@WTP-
I am really slipping. I do have RAID 0 not 1. Apologies, originally I ran Crystal Disk and it said my SSD's were bad.
I purchased them 6 months ago, and I store all my media externally on platters. I ran Perfect Disk 12 after seeing the "bad" rating on crystal disk.
After using SSD optimize mode, I ran crystal disk and it said my drives were "good". Is this common for Crystal Disk to do this before and after an SSD optimization?
Where do I get an Intel Raid Utility OROM from? I googled to no avail, I did find the RST drivers however! Do you mean to say GT7xxx's don't have the correct revision at this juncture?
Thank you Forum! ^_^

Good news:
New version of SCM available now (for win7 upgrades to win8).
Previous version of SCM still available (for full win8 installs I suppose).
Be sure to uninstall s-bar first, and you'll also need to install the 'P1 Overclock' app (found under win7 items) to get that to work. -
is the SCM also for win 7 - 64bits ?
-
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
What am I missing here.
Some screenshots showing what it does on my GT780DX please. -
-
All SCM does is enable the touch-sensitive buttons in front of the keyboard, and it gives you a small grey icon on the screen to confirm (as well as lighting the buttons). That is all.
I much prefer it over that messy blue-star-millions-of-useless-features approach that s-bar has.
Note that I have a GT780, so don't know what it does on other models with other features.
Also, I have no idea how it interacts with Metro, since I only use the classic desktop in conjunction with Start8 (i.e. I never see/use the Metro desktop). -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
Welcome to Classic Shell -
@WTP- I had a terrible day. One of my SSD's in my RAID0 config failed when I woke it from sleep.
They are the grey Kingston Hyper X 240 GB model. I save all my media externally and when I checked the website,
it states that some of their SSD's are not recommended in RAID's. Kingston should include this in the packaging for their SSD's (Intel made).
So, my question(s) are - Do you run 3 SSD's in a non-member setup to avoid drive failures? Or do you have 3 different OS'es on your system?
Finally, what is the cheapest price your recommended SSD? Thanks Again. -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
Raid arrays configured with consumer hard drives or SSDs are just not a good way to go in these notebooks.
A single large size SSD is fast enough but there's no perfect SSD made yet. They all have pros and cons.
I have a 30 month old Vertex 2(34nm) that was great in my desktop and 2 LG notebooks but when I wanted to use it in my GT780DX I couldn't get the system to see the V2 when the bios was set to AHCI.On a reboot it appeared but on a cold boot there was no V2 when I pressed the F11 key. With the bios set to Raid the V2 is always there on cold bootup so that's one of the reasons I have the bios set to raid and 3 non member disks.
The V2 is in a caddy in the optical drive bay,Windows 7 x64 is on a 240GB SanDisk Extreme in the primary drive bay,Windows 8 Pro is on a Vertex3 MI in the secondary bay and a forign language version of Windows 7 x64 is on the Vertex 3.
I have the original 750GB hard drive that was the stock drive in an external USB 3 exclosure.
I also have a Linux distro(parted magic) on a USB flash drive.
The notebook has been a solid performer for 14 months. -
Hello Everyone,
In February 2012, I bought an MSI GT-783 Notebook; GTX 580m, Patriot Wildfire SSD, 90% gamut screen and other features.
In December 2012, a problem occured out of the blue, where if i was running ANY graphic intenstive program (i.e. BF3/3Dmark etc), the
computer would after (10 minutes or so) power off as if someone pulled the cord from the back.
I originally bought it from powernotebooks.com but they told me to contact MSI. Sent it in to MSI, they sent it back TODAY and replaced
the motherboard with GT70 board and video card with GTX 675m (similar to GTX 580m i guess).
The Problem is they replaced the front panel interface with one that comes with the GT70 model.
There is a button on the GT 783 model (shown in pic below), that once pressed would load CINEMA PRO 2 which was mapped to the key shown in pic.
Now I have NO P1 key or anything to map it to...
Can someone please tell me how I can get Cinema Pro 2 to work?
Thank you fellas for your help in advance.

