driver and wireless driver.

It's also a good idea to install netFramework 4

    Now run Windows update.

Install any other drivers and software needed for your hardware plus HP utilities you may need.

Here's a guide I posted for doing the clean Windows installation on the MSI GT780DX that may be a bit helpful to understand the clean installation process.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi...t780-gt783-owners-lounge-498.html#post8177509

A lot will not apply to the HP since the hardware will be somewhat different.

No,but the 2.70 series of drivers continues to evolve with new beta versions to fix bugs and add support for new hardware.

The Realtek HD Audio Manager is still a bit disappointing in that it lacks a 2.1 setting for my MSI with 2 front speakers and a subwoofer.

I'm using the 2.70 build 6780 that came out a few days ago with no issues so far.

I just installed the new Official WHQL Intel RST 11.7.0.1013 so I'll be benching my SSDs using it again.

My GT780DX now has 3 SSDs in it with the bios set to Raid but all SSDs are non member disks.

I have just changed the hard drives in my laptop and the recovery all went fine. I am now faced with a dive that is so full of bundled applications and would like to try and do a complete, fresh, clean install, WITHOUT all the other rubbish that comes with the recovery disks. Is this an impossible dream?

I did try and do a clean install using the Windows install disk (i have a spare registered version), but that was not successful. It stopped the install at a certain point and just hung there.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

your best bet if you really want to do that, is look in the 1st post of this current thread for clean installation instructions. you'll need to download a win 7 iso and your windows key which is under the laptop.

then you can proceed to install it without all the junk.

Smitty,I think you need to install a webcam software program something like Cyberlink YouCam or ArcSoft WebCam Companion.MSI or other notebook makers usually don't supply a free to use webcam program although my LG notebook had a free older version of YouCam.

thanks WTP, i'm actually looking to adjust the ambient light settings like exposition and auto brightness adjustment, it's way too dark on its default.

Another site you can use for altenatives to softwares is AlternativeTo - Social Software Recommendations

on which i found a cool lil program WebcamMax Alternatives and Similar Software - AlternativeTo.net, it does more than just take videos, it also allows to share the screen and movies if u want to watch with a friend.

idk if it will allow me to play with settings but a friend of mine uses it so i'll give it a shot.

For those who use Skype and you want it to send out HD feeds, you could use a software like this to force Skype to use HD.

nodewave Force Skype HD Webcam Video

Take note you need to have a fast upload speed and an equivalent fast download speed on your recipient for it not to stutter.

    Yeap,the star is back.

I was only using the S-Bar to eject the tray of the DVD drive but since I took it out and put in a caddy with my old Vertex 2 I have no real need for it.

When I was using it I clicked on the Start Button>S-Bar>and pinned it to the Taskbar. Then I ran msconfig>Startup and unchecked the S-Bar box. This way the Star wasn't on my desktop unless I activated it from the Taskbar icon.

SCM is out now for Windows 8.

S-bar is not need anymore, as SCM replaces its functions.
    (No more annoying blue star!)

You need to keep KTM though.

I rarely use the touchpad on my GT780DX but I usually take new driver releases for a spin.

I just installed Synaptics v16.3.1.2 with no issues so far on Windows 7 x64.I'll try it on my Windows 8 Pro drive when I get around to it since I don't use W8 much any more.I keep going back to W7.

Unpack the 7z file to a new folder and view the readme before installing.

On Windows 7 x64 after Cinema Pro II is installed and a reboot is performed a window comes up stating that the SCM Service is not installed and asks if you want to install it.After I clicked OK and it installed I can't find an icon anywhere?

On this new clean install of Windows 7 x64 HP I just installed the Super Charger program to charge my new Galaxy Note 2 on the GT780DX.After enabling it in the bios I connected the phone to the USB 3.0 port next to the card reader and it worked like a charm charging the phone.

have you tried with no other program running? lowest quality settings? lower resolution?

i would start by going in msconfig and disable all non m$ services and disable all startup programs too, reboot and try the game at your prefered settings, then lower until you reach something acceptable. the aim here is to check if its a program interfering or just the game. if its the game, hope they come up with some update to fix that.

Also make sure you update your video drivers regularly as they may have new profiles for this new game in the coming months. do a clean install in custom of the nvidia driver installer.

let us know if you get bettter speeds.

btw, is there a demo, others in this thread could try the demo and tell you if it happens to them also.

ok so i guess that means maybe its coming in the near future that it will be optimized for our cards. we have the DirectX 11, Shader 5.0 in our cards, and that should be fine for this game.

meanwhile i suggest walking? (j/k lol)

    Single Player Campaign?
    Online?Wired?Wireless?
    Overclocked?
    Driver Version being Used?
    Other running Processes while gaming?
    System Running Well?
Last Time a clean Windows 7 x64 installation done?

On screens with high rendering expect fps to drop.