i'm seeing slow boots on the laptop, like 20 seconds and msconfig has no programs started. might be a service hanging it.
the lag starts at the windows logo, my mother's hp boots in 10 seconds flat and isn't as new as this one. it gets to the windows login before the windows logo from the boot is fully completed. that's fast!
But for this GT780, the logo seems to hang around a while after its fully formed. the only difference i can see is the gpu. her's has none. and its an older board, not even usb3. both win 7 64.
how do i find out what is causing this on this super fast gaming machine ?
i know there's the system logs but that's long hand, i'm looking for some easy way to tell. easy to understand and see where and what is causing this lag when booting. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
As for cinema pro 2 have you tried looking for the exe file and just run it from there? -
P1 should be turbo! The film strip looking icon should be Cinema Pro II.
Go to msimobile.com and xearch the discontinued models for your system.
Download the drivers and your set.
You are so lucky to have gotten a GT - 70 board and upgraded card!
I hope this info helps. -
@Smitty - Are your HDD's okay? Have you double checked that your RAID0 is working correctly (this is very noticeable)!
If you still have slow boot up, may I suggest a clean install, or an upgrade to an SSD?
Make sure to grab all your data if you reinstall (friendly reminder)!
As far as a utility. grab both crystal disk programs at the top of the thread!
Good Luck! ^_^ -
@ Smitty - Sorry for not looking at your system setup earlier.
Hmm you do have an SSD - I assume your OS and main progs are on that?
Are the SSD and HDD RAIDed together? Still, try Crystaldisk Mark and see if your drives are behaving at their respective transfer speeds.
Make a backup asap as you might have more issues soon.
Anyone else please jump in on this! -
HELLO I AM FRENCH, my msi gt 783 still restarts after 5 minutes of play! I just got it because it was in after sales service for this problem, it is just update bios and reinstall the operating system .... I am disgust, someone already had this problem? thank you

You should tell us your configuration and need to start monitoring temperatures as they are number 1 on the restart list.

Hello, I have been ripping my hair out for the last 2 days trying to figure out how to do a fresh install, what happened is my motherboard failed (popped with alot of smoke). My little brother wanted to surprise me thinking he could fix my laptop ripping thhe warranty sticker off in the process....it gets better.....i had a guy put "the same" motherboard back into my laptop and gave it back to me without KLM working Overclock not functioning. Awful sound quality ect. i have tried to install windows 7 with all of the drivers given to me on the cd i received with the notebook but when i try to open KLM it opens my webcam (hot-button next to the power button) This guy is playing with words and will not fix my laptop, Saying He did install a new motherboard and thats all that matters. maybe the bios was on the motherboard and he didntt flash it? as i cannot get any of the firmware to function. if any of you guys could give me an idea as to what is going on i would greatly appreciate it wholeheartedly

not bad, but not great.
as you can see i have intel RST v12 and the firmware is 1.5 the latest.
not real happy with the vertex 4 tbh but c'est la vie for now.

next i'll do As-SSD i just have to find a few mins and maybe even use partedmagic to wipe the drive and restore full speed. idk if it's going to help much, but we'll see. -

You can try running as administrator the command
sfc /scannow
to see if there's any file system errors.
A secure erase is not necessary on SSDs.I've tested cleaning SSDs with Secure Erase, diskpart and frormat/delete partitions during a clean Windows installation and have found no difference in performance.
During the Windows installation right after you choose Custom Clean Installation there's a Disk Options Utility.Use the utility to first format all showing partitions and then delete all showing partitions until one partition remains where size and free space match. -
i never use the registtry cleaner they f* up more than they help
This windows is fresh from last month, Dec 6th if memory serves.
i'll try sfc but doubtful.
As for windows installation, i'm still using the msi recovery partition, but i haven't done a baseline speed test right after installing before win updates. i gotta do that just for kicks.
Hence why i still do Partedmagic by hand.
i wonder if i can use a can-fr win7 iso from digital river with my win key under the laptop ?
here's the results from AS-SSD and Anvil Storage RC6 aswell 3 tests for averaging.Attached Files:

sfc /scannow just finished, all good.
like i said a few posts ago, its the boot time that's long, 24 seconds is far from the 10secs from a fresh install.
while 5seconds of those is being stuck at the welcome screen waiting for desktop to open.
i wonder what is causing that.
edit: all usb devices were unplugged and still get that lag at welcome screen. -

Secure Erases may raise your retired block count. Before and after doing a secure erase run CrystalDiskInfo to check what changed.
Slow bootups are generally caused by software loading and won't show up in benchmarking.
Antivirus program are a major cause of slower bootup.
I'm trying new things for the new year.I was an MSE and Avast Free Edition user but now I'm giving Bitdefender Free Edition a shot.
I'm also trying icedragon browser built on Firefox.
Benchmarks will show how your drive performs in your system with varying amounts of data on it.
Burn a copy of your recovery partition if you feel you still need it using the MSI app.The drivers, utilities and software on the partition is way outdated if it's the original.
Also out today that might be of interest.

Version 4.01 - Major changes to underlying architecture
Sandboxie 4 on 64-bit Windows removes the Experimental Protection feature, and no longer has to suggest use of Drop Rights option.
Sandboxie v4 officially supports Windows XP SP 3, Windows Vista with Service Pack 2, Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, and Windows 8. Other variants may or may not work at this time.
Please note that these changes do not mean that Sandboxie now supports Metro apps.

i do have baseline benchmarks of CrystalDiskMark, from when i bough the drive last summer, they were made on a fresh install from the msi recovery but i can't recall the version of I.R.S.T, either it was the stock or the latest at the time i believe were 11.2 and 11.5 alpha.
Not too shabby, and looking back on them, it may not be worth S.E. them.
i'll remove norton just to see.Attached Files:

The local tech you went to probably didn't do a good job on the Medion branded MSI barebones 1761 model -
if i'm reading this right, according to Intel's ARK the cpu should be fine until it reaches 90c, then throttle to cool down.

does the crash happen in every game ?
or if only in 1 game is it at same place or after same amount of time?
did u look for a recent update or patch for the game ?
did you test your memory?
try this: remove all memory sticks and test all 1 by 1 with Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool on usb stick or the windows built in mem test
To run the Memory Diagnostics Tool manually:
If the Windows Memory Diagnostics tool doesn't run automatically, you can run it manually.
Open Memory Diagnostics Tool by clicking the Start button , and then typing memoire
Or clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Memory, and then click Diagnose your computer's memory problems. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Choose when to run the tool. -
i'm tempted to try disable all services except M$
ugh , i bet that'll mess something up (msi s-bar, sensing pad or worst). Will do a full backup 1st.
i remember last month reinstalling windows for that reason and more. -
I made a memtest is good, I leave 1 hour and 30 minutes, no errors
Earlier the ordinteur died then rebooted to start and reach the BIOS menu, it restarts again and then a second time, then can not restart Windows I due to the recovery system for démarer Windows
I'm not farther, I contact the MSI, I expect a response -
thanks for the reply, i was only going to send it away after i have exhausted any options i might have, money is unfortunately tight these days
-
im sorry if im being redundant but sending it away is not an option for me at this point. i had a premium gt780dx before i gave it to the repair guy, i has an msi screen on bootup, now its says medion. THX audio does not function just realtek HD audio. the backlit keyboard does not fuction. before my motherboard blew i touched the button left of the power button to backlight my keyboard, now it just opens my webcam + the p1 button just opens user defined key and not my overclocking tool. I purchased this laptop from ibuypower. im very good at following directions but the directions given to me in the installsteps.avi are in Japanese and so blurry i couldnt make out what was going on. i did a fresh install of windows 7 sp1 aand loaded my drivers in the correct order, some would not load . I have searched the internet for issues like mine but i am failing to find anyone with the same problem, everyone just used f3 recovery function and now i do not have that option. if anyone knows what steps i can take to restore my laptop i would so SO grateful. The repair guy said it was the EXACT same motherboard. Can anyone point me in the right direction? i really dont have the money right now to send it away because of coarse my warranty is now gone. .
-
hello guys, i have a big problem with my barebone 1761 (2820qm es-16gb-570m-128ssd)
i sold this laptop a few weeks ago, the buyer as soon as he turned on he got this screen.
then i met him and i tried to reinstall windows without any problem. but once i refresh the windows experience, the screen goes crazy with many artefacts. so i opened the laptop, removed the vga, cleaned, and put it back. since that moment i cannot access to windows anymore, i just got a blank screen, fan is turning, i can control even the brightness with the keyboard (the screen is black but the brightness changes) i did everything, remove battery, cmos, drives, ram...nothing changed! cleaned the vga many times...nada!
is the vga dead? or it can be something else?
thanks -
Hi All, Well what a brilliant forum to come across. I've had my GT780DXR since last year and really bought it specifically to get into DayZ (which was all over YouTube at the time).
It's been a great PC so far with the only drawbacks being not having a full OS disk and the disappointing lack of keyboard backlighting (mine is a UK machine and the vendor Scan had not made it clear that it was a territory specific feature).
On DayZ and Arma 2 I can hold up 60fps with reasonable graphic settings dropping to 18-25fps in some pretty built-up areas. However, that was prior to installing Windows 8 two days ago.
Now I've dropped a few fps overall but I get these attrocious pauses or stutters that previous posts have referred to as lag spikes.
I've popped on the latest NVidia 310.90 drivers. I had hoped that the fresh install of the latest OS would give me performance improvements and get rid of the crap that tends to accumulate during ownership.
Was I expecting too much? Is it just a case of wait and see and hope the drivers catch up?
The in-game performance is still very acceptable but these lag spikes, although quite minor are driving me mad.
For info the only other stuff running is Comodo Firewall and Teamspeak 3.
Once again, great to find such a knowledgeable forum - I've read the last thirty or so pages of this thread and it's amazing to see how much can be done in terms of mods etc, particularly the move to the AMD GPU. Very cool.
Cheers! -
i've heard of slowdowns in games on windows 8, so if FPS really matters, i would just go back to win 7 or wait for Windows Blue (rumors say this summer), just my 2cents.
yes M$ dropped the ball on win 8. -
for your disks:
1st i would change the boot order in bios, PXE is for booting in a special network way for OEMs, so unless you have such a setup to work with, and most home users don't, then set the ssd as 1st boot drive.
2nd if your signature is the laptop you're working on, and your SSD's are in raid then it ight be that the raid array is broken. whatsthepoint made tests with the raid array and decided it was best to make them non-members, so that means leaving the raid in bios but not making an actual raid array, leaving the SSD's seperate. less trouble that way too.
The Samsungs 830 are plenty fast and for that extra bit of speed you might get isn't worth all the aggravation.
Or set bios to ahci and use parted magic on usb key to do an internal wipe of them both, resetting them to factory settings. remove 1 drive and reinstall windows on just 1 of them and add the 2nd ssd after windows is done installing.
that's what i would do rather than try to fix the array. -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
This happens when a hard disk or SSD is removed or installed. The bootup order is changed to where the the notebook sees the Realtek Lan as the 1st boot device.
Also if there's a problem with the primary boot drive and there's no bootable disk in the ODD the notebook will attempt booting from the PXE-E16 Realtek GBE Lan card.
The image you posted is the bootup screen where the Realtek Lan is the boot device. -
Hello to everyone
I am planning to buy a SSD for my 780dxr and any recommendations would be appreciated -
but could go with the agility tho, it doesnt have that feature.
i'd go with samsung 840 pro, its my top pick. -
i cannot access to the bios anymore, i just get a blank screen when i turn the laptop on.
i was using only one ssd, so no raid.
i didnt open the screen, just removed and cleaned the vga. (i checked the screen cable also) -

SDD technology is still a work in progress with pros and cons to every make and model.
Best Reads = Samsung 840Pro also very low power consumption
Best Writes = OCZ Vector
Best Consistancy = Corsair Neutron GTX
The Corsair Neutron GTX 240GB is the best performing drive on the planet when tested as an empty drive but when more than half of the drive is filled with data the performance drops in half. Also higher than normal power usage.
The Samsung 840Pro has very bad consistency plus lower writes than the Vector.
The OCZ Vector suffers from lower reads than the 840Pro.
The best bang for the buck may still be the older 256GB and larger Samsung 830 that's showing great endurance.A 256GB or larger Crucial M4 also offers good bang for the buck.
The SanDisk Extreme 240GB and 480GB can be found at excellent cost per GB deals and are my present boot drives in a GT780DX and gaming desktop. They were the best deal in town when I bought them and they haven't disappointed me yet.SandForce SSDs are the write speed kings and handle compressible data well but struggle with incompressible data.
Whichever SSD you decide to buy I recommend nothing smaller than 240GB and drives with either Toggle NAND or IMFT synchronous NAND.
Asynchronous NAND is found on lower end SSDs -
WhatsThePoint Notebook Virtuoso
With the power adapter unplugged and the battery removed open the bottom of the notebook and disconnect the red and black wire connector by the fan that plugs into the motherboard for about 5 minutes.
Reconnect the red/black wire connector, put the battery back in and plug in the power adapter.
Power On button then pressing the Del key to see if you can now enter the bios.
Was your bios previously set to raid or AHCI?
If still can't get into the bios try with all hard drives and SSDs removed.
